Chill spot in the east cut for a casual meal. The portions here are fairly sized (maybe a little on the small side?). I've tried a few of the dishes ranging from the pineapple fried rice to the pad mee Lao which were all more or less what you would expect. It's nice that the restaurant is a bit larger so it's not super pressed to get a reservation here. Good for larger parties especially and work-related events. read more

After finishing the morning session of liver meeting, I felt really hungry. I was lazy to had breakfast today. I was planning for a brunch . I found this restaurant close to Moscone Convention Center within walking distance. It was almost full during the lunch time. So, without delay, I just sat on the bar area. The service was fast. The restaurant looks Clean and contemporary decorated . It has Relatively large menu to choose from. The bartender was very nice and friendly. I started with Koi Tuna. The presentation in a scale of 5 was 5, but the taste was 2. It tasted stale and flavorless. But I liked the Zeen Ping , beef cubes in the stick like Satay. The sauce was not enough spicy for me, so I added Sriracha . I was not too excited about Mom Sea-bass till I tasted it. It was spicy, good enough for me. But the smell was not fresh. I was thinking of trying the dessert, but did not have enough time. Love to see fresh tuna with flavor and fresh smelling sea-bass in future. The price is $$-$$$. Parking on street. Please make prior reservation if you come with a group. It was ok , I am not intrigued . read more

I am glad I chose this place. Just deducted one star because the place was way too loud! But the food was delicious. The servers were careful with the vegan restrictions. Would come back again read more

Came here for dinner before hitting up Hawthorne. Didn't even realize this is just the old Osha aka where I had my first real adult date back in 2008. I preferred the Osha. The ambiance is beautiful and the food is the same as Osha. I had the pineapple millionaire drink which was pretty good. Portions are big but the price is absurdly expensive for what it is. The worst thing about this place is my charged my friend per soda at like $6/Coke and it was literally all ice. read more

Hands down date night food. I went with a friend and whilst enjoyable, we aren't rich enough to just keep having meals at these places just yet. That said, very nice service (they mix your food in front of you for certain dishes), good portions, tasty and well spiced. read more

LaoTable - Some spot on noodle dish, forgot the name but I'm sure servers can tell you if you showed them this picture. - Laotian Near Me - San Francisco, California

We came to Lao table for the happy hour oysters as advertised on the website. When we told our server we wanted oysters she pushed us to order more food. She was very clearly unhappy with us. They only let you order 6 at a time. We ended up ordering more food anyway but the service throughout the night was mediocre. I had to ask for water multiple times. We were rushed to leave at the end. I thought she had asked us if we wanted more water but instead she said "we need the table. But take your time" and never brought any water. I hate this server! She did not deserve any tip but of course we still tipped the full amount on an already overpriced meal. Food wise, it's very mediocre for high prices, presented very instagrammable but tastes average. I won't be back and won't recommend it to others. There are many great happy hour or asian food options in the area, this restaurant seems like a faux-asian restaurant for tourists. For a great happy hour with $1 oysters, try bar Agricole. read more

First time visiting Lao Table (for lunch) and I was very impressed. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the way the food is plated is very beautiful. I got the vegetarian Khaw Kai noodle bowl which came with tofu and vegetables as well as egg so if you are vegan, ask for no egg. The dish was flavorful and had a good consistency through out. It also came with a spicy sauce which you can use to either dip the noodles or to pour over the dish. I don't eat meat but my co-workers got the ginger chicken and the duck garb which both looked delicious and were plater very beautifully as well. Definitely would recommend checking out this spot for lunch or dinner. Also, apparently they have good happy hour offerings that look worth checking out as well. read more

We've basically been here several times and this review is extremely delayed. We've ordered a variety of funky things (because one of us gets homesick for these foods) so you're not going to see this review for their fried rice, sautéed veggies, or pho but here we go... Service along with papaya salad is hit or miss. Service is very friendly and accommodating but it sometimes gets understandably busy so we have to flag them down at times. Go for the tum mak hoong/papaya salad - it'll be what you see at most Thai places. Super mild with great flavors and a great intro for most. If you want to veer off the norm or if you like things super spicy, then ask for the Lao style salad. We warned you about the spiciness though (you can also ask for less spicy)! We also ask for less sugar and they're extremely accommodating. Thumbs up for being so gracious about our particular order - it can be a pain sometimes so it's much appreciated. Sup nor mai was not as flavorful and was much more sour than expected. Don't order unless you really like bamboo and fish notes obviously. Khao poon was okay but not enough curry soup like traditionally prepared (maybe should've ordered me ka ti instead?) so it was more like a mee lard nah (drunken noodles with gravy) instead of khao poon. Mok seabass is something you should definitely try. It's a delicious banana leaf wrapped fish with herbs and they do it well here. It's light and aromatic; similar to how many other cultures wrap stuff in banana leaves and the French prepare poisson en papillote. Get the crispy sticky rice salad. Just get it. It's good stuff and a usual crowd pleaser. Gai yaang ka min is perfectly spiced and typically good. The chicken pieces were sometimes too fatty or undercooked during our later visits but still alright. The moo nam pla was okay. Standard pork belly but get it with Lao Lao and jeow bong for a well rounded meal. Very cool to see more Lao/Thai Isaan places in the city and to see their take on these classic dishes in addition to having khao neow on the menu. I still think if you're looking for authentic Lao food, head to sac, Stockton or Oakland. Great fusion and intro to Lao cuisine for the SF population. The new interior is beautiful and the service is super friendly. Great for big groups or date nights. Only been here for dinners and will probably come back...because one of us got the other hooked on the Lao style papaya salad :) read more

I've been here many times for work and it is great. Be careful if you order the spring rolls and try to eat it per their recommendation - you will get sauce all over yourself. I do wish that they had vegetarian options for more of their menu. But there are always enough veggie options to satisfy me so it's not a huge deal. Just a lot of the other dishes look good and I wish I cold order them in a vegetarian version. read more

Lao Table is super busy, almost chaotic when we had lunch at around 11:45 on a Thursday. There were 20+ people waiting to be seated, so reservation is highly recommended. My highlight is the garlic pork rice dish with a fried egg on top. Yummy! Service could be slow at times as it was really busy but great flavors and nice ambience. Some dishes are more authentic while some are more Americanized, something for everyone's palate. read more

I've been to Lao table a few times now. Have tried a variety of items and this time I decided to try Pineapple fried rice. I didn't even know that's a thing. I was pretty sure it will either be too good or too bad and it turned out to be the later. I knew it was a risk I was taking but worth a shot. However, I also believe this place has become way more louder than before to an extent that it gets annoying. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for a party of 5 or more only because you cannot really talk internally. However A+ for the ambiance and pretty satisfying service. Might visit again but far from being one of my favorite restaurants. read more

This place is delicious, a must try! It's relatively new, definitely an upgrade from Osha. Lao food with a modern twist! This earned a spot in both my lunch and dinner rotation since it's near my office and it's ridiculously good especially for the price. They also have dope towelettes and tea, both are magical AF. Sea bass: 5/5 Kobe beef: 5/5 Papaya salad: 4/5 Red Curry: 5/5 Grilled calamari: 3/5 Butterfly tea: 5/5 SO COOL I recommend the Kobe and Sea bass for sure. The amount of top quality and flavorful meat and fish you get for the price is amazing and actually filled up the bottomless pit that is my stomach. Service was excellent as well! No one judged me for being annoying and taking pics/vids. COME HERE NOW read more

I was a bit hesitant about trying this place since it had fairly mediocre reviews, but I'm glad that I tried this out - it was great! We had a few different items from their menu and everything was unique and tasted very good: Crispy Sticky Rice Salad Khaw Kai Noodles Gang Beef The sticky rice salad was definitely a unique dish with a ton of flavor, especially from the fish sauce. Eating it wrapped in the accompanying lettuce and other vegetables, it really became a balanced dish. The noodles were excellent with a ton of flavor and really left me satisfied. The beef was also well seasoned and cooked to a perfect tenderness. This place opened/re-opened not too long ago and when I was there it felt like they were still trying to figure a few things out since the service was a bit slow at first, but eventually improved. If you're looking for unique food, try this place! read more

Expensive for the value and what it is (overpriced Asian food with somewhat attractive Asian female staff) and the waitresses are pushy with the bill and turning over the tables. On the other hand, the food is not bad if you like $18 noodles (only in sf sigh). We ordered the pork but ended up with the pad Thai instead without any apologies. I will not be back. Two stars for location and the $13 mango sticky rice and shave ice. read more

I am so glad I finally got to check out this place with one of my good friends visiting from Canada. It's a nice swanky place and conveniently located near financial district. On a normal basis, I wouldn't be coming here every day, because it will just sink a hole in my pocket. Other than that, they have an eclectic menu, which had some of them included German sausage? Spiciness note: You need to tell them to go down on the spiciness scale if you can't take the heat. We ordered the Lao Papaya Salad in mild heat and it was still spicy. My German friend and I had to drink a few glasses of cold water with rice to make ourselves stop crying. At least it was good we thought. read more

LaoTable - Pha beef: Steak, pineapple, peppercorn, and peppers. Delicious. - Laotian Near Me - San Francisco, California

Lao table is hands down one of my favorite work-lunch spots in SOMA. I'm not talking one of those "let's go grab something and bring it back" spots. I'm talking a team outing on a corporate dime spot. It's seriously so so so so so good. I've had the basil chicken, larb, om curry, spring rolls, and nothing has disappointed. I would recommend the om curry because it is so unique. It's salty, spicy, and dill-y. There's nothing wrong with that! The decor is a little strange but a cool effect and the staff is friendly although it can seem like they're rushing you at times. It's not a 5 for me because it runs a little expensive for what it is. Also, if you make a reservation for 3 people, they'll sometimes cram you at a table for 2 and pull up a chair which is definitely not ideal (especially when you see the size of the dishes they use to serve things like the spring rolls). It makes for an intimate and crowded lunch. read more

I've ordered from here twice and it's exceeded my expectations both times. Food is delicious, portions are generous, and everything was packaged nicely. I got the basil chicken and Lao fried rice and both dishes were packed with flavor, highly recommend! Now that Lao Table is open, I don't have to drive across the bay to enjoy great Lao food. I recommend ordering several dishes and share with everyone as opposed to each person getting their own entree, that way you can try so many different things! My FAVORITE so far is the papaya salad (Lao style), served with sides of pork meat loaf, shrimps, hard boiled eggs, pork rinds, vermicelli noodles and fresh seasonal vegetables (just like how it is served in Laos). It is a meal if it's own and very satisfying. Also, tried their miang pla (make your own fish wrap), and heavenly beef (beef jerky) which did not disappoint. Wait/Ambiance: They always have Yelp reservations available, even day of, so I would recommend making a reservation. You could also just walk in -- they usually have tables available (you may have to wait 15-20 minutes). Ambiance is really nice with lots of colorful lamps, flowers, and lights. The restaurant is also conveniently located next to Montgomery Bart on 2nd Street. Food: - I've only tried the garlic pepper pork and the minced chicken basil bowls here, both of which are delicious. I love that the bowls are a decent portion with a fried egg on top. However, the dishes seem a little overpriced to me (~$23 per bowl after tip and tax), but the portions are slightly enough for 2 meals if you're not ravenous. Overall: - Service all 3 times I've been here has been slow, and food can take a while to come out - Flavorful food, but a little pricey read more

I ordered: * Moo Nam Pla (pork belly) - This is way better than I was expecting because usually pork belly is too fatty for me, but the crispiness of the pork belly made it seem less fatty. * Pad Moo Pa - This is really good too, but I wished they gave more rice for the amount of meat they give. I don't normally write reviews but after an amazing dinner here last night, I felt I had to write a review about this wonderful restaurant. I'll have to admit I was a little skeptical about dining here, thinking it's just another fancy Asian restaurant that's catered to American tastebuds. Well, I was wrong, fortunately. My husband and I are both from the SE Asia region and we were blown away by the flavors in the dishes we ordered. The Lao style papaya salad (Tum Marg Hoong) was AMAZING! So glad the server recommended that over the usual Thai style papaya salad. Pad mee Lao was delicious too, just the perfect texture and not too sweet. Tom-zaap beef soup, the Laotian version of tom yum soup had tender beef slices with lots of herbal aromatics and spices. Have that with a bowl of rice and you won't be disappointed! The vegetable crispy rolls are perfect for vegetarians. If you're not familiar with Laotian food, please ask the server how to eat some of the dishes as they're presented beautifully with lots of herbs and greens that you're suppose to wrap the food in, like the crispy rolls and the salad. Lastly, the servers here were wonderful and service was top notch. This is one SF restaurant that I will definitely come back to next time I'm in town! read more

The attendants are adorable and nice, they help us with literally everything and with a pretty smile on their faces. The food tastes great and the prices are not so high as most of the downtown restaurants. 1 word: Delicious! Appetizer: Moo Nam Pla (the fried pork belly) My order: Gai Yaan Ka-Min (chicken with turmeric and sticky rice) Hubby's order: Spicy Steak Lao (Super jelly of Hubby's order) Although to me it seems a bit overpriced when I could just make the food at home myself, but I had to remind myself that we came here for the ambiance which has a very romantic feel to it (we came for our anniversary). First and foremost, the food at Lao Table is really good. Thai/Lao food is probably one of my favorite cuisines and I haven't ordered one bad thing here yet. My favorites are the chicken wings and the pad noodles with prawns - seriously, I can jam on that all day! With that being said, the prices here are pretty damn expensive, especially for Thai food. I can respect the fact that it's in the SOMA/Transbay area, but some of the food is priced a little ridiculous (especially for lunch). My last bit of critique is the service. The food comes at a good time, however signaling a server for the bill, or any other request after you get your food is like pulling teeth. That department could use a bit of improvement. Overall, regardless of the price and sometimes sketchy customer service, the food is good enough for me to keep eating there lol. I can take an L for good food haha. read more

Came here with a large group for a friend's birthday with a 7 pm reservation. Even with the reservation, we had to wait about 30 more minutes around the bar area. Despite this, I still think this place was an enjoyable experience. I loved the decor and table set up and the presentation of each dish is delightful. I got the pad mee lao vegetarian and it was nice and flavorful, pretty much pad thai noodles with drunken noodles flavoring. I really liked that they explicitly wrote out on the menu what dishes could be made vegetarian, super helpful!! Since we were here for a birthday, we got the chocolate lava cake, and everything from the arrival of it to the presentation and taste was great. Definitely, make space for dessert when you come here! read more

Came here with 5 co-workers for someone's birthday dinner. We ordered 7 dishes and ate everything family style. The food was delicious. Had a few different types of lettuce wraps, red curry, duck, beef, and coconut ice cream (as a birthday treat that we requested from the waiter). We also ordered the Thai ice tea and chrysanthemum tea, both of which were very sweet. The chrysanthemum tea almost tasted like sugar water, which was disappointing. I probably wouldn't recommend either of the drinks. I also wouldn't recommend eating family style for a group as large as ours because some of the dishes can be difficult to serve to many people. Some of us only had 1-2 small bites of certain items. As a whole, the food was spiced well and 1-2 of the dishes were on the hot/spicy side. Regarding service, the food came out very quickly and the servers were friendly and accommodating, especially for one of us with a shellfish allergy, which can be more difficult to navigate at Asian restaurants. The decor is upscale and hip. We made a reservation on Yelp for 6:15 on a Tuesday and had no problems being seated right away. It wasn't very crowded but definitely started to fill up by 7pm. I would not mind coming here again though I don't have particularly strong feelings for or against the place. read more

Music wayyy too loud. Server can't even hear what I say. And they look like they don't care about anything. But the foods are pretty good.

Came here again, my favorite on the 2nd Street. I tried something new: - the spring roll is very unique, different from the Chinese and Vietnamese versions. The sauce is yummy. - the beef with egg plants is tasty. The egg plants soak the juice of the beef and sauce - mango desserts is irresistible. The sticky rice makes the mango ice interesting with a good taste and a chewy mouth feel. it has generous portion good for 2-3 people. I can only get the mango desserts like this here. read more
