I hired upkeep to completely renovate my flooring and add wainscoting to the living room walls. I fully trusted in Robert's team to do the job and I continuously paid every time there was a change of bill. I never questioned materials or cost until the end I asked for an itemized bill for materials used and they became very defensive and told me in all their years of work they have never had to prove their purchases. During the project, once they instilled the floors in the kitchen, when I went to check it was very uneven. I could feel a massive area that dipped and I knew this was going to be an issue long term. Robert insisted that they would not redo this area and that this is just common with condo buildings. The flooring in my kitchen cracked not even a month into living there. My living room space has multiple scratches and holes everywhere. This is not normal for spending over $14,000 on flooring and labor. Moving on to wainscotting. When we agreed they would do the walls, he told me painting would be included and he would go over it twice. His team painted the walls for the first time and I Hated the color it was so yellow when everything was finished. I called and kindly asked him if he could go over it with a paint that we BOUGHT completely. He said yes. Kindly I thought we understood that we would not be charged since they had to go over it a second time anyway! AND WE BOUGHT the material of paint. But instead he blindly billed me another $600 without ever clarifying. Lastly, his team ripped off all my closet doors to get flooring into the closets. They did not take into account or gave a shit that they completely ripped open the holes in my ceiling to the point where all my closet doors have been hanging on by a thread all year after their project and now has come down and I need to find a way to re drill holes in different areas to get new doors up. The project from start to finish was a complete scam. The customer service was piss poor. I'm truly disappointed. Being a young girl in Chicago planning for my wedding trusting a company to remodel my room and dishing out OVER $20,000 that I wasn't expecting all for me to have to piss out more money to fix everything that went wrong is so disheartening. read more

We've gone through many contracts and although most were decent, I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend them to friends or family, but I TOTALLY would and do recommend Up Keep to everyone. I have used Up Keep for three major projects and will keep going back. Robert was referred by my friend and realtor with@properties. We had him fix up and update our floor, appliances, paint, and several other projects. We were thrilled with his communication. Therefore, we had him come to our new home (it was a foreclosure so we are tackling one project at a time) to fix the kitchen - tile floor, backsplash, and paint. It was a bit bigger project than originally envisioned because the builders didn't do stuff up to code. Robert and his crew did it right. We also had our balcony fixed up as it was summer and the best time to sand it down. Now we have them fixing a bathroom and I am in love with this work! (It helps that I love the new tile). For some reason my previous review has been removed so I am reposting it. I have never written a review on Yelp but felt it necessary after my experience with UpKeep. In summary, the worst customer experience in easily the last ten years. I was very surprised given the positive reviews and the recommendation from my real estate agent. Overall shoddy, unprofessional work of very basic stuff. Actual cost 2x initial estimate. I realize estimates are just that but 2x? When I attempted to address a few of the many problems I received a very sarcastic response via text. He also stated that he discounted his service. So I am supposed to believe that the real cost was 3x the estimate? I won't bore you with the full story but happy to share if interested. I received a follow up text this morning in a seeming attempt to backtrack from the rants from yesterday. I had to laugh. He highlighted how his work is 100% guaranteed and then also stated how "ALL payments are do [sic] upon completion". OK, I'm not quite sure what 100% guaranteed means if there is clearly zero chance I will ever use his services again and he is demanding payment in full. We are all in some type of customer facing business. I am clearly disappointed with the quality of work and I am absolutely shocked how he handled my concerns. we had called upkeep to fix a few things around our rental property and they were very quick to respond. there was a snafu and loss of communication, but we were able to schedule them to come out to fix a few things here and there. and because there was a loss of communication, they agreed to have Robert come out on saturday (which was an exception) for a short while. he was very friendly and professional over the phone when i explained to him what needed to be done. he did his job, left, and our tenants sent us an email that they were very pleased (and they are hard to please, believe me) with his work. we'll definitely be using them again! read more

Would not recommend! These guys did not prep the space. There was no regard for my personal property as previous contractors had covered areas with plastic to avoid dust. They removed tile and replaced in my foyer. They also removed the tile on my fireplace and replaced. The fireplace was a disaster as they did it over two days. The second day tile was put on and not only was it darker, but it's also raised. When I told Robert, he blamed the difference on temperature drop. It's been six months and the tile is considerably darker still and it looks terrible. They also left a mess in my garage and took of the door stoppers and never replaced. read more

I having been using Upkeep, Inc. for years for handyman services in my home and have always been pleased with their work. This last month, though, they really came to the rescue when we decided to sell a condo we had been renting out. When the renters left, the condo was a complete disaster. An unattended water problem had ruined the hard wood floors, the kitchen cabinets were so filthy I thought we'd have to replace them, there were closet doors off their hinges, all of the walls were filthy, and other problems, as well. Upkeep came in and now the place looks like new. I'm so relieved because I honestly thought that there was little hope that we would ever be able to sell the unit. I could not have been more unhappy with Upkeep. The quality of their work was horrible. I bought a house over the summer and they did a lot of work for me, but it soon became obvious that their workmanship was terrible. They splattered paint all over my new floors. All of the the electrical and plumbing work they did ended up not working and had to be redone by professionals. Overtime a lot of the work they did has had to be repaired, because they cut corners and only tried to make look cosmetically good while structurally most of their work was poor. I've spent several thousands of dollars having their work repaired so far, and i am finding new things everyday. Robert, was very difficult to deal with...constantly asking me to pay upfront for work that hadn't been done. When i finally fired him, he was very aggressive towards me. I would advise that you AVOID Robert and Upkeep at all cost! read more

I purchased an old house that needed plenty of updating. I called Up Keep and the woman I spoke with was great in helping set up an appointment to have Robert come out and give me an estimate. Upon excepting their bid, I was thrilled with the outcome. My bathroom now looks and feels AMAZING! It no longer feels like an old house, but more like a more modern updated home. They just did an outstanding job of recaulking my shower and they painting and restaining of my front door that they did is getting rave reviews from my neighbors. Beware. The presentation by Up Keep is smooth and upbeat but think twice before considering this contractor. They were contracted to install a new kitchen floor and it remains unfinished weeks later. There are thirty-three tiles in the center of the floor and only six tiles have grout around four sides. The original floor was installed directly on the subfloor in 1985 and there was no missing grout around the tile. The following day after completing the new floor, with an additional layer of Durock over the subfloor, open gaps appeared with no grout present. They did return one week later to "fix" the problem and the following morning more open gaps appeared with no grout. The grout turned to powder and flaked away. It is now two months later and Up Keep has not provided a solution to complete the floor and does not respond to calls. After years of working with contractors, Up Keep is the only contractor that does not stand behind their work. Look elsewhere for someone to work on your home. read more

I had an emergency; my roof was leaking from the weather and this guy came over to give me an estimate which was an amazing price and he took care of the insurance jibber jabber claim adjuster ( enough said insurance adjuster but hey thats another review :) ) so Rob took care of all of the nonsense the adjuster needed. the job got done in 1 week and I was able to get other items done that I had procrastinated with of course that was a separate job cost but it was an amazing experience. I paid Upkeep, Inc 552$ on June 25th (ish) to purchase 5 door handles and then install them in my home. I was told it would take up to 5 weeks for the merchandise to arrive. I emailed them 4-5 weeks later, asking for an update. I was told that the shipment had been lost in transit and that replacement handles were ordered. Why did they not reach out to me to inform me of this? I emailed them 4-5 weeks later to ask again about where my product was. It took them multiple weeks to respond to me. At this point, i was fed up with their utter lack of communication and asked them to return the product and refund me. It took them one month to do this. I had to badger them with constant emails to get them to refund me. They felt the pettiness to charge me the 49$ it cost them to return the merchandise, after 3 months of horrible communication and taking 4-5 days to respond to any email I sent them to ask what was going on. Do not ever work with this company. They are unable to communicate or deal with customer complaints. They will not refund you in full after taking a month to do so. They do not answer emails in any kind of timely manner. They do not think you deserve to know when the product you paid them for months prior gets lost. They argue with you when you tell them that they are doing a poor job. read more
