I wear a suit daily, enjoy my fine Italian shoes, and make sure I keep up with my manicures so my fingernails don't click on my keyboard as I am pounding out my electronic communications. I can wheel and deal with the best of em and make it rain to the point Tom Skilling and I are in discussions to have me as a regular segment on WGN. What I can't do is, well....anything considered manly. It literally took me four hours to hang a Curtain Rod. Unable to make it level I used chewing gum under the rod to heighten one side - walaa, done! Out of chewing gum and with a list full of projects that needed a semblance of testosterone, I was referred to LSH by a neighbor. Emailed them (with cat like precision) and heard back the next day. $50 x hr with a 2 hr minimum - and WOW what Todd got done in a few short hours.... Painted ceiling - Check. Installed Chandelier - Check. Caulked Windows? - Check! Installed Sconce - Check! Helped remove a stripped nail from an outside lantern - Check. Installed a electrical switch - Check!!!! All done in about 4 hours (including him leaving to buy supplies) - BOOM. Very Professional, Quick, thoughtful, Knowledgeable. I've used another service in the past and although acceptable it was no where near the service we experienced from Todd and LSH! The only negative thing is that I am going to go broke. Not from paying them, but from not having any more excuses for postponing my Home Reno projects. Home Depot look out. Once I make some more loot from toiling over my emails, we have a date. For now, I have to go and get a Mani... My fingers are clicking as I type this, plus I need to relax for awhile. This review was a lot of work. My 3 year old son watches Handy Manny, you know the cartoon voiced by Fez from That 70's Show. In it, Handy Manny and his talking tools fix everyone's things from bird houses to hinges in Sheetrock Hills. He literally picks up the phone and goes on the job. He also visits his neighbor and suspected love interest Kelly at her hardware store for supplies for these jobs. This is my knowledge of handymen these days. With that in mind, I naively thought getting a handyman out to repair some items in our condo would be easy. I was so fooled by Handy Manny and his tools: Rusty, Dusty, Stretch, Turner, Felipe, Squeeze, and Pat. I called and emailed a number of handymen in the city trying to get them out to do some minor fixes. Lakeshore Handyman were the first to email and call me back. They're my Handy Manny. One of their handymen was sent out around 8am just as my toddler and husband were heading to preschool drop off. My husband was able to explain the fixes that we needed while I got the baby down for his morning nap. Also worth noting, the handyman was a lot younger than I envisioned him being. I expected a cranky old handyman telling me about how good things were in the old days. Instead, we got a Hipster handyman whose easily within 5 years of age of my husband and I. After assessing the work, the handyman got to work while I tended to the house and a sleeping infant. He worked on a storm door and another problem. The storm door took the longest, but was done very well. After that, we haven't had any leak issues. For the second problem, he went to the hardware store to grab a needed supply just like Handy Manny does with Kelly's store. So, that part of Handy Manny is true. Handymen do go to the hardware store while on jobs for supplies! All in all, Lakeshore Handyman did a great job on the repairs. They were timely arriving and billing us for the work. If you're looking for a Handy Manny, these guys might just be it. read more

Being a landlord kinda sucks. My husband is handy and usually fixes all the stuff in our rental properties, but he's kinda tired of it. I was 40 weeks pregnant and my renters have another issue. Blah! I tried a few other handy man services first and they were way too expensive considering we could do the work ourselves, but were just not feelin' it. Anyway, I emailed Lakeshore and they got back to me ASAP with a great estimate. It was super easy to book them and I had my tenant let me in. He told me he would call if it would be more than 2 hours (the min). Good thing I hired them and had my tenant let them in, I had a baby that morning! I got a text from my renter saying everything was great and fixed and an invoice from Lakeshore Handyman in my inbox. Voila! I'll be calling them again for sure! I can't get them to respond to my emails or phone calls in August 2014. A few emails and a few phone calls. I wasn't being pushy but just trying to schedule an appointment. Sept update: I finally got in touch with them and one of the main guys was out of town explaining the communication problem. Grant came out and hung my microwave in no time. Made a trip to Menards to get electrical and was generally more affordable then the other handyman I was trying to get quotes from. I hope to use them again! read more

No complaints here about hiring Lakeshore Handyman. Our condo building and unit needed a few small repairs. I called several handyman services and Lakeshore were the first ones to return my call. Very easy to get scheduled. I also had a specific request that they not show up earlier than a certain time as I had a call I needed to be on. The guy (Steve?) showed up precisely on time, was courteous, efficient, and didn't make a mess--he was also respective about taking his shoes off/on when he came into our unit. Thanks to Yelp for another great referral. First, their pricing is great; many of the others I called that were listed on Yelp charge a fee for the handyman to just come out; that's on top of a fairly high hourly fee. No just come out fee for this company. Grant arrived on time, and got a huge amount accomplished in two hours. He cleaned up everything after his work, even taking my boxes out to the dumpster and cutting them up so they wouldn't take up all the room. He was polite, engaging and very easy to work with. Update! They have changed there schedule and will honor their appointment at 8 am on Monday 3.31.14. I will update again after service is performed. So due to great reviews and the fact we use them where I work in the city I decided to try them out. I e-mail them on Tuesday 3.25.14 at 1014 and they get back to me in a reasonable amount of time 1605 (same day) Tell me they can do it on Monday at 8am. 6 days from my request. OK no issues. I check and see if my wife can take the day off and she does. I get back to them 1846 still on the same day and say OK that is great do I need to supply anything. At 2255 same day they respond and say no we will provide supplies, please verify address and phone. (This info is in my emails already and it was provided in the initial communication. Next Morning Wednesday 3.26.14 I respond with my information AGAIN. At 835 they respond and say: Shoot. My partner just booked all of the guys for Monday and Tuesday. Would either Wednesday or Thursday (April 2 or 3) work for you? Really!!! Sure I am just hanging around all day!!! Wow thanks for nothing! I guess they may still be great if you have a super flexible schedule and they can show up whenever they feel like it! I will also encourage my place of business to stop using them and e-mail all 250 agents in my office this great experience! What a disappointment! read more

Everything about Lakeshore Handyman was great. They were referred to me by a friend that had hired them and was very happy. I've since hired them for my condo and for my condo association. Both times they were extremely pleasant, gave a quick estimate and they gave the best price of all the quotes in both cases. On one of the projects, they finished sooner than estimated and even fixed extra drywall damage that wasn't on the estimate without an additional charge. Had a big drywall project and a few other small fixes that needed to be done around the house. After having a few contractors come out to give estimates, and some hemming and hawing on my part, decided that Grant from Lakeshore Handyman was my guy. He was prompt, super friendly, knowledgeable, and knew exactly what needed to be done. He ended up taking care of the aforementioned drywall project (framing out a hole in the wall so my flat screen can hang flush with the wall), along with fixing a leaky faucet in the bathroom and a loose door jamb that was letting in cold air. I've had Lakeshore do stuff around my place five or six times, and it has always been a great experience. They've done a great job fixing water damage on ceilings and walls, installing a ceiling fan, putting in window-unit air conditioners solidly, so they don't have to be removed every summer, as well as fixing naggling little annoyances with my toilets and even painting our office... I've used Lakeshore Handyman several times over the past year or so and been satisfied. Ed is conscientious and the price is very reasonable. The problem, though, is scheduling. If you call to schedule an appointment, an outgoing voice message tells you to send an email. If you send an email, you wait. Maybe Jason gets back to you in a day, which is fine. Or maybe he gets back to you in four days. Or maybe you don't hear back at all. I emailed for an appointment a month ago and didn't get a response. So I tried again two weeks later. Grant is great to work with. He does quality work, and is very easy to talk to. He works quickly, communicates any problems quickly, and makes sure that we are satisfied with the job. He's very polite and his rates are reasonable. He goes above and beyond the call of duty, too. When we had him install a new air conditioner, we were wondering what to do with the heavy original one that we were replacing. He offered to take it home with him since he knew that if he placed it in his alley it would be scooped up quickly by metal scavengers. This was a huge help to us and we really appreciated it. It is incredibly hard to find a reliable, competent, and affordable handyman, which is why I was thrilled to find Lakeshore Handyman! They were very prompt with responding to my inquiry and scheduling a day/time for the service. They sent Todd to my home to remove/install a new garbage disposal and kitchen faucet. He was incredibly friendly, considerate (removed his shoes upon entry), and knowledgeable. They charge $50/hour with a minimum of two hours for each job. He was able to finish the project in the two-hour timeframe, including a trip to the store to purchase a new part. I was so impressed with the thoroughness with which he completed the job, and ecstatic at how affordable it was compared to other handymen I had requested estimates from (more than 50% cheaper than other handymen!). FYI they send you an invoice after the project rather than accept cash on the spot; they accept payment by Chase Quickpay or by check. I cannot speak highly enough about Lakeshore Handyman, their customer service, and Todd in particular. I recommend them with no reservations and will absolutely use them in the future if necessary. read more

i've never hired lakeshore handyman so i can't say anything about their work, all i can say is that i don't think they're trustworthy. i scheduled an appt with them by email (which is their preferred method). they got back to me within 24 hrs and communicated back and forth regularly. a few days before my scheduled appointment something came up so i had to reschedule. i emailed them. no response within 48hrs so i emailed again and called and left a message. still no response. they ended up just showing up at my door and of course i turned them away. they were probably hoping to get some business by just showing up. read more
