So a few days ago someone posted pics and videos of a roach infestation they said were from this location on a popular social media site. People say all sorts of things on the internet,all too many times either false or blown out of proportion.i took a critical but wary eye at the posts. Then the resturant owner's wife posted,identified herself,and stated the issue had been corrected. Well,now it's confirmed by the owner's wife to be true! The next day though,there was a big orange notice on the door of the shut down by the Health Department notice. This morning,posted on that social media site on restaurant letterhead is an apology from the owner and acknowledgement of the issue. It's unfortunate for sure,I just can't see my way back to ever returning there. read more

Been in here fifty times at least. Lots of regulars are like me. We like the sit down diner service, the menu with lots of choices, and decent prices. Most of the food is ok, not great. I'm unsure about the quality of the ingredients, you wonder if the shop is using the lowest grade available. Most of the servings are ample and the drink refills are free. Each table has unique salt and pepper shakers, sort of a homage to Mt Dora's antique / collectible image. Unfortunately the place looks dumpy, floors look terrible, wall art is weird. That leads to questions about the cleanliness and sanitation. I'm returning less frequently as conditions deteriorate. read more

Fun diner type vibe restaurant in the Mount Dora area. We popped in here on our way to an antique market nearby. There is plenty of parking in a lot out front and the space inside is more plentiful than it appears from the outside. We were greeted and told to pick a seat ourselves wherever suited us. After sitting we were offered menus (pictured) with breakfast, lunch and (surprisingly) Mexican Fiesta offerings. There is also a weekly specials chalkboard so check that out. I opted for the hot stacks with a side of the ham. Everything came out as ordered and was very tasty. The hot cakes are HUGE! The only downers were that my husband's hot cakes were slightly overcooked towards the burnt side. He didn't end up eating much of them, but we had plenty of other food so he was full from other items. The inside has an eclectic Americana vibe to it with knick knacks and miscellaneous items throughout. I have came to this establishment quite a few times. Food was subpar...service was meh.....and then I hope on fb and seen this place was infested with German cockroaches. I am pissed I took my kids to eat there and feel absolutely betrayed they served us food knowing dang well they had roaches crawling on food and silverware. DO NOT GO HERE. They say they fixed the problem but im sorry ain't no way they got rid of them roaches and cleaned the place up in 24 hours. Avoid at all cost you have been WARNED! read more

I've been here several times for breakfast. The food is good and service is excellent. But my family went last night to try the prime rib dinner. First when we pulled in the parking lot, at 6 pm, there was only 2 cars. That should have been our first clue. Anyway, went in & ordered our dinner. The prime rib actually came out COLD. The baked potatoes were barely warm but hard as a rock. The only item on my plate that was hot was the corn nuggets. There is no excuse for this! When we told the server, she said "they have that problem sometimes ". Well do something about it!! There was only one other person in the place when we left. Does that tell you that you need to do something if you are going to stay in business?? We won't be coming back for dinner. read more

First and only time eating here. Had the ribeye for dinner and ordered it medium. It came out overcooked, tough, and swimming in grease. At first I thought the steak itself smelled odd but maybe it was the grease. Nope, 3 bites in it was the steak that was rancid. Spent 2 days at home from work. I'm not sure why this place has a poor overall rating. This is where you go when you want good, solid homemade food at a good price. We've gone for dinner to try the "all you can eat " meals they offer on weeknights. Both times I was pleasantly surprised. We did the spaghetti and meatballs and taco nights. I'm not even a big fan of spaghetti and meatballs but trust me- try them! They give you a salad to start and then a big plate of spaghetti, meatballs, meat sauce, and breadsticks. The meatballs are probably the best I've ever had and the sauce is overloaded with meat. The tacos come with chips, salsa, rice, and refried beans. The beans were my favorite and the tacos were overfilled. They don't skimp at all. Where else can you get dinner for under $10? Give it a try. We haven't been for breakfast yet but definitely will try it at some point. read more

Once again, HayStax delivers and this time for breakfast! Prices are better than most fast food and the portion size is ridiculously large. Did I mention how great the buttery hash browns were? It has been 16 months since my review of Haystax, plus we had dinner this time, so I thought I would give a quick update. Our server apologized because they were short-staffed, but we really didn't notice. This is why we have tablets to read on. We went on Prime Rib night so we could try it, and it was well-prepared and not tough. For sides I had fried green beans, which were a bit spicy but crunchy and excellent. I also had a baked potato. They weren't very generous with the toppings for it, but I suppose I could have asked for more. I also ordered a taco 'cause I felt like having one. It was, well, a taco. I must add the grilled slice of thick toast was potentially addictive. My wife had regular green beans and fried something (I forget). It was all good and I look forward to going back again to try their baked spaghetti. read more

We ordered: -2 Pecan Hot Cakes with Links Breakfast -Denver 3 Egg Omelet Breakfast w/Potatoes & Raisin Toast -Supreme 3 Egg Omelet Breakfast w/Potatoes & Toast -El Paso Combo which includes a Smothered Beef & Bean Burrito, a Beef Taco, a Beef Enchilada, Rice & Beans -Fried Chicken Livers w/Potato Salad & Yam Patties Everything is very much flavorful, fresh & our order was up & out in 20min despite them being very busy. I've heard only good things, was hungry, and wanted a place to dine in so I just stopped in on a whim. I asked the nice young couple coming out if they recommended it and when they responded "it is always good," I felt confident in my choice. My expectations were quickly squashed in the first 5 minutes inside. They are NOT following social distancing guides! I was told by the unmasked and ungloved greeter to grab a seat anywhere and had to excuse myself past two people waiting at the very small entrance for their take-out order who were not wearing masks. To my amazement, none of the tables or booths were eliminated for social distances and all were in service or available for guests. As I sat at my table, I watched unmasked, ungloved waitresses take orders and deliver food. The nice girl clearing tables was the only employee I saw wearing a mask. From my seat, I could see through the small kitchen window opening, and the person inside preparing food was also not wearing a mask. I am not sure if this was just that one person or indicative of all. My menu was not been sanitized. When I opened it, it had something stuck to it. ‍ disgusting even in normal circumstances and clearly not sanitized. The hostess whisked it away and returned with another. As the hostess removed the unsanitary menu, the elderly couple at the next table stopped her to tell her that they had been there 10 minutes and no one had taken there order. At that point, I left. I had to squeeze last 6 people blocking the exit and doors waiting for orders to leave. ‍ I will be back, but not until social distancing is not required. read more

A friend and I were suggested this restaurant by the staff at TreasureMarts, next door, and it did not disappoint! We ordered the mozzarella moons and fried pickles to start with, and they were out of this world. They use a homemade spaghetti sauce with meat, which I am not used to, but it was absolutely delicious. I told the sweet waitress who took care of us that they need to pack this in a jar sell it. We had pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon, and my friend ordered fries and chicken tenders. Everything was great, the staff was wonderful, I'll be coming back with the family!! read more

Caught off guard by excellence! Five of us walked in at 2:55 without realizing they close at 3 on Monday afternoons. We were distracted and oblivious to it until we were well into our meals! This was due in large part to our gracious and friendly server Brenda! She was kind and helpful as we placed our somewhat picky orders and the food came out from the kitchen looking like it had received the care VIP customers deserved. We were so thankful that we were treated so much better than we deserved for keeping them way later on their short day! I know they have more than this location and the food is delicious but the service we received really makes me want to let everyone know that the Old 441 location, tucked away and across the railroad tracks is worth visiting! Mom loved the chicken gizzards (and had to take half of them home!) and dad said the liver and onions were delicious. People are extremely friendly here. They remind you of an old town small town country feel. The pancakes are absolutely delicious. Corn beef and hash is out of this world and the hashbrowns are terrific. They also may Holmes made dessert on site. I gave three stars, because sometimes the food is inconsistent such as a pancakes and breakfast items. Hmmm... where do I start? This is a restaurant so focused on getting you out of there to make as much money as possible per table, that they have forgotten the meaning of service. They have an issue taking too much time to serve you, but take their sweet time when asking "would you like to tip?". In addition, the servers WILL talk ill about you in the kitchen. No "Welcome or Welcome to Haystax." You'll notice the bad service when you stand there for 5 mins assuming they will seat you, only to realize that you seat yourself (which is fine if someone had acknowledged that that was the case.) If you choose this restaurant, prepare for a poor hustle and bustle atmosphere and service so bad that it is just sad. read more

Used to be quick service, Used to have a decent breakfast. What changed? 45 min wait for food that came out like warm? Coffee refills spot on, not so much on tea or water. Usually get decent service but not today. No social distancing, a few servers in masks? Hmm, don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Food is amazing especially for the proportions and price! I got biscuits and gravy, western omelet, and Hashbrown casserole. My only suggestion would be to be call the Hashbrown casserole for what it is. Hashbrowns, onions, and cheese. Otherwise yum! Wish I could add pictures! read more

Great spot. We had 3 adults and 2 children. We were greeted right away and seated ourselves. Just as we were seated our server introduced herself. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had the special (shepherds pie). So so good. If they were in my neighborhood, I would eat there 2 or 3x a week. read more
