Some places just hit you right in the heart, and today The Mason Jar did exactly that. The first time I ate here was about 12 years ago. It quickly became my mom's favorite restaurant after she moved to the area, and whenever I came to visit, she couldn't wait to bring me here. I still remember how good the fried chicken was back then. My mom passed away 8 years ago, and I hadn't been back since... until today. Friends of ours moved from Ohio to Florida and live not too far from The Mason Jar. They kept talking about this amazing comfort-food spot they couldn't wait to take us to. As you've probably guessed by now -- it was The Mason Jar. The moment it clicked, I had a smile on my face and a tear in my eye. Everything felt just like I remembered: great food, friendly staff, and that warm, welcoming atmosphere. The only thing missing was my mom. In her honor, I ordered the fried chicken again. It came with three sides, and I chose coleslaw, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. It was absolutely delicious -- comforting, flavorful, and exactly how I remembered it. Stop here for lunch today while in Florida. We were seated and then greated by Dawn. She had worked here 28yrs. She took great care of us. I ordered a BLT with fried okra. Both were good. The BLT was lacking some B was good overall. The rest of my party had the roast beef dinner and fried chicken dinner. Their servings were huge. First time trying The mason jar and even though we originally came to have breakfast we ended up having lunch because they stop serving breakfast at 11am. We ordered: Country fried steak with brown gravy, green beans , candied yams , & fries with a lemonade Stuff peppers with mashed potatoes and brown gravy and a corn muffin and a side of pickled beets ( I'm obsessed with beets ) Overall the food was pretty good . Great ambiance it is exactly what you want for a country cooking breakfast spot in a rural area. They had fried balogna which is hard to find and it was delicious, also had the tropical fruit and eggs over easy which was also good. Service was great she kept my cup full and offered a cup to go. I saw The Mason Jar on Yelp for good breakfast menu and decided to try it out. I got there after the breakfast hours. The seating area looks like you are back in time with all the old pictures, hunting and cowboy items. The server was very nice and the highlight of my visit. So I settled on the Country Fried Steak, Candied Yams, Green Beans and Fries. That wasn't a good decision. The Candied Yams weren't sweet. The Green Beans has no real season to it. I had to add pepper to it. The Country Fried Steak was good but the Brown gravy upset my stomach due to a lot of milk in it. Fries for the win! Wouldn't come back for Lunch or Dinner. We decided to have the All you Can Eat Fish this past Friday. We got there and were told it was a 10-15 minute wait. We went outside to wait, due to no seats in their indoor waiting area. It was about 35 minutes and my husband went to check on the status of our table. Turned out someone else got our table. They seated us promptly after this mishap. We got our drinks ordered and waited about 25 minutes to order our food. Then after ordering waited another 25 minutes for our food. We spent 2 hours here. It just seemed so disorganized and chaotic. Well folks I think I found the local feed-mill, there no doubt about the popularity of this watering hole the non-alcoholic beverages here are served in volumetric portions that requires two hands to sip and the entrées come with (3) choice sides. Arriving here at the noon hour on the weekend it's likely you'll find a wait, there was a wait but not for us since there was only the two of us, but there were several herds tied out front and they weren't going to be seated anything soon. It seems some of the patrons here treat this as an event even though it's no a buffet and the food isn't served family style. This restaurant is well staffed with friendly servers, the decor is comfortable as are the entrées I think any time the sign on front of your building only says "home style cooking" they will come, especially at these prices. The Food - Open-face roast beef sandwich on white bread and mashed potatoes with brown gravy this seems to be a daily special I think it was $11.99. The thinly sliced roast beef was tender and flavorful and completely covered the bread and mashed potatoes definitely comfort food. The chicken tenders were uhm tender lightly breaded and tasty, the crinkle fries and cole slaw were good too but the collards with a few shakes of Louisiana Tabasco Peppers in vinegar was excellent the only way they could of been better is if they were served in triplicate, you can order these as all three of your sides you know. Okay. Hang to you hats but I have to tell you that I just had one of the most outstanding and delicious amazing fish fry! I could not believe that you can get an endless fish, fish fry and three, yes I said three sides for $15.99! This is my first but definitely not my last time eating there! The dinning area was very nice and home like. Not too big or not too small. Our fabulous waitress Debbie, was wonderful and treated us like valued customers, close to being family who gave us great service! Now the meal, the three sides were delicious. I ordered one blackened fish fry and one fried. The blackened fish melted in my mouth and the fried was very moist. Both fish dinners were delicious. All of the wait staff were very nice and looked like they enjoyed working there. I highly recommend eating dinner there! Delicious food and outstanding customer service. You ever go into a place and look at the menu only to get confused what to order due to too many great choices? This is what happened to me today at the Mason Jar. On our weekly ride through Central Florida we decided to stop at the Mason Jar for lunch. Even though they were crowded we were able to be seated right away. Since I am on a diet I had the house salad. Everyone got a different item and all seemed to enjoy their meal. One of the guys ordered Peach Cobbler with Ice Cream, which looked very good. Went on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30. There were not many cars, but lots of people waiting. They said it would be 20-25 minutes, but was only about 15. The server was there quickly and brought our drinks. (They serve Pepsi products). I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger, medium rare with fries. The food came out fairly quickly. Cute place Very busy - they do lots of business and have quick turn around. Was told 25 minute wait but was lower to 15 Lots of choice and specials. Good sweet tea. Had the pot roast it was okay. GF burger was just okay and not close to being cooked as requested (if you can't cook burgers to order (R, MR, M, MW, WD)... don't ask. Large portions fair price. Hash was phenomenal and even though the biscuit wasn't homemade, it wasn't bad services. Absolutely superb. We couldn't ask for more bees flooding around us asking how we were. Could they get us anything? Could they take our plates? Could they fill us with more coffee? Can't say enough except that I don't have fiction. This is a cozy restaurant with a country vibe serving up all the comfort food. From cornbread to dumplings to ham steak and collared greens, good Lord! Don't dine on a diet or you'll be missing out on some straight up deliciousness. Our server was attentive and our meals were accurate upon arrival. The servings sizes are generous and I appreciate the separate sides. All three of us left with full bellies and leftovers. I would definitely return when in town. They offer a simple menu filled with the basic things you would find in a meat and three type place. This is not a disparaging comment, but simply a fact. A lot of times we are looking for a plate of comfort food and The Mason Jar offers that. The service is just another extension to what you woukd expect in a southern country restaurant. The service is not polished, but it is friendly and a nice extension to the comfort food featured on the menu. Breakfast was a decent meal and the place had a good crowd. It was 4th of July weekend and all of the staff were dressed in red, white and blue costumes. It was quite festive. When you arrive on the weekend, you will wait about 30 minutes to get a table, but don't leave they're worth it. The biscuits were flaky and delicious, the gravy was very tasty. I ordered eggs over easy, bacon, potatoes and rye toast. All were so good! The best part of all was the price. They're a more reasonably priced than any other restaurant for breakfast. It's a 40 minute drive for my family to get there, but worth the trip. The restaurant's decor has a western theme that's fun to see. The service was the best, too! This place....wow. 6 Stars to this place. The wife and I headed out for our weekly Sunday morning bike ride to find another place for a mid morning breakfast. This place was the jackpot!!! Place was packed yet we were greeted promptly and told there was a 5-10 minute wait. No problem with that at all. First thing I noticed was the restrooms being located in the foyer. Good location for those. Service was exceptional. Each and every single person working the front of the house were actively helping each other out. We had 3 people visit our table during our visit. This is why the wait times are at a minimum. Food was also exceptionally good at a fair price. Wife had a meat lover omelette and I had a breakfast combo with 2 eggs and bacon, hash browns and wheat toast. All were perfectly cooked and delicious. Kudos to the kitchen staff. It was perfect. The outdoor appearance is nicely landscaped with some nice rustic designs and decor. Inside is also rustic and clean, clean, clean. I only have one suggestion to make this a 10 star goldmine, ditch the razor thin flatware for some mid-quality flatware. It's not a dealbreaker by any means. See you again soon.
