Ignore the negative reviews. This is as good as food gets. I spotted this place on my daily walk and my wife took me there for my birthday. I ordered the ribs and my wife the Peking style chicken. Here are my reviews: 1. The ribs were the best pork ribs I have ever had. Normally I prefer beef ribs because they are meatier but these were the biggest, most tender pork ribs I have ever had. And there were 6 of them! I could only eat four and I am known as a big eater. If you like ribs you will love these. 2. The peanut slaw was delicious and the portions was HUGE, about four times larger than you usually get as a side. I could only eat half. 3. The garlic noodles were delicious but not overly garlicky. 4. There was no dessert on the menu but Diana had made two. We had a lemon/berry compote with pastry wafers separating the lemon from the berry compote and layered with real whipped cream. It was the perfect mixture of sweet, tart, creamy and crunchy. It looked huge when served but it was so light it never felt too sweet or heavy. I cannot say enough nice things about Diana, who was hostess, waitress and cashier. It's true she wasn't waiting on us hand and foot but she was always nearby and we got everything we asked for right away. She even made an amuse bouche with a soy egg, sauce and vegetables that was delightful. Diana and Scott are extremely dedicated to making excellent food from the best ingredients and that is what matters. A lot of things, such as getting water or silverware are self serve to cut down on the staff work load so don't get bent out of shape if you don't have everything brought on a silver platter. I love this place already! I normally hate coleslaw, but I could eat a vat of their coleslaw. Their ribs were great -- very juicy and flavorful. And the BBQed flat bread had a nice char and was well seasoned. Just as a heads up, they're doing a soft open right now, so they don't have all the menu items. Their food is good. You can definitely tell that the chef has been to culinary school and has retained some good skills (not perfect, though). But there are more to a restaurant than just decent food (that should be expected anyway). First, the place offers "ZERO" parking. The lot next door has big sign that clearly states "No parking for Laquered" along with threats of towing, etc. Also, Long Beach in general has very little street parking, but this place has "ZERO". So, basically, you have to take a risk parking wherever you can and hope your ass don't get towed. I just parked in the lot next door figuring a takeout order shouldn't take that long (I was proven wrong later). Anyway, I made my way to the restaurant, and walked up to the counter. The young lady there was very friendly and helped me to pick out my order. I got the bbq ribs, cole slaw with peanut dressing and garlic noodles...you can definitely see some Southeast Asian influence in their menu. All that was great and a very pleasant experience.....until she told me the damage: right under $25. I had sticker shock for a second, but I just whipped out the ol' Visa and sucked it up. I was told the wait will be around 10 to 15 minutes, so, I thought I'd better go back to the car to make sure I don't get towed....good thing I did. The wait turned out to be 25 minutes. When I finally got the food, it came in a large, flimsy cardboard box...I burned rubber home. When I opened the box at home, things looked pretty good (but they forgot my free Yelp cookie), and I dug right in. I actually didn't expect the ribs to be as good it was. Them 'cue sticks could've been dished out of some shack in da 'hood served to you from behind bulletproof glass. The garlic noodles and peanut dressing coleslaw were both, obviously, of Asian origin and had good flavor, but leaned on the heavy side. The flatbread that it came with was exceptionally good. So, I really don't have too much to complain about the food itself, but was it a $25 experience? All I can tell you is that I have no plans of going back, and they actually have other stuff I'd really like to try. But when you consider all the parking headaches, and prices like $16 for Poutine, $12 for Popcorn Chicken, & $16 for Chicken Sandwich, I could think of 10 other places I'd rather go right away. Maybe if they fixed the parking situation, and knocked down 20% from their prices, I might walk up on their counter once again... read more

Delicious homemade clean food! The chicken breast and wing were juicy and tender. Had the veggie medley side that was super delicious!!! Also tried the rib feast and WOW! Those bbq ribs are to die for!!! So glad I finally made it in to Lacquered!!! read more

I came in at 10pm on Friday night and there was a table available for immediate seating; I ordered the special blackened chicken platter but was told only soy chicken left so i got that. It came with garlic noodles and coleslaw, and apparently pickled vegetables by looking at the blackboard but i didn't get any. Everything tasted yummy, i wanted more noodles they were great. Only issue i had was it took 45 minutes to bring my food out when i could see the chicken sitting in a hotbox behind the cashier. Coleslaw and noodles can be prepared in mass since each customer is getting the same thing so it should have only taken 10-15 minutes tops to plate. I was overly hungry when i arrived and was starting to leave without my food when she came out with it. I was so hungry i just picked up the chicken with my hands and gobbled it up, then went to work on the noodles and coleslaw with silverware, there was a ton of coleslaw, enough for two but i managed to put it away. Hope they get a little more organized and make this business a success. read more

I vote Lacquered to be on the Foods Network. The food is so great with two awesome chefs ( owners hard at work). This place requires 3 different occasions to try everything out ( crispy chicken tacos, poutine, ribs, Cesar salad, lacquered chicken and the custom dumplings are a must try. read more

This place is fantastic! I almost don't want anyone else to know about this hidden gem. The owners/Chefs really have a love for the food. The food was amazing. This is not a fast food place. We had the Mac n cheese, popcorn chicken and blackened chicken with garlic noodles. The garlic noodles were some of the best I had. The Mac n cheese was again some of the best. However, the reason for deducting a star is because of the so called blackened chicken. They claim to go through a painstaking process of preparing the chicken, however, I didn't taste the effort. The only flavor I could taste was the barbecue sauce it had on it. If you are going to call it blackened, the chicken would have to bold spices cooked in an cast iron skillet at a high temperature. Had linner here today with my daughter and girlfriend. We shared the poutine, popcorn chicken, and garlic noodles- huge portions and the best food I think I have ever eaten! The place itself is super cute, and the most friendly cashier and owners! They all went above and beyond (helped make suggestions, showed my daughter some miniature farm she can play with while we ordered,etc) and that just added more to the experience. Food definitely had flavor and was very good. Would recommend trying this place rather than going to a regular chain restaurant. Food may not be quick to get out as they take their time to make quality food but it is worth it. The only thing is that my pita bread was a salty (I prefer plain) and the beans were a tad bit not as soft, maybe another 5 min on the stove would have done it. Food was great! Tea was refreshing, portions were huge, shop was cute. The service arrangement was a little confusing. We ordered at the counter but there was still some table service (The waiter filled drink cups for us from the self service bar). Though he seemed kinda annoyed doing it. My husband and I visited for the first time last night - we are in trouble now because Lacquered is within walking distance from our apartment! Delicious food - the garlic noodles are fantastic! My partner and I showed up with our puppy about a half hour before closing, and the owner couldn't not have been sweeter to us. Not knowing anything about this place and being new to the area, we didn't know what a true gem we had discovered. There was only two of us, but we ordered with the intent of taking home leftovers. The spicy taco salad with pork belly and Avo was out of this world, and the Coleslaw with the mustard base was an unexpected smasher. I thought Raising Canes had chicken tenders mastered but DAMN was I proved wrong. I have never tasted a crispier, juicer piece of chicken. Finally though, the true star to the show was the Mac And Cheese. This next comment may earn some weird looks, but neither my partner or I are big fans of Mac And Cheese. As a Certified Cheese Professional and someone that has been working within the world cheese market professionally for the last 10 years, I generally stay away from restaurant Mac and Cheese as its, well, boring.. and generally something that is bland, plain, and quite frankly a children's dish. After tasting this MNC, I was shook. I was shocked at myself that I kept going back for more and more. Not sure on the cheese blend.. If I had to guess, with no tyrosine present and how long the cheese "pull" was I would say it's a blend of young to medium aged American cheddar as well as young Swiss emmental. I am a rotisserie chicken connoisseur and this is probably one of the best chicken spots I've been to. With a Vietnamese influence to top it off. Both of my favorites! I have many good things to say about yelp and a couple of, hopefully, helpful criticisms. First, the food is excellent,,my wife and I shared a quarter chicken plate. The chicken was the star -juicy and tender 8nside with a lovely lacquered skin. Some people have criticized the cost of such a meal (about $17), but it came with lots of sides, including garlic noodles, Market slaw pickled vegetables and bread and dipping sauce. All of these were generous portions and all were delicious. So I think talk of being too pricey is nonsense. We also had the poutine as an appetizer but you could almost call it an entree it was so generous. The dessert (sticky toffee pudding) was also wonderful. Second the space was large and nicely decorated. No white table cloths but who needs them? Third, the staff was friendly, which leads to my first criticism. 1, the chef could clearly hear everything that was going on at the front counter but she shouldn't be breaking off to get "to go" boxes for customers - that's the hostess/front counter person's job. She also shouldn't be conducting on the job training on macaroon presentation. 2. If you are going to change your hours, that should be immediately reflected in your website and/or Facebook page. It's my understanding (and experience) that they are no longer open Thursdays but you STILL wouldn't know that from their FB page. Also, it's not good business to not open on Saturday without warning (also my experience) 3. I know I'm acting against my best interests but the portion size for the dessert is WAY too much for the price being charged - it served as three desserts in our house. Hope this helps. To quote my husband, "It's like Kitchen Nightmares." We came on a Friday night and the place was pretty full. After ordering to-go, we were told we'd have a 20-25 minute wait, which is completely reasonable. After waiting for 50 minutes, we and the customers around us were told that our food had not yet been started and that they were still working on the orders ahead of us. They told us they didn't know how much longer our food would take and offered us a refund, which we took. I respect what this restaurant is trying to do with their food but when the hostess informed the chef that we were asking for a refund, she exclaimed, "Great!" I wasn't sure how to take that. The kicker was that when we asked for the refund, we had to wait again for the chef to come and cancel it herself during which time we were never acknowledged or offered an apology. I get that she was having a bad day, but acknowledging customers would be, at the minimum, a civil thing to do. No, this place doesn't offer fast food but it also doesn't seem to function effectively or offer much customer service. read more

Lacquered is a hidden gem tucked in between Belmont Shore and Bluff Park. This store is run by two incredible chefs who have an amazing rhythm when it comes to service and communication during the preparation and serving of food. The open-kitchen allows you to see all the love that goes into your food. If you love charcuterie boards, this is the place to go. Two house-made breads (one chewy, and one crunchy) and house-made crackers are served alongside figs, dates, grapes, strawberries, cherries, apricots, a balsamic jelly, cantaloupe, and three cheeses with the charcuterie plate. Tack on another $5 for prosciutto, sausage, olives, pickles, another type of cheese... and I'm sure I'm forgetting something else from this extensive list. The chefs also gave us a thorough explanation of the items included in the cheeseboard and provided us extra bread in case we ran out. Meticulous attention to detail and great service. read more

Overall a nice place with a interesting vibe. The girl who helped us was very nice and helpful with the menu, which might be complicated for some. This is not a fast food place, so getting your food will definitely take some time. We were told our food would take 25 minutes; however it took 40 minutes and it was given to the wrong people. So what they did was take that plate back from the wrong customers, removed the bread, and gave the plate to us. Usually if something like that happens, the customer should be offered an entirely new dish. I didn't make an issue due to the fact that it would have taken another 30-40 minutes to get a new plate. The place was not very busy, however the employees seemed busy; nonetheless it would have been appreciated if the chef came out and apologized for the misunderstanding. Will come again to give the restaurant another shot as the food profile is interesting. read more
