My first visit to the Crazy Gator wasn't great. We went there because my friend wanted to get Gator tail. She didn't say much except being surprised it was served with honey mustard dip with one other choice. I didn't think you could screw up a grilled chicken sandwich but was wrong. The chicken was tough and I could only eat about half. I was also surprised to get the same honey mustard dipping sauce. I should have sent the sandwich back but didn't. The sauce was great but a few of the wings were pink inside. My fries were warm but soggy. My husband's chicken taco salad had like 3 pieces of chicken (cut in a square) and was cold. He asked for a side of beef since there was hardly any meat and I'm sorry but it was horrible. I feel like it was a frozen hamburger that was just sliced up. There was absolutely no flavor to it at all. He ended up using my wing sauce to give his taco salad flavor. He felt bad and told the waitress it was really good. Actually some really nice views and sunsets here with the lake just off to the West from the restaurant. Always super friendly service and the food is solid. Some dishes a bit better than others, but, overall it's a solid place that never serves anything just flat-out bad. Terrible! We have eaten here for years, and we went for pickup tonight and were so disappointed. When we go the kids like to split a large pepperoni pizza - the 16". We ordered it it as the "large 16" pizza". They gave us a small child's size pizza yet charged us the bigger pizza price. My husband immediately noticed and brought it to their attention but they said "we don't have a 16" pizza." Then why is it on your menu and why did you let us order it? After spending the day walking some nearby trails, we were quite hungry and happened along this place on the way home. It's on a lake and has a gorgeous view from the outdoor seating area. Since it was nice outside, we took advantage of this patio and set up there. Our server was very nice and was happy to answer any questions. They have a menu with a wide variety of options. I chose to try Eustis Cobb Salad and a cup of chili. My boyfriend ordered the Cajun gator tail and a side of fries. I chose ranch dressing for my salad since the server mentioned it was made in house. Everything was very delicious. The salad was huge and the ranch dressing was very good. The cup of chili was also pretty tasty and I sampled the gator tail and thought it was quite good as well. The only downfall here is that service was pretty slow. It seemed to be a staffing issue since I saw our server working very hard and it was pretty busy. She was always nice and seemed to try her best to get things out in a timely manner. The inside was pretty big and the bathrooms were clean so that was another plus. Overall, I think it's a nice place to try for good food and a great view as long as you aren't in a hurry and just want to enjoy the ambience while waiting for your order. read more

It had been a couple of years since we have eaten at the Crazy Gator, and it has gone through a bit of a reverb and regime change, so I have been meaning to go back. We went as part of a group and were in the function room. Our server was excellent, friendly and efficient, especially considering we were a group with separate checks. They have a daily buy one get one free draft beer special, a deal somewhat diminished by the fact that the mugs are so small it really is close to a normal draft glass in other places. But it is still a good price, I think. I ordered a bowl of chili and a baked potato. The chili was, well, fine, but it was more of a cup than a bowl and was not memorable. It turns out it isn't a menu item anymore, except to be added to meals, like you add for a chili dog. It is fine for that, but I wouldn't order it separately again. The baked potato came with toppings you add yourself and was nice and hot. Like I said, we were in a function room, but I noticed the regular dining area has been updated. There used to be tall bench seat backs so that you couldn't see the staff and they couldn't see you. They have fixed that and put in regular tables and chairs and it gives the area a more congenial, open look. So all in all I am fine with the idea of going back and trying other menu items. read more

We were out boating from Mount Dora and docked our boat at the dock behind The Crazy Gator in Eustis to have lunch. The restaurant isn't much to look at from the outside, but the inside has a fun, casual atmosphere. And our server, Connor, was phenomenal. He was extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful. He has such a welcoming personality and inviting smile. He was truly a fantastic server. The menu options were extensive and reasonably priced. I had a tough time deciding which entree to order because several were appealing to me. Of course, the gator po' boy was one item that caught my eye, but I went with the fish basket instead. I expected it to be fried, but Connor offered it as grilled or blackened as well. I went with blackened because I love that flavor (and it was probably a healthier option than fried). It was absolutely delicious. The piece of fish was big and perfectly cooked and seasoned. It came with French fries as well (or a side of my choosing), and the fries were tasty, too. For about $10 at lunch, it was a great value. Connor let us know that on Fridays there's an all-you-can-eat fish platter special (but that one you do have to get fried). It would definitely be a great deal, but it was already so much food, I don't know if I'd be able to eat more than one! (OK, I know I *could*, but I'd feel a bit full afterwards.) Wow, this place was great! Went for all you can eat fish fry. The food was great and service amazing. Our server was so wonderful, I wish I remembered her name (sorry)! I'm from California, so this was a special treat to go to with the family. The owner stopped by our table and talked with us for a while, such a nice man. He wanted to make sure everything was to our liking. There was a thunderstorm, so we stayed longer than we prepared for, and we were served coffee on them while we enjoyed our stay. My parents go there regularly and are known by name and treated with the royal treatment. Thank you so much! Oh, and they absolutely adore Andrew! Kids portions were large and were brought out early which we always appreciate as they tent to be slow eaters and it entertains them. The bathrooms on the premises were large and very clean. I'll start my review my saying that I've been here now about 6 times over the past 7 mths. Today, however, was THE best visit. Hubs and I decided to take the boat over and dock on Lake Eustis. Upon approach, we were greeted by a friendly guy on the dock who was offering his assistance to help us dock and tie off our pontoon. He introduced himself as Randy and was easy going and unpretentious. After our boat was secured, he revealed that he was the owner of Crazy Gator and Kalua Beach Bar. We have loved them both and frequented them before. We had a fun and friendly exchange and told him we loved the fish basket at both places and now it made sense. So to wrap up this review... If you love fried fish, come here! It's a deal for sure. For $8.99 you get a large piece of white fish which is battered in Yuengling beer batter. It's not soaked in grease and the fish is amazing! Choice of sides and good tarter sauce as well. We will return obviously. They have a dog friendly patio/deck to boot! My only criticism is sometimes the service lacks, but that's a wide spread problem across Florida. The owner is aware and works hard to correct. read more

We went for the gator bites and were not disappointed! The fried pickles are also solid but I really recommend the pretzel! It's huge!! The chicken quesadilla was also really good (and humongous). The Caesar salad had a bit too much dressing for my liking so I'd probably order that on the side but the chicken on top was delish! Generally bar food - but it's good quality and we'll def be back when we're in town. It's not much too look at from the road, and you make your way through the bar to the back dining room. It's really cute, kind of rustic with awesome views of the lake. My husband had fish and chips​ and got two big filets of fish with fries and a side of slaw. Both were really good. We also​ ordered a side of hushpuppies. There were about six fried hushpuppies in a basket. They were pretty dark and looked like they might be overcooked​​. Surprisingly they were dark but didn't taste​ burnt; the centers were soft and not dry. It could have used some ​sauce to go with it.
