It was fascinating! Looking through the front window, I had to go in and look at the chocolate wares, the chocolates on the shelves looked delicious. Guess what, they were! I was intrigued by the interior, it reminded me of an old west shop. Meeting the owner we decided to sit and have some wine, which was delightfully paired with a chocolate. Let me tell you, it was "sweet" no pun intended. The owner and I started conversing and it was like an episode from the discovery channel. The building was over 100 years old and the shop has been in chocolate business for over a hundred years. We discussed a bit of Haverstraws brick history, the geography, the roads. It was really a good time. I saw a small stage and was informed they had Kareoke, for me that's an amazing invite to sing. Well, I came back it was one special night Wine chocolates and songs What an incredible combination! Look if your into history, if your into chocolates this is definitely the spot. But if you can sing too, don't miss it Come as you are and celebrate a gem in haverstraw

We were actually in town for sightseeing my childhood stomping grounds. And my wife wanted to see two places my mother talked about... the brick museum and Lucas Candy store. We went on a rainy Sunday, but had a great experience. The streets were closed down for a festival with food and shows. There were vendors on the street and the restaurants were also serving food on the street. We headed to Lucas' sat down for music and drinks. I had a beer with a complimentary paired chocolate and my wife had a frozen hot chocolate, it was super, service was excellent and fast, and they had an outstanding musician playing solo. I think the owners do a great job, both were present, talkative, and friendly. We hit the brick museum and came back to Lucas' to shop. We got Christmas gifts out of the way. They have a very creative and tempting selection of candy. Alcohol is expensive everywhere, but the chocolate prices are very fair here. I hope for their continued success. They have a nice location with lots of good restaurants nearby. We'll be ordering online, but if we're ever back in town, this is on our bucket list.

Paid $189 for a small cake with too much black fondant that turned everyone's mouth and teeth…read moreblack. Words were made with a cricut and flimsy paper with no backing. Alexis also requested to change the pick-up time by 2 hours at the last minute, causing me to change my kids' schedules, and then showed up 20 minutes late with no apology. But the WORST was that Alexis forgot to add my husband's (the birthday boy's) favorite part, the vanilla custard filling. So the disappointment was felt all around. I would not even be leaving this review, however, if Alexis had taken accountability for her mistake and offered a small refund (I asked for 25% of the cost which I believe is more than fair.) Alexis referred to her "no refund "statement on the invoice and refused to make this right (read below). This was an overall uncomfortable and disappointing experience. Alexis is obviously still learning a lot about cake decorating and business. You decide if you want your special occasion affected by someone who unfortunately lacks skills in these areas. Me: Hi, thank you for the beautiful cake. I was surprised though, after cutting into it, there was no vanilla custard or pudding. I believe that was what we agreed on and was on the invoice. Alexis: Good evening I truly apologize for not having filling in the cake. Yes, you are correct it is in the invoice. I had a few orders and I definitely could have missed it. I am very sorry for mistake. Please accept 25% off your next order as my sincerest apologies. I hope the cake was still enjoyable? Me: I had already told everyone it was going to have a filling so unfortunately there was a sense of disappointment when it was served. I appreciate the future order coupon but I really feel like some money should be refunded for this cake. To me, that would be the appropriate approach. Alexis: I am sorry to hear that. I don't offer refunds as noted in the estimate and invoice. For this time I will extend the refund of $10 for the filling not being added as this is the charge for the filling. I was hoping to offer a greater discount and better experience for the future. Me: $10 is unacceptable. For a $189 cake that was made wrong, I expect appropriate reparations. Essentially, I did not receive what I paid for, and you refunding me the cost for an ingredient is insulting and a failure to recognize the disappointment and embarrassment my guests and I experienced because of your mistake. In order to make this right, I would expect a minimum of 25% back from the original invoice. Out of respect for small business owners, I have not published my concerns online, however, I do expect good customer service. I hope you will reconsider the situation and make the appropriate reparations. Alexis: Good morning Barbara, I understand the inconvenience and disappointment caused and I apologize. Correct I acknowledged the filling was missing from my mistake. I charge $10-15 for fillings which is why I extended the cost of the missing portion of the order. 95% of the cake was completed as ordered with the addition of the macarons I made as well. There are no refunds and this is stated in estimate and invoice provided. I do apologize for the vanilla pudding filling to have not been added and have offered the refund for the charge of the filling as well as 25% off a future order. Me: Well it's unfortunate that I have to make this public and I do hope in time you take a little more pride in your customer service. Also, when you request to change the pick up time, it's best practice to show up on time or at least apologize if you are running late.
