I am new to the city - an Aussie abroad and nearly shelled out double what I paid here at the competition but Lacquer caught my eye and thought I would try it. So so so impressed. Light, airy, sparkly clean. Fun decor. Comfortable chairs. Nice foot bowls to soak - none of those nasty bug breeding hydro spa baths. All the nail instruments were sterilised or single use. You might have gathered I am super fussy about foot and nail hygiene and this place won me over big time. Huge range of colours. Jessica did the best pedicure on me - great tidy up, decallous, massage and colour application. She was easy company, gentle, careful with my cuticles and always checked things were OK. I really loved the cushy chairs and the total ambiance of the whole place. The girls doing our nails were incredibly nice and it was a great way to relax and enjoy girl talk, but I've had just as good or better mani/pedis around town for a fraction of the price. My gel nails already look worn after only a few days, so I'm not particularly thrilled with how long it's lasting. So if it's socializing you want and are willing to pay for it, this is your place. read more

I was a little disappointed with this place because I reached out to see if they could host a group of women for a bachelorette party and I was extremely happy they were accommodating to our group... however, when we arrived they seemed taken aback by us being there. They were not welcoming at all. The woman I spoke to on the phone said they would have mimosas ready for us and then they said they didn't have any when we arrived. We also had a whole schedule for all the women but we waited 20 minutes after the start time and they still hadn't seated us to get our nails done. They also never asked us if anyone wanted nail art when I made the appointment and acted like it was an inconvenience when we said the bride wanted nail art. The lady who did her gel manicure said she did not know how to do marble nail art... weird considering their Instagram showcases practically only marble nails. I really loved my individual manicurist. She was extremely friendly! The rest of the staff just did not seem happy to have us there at all. Even the owner seemed displeased. You would think they would congratulate the bride-to-be and would also be happy for the influx of business we were bringing to their nail salon. Instead we were met with confusion and strange attitudes. I don't know why they advertise on their website about group parties when they don't seem to be happy when the group arrives. There were only 2 customers in there when we got there so it didn't make a lot of sense why it was so frustrating for them. Everyone had a great time because we are a fun group but when we left everyone talked about how unwelcome they felt which isn't so good to hear as the maid of honor who organized it. Not to mention...We went on Thursday (4 days ago) and my gel manicure chipped. I have NEVER had gel chip before. I had a great experience at lacquer downtown. I parked in the Austin City Hall garage and they were able to validate parking. Leah at the front desk helped me pick out a lilac color that I liked. Tutu was great and tried on all the colors in the same family to make sure it was the one I wanted. It was a very relaxing experience. I have been to this location twice and their location in North Austin three times. All of my experiences, until recently, have been positive. I love the almond-scented products that they use and the vast selection of high-end polishes! Last weekend I booked three deluxe pedicures for myself and family in town. I was really excited to take them to Lacquer because it is a beautiful salon and I have had great experiences when I booked mid-day appointments. The three pedicures, however were the last appointments before closing and it showed. Two of the three nail techs rushed through the service in order to begin closing the salon. The third tech was late to the appointment. I paid $50 for a 60-minute service and our techs were done after 30 minutes. They made it seem like a courtesy to us so that we could have the rest of our evening free, but we had in no way indicated that we needed to leave before our appointment was supposed to end. My nails do look great, but I believe you pay more at a place like Lacquer to have a relaxing spa-like experience. I was disappointed this past weekend and doubt I will return. read more

I will not be going back to Lacquer. For an almost $70 manicure, I expect the service to match the price. Both times I've been in, my nails look great, however the staff has been indifferent bordering on rude to me. My nail technician used one of the wrong colors for my nails and didn't bother to really check with me, but at that point I wasn't going to ask her to stop and start over, especially since she had said a total of maybe 4 words to me at that point. Also, I had to correct the staff at the checkout because I had been charged for "detailed" nail art, when I was told all they could offer was the "simple" nail art. Gloria is a fantastic nail technician! My nails were embarrassingly rough when I came to her and she did a thorough (and gentle!) removal of my previous nail work. It's a little pricey, but I chose the IBX service in addition to my manicure and she did a great job of explaining its importance as well as giving me tips for strengthening my nails for future visits. Booked two appointments together for me and a friend for my 30th birthday. Hadn't had the chance to visit the location but had seen glowing reviews on social media (come on - they have an adorable set-up inside). I like the change to the traditional vibrating chair/foot tub combo. This feels more like you're relaxing in oversized lounge chairs while chatting with friends. They're very busy on weekends - so the gal doing my nails got held up by a client who wasn't satisfied with her nail art detail but she came over and apologized, got us fresh drinks and got to work. She even made up time since she knew we had other appointments. Both our toes/nails are perfect (no bubbles, no chips, dings, etc). The only only only draw back to the space is the parking options. On the weekend the biggest lot closest by has an 8hr minimum and is $13. You could get lucky with street parking - but it is downtown Austin... read more

Once I walked into this salon, I noticed immediately how clean the facility is in addition to being very well ventilated. I normally expect chemical odors from any nail salon, so having walked in without even a slight smell made a great impression on me. TuTu was very helpful in choosing the best color for me and he was very meticulous with his work. During the drying period, I accident smudged my polish while reaching for my wallet in my purse. However, the staff was so nice about it and immediately had it fixed. Overall, I received excellent customer service and would definitely come back. read more

A little disappointed in my last visit to Lacquer - I came in with my friend for her Christmas gift and her nails ended up looking great, but mine, not so much. They chipped later that same afternoon and as soon as I left, I could tell that she didn't get the polish all the way on my nail. I honestly feel like I could have painted my nails better and made them last longer. The technician wasn't friendly either - I really don't think she ever spoke a word. My mom and I went for a relaxing girls afternoon got mani and pedi well the experience was awful! Y'all can go check my history. I never write reviews for places. Only once have I been moved to do so because the service was so great. Now, I find myself on the opposite end of the spectrum, writing a review because the service was so terrible. Let me preface by saying the actual technicians were great. One was exceptionally amazing in terms of skill & service, one started off a little standoffish but warmed up as our situation got more absurd. My complaints lie with the woman who mans the front desk, the lack of transparency on prices, and the overall terrible service. It started fine, 2 of our 3 person reservation got there early, & the salon was empty so I didn't quite understand why they wouldn't let me book more than three when I called. I understand maybe only three technicians were available but for a salon with a capacity of 5+, it seems odd to limit the # of customers. The first 2 of us pick out our colors and we sit down to start. I inform the technician that I have NexGen dipping powder nails. She immediately puts a look of disdain on her face, and says she's not sure she has the equipment to remove it. I told her that I had been doing NexGen nails for months and the only thing you need to remove is acetone and a file. She says "we'll see" and begins to complain about how long it'll take. Spoiler alert: the polish came off just fine and in about the same amount of time as a gel removal. The third party member arrives & she has a gel removal (a service I booked ahead of time) & my friend was told she had to wait because the only technician available was allergic to gel and couldn't touch it or be in the room while it was being removed. I almost started to laugh at this. I mean, congratulations on overcoming that hardship of an allergy to achieve your dreams, but maybe don't work in a nail salon if you're allergic to one of the most popular services there? Either way, my friend waited for 20 minutes, then my technician got up because she said it would take 10 minutes for the acetone to sit in before she could remove my polish. She disappeared into the back. I asked the front desk lady if she could remove my friend's polish while I'm not being worked on. This girl gave me some haughty, vague answer about how that violates their safety standard to work on two people at once, and that the other woman can't come out because she's allergic. At this point we keep stressing how we BOOKED gel so why would we get a technician assigned who's allergic? Instead of maybe apologizing for the obvious mixup she stood firm on how absurd we were being for being upset. Finally the technician comes out and agrees to remove the gel. A miracle. By the time my friend gets started on having her polish removed, the second person in our party is DONE with her manicure. So we ask if this technician can do our friends nails because she still wants gel. At first the front woman says no, but the technician overhears & agrees to do it. Then we find out parking isn't validated after 5pm. The woman says it's on the website. No apology. No expression of empathy over the inconvenience. Just a snippy response. Go to the website. It's not clearly advertised. Also mind you at no point were we offered a drink. We had to ask. Then the bill comes. They charged 30 DOLLARS for an "acrylic removal". I told them NexGen nails weren't technically acrylic, they require the same removal as a gel. Didn't matter. They also charge you for a gel removal. You know, everything that comes standard elsewhere. We asked for an itemized receipt because the total ($155 for three manicures) seemed absurdly high. The woman at the front snidely shakes her head, scrunching her face, and says she can send it to the email if that works. Hard to describe the level of condescension but my mouth dropped at her tone. It was like she simply didn't give a f*** about our experience or making sure we left happy. Maybe something was going on in her life to make her act this way, or maybe she simply thinks she's too good for her job. My friend who has been multiple times believes it to be the latter. Then on top of that, they start to close up the salon while we're still getting our service. Music is off, and they start vacuuming the floor and seats. I'm sorry, did I not just pay $155 to be pampered and to feel relaxed? I understand 7:30 might be late but you should wait for your customers to leave before just shutting down shop like that. I kid you not my time at lacquer was just a series of events that made my jaw drop I went to lacquer because I follow their instagram & wanted to treat myself. I justified the higher price expecting STELLAR service. What I got was condescension & some of the worst service I've ever received from any industry. If you want a GREAT manicure for a normal price go to Luxe Nail on Burnet. For the past 8 months I have only gone there, & I made a huge mistake in straying. I set up my appt a day in advance since I was flying in for a wedding. Found an appointment that worked with their availability. The space is modern and chic. The manicurist and pedicurist were very pleasant and nice to speak to. Double kudos for getting me done at the same time! Also... I left my charger there, checked in the following morning and they were holding it for me. Fabulous find!! I love the place I go to regularly but found myself in dire need before I returned home to Chicago. What I found at Lacquer has me rethinking my nail salon at home! The polish selections are as beautiful as the atmosphere yet somehow they still keep a low-key vibe. The nail technicians were incredible and clearly know what they're doing. Could not have been any nicer - found myself sitting there and relaxing instead of my usual race out the door because I was "mostly" dry. This place is totally adorable. I'm visiting Austin for business and I didn't have time to do my nails before leaving. My polish was chipping off and I was so embarrassed and urgently needed to get my nails done. I called them up and they were able to squeeze me in same day. So if I had written this review a couple visits ago, it would not have been as positive. I went in a few times and was not very impressed with the service, it was just okay and not worth going downtown. One time I visited with my friend and my friend had a service with Marz. She has been back several times and loves going for Marz. So my third visit I finally booked an appointment with her and I can see what the hype was about! The massage for my pedicure (my favorite part) was incredible and she did an excellent job smoothing my feet and shaping everything. Plus she is a joy to talk to. I am now going to be back, just asking for Marz each time. read more
