On the last morning of our weekend getaway, we decided to try Cody's on 4th for breakfast. Almost all of the tables on the sidewalk were already filled so we chose a table inside. We were warmly greeted and had our choice of any table inside the place. I will admit, I am a complete and total iced tea snob. Give me old tea, give me a tea mix, give me tea from equipment that hasn't been cleaned...I can tell and your score goes down automatically. As I continue to discover what tasty Mount Dora has to offer, I was pleasantly surprised at Cody's today. You know a sandwich is good when you don't have to add a single thing to it. My pastrami on rye bread ($14.50) was excellent! Tasty sweet tea to go along with it is the smart choice. I was also given a bag of sea salt chips to go with the sandwich, a sliver of pickle, and a packet of mustard. I appreciated the mustard on the side - I prefer to pick my own condiments rather than have them slathered excessively, spoiling the natural flavor of a good sandwich. This simple eatery is a standout in Mount Dora for their fresh-baked goods and delicious breakfasts. I am still dreaming about the Hangover breakfast sandwich three weeks later. We were are party to four on a Saturday morning while visiting the magical town that is Mount Dora. We sat outside under an umbrella and had the best carrot cake as an appetizer. Fresh herbs were picked for cocktails straight from garden pots out front. The service was lovely. Ham and kitchen tasted rubbery. Excellent tomato basil soup. Male server talked extremely loud and was annoying, as he ate facing customers as everyone around him was subjected to his reasons for why he hasn't gone to nearby Pisces Rising and The Handlebar. He was a bit pushy and rushed us in deciding on the menu. He also messed up our order, because he was too busy chatting it up with the girl server. I almost walked away but my family was very hungry and didn't feel like walking to another restaurant. First, on a Sunday around noon and based on restaurant information I was expected to have brunch. well that was not the case. The two people at the restaurant were a bit annoyed I inquired about it. Not sure what was going on but felt that they didn't want us there. Weird.. They were not young people by any stretch of the imagination. Anyhow, my kid ordered the Philadelphia Cheesesteak. It came in a hamburger bun not seared so it was so soggy, the whole thing felt apart. She ended up just eating the meat with a fork, so much for a sandwich. It came with a bag of potato chips - not as fresh as expected. My hubby ordered the Farmer Quiche which came with an almost non existent salad. The quiche was cold, lacked seasoning.. Hungry on a rainy Sunday morning, we ran into one of the only few opened spots in downtown. Cody's on 4th is a really cute spot, we sat inside as the rain had started to take force. We were greeted immediately and offered something to drink. I got a huge warm cup of coffee for which I was very glad, I think the coffee was my favorite part. The reason why I'm giving it only 3 stars is because the food was extremely average. I ordered a turkey, chipotle cheddar cheese biscuit. The description sounded really good, but I got an equivalence of a fast food sandwich. There was nothing special about it. I don't even think they make their own biscuits. Cute little breakfast cafe we decided to stop by while exploring after a half marathon this past weekend. We went inside which was very busy (probably since there was a race), the woman inside said we can sit ourselves outside and they would come out to wait on us. It took maybe 5 minutes, until someone came outside to give us menus. We ordered our drinks right away while we looked over the menu. Over the course of the entire time we were there, we had about 4 or 5 different staff members to either ask for order, serve food, etc. It seems they were all helping each other out since it was a busy place. We ordered our food which was just a couple of breakfast sandwiches. The couple that was sitting next to us and had already enjoyed their breakfast, we got to talking to were locals and said the food comes out quick. Unfortunately for us, the food took way longer than anticipated especially for the two menu items we ordered but we just happened to come at a time where they were packed...lots of bigger parties we saw leaving as we waited for our food. I didn't pay much attention to the time but it probably took at least 30-40 minutes. The food was fresh and hot when it came out at least! I ordered an english muffin sandwich with an egg, spinach and tomato (the egg is a patty which I assume are pre-cooked). My boyfriend got a breakfast bagel sandwich. They both came with a small cup of fruit which was fresh. Overall, the customer service was excellent, food was fresh and tasty, coffee was fresh and replenished when asked. My only complaint would be the long wait for the food and the fact they just dropped the check off without asking if we needed anything else...but I do take in consideration that they seemed to have their hands full.
