Every time I visit Mt. Dora, I make reservations to eat here. The food is always delicious. The service is great. Outdoor dining is optional, so unless it's really a cooler day, we enjoy eating inside. There are plenty of umbrellas outdoors so you are well protected from the heat, but visiting from the desert area of SoCal, I prefer to be much cooler! read more

Yum! This place was a recommendation from a local and it did not disappoint! Another local called it "prices rising" which is also true as it was not cheap but the quality was evident. We started with the blueberry old fashioned and they were super tasty but a shock on the bill at $16 each! Then I went with the Cesar salad that came with white anchovies. This was an awesome salad but heavy on the hearts of romaine and I'm a bigger fan of the leafy lettuce. The anchovies were fresh and delicious! Finally, the main course. You know when you order and the waitress (Shanaya) says good choice, that's my favorite!, You're in for a treat! It was the best shrimp and grits I've ever had! I have been bouncing back and forth from 4 to 5 stars for this review but this dish made it 5 stars hands down. Had a large family event recently at this Mt.Dora restaurant. Our first event was a rehearsal dinner for 21 quests. The décor and ambiance was wonderful. The staff was very accommodating and attentive. The main entrees included NY Strip steak, Salmon, and Mushroom Ravioli. I personally had the steak but tried the salmon and ravioli. Simply said, I enjoyed all 3 and would be happy to order any of the 3 again.. After the dinner we had a welcome cocktail hour with about 60 in attendance. Great event... Servers again stepped up and our quests were taken care of in a timely and attentive manner. We had several apps for them to enjoy. The crab cakes were my favorite. All the locals must have an investment in this place because everyone recommended it. While they probably meant well, they must not eat out much outside of Mount Dora. The Tile fish of the day was small, not tasty at all, and only came with a small amount of tasty rice for $40. My Paella was an even bigger disappointment. i didn't know mussels could be that small. The bowl was only 1/3rd full. We left the restaurant hungry and disappointed! I should also mention they let dogs sit in the main dinning room. Great restaurant to get fresh and delicious seafood in a beautiful part of historic Mount Dora right next to Lake Dora. Even thought it was a very busy Saturday night with multiple events happening around town, our large party was seated in a very timely manner and our service was good. Also, everyone who interacted with us was very friendly. For appetizers we ordered the Caribbean Crab Cakes and the Calamari Fries. The crab cakes were small but very good. They had the perfect breading on the outside and the filling on the inside was delicious. The pineapple salsa and pina colada sauce paired well with the crab cakes. The Calamari fries and pickled cherry peppers were good as well. They had the perfect crispness and I loved dipping them in the sambal aioli. For entrees we got the Fresh Catch which was Halibut and the Crab Stuffed Salmon. I highly recommend trying the Fresh Catch especially if it's halibut. My halibut was cooked perfectly, it was so tender and moist. Also, the red rice mixture it was topped on was absolutely amazing, I would go back again for that meal. The Crab Stuffed Salmon was good but the salmon was a little overcooked. Other than that it had great flavor, the crab meat was good and the asparagus and mashed potatoes were perfect. My kids got their kid's cheeseburger and macaroni and cheese with a side of fries. They all enjoyed their meals so I know it had to be good. Loved the service, the food, and the feel of the entire setting! Arrived to meet a friend & she had gotten a table outside. Laid back Saturday vibes. Some people were dressed up and some were coming off the water in swim coverups. There is a bar outside & the drinks looked amazing that were going by. I asked the Server for a Napa Valley Cab Sav recommendation. He brought a Napa sample & Paso Robles. He was polite & knew his red wines. We shared food and everything had amazing flavors. We were on a brief (wedding) trip to Mount Dora and tried to get reservations but everything was closed, we tried to walk-on to the outdoor dining area but wait was very long, as I said, for good reasons. The manager Joshua helped us out and we got here on a rainy evening, but our experience was a warm and comfortable one. Started with a few cocktails and I highly recommend the Blue Envy, a smoked blueberry old fashioned. My spouse enjoyed the crab stuffed salmon and everything was as perfect as you could ask. I jumped in for the filet mignon, grilled asparagus, and could not resist the fried shrimp mac & cheese, which I also highly recommend. You will not regret it. Have had bad experiences with steaks lately so hesitated but decided it worth the chance, and the gamble paid off. Steak was cooked perfectly and was that melt in your mouth experience. Each bite I took I needed a moment of silence to enjoy, and I am seriously not kidding about that. Wait staff was great, attentive and friendly. Love the environment and can assure you we will return on our next trip, even though we'll think ahead about making early reservations so we don't miss out. Probably my 3rd or 4th time here. Never stop loving the food and drinks here. The ambiance is great and the service is almost perfect but can be a bit hit or miss. If I could leave a zero for the hostess or front of the house person who answered the phone this afternoon around 3:30-3:45 that would be more than deserved. I called and inquired about a reservation for three people at 5:00 and was told they had nothing but walk in availability. I explained I was not from the area and coming into town to visit family, so asked what the likelihood of being seated as walk-ins at that time based on her experience would be. She couldn't answer that question and rambled on about things that had nothing to do with my very specific question so we did not dine here and would suggest the owners hire a better front of house person to answer simple questions regarding dining here. I heard good reviews but the first impression is the most important and theirs stunk. I can assure our ticket price is $$$ so a miss for this spot. Don't skip on the shrimp Mac n cheese! It's my favorite and has been on the menu for years. When visiting Mount Dora I have to stop here. The patio a great spot to enjoy a red sangria. Coming in from a boating on the lake was ready for amazing dining experience and that's just what we got along with a gorgeous sunset with soft music playing in the sound system. Order salad had fresh and colorful of mixed greens and a light homemade vinaigrette dressing and the portion size was enough for 2 people. Help stop my hunger pains. While waiting for our meals we Order drinks. Nice selection of wines and cocktails with impressive presentation. Look at my videos. They have complimentary bread service. Yummo hot and fresh. We ate the loaf. Went well with my glass of Sauvignon blanc wine. Let me tell you the presentation of the meals are beautiful! my whole snapper was so moist. I was pleasantly surprised at how big this restaurant is. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Looks like they also have a room for large parties or a gathering. Drove and was running late from Orlando to meet my friend for brunch, I was immediately greeted and escorted to our table as soon as I walked in. Service was good and food portion was adequate. Only this is I think they forgot to dress the salad so a quarter way through my meal I had to ask for the dressing. We came for dinner and from the get-go the hostess had attitude and even though there were many empty tables she insisted on seating us upstairs in a dark room despite a handicapped person in our party stating those empty tables were reserved. We had dinner but the empty table that were supposedly reserved never filled up, so I am not sure what her problem was. The restaurant itself appears to be in a historic building and has a view of the lake which is charming if you are able to be seated somewhere that you can actually see it. Our server was friendly and attentive, but the food was not great. We did have an unusual appetizer of fried calamari which was delicious but cut thick in a way I have never seen done before. I was told the fish entree was fresh, but it had a fishy taste, and I took it home for my dogs rather than eat it. On a good note, they offer tableside Bananas Foster for dessert and while it is one of my favorites the dinner ruined my appetite, so we didn't have it. Pieces Rising seems like it might be a good place to sit at the bar to have a drink and an appetizer but there are better places in Mount Dora to have dinner. read more

I recently caught up with a friend in Mt. Dora for brunch. Not being too familiar with the area, he recommended that we eat at Pisces Rising. Parking was a bit of a pain on Saturday afternoon in downtown Mt. Dora, but I found a public parking garage and walked a few blocks to the restaurant. We sat outside and the energy was lovely. Our server was friendly, attentive, and quite charming. We started off with the half point of Cajun shrimp with cocktail sauce. They were AMAZING. We finished them so quickly that we ordered another half-pound. Lol. For my main I did the shrimp and grits with a side of mac and cheese. Before I get to the shrimp and grits, I want to talk about the mac. I generally have high standards for mac and cheese and go to most restaurants with very low expectations. Surprisingly, this mac and cheese was very good. It absolutely tasted homemade and wasn't just noodles in a cheese sauce. It had depth, was cheesy, and the fried shrimp on top were a nice touch. The shrimp and grits were great, well sauced and the shrimp tender and well-seasoned. At this rate I was very full and unable to consider dessert even remotely. The next time I am in Mt. Dora, I will be sure to stop by Pisces for a good meal. read more

It's hard to get into so plan ahead and make reservations especially if it's a holiday, or for a special occasion. The food, whatever you get is spectacular. The service is top notch and my favorite cocktail. here is their Mojito it. As far as ambience, you can't beat it. It overlooks Lake Dora and the marina. they have great entertainment on certain nights as well. The bar.. it gets VERY busy. Two days in a row of letdowns and disappointment from this restaurant and its sister pizza restaurant next door. My long-awaited trip to Mt. Dora, which included a year-long reservation, has been completely overshadowed by these frustrating experiences. At Pisces Rising, the wait for our food to come out was long, which would have been fine if the food itself had delivered. One member of our party had their meal delayed because the kitchen mistakenly served it on bread, despite the request to leave it off. Normally, this wouldn't have been such a big issue, but considering the day before we waited over an hour and a half for overpriced pizza at their sister restaurant, it just added to the frustration. What really upset me, though, was that my meal came out cold. The pork, mashed potatoes, and squash zucchini were all cold, and for $28, that is simply unacceptable. The portion size was also disappointingly small. I understand that part of the pricing reflects the prime location, which I have no issue with--if the food matches the price. But cold food at upscale prices is inexcusable. Dining out is about more than just eating; it's about enjoying a moment suspended in time. When cold food ruins that experience, it's incredibly upsetting. Pisces Rising is charging premium prices while delivering food that doesn't meet even basic expectations. This was not the experience I'd hoped for or expected, and it has tarnished my trip to Mt. Dora. I hope management listens to feedback because, right now, the hype and the cost are far from justified. read more

Drove here from Orlando as open table had plenty of reservations available. Booked for outside. Upon arrival staff was unable to seat me for food anywhere as the kitchen was closing until dinner. No where does it say the kitchen is closed for a few hours mid day, no where! While staff were trying to make suggestions it doesn't make up for the fact we drive 1.5hrs to come here to get nothing. Be professional and update you hours showing you close for a break mid day and ensure that reservations cannot be made online either. This was a huge disappointment read more

Last nite we had resv, we were seated late. We ordered drinks and entrees. After +1hour our food arrived. We were provided bread in between due to the delay. My food was skirt steak which the server said was served rare which I wanted, but was served well done, cold and flavorless, I sent it back. One of the other quests had shrimp and grits and at I point I looked over and he had a long hair hanging from his mouth, needless to say it was sent back and both were removed from bill. The manger did come to table with a lame ass apology. When leaving I told the manager how disappointed I was and he said rudely just sorry. This is a $$$ restaurant and service and food were -$$$. But, foodwise it's well known locally as a sort of hit and miss type of place with the food and service sometimes really good, sometimes not. In short, it's inconsistent. Their menu is nice enough but with nothing unique and really not with all that many selections. I ordered their oysters as a starter but they didn't have any oysters, so I went straight for their "White Anchovy Caesar." But when it was served it came sans anchovy, not one on it or added to the dressing. After mentioning the fact, I got a little bowel of anchovy for me to add and mix. Like this is not the way a good restaurant does it and worse, the anchovies didn't have a good quality of taste. I then went for their entrée of "Herb Marinated Pork" with sides of fried okra and asparagus. The marinated pork was served as an eye-appealing bone-in chop and was really top-notch flavorful; very good. But the fried okra was really for crap, tasting like the frozen then microwaved stuff you might find in Publix. My other half got the "Fresh Catch." Unfortunately, it was overdone, dry, and lacking in both taste and flavor. So, as I say hit and miss. You may have some really good food here or maybe not. Too risky for me, I went to the nearby Goblin Restaurant for my next meal. read more

Fabulous service with fantastic food! We ordered the Cuban spring rolls as an appetizer and it was delicious. We both ordered the golden tile fish that came with wild rice and veggies, again a fantastic dish. For dessert we had peach crème brûlée and unbelievably light and airy dessert. We sat outside and enjoyed the warmth of the sunshine overlooking the lake. Not too noisy and can talk without screaming. Highly recommend. read more
