    Classic cuban

Wanted to 'shop local' for our pick up for the road trip home. The good reviews for the cuban grabbed my attention. Yum, I thought, a real cuban, haven't had one of those in a long time. The clientele was mostly Hispanic which seems to bode well if you want authentic tasting food. Got the classic cuban, 2 empanada beef & chicken, and 2 Croqueta de Jamón Casera / Homemade Ham Croquette For these americanos, the cuban was dry, and not very hot, even though we were there 10 min before our pick up time, so in theory there was no sitting on the side waiting for us to pick up. It's possible that it was sitting getting cold, but there was no system or indicators...pick up here...people waiting for orders they put in at the counter, getting their number called. I was anticipating the tang of pickles & mustard, I even looked to see if it had pickles on it. Definitely got the swiss flavor. Croquettes were hot & tasty. Chicken empanada was drier than the beef, both had a lot of bread in around the edges that contributed to the dryness. Maybe the Argentina empanadas are different. There were definitely wide choice of items, even a buffet & whole fried fish sandwich. All ladies working. Seemed efficient other than the confusion over how to get a pick up order. Friendly. They also have robust demand for their expresso and latin drinks. Nice patio on the side. Temporary warning... A lot of construction made it even harder to navigate getting in & out. If you are going west and want to turn in left, the turn at the light, before the cracker barrel, at 16th st. And come in the back way.

Love that they now offer ordering via the app--it was easy and quick to use. I had friends visiting from North Carolina, and I was able to place a larger order ahead of time for easy pickup at my convenience. The place is small and very busy, so ordering in advance made the experience much smoother. Still love the croquetas and now they also have chicharrón

Best Cuban food by far!!! worth the stop. Service was warm and welcoming. The ambience is a stop and go. I didn't see sit down area but maybe it was around the corner. We stopped for coffee and took food to go!!! Decisions were hard to make I wanted to try it allllll

The food was good there were sandwich options as well as soups. There were plenty of pastries, too, sweet & savory.

Cuban treats, pastries, empanadas, sorollitos, quesitos, churros, relleno de papas, guava pastries and more.

Tom's Cuban To Go in Ocala nails the essentials of Cuban cuisine with heart and flavor. Their menu offers all the go-to classics--Cuban sandwiches, pastries, empanadas, sorollitos, and solid breakfast and lunch options. My meal: The cortadito was strong and smooth, while the ham & cheese croissant was sweet, buttery, and pressed just right. It's not rocket science, but they absolutely succeeded in delivering great food. I also tried a Tequeño, a Venezuelan specialty that was freshly made, gooey, and filled with cheesy goodness--a fun bonus to the meal. The atmosphere is clean, open, and designed for quick to-go ordering. Very sanitary and efficient, adding to the overall ease of the experience. Service is quick, unless they're freshly preparing popular items that run out--a sign of their well-loved dishes. Conveniently situated next to the Exxon station (though unaffiliated), this spot is a reliable choice for satisfying Cuban food.

We stopped here for breakfast on a roadtrip to GA. Nice small place in the same building as the gas station. Don't let outside appearance fool you, they have excellent traditional Cuban food and delicious Cuban coffee. We took our food to go but they do have a small outdoor seating area. The staff at the register were very friendly and helpful in making menu choices. The Cuban bread for the breakfast sandwich was phenomenal. Too bad we don't live anywhere near here but I would recommend for locals or if you are just passing through.

Ordered a head had minimal wait in the standing room at this in an out restaurant with outside seating. (I ordered ahead) The food is hot, quality is great. Authentic Cuban food. Area you order inside is not big. Clean but Close quarters so don't send the entire family inside Go for the food not the ordering lobby. If you have time to sit and eat they have an open covered area on the side of building. If not, order, pick up and take off.

A solid four stars! We were in Ocala to visit my sister in law. I was pleasantly surprised to hear she only lived a couple miles from here Cuban food was high on my list of places to try. Of course I wanted a true Cuban sandwich. My wife and sis in-law went a different route. They ordered a croqueta sandwich. The Cuban sandwich was good, but I had better in California.; not to mention I make an awesome Cuban sandwich myself. Now the Croqueta sandwich was another story. It was basically the same as a Cuban sandwich, but with added croquetas. The added flavor profile made a difference. Both my wife and sis loved it. Next time and yes there will be a next time as I mentioned before my sis in law only lives a couple of miles from here. I will try their Cafe con leche along with something else like their Cuban breakfast sandwich or housemade empanadas!

It's a small little store front and if you want to sit down and eat your food they have a small outside patio to the side of the building. My husband ordered the Croquet Sandwich and I ordered the Ropa Vieja lunch special. After ordering it took a minute for us to get our food. We ordered our food to go and when they handed us our bag it was heavy. The Croquette Sandwich was packed with meat and had a very good flavor. One half of the sandwich is enough to fill you for the rest of the day. My Ropa Vieja was well seasoned and the maduros were just ripe. For the price you get a ton of food and it's worth every penny. This place has sit down restaurant quality food for a fraction of the price. My only negative is that they gave me a ton of rice with my Ropa Vieja, I could've had half the amount of rice and still been full.

Very authentic Cuban food, freshly made and delicious with every bite. We were waited on in a timely manner even tho it was crowded. Just a simple to go establishment but clean.

Good food on the go. Staff friendly. Restaurant extremely clean, bright and welcoming. Would return when in the area. The empanadas were my favorite.

Since I had seafood already, I went with Cuban. The friendly guy at the counter took my order, which was a Cuban sandwich (10 dollars) and mango smoothie (5.50). My sandwich included a side, and I chose the potato salad. I was told there would be a small wait, but was handed the potato salad from the fridge. The potato salad was typical, but delicious with a nice amount of potatoes. The smoothie came before the Cuban sandwich. It almost tasted like mango lassi, but a bit more icy. It tasted natural and flavorful though. The sandwich came 5 minutes later, and it was quite hot in temperature. However, the flavors were missing. The bread was a bit bland, but it was soft. The pork looked to be pressed, but it tasted good. The ham tasted like regular supermarket quality. There weren't many pickles in my sandwich, but I was able to taste the mustard and melted cheese inside. I honestly ate the insides and left quite a bit of bread. There was no atmosphere other than the typical mall food court. There wasn't much of a crowd and the mall looks like it is dying. Even though I didn't care for the Cuban sandwich, the mango smoothie and potato salad was good. Thus, I will round up to 4 stars. Else, it would have been a 3.75 if decimals were allowed in ratings. I would visit and order again, but only the smoothie and it was natural and had various flavors at a reasonable price.

How dare they even call this Cuban food? From what kind of Cuban who sends a Cafe Con Leche with no sugar in it? In my entire life of eating Cuban food mostly in Miami and Key West I never had Cafe Con Leche without sugar! It was burnt tasting and awful - undrinkable. The Carne Guisada (Beef Stew) had no olives, capers or raisins in it - only potatoes, carrots and beef and had barely cooked so the meat was like an old shoe. It was unappetizing chunks of fatty, tough, sinewy meat, unpleasant and salty. Impossible to chew and swallow. The side dishes were an insult to Cubans everywhere - flavorless mojo with boiled yuca and red beans that were mostly watery bean juice and a few red beans. The pork tamale had no flavor and the meat was fatty pork that the cat had difficulty chewing with her fangs. Obviously all the good reviews on Google are fake or people in this ridiculous town have no clue what comprises real Cuban food. It was some of the worst food I've had in this burg and that's going some.

When we walked in, the place was quite busy with diners with most looking like they were enjoying their Cuban breakfast sandwich. My wife and I opted to order the Breakfast Combo #1, which came with eggs, choice of protein, hash browns, Cuban toast and a small cafe con leche. My wife went with sausage and I opted for bacon...this was after the lady behind the counter dissuaded me from ordering combo #2 (guess she's not a fan of the tomato sauce). We also ordered a couple of guava and cheese turnovers for a snack later. Breakfast was OK. Wished the eggs were fluffier but they were fine. The buttery Cuban toast was good and so were the cafe con leche...wished the coffee size was bigger. The biggest disappointment was the bacon, if you can call it that. When I first saw the bacon, I thought it looked odd...and my suspicions were confirmed when I bit into and tasted it. The texture was off and it had no flavor. Perhaps it was turkey bacon or vegetarian bacon, either way I wasn't informed that the bacon would be some weird facsimile of bacon. Surprised the lady behind the counter didn't try to convince me to change my choice of meat. We'll probably go back for breakfast but will definitely avoid ordering that strange bacon. Breakfast for 2 with the turnovers and tip cost just under $30.

The entry was clean, well decorated, and well staffed. It was too small to handle all the leaving, arriving, and pickup traffic but there was seating inside and out. At any rate, our wait was short. We were shown to a comfortable table, promptly greeted, and provided with a basket of hearty corn chips and a great salsa- just a little spicy but also mild enough for my husband's tender palate. Angel was our server and she was great: attentive, pleasant, and informative. We ordered two appetizers:,mofongo and chichirrones. Both were great. The avocado sauce accompanying the mofongo was very flavorful, bright and tangy. The pork was well seasoned and had crispy and tender bits without and excess fat. It was just right. My daughter ordered the reine (white flaky fish with yellow rice and black beans), my husband had beef quesadillas with rice, and I had the chicken and shrimp Monterey. The fish was new to us all and was very good- like hake or cod. I don't know how mine tasted- I ate too much of the appetizers to have any room. But two of the 7 (!) to go boxes were just mine and we will ALL dine well tonight, too. An added bonus, while there, I learned that they made Sancocho (a delicious soup/stew/heaven in a bowl) on Saturdays. SOOOOO, we placed a pick up order for two large containers and the desserts we couldn't justify last night- carrot cake and flan. There's no doubt we'll go back. Paella and fajitas are at the top of my list but I suspect that the entire menu will be worth a try. So far, EVERYTHING on the menu sounds delicious and the quandary I found myself in was that I was…read moreso pulled in a million directions on what I wanted to order...I just couldn't decide! We started with Carolina Tater Skins. Absolutely DELICIOUS! Potato skins with Roast Pork, cheese, bacon, green onions, topped with bbq sauce...cup of sour cream in the middle. Didn't last over 3 minutes for the two of us and there were 6 of them! They were THAT delicious. I ordered the Birria Tacos (3) with a side salad and my husband got the Cuban Clucker sandwich with a side of crinkle fries. We spoke to our waitress about how we had wanted to try their food for awhile now but just so happened to find ourselves about 1.3 miles from this location tonight and made the decision to try them tonight! She said they were best known for their wings and just how to get them. So we also ordered 10 wings done just that way. Our meals were brought not too long after we demolished our fabulous appetizer. Wow! Absolutely crazy good! I pounded the three Birria Tacos in record time, in between also demolishing my side salad. My husband said his fries were perfect and he's STILL working on that huge sandwich as I write this! Lol The chicken wings, while they looked delicious, once I tried one, there was a strange fishy taste that came across so strong on the wings that didn't have the sweet and spicy sauce on them, that I couldn't eat them. It actually made me gag. I just couldn't eat them. The waitress asked us how we liked them, so I explained what was wrong with them. She offered to have them remade but we declined. She told the manager to come speak to us about them. He was nice enough, but looked intimidated by us (a 61 and 62 yr old?) and kinda looked anywhere but at me when I was explaining what the problem was with the wings. He was said he'd investigate. Our waitress came back and asked if he spoke with us. I said he did. She asked what he said and I said he told us he'd investigate the problem. She asked us if he said he's take the wings off our bill and I said no. She said she'd take them off anyways because it was a whole 10 wings we didn't eat. I said, thanks but I'm not trying to get free food especially if she gets in trouble for doing that. She said but you didn't even eat them! I said she couldn't have paid ME to eat them! The taste was so gross I actually used a napkin to wipe the taste off my tongue! She laughed. We went ahead and ordered dessert to make up for the wings we sent back and then didn't want after all. The bourbon peach bread pudding turned out to be sold out, so we settled on beignet bites for him and Pecan Pie for myself. Both were EXCELLENT! WE will definitely be back to see our fantastic waitress Anna and to try more of their menu because they have some of the most delicious sounding entrees! All in all, we were impressed by the fantastic food (minus the fishy wings), but everything was fresh, delicious and very decently priced! Great place to bring the family because there's something for everyone here. Chicken tenders to burgers and all kinds of sandwiches, soups, salads, pasta...diversity without being outrageous. Great combos! Can't wait to try something else next visit! You know it was a great meal when your husband turns to you as you're walking to the car together and he says "thank you babe. That was really good!". 'Nuff said?

Upon walking in, we were seated right away and presented the menu. They have daily specials but they didn't have pernil, although they had lechon asado like most of the Cuban/Latin American restaurants we've tried in the area. I ordered the lechon asado which came with yellow rice, fried plantains and red beans. My wife tried their Midnite Cuban sandwich. The lechon asado was flavorful (but of course no crunchy skin) and the yellow rice was good as well. My wife's sandwich, however, was a disappointment! The roast pork had an off taste and was gristly...she had to remove that meat from her sandwich.
