We've been meaning to try this place out for a while and finally got to try it & apparently the happy hour was all day Friday. It wasn't as great as we heard it to be. It was just okay for us. The most memorable dish was some dish with beef lol. Tom yum beer had no notes of tom yum at all :/ I was so excited to try it. Service was also really slow...
Came during a weekday right before lunch time. Although they were not full, it definitely got busy at peak time. Not able to tell if it was a slow or regular day. So if you want to ensure no wait time, before noon is your best bet. Restaurant has a nice decor, big tables, huge restrooms. Sat comfortably with plenty of space for multiple dishes. Food wise, everything was pretty good! Price is in the mid-low range. Not the cheapest thing you'll find downtown (most dishes start at $21), and by far not the most expensive one. Considering the quality of the food and service? This is a good deal!
Order: Tod Tod Platter: Pork belly, calamari, garlic chicken wings, beef jerky and tom yum fries. jerky, pork belly and the fries were the highlight of the dish. individuals in my party liked the calamari. jerky was sweet, just a little bit smoky with a chewy texture. pork belly was more fried than roasted? but the skin was not crunchy. for both of these, it can be tough meats. Fries were tangy than spicy, from lemongrass or lime. Lao Royal: Tilapia, duck curry, papaya salad, Lao sausage, beef jerky, wings, vermicelli, sticky rice, leafy greens and herbs. the individuals in my party loved the tilapia, lots of meat, tender and not dry. duck curry was more soupy, pieces of duck were soggy lacking flavor. sausage had a yellow appearance of a curry that was not expected. Enjoyed the sticky rice and had to order another one. Happy hour is from 5:00-7:00 on Monday-Saturday, and all day on Friday. Drinks, appetizers, and oysters are part of the deal. Menu can be overwhelming so there are 2 preset entree options at the top including 1 appetizer combo. Server provided recommendations for the food. Elegant dining experience with colorful lamps, big area for patrons with lots of tables and so bar seating with TVs. good place for a casual hangout.
This place was recommended to us by a kind person at SF Moma. We wanted to eat non Indian vegetarian food. Their menu had many options listed as vegetarian. The service was prompt and friendly. The decor was beautiful. The food was hot and delicious. The servings were pretty big. We had the eggplant and spicy basil tofu. Both came with rice. Yummy food.
Went to try this place for Happy Hour but they unfortunately didn't have any oysters that day. We ended ordering full priced entrees that were absolutely amazing! I loved the duck curry and I've never had a clear curry before so that was a great experience. We were able to get vegetarian spring rolls. I liked how the wrapper was so soft and the addition of the avocado. The Tom Yum beer was also a great experience. My only issue was the lack of understanding for guests with dietary restrictions. We were looking for items low in sodium and oil because of a heart condition but the server simply said everything is premade. She didn't work with us to find a solution or offer any recommendations to help us order. Super pretty place with great food but just be wary for those with restrictions.
I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I have such good memories of this place, but they didn't live up to my expectations this time around. I came to this restaurant 6 months ago, and had such a blast. Great portions, such beautiful interior and great energy all around. It left me wanted more. I couldn't wait until my next visit. Fast forward to the other day, I'm raving about this place to my friends saying we have to go there for lunch. No parking, it's near downtown. But It's right off Montgomery bart, a few blocks. It's a large restaurant, very accommodating for big parties. There were multiple parties with 8+ people. It was quite crowded, but they had us seated in 10 minutes. Now this is where my gripes begin to take place. First off, happy hour. Happy hour is from 5-7. I ask my waiter at 6:58ish about ordering for happy hour. She tells me 1 second. She literally waits in place. Then when the clock strikes 7 she comes back to my table to inform me that happy hour is over. I understand it ends at 7, but it was literally 7 on the dot, she could've made the exception and not been so punctual. If she would've come when I asked her, I wouldn't need these accommodations. It's like she was waiting for the clock to strike 7 just to tell me I couldn't get anything off the happy hour menu. Also my waiter had a little bit of attitude. Next, the portions and the prices. This place is a great example of how shrinkflation has impacted our restaurants. Now you might think there is nothing wrong with the portions pictured, which I understand if it's your first time coming here. But it wasn't mine. One of the big reasons I was pushing for us to come here was the portions I had 6 months ago. I initially came because I had this chicken dish called the Gai Tod. The portions were unbelievable. It could feed at least 3 people. I want to emphasize, this place isn't cheap. Most entrees are nearing 30 dollars. I highlighted to my friends, that the prices didn't matter because the portions were so big, that it was totally worth the cost. You could imagine my immediate disappointment when I received my plate. When I came here 6 months ago, the Gai Tod was 3x this size. At the absolute least maybe twice the size. 4-6 pieces of chicken and much more rice than you see on my plate. Now I all I receive is 2 pieces of chicken and sticky rice the size of a medium size egg. I could play hot potato with that thing. Mind you all the prices remain the same as they were 6 months ago. If the dish was leaning towards lower to mid 20s I'd allow it. But $28? Nah. Which was the price of all of our dishes. ALSO. THE DRINKS. I have a picture of a drink I got 6 months ago. I'll let the picture speak for itself. They might look bigger than they actually are but even so on top of that they were filled to the brim with ice.Now for the finale, my friends dish. I asked my friend if he would ever come back, he said no. I asked why, and it was because of his meal. He told me his dish, the noodle dish pictured was not worth it to say the least. The broth was ok, but the noodles were overcooked. With the noodles being 3/4s of his meal, I don't know what to tell you. Furthermore they gave him 3 meatballs for that big meal and the rest of the meat was quite lean, not what he was looking for. On a positive note, he said he liked his drink ( the pink drink.) My other friend enjoyed her pork chop rice plate. To be frank, my food tasted great. But I don't think it's worth repurchasing. I think this place is a dependable option for delicious overpriced food in a beautiful interior. The lights are gorgeous and even the bathroom is beautiful. But I don't know if I'll be returning.
Ive been here twice and I want to love this place! But not everything on the menu is a hit They have a great happy hour menu if u can make it in time, and I recommend going the family-style option because some dishes are very small. Highlights: - spicy crispy rice appetizer: this was a hit! it is VERY spicy though as someone who can tolerate alot! But its a great sharing size for a group of 2-4 people - the fried fish is crispy and delicious with a great sauce. But there is not that much meat on the fish itself - the tom yum is a bit watery and does not have a strong flavor, but it comes out on an open flame and is very shareable - the curry rice portion is super super small for the amount of curry that is provided. We had to get an extra rice. The curry is not super spicy and did not have as much depth of flavor Overall, I would come again but just for the crispy rice appetizer!
This place absolutely exceeded my expectations. The place is primarily Vietnamese but you would find Thai flavours. Such a wide variety of items in here - and everything is finger licking good. I absolutely had a feast here. I got Chicken Friend rice and it was good - not the best but above average. For the table fish platter was also exquisite. I can't recall which fish was that but it was really great..it also came up with so.many other item such as chicken wings. The seafood sizzling tom yum probably tasted the best. Thoughly enjoyed it. The Belgian beer they server was one of the best. In isolation probably every food I tried, I can find a better and slightly tastier version but a single place delivering and maintaining above average food quality over such a wide spectrum is rare. The ambience and environment was great. The place became super noisy later in the evening but it was so much fun dining out here.
Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Portion to Price: 3/5 Overall: A good option in fidi/downtown. The extended review... Food: Khao Nar Ped - 3/5 - A good healthy portion of duck over rice. Taste was standard fare. Service: 3/5 - Friendly staff. Ambiance: 4/5 - A well decorated setting with ample seating. Portion to Price: 3/5 - Pretty standard fare.
LOVE this place!! It's honestly so rare to find Lao food that feels this high-quality and truly authentic. Everything we tried was packed with flavor. Their happy hour platter deal is such a steal, it comes with oysters, sausage, chicken wings, and calamari, and the cocktails are only $7 (beers even cheaper). Amazing value for how good the food is. The vibe is always lively, and the staff are consistently warm and friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. Pro tip: go with a group so you can try more of the menu. I also love that many dishes come with fresh leafy greens so you can wrap everything - it adds the perfect fresh crunch and makes the meal even more fun and delicious. Definitely one of my go-to spots for great food and good vibes! My favorite dishes are the platter, fried rice, crispy spring rolls with leafy greens, papaya salad, and so much more :)
I came with a friend on a weekend night on the later side and there were not many people inside. It's a nice environment right in FiDi, and the plates are beautifully decorated for sure -- but I unfortunately didn't really love the food, We got a coconut curry which had good flavor but the meat inside was a bit too sinewy and also it was small portion size-- we kind of finished it in a few bites. As you can see, the leaves take up half the plate. We also got a bamboo salad and was excited to try it but I honestly couldn't eat much of it, was actually very spicy and also the raw vegetables on the side wasn't the most appealing. I assume some other things on the menu are better but definitely wasn't our day. My friend and I both agreed that the service was friendly but the food was so-so and overpriced for the sizes
We came here on Friday night for dinner. We had a reservation, so we were seated pretty quickly. Service-wise, our server was very friendly and our food came out pretty quickly. The ambiance was lively and loved the decor. We ordered: - "Tang-Mo" Watermelon Peanut Salad - I was initially skeptical about the combination, but I ended up really liking this! The juiciness and slight sweetness of the watermelon, really played will with the sightly sour and flavorful sauce, which made it taste very good! - Garlic Wings - It was pretty good, crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside and flavor was good, but nothing too out of this world. - Khaw Kai Noodles - The noodles were delicious and after adding the sauce, it really set off the taste very well. The chicken was also delicious and flavorful. - Spicy Thai Basil Chicken - Flavor-wise, this was delicious, but when we got it, the dish was not very warm or very spicy, which was a bummer. Overall, we had a great time and will be back in the future to try more items from the menu!
We came for lunch midday on a Friday and were sat instantly! The space inside is huge and the ceilings are so tall, it was the perfect place for a nicer lunch to catch up with coworkers. I was a little worried based on other reviews that the portions would be small for the price, but I was pleasantly surprised when our dishes came and the portions were MASSIVE! The rice dishes came with 2+ cups of rice and my Pad Mee Lao Prawns was enough for 2.5 meals. Flavor was great as well - nothing mind blowing but I was definitely happy with what I got. And on Fridays, they have happy hour all day. We didn't get anything off of the happy hour menu, but I would definitely try coming for happy hour next time.

I really loved this place. It's just amazing to see our fellow Asians bring such a beautiful restaurant to life. The food was spectacular. The presentation and environment was 10/10. We went in a group of 8 and booked reservations through Yelp. They check vaccinations hard, the only thing missing was checking my fingerprint LOL. My party thought the pricing was a bit high but I can imagine how high the monthly rent in such a beautiful spot is. People have to be realistic and see that the restaurant is housed in a strip of shopping and stores so they've got to recoup costs somehow. I've never seen anything like it. We started with the happy hour appetizer sampler and that was a good start. Their chicken wings were crispy, calamari was tender and Lao sausages were jam packed with flavor. We ordered spring rolls which would've been better with a dip made of peanuts in my opinion but they rolled it in actual rice noodle so that was different. We ordered a noodle dish and fried rice dish and both were sooo flavorful. We also ordered the fish platter and again, I would've love some home made fish sauce but it was the sweet dipping sauces. The papaya salad is very good. And be warned that Laos hot is superrrrr Spicy. We did medium and that was spicy. We did the tom yum with chicken and mushrooms and that was also a favorite. The mango kart desert was so good. Lighter in flavor on the shaved ice. What a beautiful experience! read more

Sparkling wine - Pretty good Apetizer- Koi tuna- good Laotian fried rice with egg and fried chicken - Great Noodle and Crab curry- Thought it was way overpriced for the amount of noodle and crab. Have as little veggies as possible in this as customer wants crabs and not veggies ! Ambience- Great! read more

Excellent. I agree with a previous reviewer: Lao Table is an upgrade from Osha Thai. I came here on a Saturday night with a group of three. We ordered: 1. Lao sausage: Good. But I might opt to try the calamari appetizer next time instead. 2. ***Kobe beef: Well worth the price. I'm always hesitant to order steak because it's so easy to cook at home, but I'm glad I took the waiter's recommendation. Will definitely order this again. 3. Lao Fried Rice. Delicious. Warning: a little spicy. I would order this dish again, too. 4. Pho duck. Noodles were decent. I would opt to try the garlic pepper pork next time. Bonus points for expanding napkins. All in all, I will definitely return to Lao Table read more

First time I've been back since it changed from Osha Thai to Lao Table, and happy to say I still love this place just as much! Seven of us came here for a work dinner and not only were the staff quick to seat us and take our orders, but the food came out very quickly. We all shared the chicken Satay skewers and the veggie spring rolls and they were really delicious. For mains people mostly got the curries - I got the prawn curry, which came with a side of steamed rice and was presented so nicely it felt like it would have been rude NOT to take a picture to share... The flavours were mouth watering, and the spice level was a little kick without setting me on fire. I'm not normally one for sweet things in my savory food (pineapple on pizza is a huge no for me), but the pineapple and whole lychees in the curry actually made it! The portion sizes are generous, the ambience is fancy but not awkwardly so, and now they have redone the place there is a LOT more seating. Sure, a little more expensive than it used to be but a lovely place to go out for a treat or on a date night. I know I'll definitely be back read more

Amazing Thai food with a Laotion twist! Came here on a Saturday night with two friends after making a reservation through Yelp. The atmosphere is very hip and modern, and the place was pretty packed. We started off with Thai iced tea and ordered larb zeen beef lettuce wrap, me ka ti, pad pha beef, and lao fried rice. The prices seemed a bit high, but it was so much food we couldn't even finish! The lettuce wrap was incredible and such a large portion for an appetizer! The ground beef was perfectly spiced and you have a plethora of herbs and veggies to wrap the meat in. The me ka ti was also a winner. It comes out with all the ingredients separated. The server then pours and mixes the chicken curry onto the noodles and mixes it in front of you. Pad pha beef was good but tasted pretty standard. It's hanger steak cubes wok-fried with veggies and oyster sauce. The lao fried rice had a nice spicy kick to it! It also came with fried chicken wings, which were good but nothing really special. Overall, this was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the area! read more

This place was amazing!! Let's start with the soup Tom Zaab Loa Beef... hands down best soup I've had a restaurant, it was spicy, flavorful, and full of beef! Done to perfect! Anytime I'm in town I must have this soup. Hail the soup gods for this concoction! Then there was the Lamb chop, perfectly medium, lots of flavor. Even the rice was a nice simple flavor. Next drinks, this is highly relative but I wish they had more alcohol but the were nice compliments to the meal. Lastly, I loved the ambience of this place, good customer service, laidback but lively, the lightly is perfect for a date or groups of friends. I can get loud but I enjoyed every bit of it. read more

Food is amazing and presentation is on point! Started with grilled octopus that's oddly Delish in a spicy healthy way (heft portion). Salmon dish was perfect for my kid (all dishes are super big portions FYI). Kobe beef grill was stupid good--like butter with that sauce. The "Alaskan crab" noodle dish was so good (needs more crab--tons of veggies if you wanna justify it and feel healthy haha). Oh, don't forget to get the Spicy Eggplant with chicken (OMG--very Thai inspired and bomb!) Chocolate soufflé with Thai tea ice cream was the perfect way to end the evening. Good housey lounge music, clean bathrooms, servers come around every few minutes to check . Overall 10/10 read more

Extra crowded for lunch!! I got there 10 minutes early and got seated. They put us at a table with another couple which was odd. I was there to catch up with a friend and it was odd being so close to our neighbors. The food was great, but not life changing. We shared pad Thai & lamb curry. I thought $8 for iced coffee was a lot, until they brought out a little carafe of it. That was fabulous. read more

Decor: Pleasant balance of modern and traditional decor in dining and bar area, and space has an open and communal feeling. Loved the purple hued lamps hanging all the way down the center of the dining room. Appetizers: FRESH SPRING ROLLS (Fresh rice paper wrapper + pork sausage + Vietnamese mint + Laotian peanut dip) and LAO SAUSAGE (Laotian style pork sausage served with fresh ginger + toasted peanut). There were three of us sharing and this was enough for all three. Both of these apps were very good, but the Lao sausage was everyone's favorite. Entrees: Again, there were three of us sharing these three dishes and we were not able to finish as the serving sizes are generous. MOK SEABASS (Chilean sea bass W/ red curry custard + banana blossom + holy basil + jasmine rice) and "LARB ZEEN" BEEF LETTUCE WRAP (Spicy flank beef lettuce wrap + toasted ground rice + soft herbs) and TOTALLY PRAWNS (Coconut milk red curry + fresh tiger prawns + pineapple + lychee W/ toasted peanut). All three of these entrées were very tasty, but the prawns were everyone's favorite. The Seabass had some deep, dark flavors, which were unexpected but very good. The beef lettuce wrap had a lighter flavor than we expected, but also very good. The prawns had savory, sweet, salty and umami flavors all going on in a beautiful balance, plus it was the most visually pleasing of the three dishes. Service was also very good. The servers were soft-spoken but attentive, and happy to assist us with ordering by making recommendations for popular and/or traditional dishes. read more

We ordered the beef Saland, it was too Salty and the meat was so dry. We payed about $26 for a bowl of beef pho. Meat was dry, the soup was not hot. It is over price and not worth it. This place was not busy.Everyone was busy dressed up the tables but no one help take our empty dishes away. We had waited for a long time to get our food. Pricey, but good food. I think they should rewrite the description for relishes, as my friends were hesitant to order as they thought it was more akin to American small relishes than say chutney. If you don't know Lao food it's a littler harder to imagine what it looks like. The price point is high, I understand for it location and it is SF but this makes it a bit harder sell to get people try as a casual option. Very upscale versions of Lao dishes. Loved the desserts the most. read more

Came here with a large group (9 people) and a reservation. Our table wasn't ready and we ended up awkwardly standing at the door for over 20 minutes. Once seated though, things looked up. The water glasses and plates are so beautiful! The dining room was definitely loud but conversations were manageable. Here's what we ordered: - Garden Fish: tasty. fish was good and it came with beef and chicken skewers, chicken wings, jerky, and a few other items. pretty picture but not worth $70. Wouldn't order again - Pad Pha Beef: delicious! definitely super spicy. great quality beef and full of flavor - Red Curry Chicken: not good. My first bite of chicken was tough and leathery and I had to spit it out into a napkin (tmi? sorry). Pretty sure it was undercooked. The dish itself is not normal red curry -- more like pieces of leathery chicken resting atop a small puddle of curry. skip. - Garlic Pepper Pork: hands down the BEST item of the night. Pork quality was delicious, and it was sweet but a little spicy. topped with a fried egg and served with rice -- definitely order this!! - Mok Seabass: pretty good; tons of lemongrass flavor and I loved the presentation. However, I'm not fully convinced this was chilean sea bass...it tasted like normal sea bass. Was a decent portion though - Coconut Ice Cream: Delicious. Coconut ice cream served in a young coconut with warm sticky rice on the side (the red beans in the rice were a little weird, but I avoided them) Service was slow at times but when our waiter did come around he was attentive and friendly. Would definitely go back! Perhaps on a less busy night read more

Is the menu for lunch and dinner the same, or does lunch have a smaller offering?
How busy on weekdays?
I went on a weekday and the place was not busy. If you have a large party I would recommend calling to make a reservation.
Is it easy to find parking?
There's a parking garage across the street in an alley.
Does Lao Table have Keto friendly options?
Absolutely! They have many meat/poultry dishes (over veggies, for example).
Is kids friendly?
There are no particular efforts from the restaurants to entertain kids. Most of the diners are adults. The food has a kick, which might be a little bit too spicy for kids.
How bad is the wait time for lunch on weekends?
If you make a reservation you are all set and it isn't hard to make one even the day before. Great restaurant!
Do they still have the $1.00 oyster happy hour?
Yes! Every Monday to Friday 16:30 to 19:00.
