This is a hidden gem in the Mount Dora area of Florida. We visited on our way to ride horses . Bartender was awesome. She was attentive and very welcoming. I was so happy to see the portion size actually reflects the cost. Every dish my table ordered was a great size. Their sausage gravy on the biscuits were very flavorful. Its hard to find a good sausage gravy. Everything we ate was well flavored. The rye bread was incredible on the reuben. The veggie omelet wasn't runny, and was loaded with fully cooked veggies. Good amount of variations as well. Its a small tight fit in their. They offer high tops, bar seating, tables, & booths. It gets very noisy. They clearly know this due to the sound buffers on the ceiling. They decor is cute and bathrooms very nice. There's not much room for a wheelchair though. The service was very quick and concise. One more star than last time. We sat outside for brunch. There was a very talented singer performing. She had a lot of fans there. But it was impossible to converse due to the volume of the music. We were seated during a break or would have requested an inside table. The menu was extensive. I selected two eggs, correctly cooked over medium. They came with 2 sausages, 2 strips of bacon, potato choice and bread choice. My wife ordered an omelet and fruit. My home fries were delicious but the potatoes were undercooked and seasoned with what looked like an eyelash. My wife's omelet contained more bacon than I've ever seen on one plate. The sausages were out of this world - I've never tasted better. But the server got my bread order wrong Servers and kitchen appear overworked. We didn't see much of our server. When it was time for the bill, I was shown a total and a tip screen, no detail. So, a mixed bag. One more star for the sausages. We'll probably wait a while before trying again. read more

This place caught my eye during a day trip to Mount Dora. We stopped in for lunch and chose to sit at their spacious outdoor patio. My husband had the special of the day, which was a bbq burger. I had the fried shrimp sandwich, both of is had a side order of crispy onion rings. Their menu had an extensive selection, and their food was delicious. Went for a Birthday celebration. Had live music. Music was good. Waiter was awesome. Unfortunately the food is not that good, I had fish and chips, the fish was crispy on the outside, but as soon as you cut it, inside was watery. The coleslaw was not to my liking, too sweet. Other guests in the party complained about steak on salad not being cooked right, bacon on sandwich was raw. It seemed for a weekend night, they would have prepared better, it seems it was too much for the kitchen staff to handle. The cocktails were never served in their appropriate glasses, and glasses were 1/2 full. This is a nice restaurant outside of the historic downtown Mount Dora Area. It offers various American dishes. My favorites were the ribeye with their whiskey steak glaze and a side of whiskey sugar carrots, their mocktails (I tried the blueberry and strawberry ones) and I also throughly enjoyed the Zeppoli's filled with chocolate and caramel. Wow. We try and head to Mt Dora every few months for lunch with family and I've passed this place and wondered what it was all about. If I knew what I know now we'd only go to this place. Ever. First off, I love the prices posted for cash payments. I'm a big fan/advocate for cash payments so it feels like this place meshes with my ways nicely. I ordered the breakfast pizza with chicken and it was DELICIOUS. It's not a standard type of pizza, but it was really, really good. It is jam packed with toppings and I took most of it home, no complaints though. It's delicious at room temp too! Mom had a breakfast plate for a very reasonable price, the pancake was really good. The potatoes though... pass. She got the hash browns and they had a really off taste to them. I didn't taste it until we were packing up to go or I would have said something because the flavor of those potatoes was almost bizarrely off, couldn't even work out what was wrong but not good. Anyway, the bacon kind of made up for it. Reba bacon is AMAZING! Maybe try it with home fries instead? My cousin got the salad that had the berries and chicken and it was also really good. The fruit was super fresh and the chicken was delicious. Everything was great (except those hash browns, but easy to adjust for the future). This is by far the most welcoming restaurant I've been to . Staff particularly the Bartender Kimberly was the most pleasant person iive encounted. The food is over the top. Big fan of this establishment. Located in Mt. Dora in a location that has not been kind to the last two occupants, the folks at WK have figured this out. A total rehab and now the building is gorgeous.....well appointed, stylish and inviting along with a huge backyard and attractive front patio. This place is fantastic! Bartender Kimberly knows how to mix a drink!! Buffalo mac n cheese is made with the best beer cheese we've eaten in a long time. BBQ brisket quesadillas were phenomenal also. Disappointing Again - Not Worth the Price We really wanted to give Whiskey Kitchen another chance after a bad first experience when it first opened, but sadly, nothing has improved. We went on a Saturday night and spent $121.77 (before tip) for food and drinks that were just not good. Portions were small, drinks were poorly made, and the prices are way too high for what you get. Ok, so normally I would probably have given a lower rating, but this place just opened up, so I'm giving them a little benefit of the doubt here. The restaurant looks great from the outside. The inside is average. Atmosphere was decent. We were seated almost immediately but were told the kitchen was shut down temporarily and we'd have to wait 20 minutes to order. We're not in a rush and it's newly opened so I get it. Not a problem. I ordered the chicken strips and my wife ordered a burger. Both came with fries. The chicken strips were overcooked and tough. Not much breading whatsoever. My wife's burger was good but she didn't care for the bun as it had a somewhat sweet taste. That's just a personal preference. Some people may like it sweet. But we were really excited about the house made fries. We almost ordered them as an appetizer but decided against it since they came with our meals. Man were we disappointed. The fries we received should have never made it out of the kitchen. They were barely warm and extremely limp. When you pick up a fry it should not just bendin two on its own. Extremely undercooked. It was very disappointing. The star of our visit and another reason I didn't rate lower was our waitress. She was fantastic. Great communicator, checked on us often and very friendly. It seemed the corned beef came from a can, the meat was shredded and had no taste at all, I couldn't find the kraut or the swiss that was supposed to be there. Another person ordered the same but the corned beef was sliced and was good. The fries were good though. The friend next to me had a 1/2 sanwich that had bread that smelled like it was rancid. Again inedible. Two other friends had gotten soup that was so spicey it was inedible. On a previous visit I ordered the fried fish that came to me raw on the inside. Service was ok, Ambiance was ok. Service was great! Meghan juggled a large table of 14 people next to us and still made us feel important. My choice was the oatmeal with no fruit - the bowl is huge and priced at $4, it was fresh and did not seem to be reheated from the previous day. I also ordered the "not that hungry" which consisted of eggs, hash browns and choice of bread. My over easy eggs were perfect and the hash browns were nicely browned. I chose the biscuit and it was not a typical southern biscuit but tasted homemade. My breakfast was 5 stars. My husband chose chicken and waffles. The chicken was chicken strips in a bland batter and the waffles dry, the presentation was poor for a dish that is famous for being sweet and savory it was very lacking. The bourbon maple syrup was excellent!! It was clean and the atmosphere was lively, liked the decor as well. We plan on trying the lunch menu soon. read more

Came for Football Sunday Brunch! Plenty of TVs in the bar area playing the games. The brunch menu had a lot of options, the chicken fried steak, omelet, and steak and eggs were all great. You can sit inside where it's is a little more upscale or outside where it's like an Italian street cafe. The prices are good. Took a long time to get waited on. Nachos are small, hardly shareable, and toppings are scarce. Deception is not appreciated. The pork chop is listed on the menu as being "topped with bacon jam". When the waitress took my order, she asked if I wanted the bacon jam on top. I said yes. When the bill came, I was charged $3.18. Very deceptive. Waitress should reveal additional cost items, especially when menu advertises the item as "topped with" without using words like "optional" or "choice of". The food was good, but there are other places to eat with good food that treat their customers better than this. if it wasn't for the food being good, I would've given only one star. read more
