My experience with them was a stressful one, but it wasn't their fault at all. They did their very best to communicate with me when I wasn't easy to reach, and wouldn't do a single thing to my car, no matter what the diagnosis was, until I fully consented to that work being done and paying for it. It took a little longer than I was expecting, but they were still kind the whole time and crystal clear about what I was paying for and why. I'm not sure how much it would be at another place to replace all the brake pads and 2 rotors of an SUV, but my total ended up being around $850! read more

I would highly recommend this shop. They may not be the cheapest shop but they are the best shop. We made the mistake of going to a different shop about a year ago for an AC problem. The other shop "fixed" the problem and within 9 months we had no AC again. So the second time we went back to honest-1 auto. It cost a little more but that was 3 years ago and it's still working perfectly. We recently had a transmission replaced on our truck and drove the 45 miles to get it done at Honest-1 Auto. After the repair was done an unexpected problem happened on the way home. I gave them a call and they immediately jumped into action. They helped get the car towed back to the shop and gave us a loaner vehicle for the night. By midday the next day the problem was solved and everything is working great. They have THE BEST customer service I have seen from any shop and they provide high quality work. If you live anywhere near them it's worth the drive, don't settle for a shop that's going to get your business for low ball prices, go to a shop that is going to fix the problems. read more

After arriving I noticed something burning in the engine compartment. Water pump went out and there was no way I could make it to Casper. On vacation the night before the Fourth of July, our car broke down. This place was recommended to us, and we showed up first thing in the morning on the Fifth. They were very busy, but they understood our situation and fit us in. They were gracious and professional throughout. Their waiting area is clean and open. Bathrooms are also well-taken care of. They found the problems, fixed them, answered our questions, took it for a test drive, and did not charge us an arm and a leg for the service. I highly recommend. read more

After hitting a rock and damaging my A/C condenser I needed someone to replace my condenser after going to 3x auto shops in Richfield I realized the part was back ordered 3 weeks. After ordering the part from eBay some dealers said they wouldn't work with the part I bought for warranty issues. Honest-1 did say they would work with my supplied part. When I picked my car up I found out the refrigerant (32 oz. R1234 YF) and labor cost a little over $950.00. This does seem a little high to me, but the part that bothered me was there was never a quote provided. Total surprise! I understand this refrigerant is expensive, but it seems they are getting an unusually bad deal from their supplier. I did have to wait 3 days before they would let me come in, but this was actually really good compared to other mechanics in the area at the time. The work was done same day. The A/C works well, and it seems the workmanship was well done. To be fair I'm not sure I asked for a quote, but it seems anything over $500 should probably involve a phone call to proceed, or a general ball park at the begging would have been nice. Putting honest in your name is a real selling point, just wish I didn't have the curve ball thrown at the end. read more

I came to Honest 1 Auto Care to have my OneStop emissions and safety inspections done. I had no prior experience with mechanics in the Provo area, and picked them out of the blue. They were fast, friendly, and (as their name implies) honest. The pricing was excellent. Cheapest rate for the safety and emissions I've ever seen. They warned me about a few components of the car that were showing wear that might need to be replaced soon, but there was no pressure nor scare tactics to push me into having it fixed immediately. I got my Struts replaced by DIS-Honest 1, because they were recommended to me by a friend. When they gave me an estimate for the complete job they failed to mention that they charged extra for an alignment which is required whenever you replace the struts. When they finished the strut replacement they informed me of the extra work that was "recommended". When getting estimates from other shops I talked to they included all of the job price in the initial estimate, which is the standard practice. WARNING: When asking for an estimate from Honest 1 make sure you get the price for the whole job (which is not always the price they give you). read more

These guys have lost me as a customer after over a year. Looking back, I should have found a new mechanic months ago. Avoid this shop at all costs. I always felt I was being overcharged on the work they did, but kept returning merely for how close they are to my home and work. But, this last trip was the deal breaker. To make a long story short, I was told my vehicle needed almost $1,000 worth of work to get the engine light off. After saving for over a month, I went back to have the work done so no farther damage occurred. $1000 later and 3 more trips to their shop, and they still can't "figure out" why the light is still coming on. Took my car here because it was "overheating." The gauge said it was over heating but it wasn't. I took my car here for a diagnostics, and they told me it was blown head gasket and 2,000 to repair. I was told " fix it or sell it" long story short I went to a Japanese car specialist and it turned out to be an electrical problem on my car. I was about to pay 2,000 for an issue that didn't even exist. But they were certain it was that due to " further testing" I'm convinced they didn't do anything. My roommate had the same issue with his suspension. Told him it was an 850$ repair for his wheel bearing. They told it was loose and they could fix it. He took it to a different mechanic, It was just a loose rotor that cost 200$ to fix. Scamming mechanics. read more

When I dropped my car off this morning, I wanted to leave Honest-1 Auto Care a 100 percent positive review. The receptionist/office manager was so kind and friendly and accommodating, their shuttle driver took me home for free and within minutes after we determined that the service I'd requested was going to take longer than scheduled - and even offered to come back and give me a return trip to the shop to pick up my car when it was finished. I was pretty blown away. I had scheduled a "free a/c check" and oil change, and (I thought) an a/c charge. When I got to the shop at 10 a.m., I learned that time for the a/c charge hadn't actually been scheduled, and that it was going to take longer than I had planned for the appointment. Okay, they drove me home and offered to come pick me up to come back. No big deal. They were able to schedule the a/c recharge the same day, and because it was my husband's primary work truck, it was a big deal to me to have everything handled in a day. My appointment had been scheduled for 10 a.m. and I was told that they would call me soon with an update, and that I could pick the truck up "this afternoon." By 3:00, I hadn't heard anything so my daughter called the shop to check for an update. She was told that the oil had been changed and they were in the middle of checking out the ac. It had already been 5 hours and my appointment had been scheduled for 10 a.m. Having dealt with more than my share of mechanics and shops in my life, I didn't sweat it too much. The mechanic who answered the phone said they'd call back with an update. Like 5 minutes later, my phone rang. They said that the ac unit and compressor seemed to be working "fine," that there were no leaks, and that with my permission they'd charge it with Freeon ($100) and that "9/10 times" the ac would work fine after being charged. It's been 100 degrees outside, and I had already planned on paying for the recharging, so I told them to go ahead. At 3:30 I got a follow-up call. They had charged the ac but it was still blowing hot air. Like 92 degrees. Now they said that there was an issue with the car that they hadn't diagnosed during the ac check. Would I like to pay an additional $99 for an hour of service to dismantle my dashboard and then another $200-400 dollars for a repair? No thanks. Instead, I asked when I could pick up the truck. I was told an hour, that it was still dismantled. At 4:15, my daughter and I returned to Honest-1. The truck was not ready - we saw when we arrived at the location that it was still in a bay. No biggie. We went inside to wait and were offered complimentary drinks. To be fair, the lobby was cool and clean and had free wi-fi and a children's play area, but we were just wanting to grab the vehicle and get on with our day, which took about another 30 minutes. When I returned home with the paperwork for the truck, I turned to Google and YouTube to figure out the best way to proceed with the repair (was the price worth it, was it something we could do ourselves?). Turns out, the single most common ac problem in a Silverado with a fully-charged and functional ac system is a failed Blend Door Actuator. The "dismantling of the dashboard" for our year truck was 30 seconds of popping out a single piece. The replacement part was around $50 and changing it takes less than 10-15 minutes. After watching the video, my husband went out to check out the truck and realized that the part of the dash covering the actuator was actually missing and he was able to reach up with his bare hand and switch the HVAC system from heat to ac in 30 seconds. An experienced mechanic should have known what the problem was after a recharge failed. And if they'd been paying attention at all, they would have known that the dash didn't need to be dismantled (to the tune of $100) to diagnose and/or fix the problem. Needless to say, my husband is driving to work tomorrow in an air conditioned truck and we'll be handling the replacement part ourselves when the time comes (after all, it takes under a minute to reach under the dash and switch the system from heat to ac manually rather than using the controls on the front of the dash. This is not a hardship.) Also, we saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars by taking a little initiative and looking into the problem ourselves. Sigh. I really wanted to like these guys and give them a glowing review, but I can't help but feel like they tried to fleece us. They had to have known what the problem was after the newly-charged ac didn't blow cold air. It seems to be common with our vehicle, and it is literally the part they listed in their post-service report as the likely culprit. And, even for a non-skilled newbie it would take no more than 15 minutes to swap out. No $100 diagnostic required. No 400 percent mark-up on parts and labor. read more

Overall I had a pretty good experience. Busy time of year but I was warned ahead of time. They contacted me telling me what was wrong a day after dropping off my car (as promised), and fixed it within an hour of telling me what was wrong. They were upfront about prices and told me all costs before doing any work. I respect that. My car wasn't all mechanic greasy when I got it back, which I really liked. Coupled with horrible customer service, after specifically scheduling for a certain oil service they put the more expensive, unnecessary oil costing me $20 extra. Full disclosure I wrote this review on google and I am copying and pasting because I am lazy. Everything in my little story and review is true and I stand by it. I had a very good experience with Honest Auto. A friend of mine recommended them to me, and I decided to take their advice. I am glad that I did. I have been to Campus Tire Pros in Provo and was not impressed, and I have been to Clegg, and they were eh. This past week made me an Honest Auto Customer for life! Let me tell you why: I took my Jeep in for necessary repairs. My brakes were making noises and I knew I was very overdue for an oil change. When I arrived, I spoke with Bob, the owner, about needing to have all four of my brakes and rotors replaced. He said I'll check them out, and call you with what I think needs to be done. He was super friendly so I laughed and said I knew how bad they were, and to just change all four. About an hour later Bob calls me and says that they have looked at my breaks and he felt only the back needed replaced. He broke down all the costs for me before he did anything. He said "it will be $XX for the back brakes for parts and labor. We can do your front brakes, but honestly you have another year on them that would save you $XX today." He then broke down a couple options in between a full brake replacement and gave me their prices. Totally transparent the whole time. When I went back to pick my Jeep up, the price was exactly what he said it would be, and instead of pushing me with all the other things wrong with my vehicle, he told me a couple things that could be a problem in the future, and provided quotes on what they would be if I did need to have them done later. Needless to say in a year when my front brakes need replaced, I will be going back to Honest Auto. One last note to the people who have made it this far. i haven't been to too many auto mechanics in provo, but i am always skeptical of them in general. my family and personal friends have all had issues from various mechanics in different areas, so i have a general distrust for them. not so with these guys! our family had to return our leased camry and was upgrading to a mini-van, and we needed to get an inspection of the vehicle (so we knew we weren't getting swindled by the dealer). i scheduled a 21 point inspection of a 2006 toyota sienna, and i brought the van in the same day i made the appointment. they spent about 30-45 minutes and checked areas for wear-and-tear and some other safety features of the vehicle. they charged me $39.95 with tax, which i thought was a pretty good price for what they were doing. they were friendly and respectful, and most importantly were honest. it really was all in the name. i came out feeling happy about my purchase with the dealership, but i was also happy with the service i received from honest 1 auto care. read more

Wanted $550.00 to replace two lower control arms that did not need to be replaced. Admittedly the bushings are not the tightest, but I am a student who doesn't need to go replacing parts that don't actually need to be replaced yet. Here's the story. Brought my car in for safety and emissions and they claimed it needed new lower control arms because the bushings were bad. I asked, "Is it possible to replace just the bushings and not the entire control arm". They said " No, it's not possible". FALSE. It is possible, I just wanted to see what they would say. Well, I took my car to J R Custom muffler and Brake (GO HERE, THEY ARE AWESOME) and had 'em look at the bushings on the control arms, and I looked at them. They were worn but not broken or needing to be replaced. I had it confirmed from another fella who works on Honda's. So, I took the car back to Honest 1 Auto and had them do a re-check. They said they would show me the part that needed to be replaced when they had it up, which they forgot to do while they were busy passing my safety and emissions test. There wasn't a great vibe with these guys and it felt like they care more about your money then you or your car. In short, do not go here. They lure you in with "Student discounts" and then try to sell you repairs you don't really need. They'll also be sending you spam in the mail and your e-mail for ever after. UPDATE: 6/11/2012 It has been 8 months since I went to Honest 1 Auto Care and I just had yet ANOTHER mechanic tell me that the lower control arms are fine and have plenty of miles left on them. I took my truck to Honest 1 for a second opinion after a "free" routine oil change at my dealer turned in to them saying that I had a "safety emergency" on my hands with all 4 of my rotors and breaks being completely worn and needing to be replaced "immediately!" After Honest 1 looked at my truck, Bob politely let me know that I was being scammed by my dealer and I wouldn't need to worry about getting new breaks and rotors for another 2-3 years since they were all still in the "Green Zone." I don't understand some of the bad reviews. I've been going to Honest 1 in Provo, UT for at least 6 years now. They have always been the most friendly autoshop I've been too. They know my name, partially my car's fault, and I truly feel like they have gone above and beyond what anyone should expect from and auto mechanic. Hones-1 auto care is not honest. I have been going to them for some time, always thinking that I was overcharged. It was convenient for me and that is why I went. This last time I went in I knew exactly what I wanted to be done and I had told them what I wanted. When I came in to pay for it I found out that they did more things than I wanted and had charged me the extra and also the Labor, but what could I do when they take a part out of your car and replace it with a new one. Upfront with what I needed, and when I asked about other services they offered they said they weren't necessary. Biggest thing for me was to fill I wasn't being sold on things. I have had great experiences here. They charge very reasonable rates and always inform me if something does not need to be done yet (unlike other places I have taken my car). They are very friendly and explain things very well. Really great folks. We are new to area after recent move. Needed our state requirements for Utah plates. Brought both of our vehicles to be inspected. My wife's car experienced warning light (ABS/ESP) when we were driving. The dash lights up with multiple warnings. Interesting thing was they told her she needed oil change and NEVER mentioned warning light concern. I had Honest 1 work on my 2003 town and country minivan after checking on a check engine code, the code was for a failure in the transmission solenoid. My van was not shifting gears. I told them about the code, however they check everything out and determined that part of the problem was my fuse box, 588$ latter for replacing the fusebox they still had not found the problem. Finally after 3 days they found the problem to be the transmission solenoid which hey charged me an extra 400$ to replace. I think they are overpriced I'm never going back to them , they are not true mechanics They only replace parts. The mechanic showed me the fuse box they had replaced and only one of the fuses was bad. why replace the entire box? If only one of the fuses was bad?.. I talked to a different shop and the fuse box replacement was not something they had to replace . IM NEVER GOING BACK TO THEM FOR SERVICE. read more

This time was the third or fourth time I've taken my car to Honest 1, and it will be the last. The other times I have been pleased, and they did good work, however they lost my trust on this last visit. My SUV has been horribly sluggish and making a ticking sound within the engine. Sluggish to the point that it can't make it up a steep hill without bogging down and dropping speed well below that of traffic around you. I told these complaints to H1, and left the vehicle with them for a day. When they called me towards the end of the day, they told me their technician looked over the vehicle and took it for a drive, and couldn't find anything wrong with it, nor did the technician feel the vehicle lacked power. Really? Anyone who drives this car knows it lacks power and has something wrong. I can't even sell the dang car because everyone knows it has issues when they test drive it, yet Honest 1's tech thought it was fine. They were indeed happy to charge me $80.00 for their time and send me on my way having done nothing for me. I will not be using Honest 1 for any repairs in the future, I'm now in the market for a new auto mechanic. read more

I had my rear brakes fixed at this Provo location around Christmas time. So far all is well with the brakes. However, the price charged for each of the two calipers was over $50 more than charged by the major auto parts distributors in town. I basically was told that was the was what Honest 1 paid for them. $129 versus $78 at a prominent parts distributor. I was from out of town and needed the vehicle to get back home with my family, otherwise i would have pushed back more aggressively on this issue. I won't be going back to Honest 1 and would recommend doing your pricing homework before agreeing to any service at this location. read more

I have had a horrible experience over the last 2 weeks with Honest 1 Auto. My car was having trouble starting so I took it in to have it looked at. They told me that my starter,battery, and power steering hose needed to be fixed ASAP for the problem to be solved. $700 later I picked up my car and drove home. Later that night I went to start my car and It would not even turn on. I finally got it started and drove straight back to Honest 1 Auto. I explained the problem and they said they would have a look at it. They said that the problem was not actually the starter, battery, or the hose and instead charged me another $100 to fix a "wire" that was malfunctioning. Happy the problem was finally solved I picked up my car that afternoon and drove home. Once again I went to drive that night and this time although my car turned on, now my lights would not work. I took that car back the next morning and explained the problem, and they tried to tell me that the problem was totally unrelated, and it was going to cost another arm and a leg because this time I had to replace the computer in the car. Seriously this place is a joke and they take advantage of their customers. I paid almost $1000 and my car is worse off than it was before I took it to Honest 1 Auto. read more
