Was visiting family and we met halfway at this restaurant for lunch. We were a party of 7 and do it took a while to get a table setup. A little chaotic when we first checked in. At the cash register was a big sign that states: "Cash only". There is an ATM machine right by the cashier. Hence, the 4 stars. We ordered our food : beef empanadas, masitas, fish sandwich, Cuban sandwich, steak sandwich and ropa viejo. For drinks, we had iced teas and sodas. They came in huge, heavy glasses - like a tankard! I would say that the portions were large in general. Everyone loved their food. I enjoyed the ropa Viejo -it was very flavorful. The beef was tender and tasted very good. Our servers were friendly and efficient. They refilled our glasses constantly Will definitely come back here if we are back in the area. Just have to remember to bring cash!! read more

Our friends were excited to bring us to Lugo's when we visited. The food is delicious and brought back some good memories for hubby whose parents were from Cuba. The paella was very large and fresh. The food was tasty ; Cuban pork sandwich was OK but a bit soggy for takeout. In addition, the crispy pork chunks with a tender interior were soft but the portion was small. Our party of seven rolled in at 6:00pm within one hour of closing on a Friday, which in hindsight probably wasn't the best idea, but it turned out to be one of the best meals I had during my short stay in Dunnellon. Immediately, we were sat in the back room intended for larger parties by our waiter who was very pleasant and extremely attentive to our order. He must have realized we had been dehydrated from a long day on the river, because he gave us a large stein full of iced water after we sat down! Each one of us had a wide variety of dishes that absolutely hit the spot in terms of Cuban flavors and spices. Ordered the tostones rellenos which was sooooooooo flavorful and tasty, the ingredients went so well together. I love the Cuban sandwich- the bread was crispy and the pork was soooo juicy and I could not stop eating it even tho I was really full. Hubs ordered the Jenny's special and he said even the tomatoes on his plate were soooooo flavorful it blew his mind. The food here is made with love! We placed a to go order for our family of 5. We arrived early but were welcomed in and offered a place to sit until our order was ready. Our server made sure to present each order to us as he boxed it up so that we could be certain we were leaving with the correct order. The food was great, both adults and kids were happy with their meals and there was plenty to make two large meals from the portions provided. Thank you Lugos for a great meal! This is our new favorite restaurant. We didn't realize they were closing in a half hour when we arrived but they treated us warmly and welcomed us anyway. The service was good. We had a very good meal. The food was excellent. We shared Ropa Vieja and Masitas de puerco. The meat was tender and flavorful. Dessert was a chocolate coconut cake which was home made, even the chocolate ice cream was special, not a cheap store bought flavor. Also had Guava pastry with cheese and Cuban coffee. We will be back again. They don't serve wine so BYOB or run to the store down the street for a bottle! read more

Attempted to eat here with my wife last weekend. My wife went in first to ensure we could park behind the restaurant and was told we could. I walked in and my wife was already seated at a corner booth. As I made my way to the table, I noticed a sign by the register informing customers they only accepted cash, while at the same time also noticed an ATM next to the register. I immediately told her we had to find somewhere else to eat. Here's my issue: I understand if you don't want to charge customers a fee to use their card, but it is a slap in the face to force them to use your machine to withdraw money while you gain the fees from said machine. A group of 15 of us, with reservations, went for lunch and, other than the restaurant was very cold, heard no complaints. Many do us got the. You will find cash only places, especially in small towns. Now, the food is amazing; the more you eat, the hungrier you get. Everything was good, and yes, the employers are Cuban, as I mentioned is a small restaurant atmosphere, very casual, but they do have an English speaking waitress now.
