I went on a birthday excursion in Mount Dora and found this cute restaurant and bar. There's a nice indoor seating area and an outside more laid back bar seating space. Even though the weather was hot out and Labor Day weekend, this was one of the few open venues in the quaint little town. But it made up for the lack of open restaurants. Mount Dora has public parking lots and street parking. All the shops are within walking distance and offer a wide variety of things to do, including a boat tour. It's an artists town so if you love art, you'll find plenty of inspiration! I really enjoyed Pisces Rising because they had an amazing musician while we were there. It added to the beautiful backdrop of the lake. They have $5 happy hour for mojitos and margaritas but I opted for one of the specialty butterfly pea cocktails. My friend and I got the crab cakes and sashimi tuna appetizer since we planned on trying out other places. It was one of the best appetizers and drinks. The bartender was awesome! She made amazing drinks and service was great even though she was in charge of all the customers at the bar. In addition to helping the inside staff. I'd definitely come back to chill with friends. Great for a date and simply relaxing solo. Prices in Mt. Dora is probably a little more markup but I wasn't disappointed with the quality. read more

We sat out on the back deck at the bar with a fantastic view of the lake. The live music was wonderful--the singer was incredibly talented, and the volume was just right for conversation. Our bartender/server was delightful, and the drinks were good. The only letdown was the food; we shared the quiche that tasted straight out of a grocery store freezer aisle. My friend took me here to celebrate my birthday and we went on a Sunday but didn't know they only mostly breakfast items on menu so just ended up getting a turkey sandwich. We also shared an appetizer which was the egg rolls and we enjoyed it! My friend got the egg Benedict but said it wasn't hot enough temperature wise as if it was just sitting there for a long time. My Turkey sandwich was ok. It was nice of them to give me a creme brûlée for my bday which was one of my favorite desserts! Great day to sit outside have a cool drink, listen to music and have an appetizer. I had the calamari which is lightly breaded along with peppers and string beans that are lightly deep fried. I really enjoy the slightly breaded peppers and string beans. They are delicious. I actually would like to see those by themselves as an appetizer minus the calamari. Just a thought if you're in Mount Dora, wanna listen to some decent music, good Service and it's not too hot outside. Sitting outside is always amazing weather permitting. read more

Highly recommend that you make a reservation since it is a very popular place. We visited for lunch and found the place to be modern and festive. We sat inside but by a window so we had a good view of the lake. We waited about 40 minutes for our lunch. My partner's food was hot but mine was cold. I ordered the steak taco special - an ok dish but I wouldn't get it again as the steak was chewy and had extra fat. Our server was a pleasant young woman. She was super busy with other tables and didn't get around to re-fill drinks while we had our lunch. This is my first time here. Reservations are a must. This place fills up fast...for a reason. They open up for dinner at 5. 4:30 the line starts. We decided to sit outside since it's Florida. The weather was perfect. The dress code is casual...but I like to dress up just a bit since the prices are a bit higher than normal. You have a view of the lake which at sunset was pretty. We actually were given the best table to view the sunset. The service was more than perfect. We ordered appetizers, spring rolls and shrimp fries. For an entree I ordered Bison ribs. Lunch today was an absolute treat and I'm glad I celebrated my first Arts Festival with lunch at Pisces Rising. The line to get in before opening (standing outside on a cold Saturday afternoon, btw) was considerable. Given that, I was surprised how quickly the lovely Mark took my order - he was an absolute delight (quick, proficient, friendly). Originally, I wanted the wedge and steak plate, but - given the Festival - the menu seemed a little different. Hence, also, the plastic cups in use today. So, I went all in on the skirt steak over yellow rice and asparagus. The steak and asparagus were delicious - the rice? A bit dry, but edible. What am I saying? I cleaned that plate - happily. My sweet tea was also a little "weak" but I genuinely look forward to dining here again. Word is the shrimp and grits and Cuban Spring Rolls are a must. On a final note, it's obvious this waterfront restaurant is very popular...and, therefore, busy. I appreciated watching the Pisces team rising to the occasion. The same man who held the door open for me upon entry I later noticed helping my server deliver orders tableside. One of the ladies out in the bar area dashed inside to help when she saw the line of patrons waiting to seated. This is a team that pulls TOGETHER. 3.5 Stars. My friend had eaten lunch here and loved it, so she was excited to be able to get us reservations over the holidays for dinner. We arrived before our reservations, and decided to have a drink at the bar. We did not know there was an outside bar, so we sat the inside bar. Big mistake. The male bartender was clearly in over his head serving customers and the waitstaff. When he finally arrived to us, it didn't take him long to start work on our drinks. Poor guy must have been hungry though because he put the cherry in my drink, then popped a few in his mouth; I watched him eat garnishes the entire time we sat there. The worst part, however, was that he used his bare fingers to put the large ice cube in my glass. Insert vomit emoji here. I consoled myself that the booze around it would kill any germs. We did visit the outside bar after this, and though the female bartender had a full bar, she appeared very efficient. There was zero ambiance inside the restaurant, so next time I would request an outside table. But fortunately, our experience got much better once we were sat at our table. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. We shared an order of focaccia bread to snack on, which was excellent. I started with their soup of the day, which was chili, and though I had to send it back because it wasn't hot enough, it was really good. For my meal I went with the seafood cobb salad, which was quite tasty, and had a lot of different things included on it, which is how I love my salads. My friend's fresh catch of the day was $40 - she enjoyed it, but that seems steep to me. I think if I try this place again it will be sitting outside, at lunchtime, and staying far away from the inside bartender. read more

My opinion has improved - a little. Still good: the view is lovely. We waited about 10 minutes for a seat indoors. The patio was well populated. It being over 90°, I assume with mad dogs and Englishmen. Every employee we encountered; food runners, servers, hostess were incredibly friendly and sweet. Improved: I ordered a ginger ale. It was tall, cool, iced and I was only charged $3. The server brought an empty whiskey bottle (clean) full of chilled water. Every table had one and each was unique. Cute. My mahi sandwich was excellent. The remoulade was piquant. The fish was plentiful. The bun was fresh. The fries were hot. My wife ordered the daily quiche. It was ham and Swiss and she enjoyed it. It was a bit crusty - as it was an individual quiche as opposed to a slice from a larger unit. It came with home fries and fruit salad. It was a lot of food. I wonder: the prices are a bit steep. $18 for a mahi sandwich on a hamburger bun with fries. I assume I was paying for the included view. The quiche was a better deal, also at $18. Still not my first choice, but Sunday noon with no reservations is not a time to be choosy. We would probably return. read more

Nice restaurant! Unfortunately, it was raining hard and overcast, so I was not able to see the lakeside view that everybody talks about. I totally can see the potential for this place. The menu seem to be diverse with a couple seafood options as well as the brisket biscuit, which is what I ordered. It had just the right amount of barbecue sauce on there and what tasted like a homemade cheese sauce. The Cuban eggrolls were a really nice and savory treat. I thought the old fashion drink was just OK however, it was a little busy and it definitely packed a punch. As soon as you walk in, you feel welcomed and relaxed! We were seated at a table inside that overlooked the water and could watch the sun set. The menu had so many options that looked great! We started with 6 Blue Point oysters which were so delicious! I had a Smoked Blueberry Old Fashion with Angel's Envy and my husband had an unsweetened ice tea. Both also terrific and without my husband asking he was brought refills of his tea. I ended up getting the fresh catch of the day which was Tile fish over the most incredible rice combination I have ever had! My husband got the brisket and biscuit sandwich which he loved. Our waiter Chris was very knowledgeable about the menu items and also about gluten. I have to be gluten free so this was very comforting. Additionally, Chris, our waiter, surprised me with a complimentary Crème Brûlée dessert for my birthday! Both of us absolutely loved our meal and would definitely go back! The waterfront setting is beautiful, and the views alone make it worth a visit. It's the perfect spot to relax with friends, enjoy a drink, and watch the sunset. The food is good and consistently enjoyable, but it doesn't quite match the quality of the atmosphere. He shared his recommendations and they were on point. He even calmed our concerns with the texture of the grits and went and gathered a small serving of them. Lastly THE AMBIANCE- breath taking! Walked here after having a fun time on the Mount Dora Cat Boat Tour. This is a nice restaurant near the water and offers a variety of options from salads and sandwiches to fresh fish and other entrees. We went as 2 couples and tried a few things. I had the Seafood Cobb Salad with ranch dressing. This was a nice Cobb salad with plenty of egg and bacon, shrimp (about 5 small-medium sized) and about a 1/3rd of a cup of lump crab meat (hard to judge amount). I really enjoyed this. It was around $18 or $19 dollars and I felt like I got my money's worth on it. My husband had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with fries and loved it. He said it was just the right amount of spicy and crispy and that the fries were very fresh and crisp. Our friends had the seafood special entrees of the day. One was sea scallops and the other was grouper. Each entrée came over rice with veggies in it and a side of roasted cauliflower. For the scallops, it came with 4 large scallops and the grouper was a nice portion with a sauce on top. They both said they'd give them 4 1/2 stars and really enjoyed their meals. The only complaint they had was that for the grouper, they were hoping for more sauce. My only critical feedback was two fold. 1) Those seafood entrees were $40 each, which seemed expensive to me, but they really enjoyed them. 2) We had to wait a long time for our food. At least 30 minutes (I think it was longer) after we placed our orders. But our waiter did check on us regularly and did apologize for the wait. We were with friends enjoying a few drinks and good conversation, so the wait wasn't an issue to us that day, but I hope that isn't how it normally goes there. It's worth a visit. read more

I had the wagyu steak with yellow rice and asparagus and it was cooked perfectly! My husband and daughter ordered the hot nashville chicken sandwich with onion rings and loved every bite of it. My son got the beef brisket and biscuit and he silently ate the entire dinner because he savored every bit of it. We also has the calamari fries and crab cakes..they were small serving but still good. Their botanical sky lemonade was something else! So good! This is an excellent place for lunch or dinner. Had the calamari appetizer and it was perfectly cooked. Tender calamari morsels and fried green beans with a few fried peppers. For dinner, the wagyu flank steak was fantastic. The Louisiana Hot Chicken similarly fantastic. Side salad and homemade thousand island dressing awesome. Don't listen to anyone who complains about this place. Oh, and happy hour drinks are a plus! read more

My husband & I came here for lunch over the weekend and the food did not impress us. We sat out on the patio to take advantage of the nice day, even with the wind. I ordered the Caesar Salad and added shrimp, and my husband ordered the Mahi sandwich. It was $12 to add shrimp which was not on the menu or mentioned to me when asked if I wanted to add anything on, so that definitely seems shady as that's basically the price of the salad. My bad I guess for not asking, but if something is going to almost literally double the cost of my item, I expect that to be shared. My Huband's fries were pretty basic and flavorless. We've been here a few times out of convenience and location near the water, but this experience put a bad taste in my mouth so I'm not sure we'd return or recommend to our friends. read more

During a recent visit to Mount Dora, I had the pleasure to eat at this casual downtown eatery. Clearly it's a popular spot for the locals as the bar in the back didn't have an empty seat at it and the bartenders were greeting people as they came in the door. We were a party of six with a reservation and we were immediately seated. It was a Friday night so the place was hopping! Chris, our server, was over in a flash with menus and water and a suggestion of some of his favorite items on the menu. The drinks were well poured and came up quickly. We ordered a range of items and everyone seemed pleased with their choices. For appetizers we had two types of spring rolls-Cuban, not my fav and the short rib spring roll special of the day- delicious! What I like about the way they do things is while they have "reciped" entrees like the grouper or the fresh catch- they also let you do it any way you want it. So instead of having the side preparation which was a mixture of peppers, onions and other things- I had the Grouper simply prepared over mashed potatoes and served with asparagus. Very good, although those that got the "reciped" version also like theirs. The Shrimp and Grits looked amazing with jumbo, plump shrimp and another person in our group got the crab stuffed salmon which she enjoyed. Just when I had decided I was full, two at our table ordered the Bananas Foster which is prepared tableside for the show! This was served over scoops of vanilla ice cream and made for a wonderful sweet treat. Parking in the area is tricky- there is a city lot across the street and plenty of street parking but most is not right in front of the restaurant. They also have a nice patio facing the lake (think beautiful sunsets) but on the night we were there, it was HOT so we ate inside. All in all a great dining experience in Mount Dora. My only regret is that I don't live closer to make it a regular visit! read more

The ambience was made to look upscale inside but the vibe was a bit hectic. We went just before 5pm on a Saturday. Outside looked fun but cluttered. The food was fresh and tasty but was very standard. Nothing that really jumped out or screamed "come back!" The poke nachos were fresh and had a good amount of spicy sauce. Definitely a good choice for an appetizer. The one item that did stand out was the shrimp and grits. I always appreciate the extra sauce, plump shrimp, and spicy chorizo. We attended a rehearsal dinner in the upstairs rooms. The staff took great care of the group with dinner and drinks. The atmosphere was perfect and the food, tasty!
