This shop is absolutely horrendous! I went in to have my transfer case fluid checked and that's it. The 2 employees then come and tell me that both lower control arms on the front are bad and need to be replaced. For this they quoted $1200. For parts they quoted $320 for each control arm. What they didn't know is that i installed those control arms myself 4 months prior. Not only are the parts brand new, they were $215 and not $320. They also tell me that my rack and pinion needs to be replaced because it's sweating a little bit. For this they quoted $1800. They informed me that no one has the part in stock so they have to go OEM. For the part itself they quoted $1200. My rack and pinion is fine. After I left the shop i called parts stores. And the first place I called told me they had a rack and pinion for $350. While one person was informing me about my car, the other person went ahead and did a transfer case flush without asking for my approval. And then charged me $110. I went in to get it checked and that was it. In addition to that, when they had my car on the lift, they did not lift it from the manufacturer recommended lift points. Because of this, they compleatly flattend my pinch welds. Do not ever go to this shop. They run a shady and dishonest business. As far as I'm concerned, these gentlemen are running a 6 STAR business. After personally addressing a multitude of issues on my '01 4Runner, it was still having misfires. I called Lakeside Automotive, and their wonderful representative Aaron quickly picked up the phone. I told him the problems I was having, as well as what work I had already preformed myself. He was incredibly helpful and suggested a few other tests that I could do that might bring me to a conclusion about what was causing the misfires. I was impressed by the fact that he gave me expert mechanical advice, even if it meant I wasn't bringing them my truck and paying for it. Considering the amount of work I had already put into the truck, I was happy to let someone else work on it. I asked him what their availability was and they said as soon as two days (which is pretty dang good imo). I was, however, a bit impatient and decided to have a look around and see if someone else could get me in sooner. To my surprise, all the other local shops I looked into had very poor reviews, and I decided it would be well worth the small wait to get in at Lakeside. Fast forward those two days and I drop my truck off. I received two calls later that day from their mechanic, Troy, giving me updates on the testing that they were doing on my 4Runner. Luckily for me, Troy is a die hard Toyota fan and went above and beyond trying to fix my problems. I would 110% recommend this shop for their excellent customer service, reputable mechanics, and prompt service. This shop is insane, not only do they charge 110% up charge on parts but they also refuse to work on your vehicle if you purchase the parts first, I had my car towed to their shop and they were saying the 41$ coolant line was going to be 89$ I called ford to see if I could find the part myself and found out they had just ordered it and only paid 41.50 I called back and let them know I would pay for the part myself and have them put it on for labor and asked why they charged so much for the part, their response was "that's how we make money" I can't even joke about this shit! The next day they call and say hey we're not going to make that repair anymore you need to come pick it up, they charged me 60$ for a diagnostic and then had a 3% charge cuz I used my card ended up paying 90 bucks for nothing and had to pay for a tow to another shop which is absolutely unbelievable, the shop is actually run by man baby's and I can't believe they're still in business read more

We were driving from Southern California, pulling a horse trailer on our way to Wyoming when my daughter's truck started to misfire. We were planning to overnight in Provo so, I called ahead to see if they could look at it the following morning. Not only did they jump on it first thing but, after fixing the problem they did a quick safety check because they knew my daughter would be on her own when she got to Wyoming. They even changed a fuel filter free of charge. They got it done earlier that estimated and were professional, friendly, great communicators and obviously knew the ins and outs of the truck. The original review is left below, but I have to drop 2 stars because Frank was unable to diagnose a problem that returned and was later diagnosed over the phone by someone else in a matter of minutes. I'll give Frank the benefit of the doubt here and props for not charging me for any diagnostics, but you've got to be able to figure out something like a busted/dying starter if you're a mechanic! Original Review: Here's my story: To my dismay, my trusty ol' Jeep failed to start the other day. After many failed attempts, I was able to get it to start up so that I could get it to a mechanic. I dropped it off with Frank and explained the problem, mentioning I could use an oil change as well since it was already in the shop. Later that afternoon, I called in to see if there had been any progress. Frank told me he'd tried to start the car 15-20 times and it started great every time. Either Frank has magical powers and cars self heal when they're around him or my failed starts were a fluke. Either way, he asked if he could keep it overnight just to test it one more time in the morning, which was fine with me. The next day rolls around and I call in to check on it (I was probably being annoying with all my calls, but I needed to be able to get to work by 9:30 so the pressure was on!). As before, it started up without any trouble. With no problem presenting itself, I went in to pick up the car. Frank mentioned he'd changed the oil and actually fixed one of the hoses that he noticed was leaking a bit. He then informed me that he would just charge me for the oil change, no diagnostic fees or anything! This is huge, in my opinion. Many mechanics will nickel and dime you, telling you that your belt is bad, or even that you "flux capacitor" needs more "megawatts" (trying to confuse you with fancy, made up terms). Frank did neither. He was perfectly honest, even telling me that my belts didn't need replacing yet after I'd asked if they did. Try asking that question at Jiffy Lube immediately after you put a new belt in and they'll tell you that you need a new one! Frank's isn't the most inexpensive repair around, but it's far from the most expensive either. I paid $44 for my whole endeavor. More important than price or anything, Frank is an honest mechanic. That alone is worth everything! Go to Frank's when you need service - you won't be disappointed and you will be taken care of!! read more

I'm glad I waited a week to write this review. Shortly after dealing with Frank I was ready to give him five stars. He was honest, did the work well and didn't charge us too much. He didn't however fix the problem we went in for because the car stopped making a problem when we got it to the shop. Today however the problem started (or more like didn't start) again. The car wouldn't start. I had a mechanic friend over the phone tell me what to do to get the car started. Woohoo! Now I know what the problem is with the car. Frank while saving us money by not going in and tinkering with the car to find the problem still failed because he wasn't able to fix the problem. I'm glad we know now, but with Franks non fix we could have gotten stranded somewhere. Before today, I probably would have gone back in a heartbeat, but today happened, and now I'm not quite sure. My recommendation, if you have a common problem or it is very obvious what needs to be done, go to Frank's he is honest. If you have a bit of a puzzler, call the click n clack brothers and then go somewhere else. :) read more

I was pretty sure I had a blown gasket on my Honda, but I wanted to bring it somewhere to get it formally diagnosed. I spoke with Aaron on the phone, and he was friendly but also answered my questions about timing and pricing directly. As I was pulling up with my car, steam was coming out from under the hood, so Aaron ran right out and diagnosed the issue with a hydrocarbon test in about 10 minutes. Great service. Really great service. They are prompt to receive you and work quickly on your vehicle. They don't tack on a lot of unknown "services" but they also make sure you (visually see for yourself) when a big problem arises, making it easier to part with any money for a big vehicle procedure. I came here a few weeks ago because a five star review on yelp means something and was impressed with how many there were. My rotors and breaks needed to be replaced and they also noticed my rear calipers and a wheel bearing needed to be fixed as well. I knew the wheel bearing did but didn't have time that day and brought my car back a couple weeks later. They handed me an invoice detailing the repairs my car would need and said its in their computer program. I brought my car in yesterday to have the necessary repairs made, an oil change as well, and asked if they could look at my breaks they repaired since they're starting to squeak. I asked how long and was told four hours- this was just before 10am- since I had kids to pick up later that afternoon and appointments to get to. I call around 3 for an update and they were just working on the last caliper. Fair enough. I arrange to get my kids picked up and at 4 (six hours later in case you were wondering) I ride my bike to pick up my car. Come to find out, the oil wasn't changed and they didn't feel the bearing needed to be replaced since they didn't hear it on the roads. I reminded them they were the ones that told me it needed to be replaced in the invoice given to me and it doesn't make sound until you're over 45 on the freeway. The two guys looked at me like I was in shock, whether it was because I knew what I was talking about or because I got snippy I don't know. The bearing has needed to be fixed for some time and I commute to SLC. What were they doing to my car for six hours? Im a nurse who works over 50 hours a week at night and I don't time for this. this place is seriously the best. the first time i came in i had serious issues with my car and they gave it a full diagnostic and got it on the hydraulics and everything. they ended up not being able to find the issue and they didn't make me pay the diagnostic fee because of that. the second time i came in i had a check service light on and they found a loose piece under the hood and just put it back in place and it seemed to have fix the issue. they could have easily diagnosed something very expensive to be fixed on it, but it was something minor and i was in and out in less than five minutes. they are rare because of how honest and genuinely helpful they are. read more

You know that feeling when your on vacation and something goes with your car and you feel helpless because you don't know the area? That happened to us and we felt so sure that we would not find a decent, honest place to help. We went to O'Rielly Auto to see if they could offer any help. NOOOOOO they can't and they won't without trying to upsell you on stuff you don't need. Plus, their customer service was crappy. Now, I decide to Yelp auto places and Lakeside was the first to come up and it was close. These guys were soooo cool. They literally treated us like we were best friends. They came out quickly and fixed our car at no charge. It turns out that it was just a reset button that needed tweaking. In five minutes they had it fixed and we were on our way. When I offered to pay, all three of them waved me off and said there would be no charge and have a nice day. We did, thank you very much!!! Thank you guys. I took my car for an inspection and not only did he fix my car, but he also gave me a very thorough lesson/advice on the maintenance procedures. My car needed a new battery, which he explained in detail of the voltage measurements when it's running or powered off. Showed me what/how to measure it and what his diagnosis was. We also checked the brakes/rotor/disks, allowed me to feel the tires, explained the oil change procedures, explained the belts, liquids, etc. I really enjoyed the quality and knowledge of the work he does. I took my car to Big Boy Auto Service. They told me my rack and pinion needed to be replaced for 800 dollars. I took it to Frank because he said he could replace a rack and pinion for 650. When I took it in, Frank found that the rack and pinion didn't even need to be replaced. It just needed some grease put into it. Frank fixed the problem for free. I took two cars into Frank's Lakeside Service. The first car would often stall or kind of "jump" when I would drive it, so I took it in to have it checked out. The guys at Frank's checked it out and assured me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car, that its behavior was normal. I trusted them since I know nothing about cars. About two weeks later, the car broke down. I took it to another auto repair shop, and they were able to find the real problem away: one of the cylinders had gone out. Frank's ended up costing me far more money since they were unable to find this problem and fix it the first time. My second car had a leak from a broken CV axle. I had to get it towed to Frank's since I could not drive it at all. It was a Friday evening, so I had to leave it there over the weekend. When I returned to pick it up the following Wednesday, I discovered that someone had broken into my car and stolen all of my valuables from the car. The police reported that there was no sign of a break-in which means that either one of the guys left my car unlocked OR one of them stole my stuff. I prefer to believe that they just left it unlocked, but I have no way to know for sure since the security footage does not have the entire time it was there logged, plus my car is not seen at a good angle in the footage. On top of all that, they did NOT actually fix the leak. While I was working on reporting the theft, I noticed tons of fluid under my car and ended up having to drive to Toyota to get a real fix since I no longer felt I could trust the guys at Frank's to fix it. Seriously, they screwed up with TWO of my cars which cost me hundreds of dollars not even including the valuables I lost from the theft! I will never go to them again and certainly don't recommend their service to anyone. read more

Our Lexus RX400H began spraying coolant and clouds of coolant vapor everywhere on a Friday morning. I am handy so took a quick look, then realized this would take more time to find and fix the problem than I had. Aaron quickly spotted the crack in the radiator and within 5 minutes had us a quote. Frank is an honest, fair, and excellent mechanic. After reading the other two posts on here, I wanted to respond with my experience. I've had my car repaired by Frank probably two dozen times since living in Utah. Only once did I have to return a week later with the same problem (which was not uncommon for the type of repair I had). Frank was apologetic and extremely easy to deal with. He fixed the car again free of charge, and the car has run perfectly since. If -- for some reason -- you have a less than satisfactory experience with Frank, I'm confident he would work hard to fix the situation.
