My wife was in Haverstraw earlier today and knows how much I like tres leches cake. She stopped by Vilma's Bakery and picked me up a slice. She also got a couple of dulce de leche cookies for our daughters. She told me that they had a nice selection of desserts and the workers were nice. I waited until after dinner to enjoy the cake. It ended up being a perfect dessert. One of the best tres leches cake slices I've had. The cake was tender and perfectly moist from the three "milks". The icing was tasty, the "milks" themselves had a nice flavor to them. (Perhaps some warm spices) A very enjoyable dessert. My daughters really enjoyed the cookies as well. The prices were very reasonable. I will certainly return to Vilma's Bakery! read more

Had I not gone to the Haverstraw food crawl today, I'd never have know about this wonderful bakery. It was packed with people and goodies, and after tasting the treats I brought home, I know why! It's not only a sweet bakery but savory too. Empanadas, kipe (I think that's how it's spelled), cakes, cookies, flan, meringues, even fresh juices - and all of it very reasonably priced. The young lady that helped me was so patient, explained everything to me and answered any questions I had. It was definitely worth the wait and I can't wait to go back. The workers are incredibly rude and nasty when you noted their mistakes. Certainly had hard time with customer service and admitting their incapacity of doing a simple cake. Used canned fruit when paid for natural fruit. Cheap products and nasty attitudes. What a way to ruin a celebration. read more

I want to start out by saying that my family has had many terrible experiences with this bakery. From receiving a cake with the wrong name/and flavoring to failing at what they said would be a simple design. However, I decided to give this bakery a chance myself- which resulted in being a mistake. I will say that I wasn't the one to personally pick the cake up due to me being states away and not flying in till the following day. When two of my family members arrived to receive the cake and after asking to see it, they were absolutely shocked at the atrocity they saw. Unfortunately, they were not able to speak up in the moment and express the frustration felt. The customer service provided by the manager was subpar. After stating and showing everything wrong with the cake and expressing how unsatisfied and disappointed we were with the cake, I requested a refund. The manager stated they would just be able to provide store credit. With all the chances I/my family has given this bakery and being dissatisfied-we will not be returning. The bakery is super cute and welcoming. I picked up my birthday cake and absolutely fell in love with what it looked like. When we got home and cut into it, it was so fresh and delicious. Tired of this place. Been coming here for years and the quality get's worse every time. I'ts unfortunate, that the last three times I ordered some pinapple cakes and other goodies, they were old. How embarrassing, you're buying some treats for friends and when they go to eat it, It's not even fresh. It's even more of a disappointment that each time I came here, it was a 40 minute drive to get some garbage, because that's what it was. Shame on me for coming back three more times. Sometimes you just wanna support, but i believe their passion for this business, died years ago. I hope you get it together, but I won't ever know because you will never see me again. Every year every event that I have, I always get my cake for them the customer service is amazing

I was planning a baby shower and given that I live in the city, I had to order something closer to the restaurant and this place seemed like the perfect spot. I first called to make sure that they could take my business , since I was only able to go in person 2 days before the event to order the cake. They said fine. When I went to order the cake the young lady Judy was very nice and accommodating, I looked at pictures, and chose a simple 2 tier cake with no frills, some flowers, booties, and gold ribbon around each tier to match the booties. I also asked that the filling be sufficient as in my experience, some people like to skimp. I ordered caramel and pineapple. I told her to please have the cake ready on Saturday at 9am since we were having a brunch baby shower at 11:30am. Well when we got the cake was still not ready. We had to wait around at least another 15 minutes or so. Now we had to rush out of the store since we were running late to the restaurant. As we are driving miles away, I realized that they had missed some of the details that I had requested on the cake. No ribbons, colors were off, and the cake's wasn't a soft blush but baby pink. I was disappointed. I paid $130 and these simple and few details weren't done correctly. I called them back to complain and they literally had nothing to say except come back and we will fix it. You already had me running late and now I need to come back to fix a cake. No can do. They didn't offer nothing in return for their mistakes. In my opinion, this is their professional place of business. They didn't pay attention to the details and also didn't offer any form of compensation. Needless to say, when I tasted the cake it was dry and the filling was barely there. I wouldn't ever order a Dominican cake from this place again. read more

The reason they gave me that the cake was eaten and not returned when I live an hour away was the worst excuse to not give me my full refund. Came here with the wife based on my colleagues opinion on the best Dominican dessert spot in Rockland county. So we rolled in and got a tres leches cake and the price of it was about 28 bucks a bit steep. I thought to myself this cake better melt in my mouth and be worth every fart( I am lactose intolerance) and every dollar. So when I cut a piece of that cake it was so damn moist and the flavor was just on point. My wife liked it alot and even asked why didn't we pack some to go home. Placed an order for my 2 year old's birthday a week prior to the pick up day, when I called the day before to get an update on the cake they said they had no idea who I was or any record of my order. Mind you I had sent in pictures and everything to the number they provided. They said they could have my cake done by the following day, I called in that Saturday morning and again they had no record of my order. I asked for a simple square cake dulce de leche filling, with a simple picture printed and a "happy birthday" written on it. When I asked to speak to a manager or to Vilma herself, all she said to me was that they could give me a cake by Sunday. My child's birthday party was that Saturday, why would I need a cake for the day after. Well, after explaining to her that I had called multiple times, they then proceeded to give me a round cake with a happy b-day sign on it, they still charged the full price as if they had given me the other cake that I wanted. What was worst is the fact that they gave me the cake they have for show, you know the old one that's by the display window. They couldn't even give me a recently baked one, or at least the right shape. Either way it's not like they care, I complained to the manager, the people at the front desk, the owner and they didn't care at all. This bakery is the worst and extremely unprofessional!! My sister ordered a cake for her birthday weeks in advance that was not correctly made and instead of apologizing the owner was placing blame on everybody except himself. The owner never took responsibility for inconveniencing my sister who had given them a photo of what the cake should look like. The owner just shrugged his shoulders and said nonsense. Claiming my sister said things she never requested. At the end of it all a bakery aid apologized after I said there wasn't one given. This place is bad, the unprofessionalism is incomprehensible. I don't now how a place like this stays in business, don't' go here!!! Your better off spending money at places worth the money. read more
