Fun diner type vibe restaurant in the Mount Dora area. We popped in here on our way to an antique market nearby. There is plenty of parking in a lot out front and the space inside is more plentiful than it appears from the outside. We were greeted and told to pick a seat ourselves wherever suited us. After sitting we were offered menus (pictured) with breakfast, lunch and (surprisingly) Mexican Fiesta offerings. There is also a weekly specials chalkboard so check that out. I opted for the hot stacks with a side of the ham. Everything came out as ordered and was very tasty. The hot cakes are HUGE! The only downers were that my husband's hot cakes were slightly overcooked towards the burnt side. He didn't end up eating much of them, but we had plenty of other food so he was full from other items. The inside has an eclectic Americana vibe to it with knick knacks and miscellaneous items throughout. Overall: A- One slight hiccup on some hot cakes, the rest was super solid and worth a repeat visit.

I have came to this establishment quite a few times. Food was subpar...service was meh.....and then I hope on fb and seen this place was infested with German cockroaches. I am pissed I took my kids to eat there and feel absolutely betrayed they served us food knowing dang well they had roaches crawling on food and silverware. DO NOT GO HERE. They say they fixed the problem but im sorry ain't no way they got rid of them roaches and cleaned the place up in 24 hours. Avoid at all cost you have been WARNED!

A great place with local folk - friendly and great honest food at a reasonable price. Off the beaten track in Mt Dora off of old 441!

Food ok . My husband didn't care for sauce on burrito, some kind of gravy. Pancakes were cold, sausage was rubbery. Have had good food in the past here ?

I'm not sure why this place has a poor overall rating. This is where you go when you want good, solid homemade food at a good price. We've gone for dinner to try the "all you can eat " meals they offer on weeknights. Both times I was pleasantly surprised. We did the spaghetti and meatballs and taco nights. I'm not even a big fan of spaghetti and meatballs but trust me- try them! They give you a salad to start and then a big plate of spaghetti, meatballs, meat sauce, and breadsticks. The meatballs are probably the best I've ever had and the sauce is overloaded with meat. The tacos come with chips, salsa, rice, and refried beans. The beans were my favorite and the tacos were overfilled. They don't skimp at all. Where else can you get dinner for under $10? Give it a try. We haven't been for breakfast yet but definitely will try it at some point.

Once again, HayStax delivers and this time for breakfast! Prices are better than most fast food and the portion size is ridiculously large. Did I mention how great the buttery hash browns were? Or the size and deliciousness of the blueberry pancakes? I wish I had a picture of the food to share but it was just so good we ate it!

We made a delivery order for our breakfast & lunch for the day & were definitely conveniently surprised. The portions were more than adequate, the presentation was nice & the order was very precise. We ordered: -2 Pecan Hot Cakes with Links Breakfast -Denver 3 Egg Omelet Breakfast w/Potatoes & Raisin Toast -Supreme 3 Egg Omelet Breakfast w/Potatoes & Toast -El Paso Combo which includes a Smothered Beef & Bean Burrito, a Beef Taco, a Beef Enchilada, Rice & Beans -Fried Chicken Livers w/Potato Salad & Yam Patties Everything is very much flavorful, fresh & our order was up & out in 20min despite them being very busy. Will definitely be dining here time & time again!

That's what we did that morning. Ambiance was great. It felt like each little dining area was a different room in a big, semi-haunted mansion. Eclectic books and paintings and mirrors and other baubles adorned much of the walls, making for plenty of looking around time during you meal. Very fun. Service was really good. The pacing of the meal was great, and our server was very friendly. We were always with drink, and she knew the menu backwards and forwards, even the special dishes of the night. As for the food, we went whole hog with two apps, two mains, and a dessert to share. Out of everything we ordered, only one of them remains on the current menu, which is a great sign. I love a rotating, seasonal menu. It shows effort, and it definitely encourages return patronage. We started with the Ciabatta Board (toasted ciabatta, house butter made with sun dried tomato, roasted red pepper, parmesan, garlic, chive). This was nice. It was very sun dried tomato, so if you don't like them, don't get this. But very soft, toasty bread made this very lovely. We also got an escargot app which was very creamy and soup-like. The snails were complimented well by the spinach. And the whole thing came with a nice little breadstick. I saved some of the bread from the board for some sopping. Pro move. For our mains, we got a miso butter New York strip and some sort of Asian themed duck. For both mains, the proteins were cooked very very well, and the portion sizes were a good size compared to what I was expecting. Both sets of taters were good. The mash was very smooth and creamy, the roasted baby potatoes were cooked all the way through and were nice and naturally buttery. Both were served with a seasonal veg mix that was pretty ok. It rounded out the plate, but it won't change your world or anything. We finished off with one of the best slices of cheesecake I've ever had. Incredibly smooth with the perfect cheesecake density, the perfect amount of chocolate chips inside, and a nice little crust that added that little bit of texture that is needed from the crust. Overall, quite a meal! To survive in a small town with these prices and those quality ingredientes and that unique of a menu design is very impressive. I will certainly be back.

Cons: Not a single con. A great little visit. Tips: The menu has completely changed since we went, which is good, so I can't recommend any specific dishes. But the ones I see on the menu now look absolutely banging.

The Southern burger was great, but I tossed off the raw onions as I absolutely hate them, and added the lovely pickled onions from my wife's salad, which gave the perfect amount of flavor and color. Don't you agree? Give me a LIKE if you do !!! The crepe was next level. Delicate crepe, very soft ripe bananas, sauce was not disgustingly sugary, and the vanilla ice cream was smooth and soft, not icy and sweet. Dunno what brand they use, or if they churn the cream fresh in-house, but it made my day.

There are lots of delightful restaurants there (according to yelpers) but many were located downtown and parking was hard to find so we decided to go to Fifth Avenue Streatery since we had driven by and there was lots of parking. All of which the tables are outside on a charming patio with lots of interesting decor. It was 11:30 so the day was pleasant and sitting outside was fine. Not sure how I would feel about that in August. Our waitress was Haley (guessing at the spelling) and she was bubbly and very attentive. The menu wasn't overwhelming and I always think that's a good sign that most of the food is being prepared fresh and not pulled from a freezer. My mom ordered the fish sandwich with tomato and cucumber salad. After ordering the Italian Haley said they were out of beef until the owner arrived so I went for the day's special which was a seafood basket: two pieces of fried fish, four huge shrimp and clam strips. Clam strips are not my favorite but these were very crisp and tasty. It was served with fries and cold slaw. We both agreed the food was very good. I asked for some cocktail sauce and after a few minutes she came back with saying she had to make some. It was fantastic, very horseradish forward which I loved. I am glad we couldn't locate our first two choices since we got to eat at this funky little place and have the best server in all of Mt. Dora.

As a vegetarian and my wife being Gluten Free, we wondered what we would order. If we knew our friends better, we would have suggested going elsewhere, but did not say much. I saw that they have a side salad and wondered if they could make that into an entree portion for me. The very nice waitress came back with a resounding 'no', they could not accommodate. The menu was almost 100% meat or fish. There was one vegetarian plate, which was expensive and I could not see the value reflected in the rather large asking price. Instead, I ordered 3 sides, Brussel Sprouts, grits and sweet potatoes, each $5.00. They were all good with the exception of the Brussel Sprouts having a gas taste. So too much flame there. My wife eats meat and had the Prime Rib (first time in 20 years). She said it was good and it was $34. The Salmon was also $34. Our friends each had the blackened salmon and they were also $34. These came with 1 side. To us, we felt the food was overpriced. The mostly meat menu caters obviously to only meat eaters and the owner was not willing to make any changes as our friend wanted to leave the bacon oil out, and that didn't happen. I suppose they do not need our business and our friends felt the same way. Of course, after hearing such good things about the place, we were sorry we went there. Or course, if in the future the name of the restaurant comes up, we will share our experiences. Word of mouth advertising came be good or bad. Seemed like the waitress has had to give the 'no change' answer lots of times before. So, this was not our kind of restaurant as they didn't serve what we wanted. Oh well, we tried.
