I read some other yelp reviews and was very wary about coming here, but I decided to give it a try myself. I will say that all of the reviews were correct. The meat was pretty tasty, but the portions are laughably small. There's absolutely no value in this and I will never return nor will I ever tell somebody else to go to it because the prices are outrageous for the portion sizes and I'm someone who doesn't eat a lot portions. Now the sides were not very good either the collard greens were super vinegary. The mac & cheese had so much oil on top of it that I decided to pass. The cornbread was dry, falling apart and tasteless and the barbecue bread was great value bread, whipped in the pan with barbecue sauce putting me in the mind of a crispy French toast that tasted like barbecue. The brisket chili was pretty good, but I'm not coming back for it. I'm still looking for a good barbecue place in Mount Dora, but this isn't it. read more

I ordered the jerk chicken, based on the photo on the wall. The photo depicts a well seasoned, grilled (slightly charred? Just the way I like it) piece of chicken. Maybe not "dry" per se, but certainly not wet. What I got was chunks of what appeared to be boiled chicken sitting in a sauce. No grill lines, no seasoning visible to the eye, just a soppy pile of chicken that had turned dark brown from soaking up the liquid it sat in. I was already bummed out, knowing it wasn't at all what I wanted, but I still gave it a try. The texture was just what I imagined it would be, very soft and no bite, nothing to chew on. And the overpowering taste of the sauce; it didn't even taste like chicken. The potato salad and coleslaw weren't good either. I'm sorry, I will never be back. :( read more

Let me start by saying the spareribs were delicious and truly didn't need the very small container of the vinegar based (?) sauce. The excellent rub stood on its own. Been to the Sparks, NV end of year championship rib comp and believe the ribs could compete. The sides (mac & cheese and potato salad) were delicious as well. Nice and cheesy mac and potato salad with just the right amount of vinegar to compliment the ribs. The 3 star rating is because the portions are very small. Got two bones and a small section of rib end. The sides were not much better size wise. If you look at their wall poster, the rib plater has what appears to be 5 ribs. I got two. Still $18 but with half the food advertised. Didn't realize the discrepancy until I was done and on my way out and noticed the poster. Went to their web site prior to posting my review and sure enough, 5 ribs! Good food but no value for the money. Maybe should have tried the bakery for a sandwich. Won't be going back. read more

A great no hoopla place to grab a taco or two. You can order a la carte or an entire meal. Everything is made to order. So don't be in too much of a hurry. The Sides are great, but expensive considering portions. The actual meat / main part of the dishes are very inconsistent. For example, most recently, I got rib platter (meat and 2 sides) and there was literally no meat on the ribs and they tasted old, and barely any side portions. for $31. And the pulled pork sandwhich is extremely expensive, considering how small the sandwhich really is. I've noticed a pattern with the meat. I found it just ok- we stopped for lunch and it is located in a marketplace building with other eateries and a brewery- very little dining space inside, we opted to take one of the few tables outside. We weren't advised that they had lunch specials, and ended up ordering a dinner plate to split. The bread (I know, not really the meal) was hard to bite into, the mac-n-cheese over-cooked and over-seasoned & was not at all my taste. Black beans and rice was nothing special. The brisket was good, fatty and not a huge portion for the cost. We have definitely had better. Thursday lunch could have been better. read more

I have been craving BBQ for about a month, so I was wondering about this restaurant that I passed every walk through Downtown Mount Dora named Munchies Live BBQ. I was so excited to have a BBQ joint so close to my home. We walked in and ordered. When the food came it didn't look great but I was hungry. It tasted how it looked. The BBQ sauce, if you want to call it that, was flavorless and thin. The meat was subpar, nothing to rave about. The collard greens had so many stems in them and the leaves were mush. The mac-n-cheese was a sin to southern baked macs everywhere. Just NASTY! The steamed broccoli was gross, it tasted like warmed steamed broccoli from frozen. The slaw wasn't good, KFC's slaw is better. The best thing about the meal was the garlic bread. The worst part of the experience was when we asked for napkins. Stopped in this area of mount Dora to do the touristy thing and have some lunch. There are about five or six eateries in this building and my friend and I chose the lunch special of two lunch things for $10 rather than $6 each. I chose pulled pork and my friend grilled chicken. Each came with rice, a bean choice (mine was barbecue beans) and a small bread slice. I found the pork waaay too smoky and did not have much pork flavor the sauce side was just plain watery tomato based sauce. The rice with beans over the top was a bit salty. A little work on quality will help this busines succeed in my opinion. The special also came with a lemonade or iced tea. That was good. read more

Heard so many good things about this place but man was I disappointed. I talked my wife into trying this place out, now I owe her lol, due to my bad choice. Location is not ideal. It's kind of crammed in there and the atmosphere is kind of depressing. We ordered basically a sampler for two people. When I say the meats were greasy, I cannot accurately describe the amount of grease other than to say they were swimming in grease. It was as if the lady had lifted a pan they'd let the meat simmer in all day and just tipped it over in to our to go box. Or maybe they emptied their fryer. It was an insane amount. That being said we followed the GPS down a dirt road past a small church and onto a beautiful lot full of shady trees and nice lake. Found this rustic place down a path in Gotha and booooyyyyy!!!!! I was so amazed. Truly a unique out door dinning experience. The kids were able to run around and play down by the lake. Ordered the family meal and it was sooooo much food!!!! Ribs, pulled pork, and Jerk chicken. I lived in SC for 4 years of my life. Ate my way through TN, GA, NC and other States. Inevitably BBQ was part of that culinary journey. In other words, I know a thing or two about BBQ, good BBQ at that! Munchies more than hit the spot. For starters Shaina welcomes you warmly underneath a tent with a colorful menu and various social media platform signs. In other words, spreading the word is good for business. My opinion is I'm writing this a bit conflicted as I would like this place all to myself. We were disappointed they had no brisket, so we ordered a mix of chopped pork, chopped chicken, ribs, and an assortment of sides that included Mac'n Cheese, Cole slaw, baked beans, rice and beans. After one bite I understood why they had run out of Brisket: if it was at least as good as everything we tasted we need to call ahead next time to ensure we know when to come in. Everything was on point with the various versions of BBQ sauce perfectly complementing each bite. Did I mention the ribs fell off the the bone? All in all, they don't have something good here.
