We attended a rehearsal dinner in the upstairs rooms. The staff took great care of the group with dinner and drinks. The atmosphere was perfect and the food, tasty! I thought this looked good and called to get a take out order for one and the woman who answered the phone discouraged me from placing it because they were too busy and I wouldn't get my food for at least 2 hours. She said they just checked in a party of 60 -- unless I misunderstood her. I've never been turned away from a restaurant before especially when placing a take out order. Their reviews really aren't that good plus they didn't appear to have parking so it's probably for the best. read more

Very disappointed... the service was terrible. He didn't even ask if I wanted a 2nd glass of wine, or water. The burger was so salty, if I wasn't so hungry I would have sent it back. But probably couldn't have tracked the waiter down to do so. We then had to wait forever for the check and almost walked out. Leaving what cash we had in our pockets. Hoping it would be enough. Very nice experience! Table for 6, with family. New server, cannot recall her name, but she provided excellent service. Cuban pork spring rolls were more like pork egg rolls with mustard. Very good. I had the seafood Cobb salad, which was very fresh and great with the exception of the 5 shrimp-these looked like the shrimp you would get on a shrimp ring from the frozen section, and tasted about the same. My wife had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich which was more like a buffalo chicken sandwich. Good food, great service, old Florida atmosphere. BTW, my BIL had the fried okra and it was awesome! This food here was amazing. It was literally the best burger I have ever had. The mushrooms were cooked with garlic which gave them such a good flavor. All of their bread is made in house. The biscuit was fantastic and massive. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a fantastic view of the water. We sat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and gave fantastic recommendations. Incredibly busy day during the 50th Annual Art Fair, but Pisces Rising met the challenge admirably! We were seated in a timely manner & despite the crowd our service was great! Really enjoyed the food. Best smash burger I've ever had! Tasted like it was fresh off of a bbq grill! A friend raved about her shrimp & grits, too. However other friends ordered the crab cakes & found them very small and not worth the high price. That was our only complaint. Definitely recommend this place though!!! read more

The environment is the best part, they have outside and inside tables and anywhere is nice (outside is better because of the lake view) Staff were friendly. Margarita was ok. Yum! This place was a recommendation from a local and it did not disappoint! Another local called it "prices rising" which is also true as it was not cheap but the quality was evident. We started with the blueberry old fashioned and they were super tasty but a shock on the bill at $16 each! Then I went with the Cesar salad that came with white anchovies. This was an awesome salad but heavy on the hearts of romaine and I'm a bigger fan of the leafy lettuce. The anchovies were fresh and delicious! Finally, the main course. You know when you order and the waitress (Shanaya) says good choice, that's my favorite!, You're in for a treat! It was the best shrimp and grits I've ever had! I have been bouncing back and forth from 4 to 5 stars for this review but this dish made it 5 stars hands down. Came on a Monday night place was maybe at 15% occupancy with a table of seven. Older lady, sat us we were kind of crammed and asked for a bigger table or to push a table together and she freaked out and said we can't push tables together! Who's we? It's just me (your customer) and you in an empty restaurant. Spent maybe half of what we would've ordered our meal and left. This is also my 5th time and never coming back or bringing people. If you can't push a table 1 foot away then you don't deserve my business or a five star review An entire iceberg lettuce for a wedge salad is insane. Do half the amount of lettuce and increase the fillet by at least 1 ounce. read more

Stopped by for drinks and lunch on the patio. It took a while to get service to order drinks but they were a little busy. We all (party of 4) decided what we wanted to order but after waiting an additional 30 minutes with absolutely no service, we decided to leave. Had a large family event recently at this Mt.Dora restaurant. Our first event was a rehearsal dinner for 21 quests. The décor and ambiance was wonderful. The staff was very accommodating and attentive. The main entrees included NY Strip steak, Salmon, and Mushroom Ravioli. I personally had the steak but tried the salmon and ravioli. Simply said, I enjoyed all 3 and would be happy to order any of the 3 again.. After the dinner we had a welcome cocktail hour with about 60 in attendance. Great event... Servers again stepped up and our quests were taken care of in a timely and attentive manner. We had several apps for them to enjoy. The crab cakes were my favorite. Next time we are in the area we look forward to lunch or dinner. read more

Took my Father here for Father's Day. We waited over an hour for our food while others who were sat after us were eating already. I ordered the ribeye on focaccia. Meat was room temperature and the bread fell apart. Not a good choice for a sandwich. Instead of fries we ordered the salad which was about 1/2 cup. For $18 I'd expect a bowl of salad. Within the 24hrs of eating my Father and I both had food poisoning. Very disappointed! They may want to get a new chef. read more

Great restaurant to get fresh and delicious seafood in a beautiful part of historic Mount Dora right next to Lake Dora. Even thought it was a very busy Saturday night with multiple events happening around town, our large party was seated in a very timely manner and our service was good. Also, everyone who interacted with us was very friendly. For appetizers we ordered the Caribbean Crab Cakes and the Calamari Fries. The crab cakes were small but very good. They had the perfect breading on the outside and the filling on the inside was delicious. The pineapple salsa and pina colada sauce paired well with the crab cakes. The Calamari fries and pickled cherry peppers were good as well. They had the perfect crispness and I loved dipping them in the sambal aioli. For entrees we got the Fresh Catch which was Halibut and the Crab Stuffed Salmon. I highly recommend trying the Fresh Catch especially if it's halibut. My halibut was cooked perfectly, it was so tender and moist. Also, the red rice mixture it was topped on was absolutely amazing, I would go back again for that meal. The Crab Stuffed Salmon was good but the salmon was a little overcooked. Other than that it had great flavor, the crab meat was good and the asparagus and mashed potatoes were perfect. My kids got their kid's cheeseburger and macaroni and cheese with a side of fries. They all enjoyed their meals so I know it had to be good. I really liked how the menus not only had a good variety for adults but for kids as well. I would definitely go back to try more of their dishes. read more

Loved the service, the food, and the feel of the entire setting! Arrived to meet a friend & she had gotten a table outside. Laid back Saturday vibes. Some people were dressed up and some were coming off the water in swim coverups. There is a bar outside & the drinks looked amazing that were going by. I asked the Server for a Napa Valley Cab Sav recommendation. He brought a Napa sample & Paso Robles. He was polite & knew his red wines. We shared food and everything had amazing flavors. Parking: on the street or public free parking, hard to find on busy days. Service: it's good and personnel is very attentive but the one taking care of us had limited to no knowledge about wines. Food: hit or miss, my husband and I ordered the New York strip medium and it was served well done and very hard to cut and eat. We were on a holiday dinner so we felt embarrassed to let the restaurant know that our steak was not prepared to our specifications. The shrimp Mac and cheese was amazing and we highly recommend it. The banana foster for dessert is amazing and it's prepared in front of your eyes with a fun display of flames. Price: the prices are adequate given the location and ambiance. We were in town for the Arts Festival so I must say the town was overwhelmed with visitors. With that being said this restaurant isn't what I remembered from the past. Most of the table ordered the smash burger. They all came out over cooked and dry. When the manager came to check on our table we were honest and gave him our opinion. His reply was, "yes they really don't look good and they have been very inconsistent", he then brought us our bill with no credit on the burgers. So many mistakes with this conversation. Pisces Rising is the pinnacle of your dining experience in Mount Dora. There's a reason it's tough to get in here, a very good reason. The food, the service, the facility and the view. We were on a brief (wedding) trip to Mount Dora and tried to get reservations but everything was closed, we tried to walk-on to the outdoor dining area but wait was very long, as I said, for good reasons. The manager Joshua helped us out and we got here on a rainy evening, but our experience was a warm and comfortable one. Started with a few cocktails and I highly recommend the Blue Envy, a smoked blueberry old fashioned. My spouse enjoyed the crab stuffed salmon and everything was as perfect as you could ask. I jumped in for the filet mignon, grilled asparagus, and could not resist the fried shrimp mac & cheese, which I also highly recommend. You will not regret it. Have had bad experiences with steaks lately so hesitated but decided it worth the chance, and the gamble paid off. Steak was cooked perfectly and was that melt in your mouth experience. Each bite I took I needed a moment of silence to enjoy, and I am seriously not kidding about that. Wait staff was great, attentive and friendly. Love the environment and can assure you we will return on our next trip, even though we'll think ahead about making early reservations so we don't miss out. If you're in the area and can score reservations (or better yet, the patio with the sunset), do it! read more

Don't skip on the shrimp Mac n cheese! It's my favorite and has been on the menu for years. When visiting Mount Dora I have to stop here. The patio a great spot to enjoy a red sangria. If I could leave a zero for the hostess or front of the house person who answered the phone this afternoon around 3:30-3:45 that would be more than deserved. I called and inquired about a reservation for three people at 5:00 and was told they had nothing but walk in availability. I explained I was not from the area and coming into town to visit family, so asked what the likelihood of being seated as walk-ins at that time based on her experience would be. She couldn't answer that question and rambled on about things that had nothing to do with my very specific question so we did not dine here and would suggest the owners hire a better front of house person to answer simple questions regarding dining here. I heard good reviews but the first impression is the most important and theirs stunk. I can assure our ticket price is $$$ so a miss for this spot. I was pleasantly surprised at how big this restaurant is. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Looks like they also have a room for large parties or a gathering. Drove and was running late from Orlando to meet my friend for brunch, I was immediately greeted and escorted to our table as soon as I walked in. Service was good and food portion was adequate. Only this is I think they forgot to dress the salad so a quarter way through my meal I had to ask for the dressing.
