We've been meaning to try this place out for a while and finally got to try it & apparently the happy hour was all day Friday. It wasn't as great as we heard it to be. It was just okay for us. The most memorable dish was some dish with beef lol. Tom yum beer had no notes of tom yum at all :/ I was so excited to try it. Service was also really slow...
Came during a weekday right before lunch time. Although they were not full, it definitely got busy at peak time. Not able to tell if it was a slow or regular day. So if you want to ensure no wait time, before noon is your best bet. Restaurant has a nice decor, big tables, huge restrooms. Sat comfortably with plenty of space for multiple dishes. Food wise, everything was pretty good! Price is in the mid-low range. Not the cheapest thing you'll find downtown (most dishes start at $21), and by far not the most expensive one. Considering the quality of the food and service? This is a good deal!
Order: Tod Tod Platter: Pork belly, calamari, garlic chicken wings, beef jerky and tom yum fries. jerky, pork belly and the fries were the highlight of the dish. individuals in my party liked the calamari. jerky was sweet, just a little bit smoky with a chewy texture. pork belly was more fried than roasted? but the skin was not crunchy. for both of these, it can be tough meats. Fries were tangy than spicy, from lemongrass or lime. Lao Royal: Tilapia, duck curry, papaya salad, Lao sausage, beef jerky, wings, vermicelli, sticky rice, leafy greens and herbs. the individuals in my party loved the tilapia, lots of meat, tender and not dry. duck curry was more soupy, pieces of duck were soggy lacking flavor. sausage had a yellow appearance of a curry that was not expected. Enjoyed the sticky rice and had to order another one. Happy hour is from 5:00-7:00 on Monday-Saturday, and all day on Friday. Drinks, appetizers, and oysters are part of the deal. Menu can be overwhelming so there are 2 preset entree options at the top including 1 appetizer combo. Server provided recommendations for the food. Elegant dining experience with colorful lamps, big area for patrons with lots of tables and so bar seating with TVs. good place for a casual hangout.
This place was recommended to us by a kind person at SF Moma. We wanted to eat non Indian vegetarian food. Their menu had many options listed as vegetarian. The service was prompt and friendly. The decor was beautiful. The food was hot and delicious. The servings were pretty big. We had the eggplant and spicy basil tofu. Both came with rice. Yummy food.
Went to try this place for Happy Hour but they unfortunately didn't have any oysters that day. We ended ordering full priced entrees that were absolutely amazing! I loved the duck curry and I've never had a clear curry before so that was a great experience. We were able to get vegetarian spring rolls. I liked how the wrapper was so soft and the addition of the avocado. The Tom Yum beer was also a great experience. My only issue was the lack of understanding for guests with dietary restrictions. We were looking for items low in sodium and oil because of a heart condition but the server simply said everything is premade. She didn't work with us to find a solution or offer any recommendations to help us order. Super pretty place with great food but just be wary for those with restrictions.
I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I have such good memories of this place, but they didn't live up to my expectations this time around. I came to this restaurant 6 months ago, and had such a blast. Great portions, such beautiful interior and great energy all around. It left me wanted more. I couldn't wait until my next visit. Fast forward to the other day, I'm raving about this place to my friends saying we have to go there for lunch. No parking, it's near downtown. But It's right off Montgomery bart, a few blocks. It's a large restaurant, very accommodating for big parties. There were multiple parties with 8+ people. It was quite crowded, but they had us seated in 10 minutes. Now this is where my gripes begin to take place. First off, happy hour. Happy hour is from 5-7. I ask my waiter at 6:58ish about ordering for happy hour. She tells me 1 second. She literally waits in place. Then when the clock strikes 7 she comes back to my table to inform me that happy hour is over. I understand it ends at 7, but it was literally 7 on the dot, she could've made the exception and not been so punctual. If she would've come when I asked her, I wouldn't need these accommodations. It's like she was waiting for the clock to strike 7 just to tell me I couldn't get anything off the happy hour menu. Also my waiter had a little bit of attitude. Next, the portions and the prices. This place is a great example of how shrinkflation has impacted our restaurants. Now you might think there is nothing wrong with the portions pictured, which I understand if it's your first time coming here. But it wasn't mine. One of the big reasons I was pushing for us to come here was the portions I had 6 months ago. I initially came because I had this chicken dish called the Gai Tod. The portions were unbelievable. It could feed at least 3 people. I want to emphasize, this place isn't cheap. Most entrees are nearing 30 dollars. I highlighted to my friends, that the prices didn't matter because the portions were so big, that it was totally worth the cost. You could imagine my immediate disappointment when I received my plate. When I came here 6 months ago, the Gai Tod was 3x this size. At the absolute least maybe twice the size. 4-6 pieces of chicken and much more rice than you see on my plate. Now I all I receive is 2 pieces of chicken and sticky rice the size of a medium size egg. I could play hot potato with that thing. Mind you all the prices remain the same as they were 6 months ago. If the dish was leaning towards lower to mid 20s I'd allow it. But $28? Nah. Which was the price of all of our dishes. ALSO. THE DRINKS. I have a picture of a drink I got 6 months ago. I'll let the picture speak for itself. They might look bigger than they actually are but even so on top of that they were filled to the brim with ice.Now for the finale, my friends dish. I asked my friend if he would ever come back, he said no. I asked why, and it was because of his meal. He told me his dish, the noodle dish pictured was not worth it to say the least. The broth was ok, but the noodles were overcooked. With the noodles being 3/4s of his meal, I don't know what to tell you. Furthermore they gave him 3 meatballs for that big meal and the rest of the meat was quite lean, not what he was looking for. On a positive note, he said he liked his drink ( the pink drink.) My other friend enjoyed her pork chop rice plate. To be frank, my food tasted great. But I don't think it's worth repurchasing. I think this place is a dependable option for delicious overpriced food in a beautiful interior. The lights are gorgeous and even the bathroom is beautiful. But I don't know if I'll be returning.
Ive been here twice and I want to love this place! But not everything on the menu is a hit They have a great happy hour menu if u can make it in time, and I recommend going the family-style option because some dishes are very small. Highlights: - spicy crispy rice appetizer: this was a hit! it is VERY spicy though as someone who can tolerate alot! But its a great sharing size for a group of 2-4 people - the fried fish is crispy and delicious with a great sauce. But there is not that much meat on the fish itself - the tom yum is a bit watery and does not have a strong flavor, but it comes out on an open flame and is very shareable - the curry rice portion is super super small for the amount of curry that is provided. We had to get an extra rice. The curry is not super spicy and did not have as much depth of flavor Overall, I would come again but just for the crispy rice appetizer!
This place absolutely exceeded my expectations. The place is primarily Vietnamese but you would find Thai flavours. Such a wide variety of items in here - and everything is finger licking good. I absolutely had a feast here. I got Chicken Friend rice and it was good - not the best but above average. For the table fish platter was also exquisite. I can't recall which fish was that but it was really great..it also came up with so.many other item such as chicken wings. The seafood sizzling tom yum probably tasted the best. Thoughly enjoyed it. The Belgian beer they server was one of the best. In isolation probably every food I tried, I can find a better and slightly tastier version but a single place delivering and maintaining above average food quality over such a wide spectrum is rare. The ambience and environment was great. The place became super noisy later in the evening but it was so much fun dining out here.
Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Portion to Price: 3/5 Overall: A good option in fidi/downtown. The extended review... Food: Khao Nar Ped - 3/5 - A good healthy portion of duck over rice. Taste was standard fare. Service: 3/5 - Friendly staff. Ambiance: 4/5 - A well decorated setting with ample seating. Portion to Price: 3/5 - Pretty standard fare.
LOVE this place!! It's honestly so rare to find Lao food that feels this high-quality and truly authentic. Everything we tried was packed with flavor. Their happy hour platter deal is such a steal, it comes with oysters, sausage, chicken wings, and calamari, and the cocktails are only $7 (beers even cheaper). Amazing value for how good the food is. The vibe is always lively, and the staff are consistently warm and friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. Pro tip: go with a group so you can try more of the menu. I also love that many dishes come with fresh leafy greens so you can wrap everything - it adds the perfect fresh crunch and makes the meal even more fun and delicious. Definitely one of my go-to spots for great food and good vibes! My favorite dishes are the platter, fried rice, crispy spring rolls with leafy greens, papaya salad, and so much more :)
I came with a friend on a weekend night on the later side and there were not many people inside. It's a nice environment right in FiDi, and the plates are beautifully decorated for sure -- but I unfortunately didn't really love the food, We got a coconut curry which had good flavor but the meat inside was a bit too sinewy and also it was small portion size-- we kind of finished it in a few bites. As you can see, the leaves take up half the plate. We also got a bamboo salad and was excited to try it but I honestly couldn't eat much of it, was actually very spicy and also the raw vegetables on the side wasn't the most appealing. I assume some other things on the menu are better but definitely wasn't our day. My friend and I both agreed that the service was friendly but the food was so-so and overpriced for the sizes
We came here on Friday night for dinner. We had a reservation, so we were seated pretty quickly. Service-wise, our server was very friendly and our food came out pretty quickly. The ambiance was lively and loved the decor. We ordered: - "Tang-Mo" Watermelon Peanut Salad - I was initially skeptical about the combination, but I ended up really liking this! The juiciness and slight sweetness of the watermelon, really played will with the sightly sour and flavorful sauce, which made it taste very good! - Garlic Wings - It was pretty good, crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside and flavor was good, but nothing too out of this world. - Khaw Kai Noodles - The noodles were delicious and after adding the sauce, it really set off the taste very well. The chicken was also delicious and flavorful. - Spicy Thai Basil Chicken - Flavor-wise, this was delicious, but when we got it, the dish was not very warm or very spicy, which was a bummer. Overall, we had a great time and will be back in the future to try more items from the menu!
We came for lunch midday on a Friday and were sat instantly! The space inside is huge and the ceilings are so tall, it was the perfect place for a nicer lunch to catch up with coworkers. I was a little worried based on other reviews that the portions would be small for the price, but I was pleasantly surprised when our dishes came and the portions were MASSIVE! The rice dishes came with 2+ cups of rice and my Pad Mee Lao Prawns was enough for 2.5 meals. Flavor was great as well - nothing mind blowing but I was definitely happy with what I got. And on Fridays, they have happy hour all day. We didn't get anything off of the happy hour menu, but I would definitely try coming for happy hour next time.

Decent Laos restaurant located in the SoMa district in SF. Came with a group of friends right when the restaurant opened for dinner, so we didn't need to wait in line and were seated without reservation. We ordered a few entrees to share: - Khao Nar Ped, a couple of pieces of duck over rice. The duck was very flavorful but it was a very small portion for the price. - Pork belly, really well cooked, juicy, and tender, but also very small portion. - Khaw Khai noodles: basically just flat noodles with some chicken, was rather greasy. - Mok seabass, this was very spicy (not my preference). - German pork knuckle, this was the highlight. The knuckle had a lot of meat and was incredibly juicy. The meat was so tender it just fell apart off the bone. The meat soaked a lot of the sauces very well. Overall, the flavors were good but the portions were very small for the price. read more

Food was superb. The curry was so smooth. Wasn't overpowered by spice, and I loved that I could taste the coconut milk in it. Plating and garnishes were wonderful - very colorful foods, flowers and drinks. Great portions, friendly staff. Would definitely come back. read more
I learned Lao Table is also owned by Osha Thai--no wonder I felt like I've been there before upon walking in. Same atmosphere as Osha Thai. I've been here on two occasions now & I don't think I've had any dish I've disliked thus far. In true FOMO fashion, I like to go with people who like to over-order so I can try a bit of everything. As they say, the more food, the merrier (jk, that's not really a saying...). Would order again: - Vegetarian Crispy Rolls -- delicious veggie egg rolls--ordered this twice. - Tom En Keow -- coconut milk soup with beef. - Spicy Eggplant -- I love eggplant & tofu. - Khaw Kai Noodles -- wok-fried thick rice noodles with chicken. - Pad Mee Prawns -- stir-fried thin rice noodles. - Thai Tea -- a little sweet, but still good. Would skip unless it's within your preference: - Om Chicken Curry -- spicy chicken clear curry--bf liked this, but I thought it was kind of bland. - Mark Mango -- mango sticky rice with cream of coconut & mango icy--LOL I ordered this without knowing how big it was going to be. IT'S HUGE. - Lao Soda -- good amount of alcohol in this! I've been here for lunch & dinner, both times with reservations. They get really busy at lunch! Loved the interior decor, especially during dinner because they turn the purple & pink lights on (pink is my favorite color). Overall, wouldn't hesitate to come back here! read more

It's good, but I'm still debating on if it's good enough for that price. Most of the dishes come out to about a $20/plate average, until you get to the grilled-steamed section and it goes up to about a $30/plate average. I tried the Banana Blossom Salad ($13.95), Pad Pha Beef ($22.95), and the Basil Chicken ($16.95). I've had banana blossoms before, but it was foolish of me to not realize that the dish consisted of 90% banana blossoms. It goes very well with the Laotian dressing which to me seemed like a combination of fish sauce and chili sauce. It also comes with a side of what looks like sambal but is like 5x more spicy (in a good way). I enjoyed the other two dishes. They aren't worth writing in detail about, but you can't go wrong. What you should know is that the Pad Pha Beef comes by default at a medium spice level, and cannot be adjusted. This place is seriously packed during the lunch hour but it's a big restaurant and the wait isn't that long. read more

Hi Shannon, thank you for the review and pictures. We're glad you…
A bit pricey for the non-happy hour items but found the portions surprising big for SOMA prices. Recommend going for the happy hour which is everyday from 5-7 for the $1 oysters! For the price, they are decently sized and pretty tasty and served with a delicious sweet Asian chili sauce. One downside is you can only order 6 at a time but they typically don't run out and are more than happy to provide another round. Service is great, hostesses are very friendly and nice. Good stop if you need a quick snack/dinner after work downtown. read more

Hi Kristy,…
Went here for a MetroWize event that my friend complained about. We got two free drink tickets. I got Thai iced tea and a Pineapple Millionaire. They had too much ice. I got a basil chicken dish and that was pretty good, but it was overpriced. I don't like overpriced Thai food unless it's soooo good. Nice atmosphere. I don't know how this is different from Osha Thai...same owner. read more

We were looking for an asian restaurant near The Palace Hotel when we went to San Fransisco. This place was just a few minutes walk by the hotel. The restaurant was already full but we were able to get a table within 3 minutes that we arrived. I think it would be best to make a reservation before coming just to make sure! I think the name of my order was Garlic Pepper Pork. It tastes very good! They also have a generous serving with a complimentary soup. Our waiter was also very nice to us and attentive. Would definitely come back here when we're back at Downtown San Fransisco! read more

Sooo I've been trying to go to this spot forever because of the banana wrapped meals & the aesthetically pleasing look. I got the Black Pepper Pork with jasmine rice + a Thai Tea.. and MAN it was so bomb but the stomach ache I had after... I was in tears. This has also happened to my two other friends that have went, has anyone else got a FAT stomach ache from eating here?? read more

A pretty nice place for having team lunch and/or meeting friends. Dishes from fried rice to rice noodle bowl to steak are all dynamic and equally tasty in different ways. I'd definitely recommend the restaurant. However the place could be rather busy during weekday noons and a long wait could happen. So it's best to make reservations beforehand on Yelp to streamline the dining experience. My friend and I went there at our reservation time and got seated within 3 minutes :) Prompt, friendly and professional service from host and our servers is also a plus! read more

I love this place but I hate the price, if I go to this place everyday I would be broke. #foodiswhyimbroke everything is so good! I love the drinks, oysters, papaya salad, pineapple fried rice and the list goes on!! Trying my best to come as much as I can to get that same experience I had in Thailand, and this spot definitely gave me that experience with the interior decorations and food and service! But yes like how others have said below, I wish the portion was bigger since the price is so high but I guess quality over quantity. read more

My husband and I are here for the first time tonight. We had a wonderful experience. The food is similar to Thai but with a unique flair. The House tea was very good and different. It was blue and with some lemon turned purple! It is natural from a particular flower. The food was excellent, I recommend the chocolate soufflé cake with Thai ice cream for dessert. Kitty, the manager was very gracious and makes the experience even better. read more

This is so far my favorite restaurant in SF at the moment. The interior decor is beautiful, all the waitresses and staff were so nice and friendly, drinks are delicious, and then the food is beautiful and taste AMAZING. What more can you ask for. This place was so good I already came here twice lol. - My absolute favorite is the Kobe Beef with Sticky Rice. The Beef is so flavorful along with its chili dip and then balanced with the bouncy texture of the sticky rice is just PERFECTION!I literally think about this dish all the time. - The coconut juice here is fresh and is served right in the coconut. Sweet and refreshing. - I know most people rave about the mango shaved ice which is delicious but you should also try the chocolate soufflé cake with Thai ice tea ice cream. Probably going to come back here soon again :D read more

Was in San Francisco for a bachelorette party. We stopped in one night for dinner here. It was Saturday night and we had to wait about 30 mins for a table. I recommend you stop in for dinner here! read more

This review is for the food only: Garden Fish was $70 but was perfect for our hungry group of 5 + one more entree (basil chicken) and appetizer (banana blossom salad). Garden fish has all sorts of protein, pickled veggies and sticky rice and noodles for you to wrap in the fresh lettuce, mint & basil. It was really fun to eat with my coworkers. The basil chicken rice was so flavorful. The banana blossom salad was interesting to try but was a little too fiber-y for my taste. The desserts were also beautiful and delicious, but the favorite in our group was the Thai tea ice cream on top of the chocolate soufflé. I would definitely come back with my friends. read more

Came here for lunch on a Thursday around 12pm and it sure gets packed here. Luckily, it was just a party of two so we were able to get seated right away. Decor has traditional things with a modern touch. We ordered an appetizer to share and two entrees. I also really liked their dishware and glassware - very unique in design and pretty. - papaya salad (vegetarian): this dish is $21.95, which is a bit pricey for salad, but when it came out we understood why it costed so much. The dish comes on a large platter with lettuce, mints, fried tofu, rice wrap spring rolls, fried rolls with mushrooms inside and a bowl of spicy papaya salad. The salad got too spicy for me to eat more but it was good. I liked the rice wrap spring roll and would like to try with meat in the future. - Kway teow: similar to pad see ew from Thai cuisines because of the wise rice noodles, flavor, chicken, and peanut bits sprinkled all over. I liked how they put the bean sprouts on the side since I am not usually a fan of it. Super large dish so I had to take leftovers home. Flavorful, noodles were nice and soft with good chicken where it wasn't dry! Came with a sauce that wasn't spicy but more sour, but yummy! - Red curry: my coworker had this order made vegetarian and she always orders it when she comes so I assume it is tasty to her. Total was around $75 for three dishes between us two including tips and taxes. Would return to try, but it is on the pricer end. read more

Amanda, thank you for the detailed review and photos. We're glad you…
Came here on a whim when our napa trip was cut short, thanks to my yelp research we found a great spot! It's a large place, a little dark, and gets very crowded but the tables are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel cramped. The food was great! We started with two orders of the crispy spring rolls which were great as was the dipping sauce - pretty classic but always one of my favorites, they didn't disappoint! For dinner my fiancée and I shared the khaw kai noodles (similar to a more soy-based pad Thai) and the Lao fried rice which comes with 3 chicken wings. Both were AMAZING and we left absolutely stuffed to the brim, love me some asian food. Others at the table got pho duck (which he raved about) and the basil chicken which I didn't try but looked just as good (photo below). All in all, a good night out atmosphere with awesome food and quick service - great for a more upscale asian dinner out! Loved it! read more

$$ is not quite right. It feels more like $$$$. It's probably more expensive than Kin Khao, which has 1 Michelin Star. The menu is very similar to what it was like when it was Osha but it's even more outrageously expensive. We ordered three rice dishes to share for lunch: Basil Chicken ($16.95), Lao Fried Rice ($18.95), and Kobe Beef lunch special ($19.95). The portions were relatively large and the best one by far was the Lao Fried Rice. It was a dark colored fried rice with minced chicken, hot basil, chicken wings, and a fried egg. It was very tasty and it's different from the other rice dishes. I had high hopes for the Kobe Beef. It was pretty good but it only came with 4 strips of beef and some onions on top of a huge pile of rice. Not the best value. The Basil Chicken was not that great. I'm personally not a fan of white meat chicken because it can easily become tough and chewy. This dish definitely suffered in that way. We didn't get anything to drink and we each paid $25 for lunch. Lao Table is extremely overpriced but at least the food is ok. read more

The restaurant has a trendy decor and I liked the look of the place. It got crowded for lunch on a weekday and I'd recommend a reservation. The staff did their job but wasn't especially helpful. I'm not a Laotian expert so I can't tell you how authentic the food is. Here are my thoughts though. I ordered the pineapple rice bowl and it was massive! I took a to go box which rarely happens. It had both chicken and shrimp but the chicken was a little dry (lots of though) and there were only two small shrimp. The flavor was good and it had a nice variety of vegetables. For $18 I'd expect it to be better. I went for lunch on a weekday and they use the same menu and pricing that the do for dinner. That makes lunch too pricey and too much food. In my option they should have a smaller portion lower priced menu for lunch but they were packed so why would they change. read more

Ok, first....get a reservation. This place gets busy, esp on weekends. The crew is very efficient and friendly and the vibe is great. We waited about 15 mins at the bar for our table and it's a good scene there and the drinks are pricey but great. The food came quickly and was just awesome...I had the Totally Prawns which was a great curry dish....perfect spice and the prawns were very tasty. My buddy had the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and chicken which was a great choice as well. Love this place. Now stop reading and GO! read more

******UPDATE: I have to update this review. I really enjoyed the food and service but if you are using your credit card- DON'T. Three of us got fraudulent charges on our credit card the following day. We narrowed it down to who used their credit cards where and it pointed to Laos. So beware if you are using your credit card to pay. **** After finishing happy hour at Anchor and Hope around the corner for $1 Oysters, my friends and I stopped by the newly opened Lao Table to check out their Happy Hour since it ends at 7pm. I must say it is a beautiful space- great job on the renovations! (use to be Osha's Thai on 2nd Street) I've been here twice for the happy hour from 5-7pm. I would like to try their dinner menu items soon as well. Some tasty bites we had were: Chicken wings- you can't eat just one. Must order multiple orders! Heavenly beef- tasty beef jerky. Fries- yummy! Mango & caramel sauce- it's an acquired taste as it has fish sauce but i loved the sweet & salty combo here. Sausages- nice flavors Vegetable Spring Rolls- deep fried goodness Food was delicious and service was excellent. Will definitely include this in my rotation of favorite places in the city to hop around too in the city! read more

LaoTable Reviews in Other Languages
Ask the Community - LaoTable
Is the menu for lunch and dinner the same, or does lunch have a smaller offering?
How busy on weekdays?
I went on a weekday and the place was not busy. If you have a large party I would recommend calling to make a reservation.
Is it easy to find parking?
There's a parking garage across the street in an alley.
Does Lao Table have Keto friendly options?
Absolutely! They have many meat/poultry dishes (over veggies, for example).
Is kids friendly?
There are no particular efforts from the restaurants to entertain kids. Most of the diners are adults. The food has a kick, which might be a little bit too spicy for kids.
How bad is the wait time for lunch on weekends?
If you make a reservation you are all set and it isn't hard to make one even the day before. Great restaurant!
Do they still have the $1.00 oyster happy hour?
Yes! Every Monday to Friday 16:30 to 19:00.
