We spent the weekend in Williamsburg staying at the Quality Inn next door. I pulled up this restaurant on Yelp and after reading the reviews decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! We're fans of Tex Mex and this place was perfect. All of our food was fresh, hot and served quickly. Our waitress was delightful and the prices can't be beat! read more

Delicious dinner, ridiculously reasonable prices and portions that meant left overs to look forward to for lunch for most of our table. Incredibly friendly wait staff and pleasant atmosphere. Great vegetarian selection and corn-based tortilla chips for those gluten conscious. Wonderful hidden gem, tucked off the road in a touristy area. Worth making a tradition when you come to colonial Williamsburg and want something other than period cuisine. read more

Do get the guacamole! Everything was good except the guac! Sad that one thing can ruin the experience, but really?? I've had better guac that was rotten and gave me the squirts. This stuff was horrible. read more

Take it from a San Diegan who has eaten some Mexican (if u know what I mean) ...this place is the real deal. Swift service, tasty cuisine, extensive menu (to include vegetarian), tip-top margaritas, very clean. Don't let the facade fool you. Try the lime and cilantro chicken...you're welcome. Go Chargers! read more

By far the best Mexican food this southern California born boy has had on the East Coast. There raspberry margarita with actual raspberry liquor instead of flavoring was amazing, I heartily recommend it. We visited at seven on a Saturday night and it was full but didn't have any problem getting a table read more

Meh. It was mediocre food. Service was good though. If you need a Mexican fix it might do.

We ordered takeout from here while on vacation. It was fantastic! Very authentic. Definitely a place where the locals eat. The fried chimichangas were just amazing. I wish I could pack this place up and take it home with me! There was a small glitch with my online order, and the hostess took care of it quickly and with apologies. Highly recommend! read more

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. The staff is friendly and the food is great!

OutSTANDING!!! Generous portions, excellent service and the food was amazing. Only one problem: it's 600 miles from my house (my wife and I are visiting). read more

The food was marginal at best. I had to send something back due to food allergies and the waiter gave me a dirty look, and acted very irritated. Even when I tried to explain that I would get sick if I ate the food. I was scared my food would be spit in. I will not be returning. read more

I ordered the dish with a pair of burritos. The dish came very small, and tasted very average. Bean soup is very salty, and had some tortillas dropped in, so that they soak in and turn into some quite unpleasant substance. We came to visit from Califiornia, and this restaurant is nowhere close to what we consider a good Mexican food. Overpriced too. I wouldn't recommend you visit this place, please look for some alternatives. read more

This place is great if you love Mexican! The only issue I had with it is the parking situation. There doesn't seem to be enough parking for everyone, people in our party had to park a block away. The food is well worth the stop! read more

Food was great! Chips were fresh and warm. The salsa picosa was really good and hotter than I expected. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a good Mexican restaurant. read more

The food was very good. The service was lightening fast. We were in a bit of a hurry and never had to wait for anything. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Williamsburg. read more

I thought this place was perfect for a casual Mexican lunch. The service was very good and the chips and salsa were great. I didn't love my tacos, but that is just because I like the beef spicy :-) read more

The food isn't bad at all. CW employees get a discount. I would not recommend the margs, they are not good at all. I was a little disappointed with that. But the fajitas are good, tacos too, so I'll make the assumption that the rest of the food is good as well. read more

My daughter and son-in-law live in Williamsburg and there are a lot of restaurants to check out on visits and this one has been highly recommended to me by many friends. We had a wonderful dinner here. I really enjoyed my soft shrimp tacos with sliced avocado and rice. The plentiful and complimentary chips were very good. Portions were just right. We all agreed that we finished comfortably full rather than stuffed as we usually are after a Mexican meal. Service was good, the decor attractive and interesting. Prices couldn't be beat. Very reasonable. read more

Great place for some real Mexican food. Tacos were great and authentic. Price is right and the service is friendly.

Good food, they had tasty micheladas. My recommendation is to add more spice to their food, the salsa is a bit bland. Great service and personable staff. read more

If this is the best Mexican food that Williamsburg has to offer, I am not impressed. Very much a Tex-Mex type of feel and not authentic. They should narrow down the menu and put more quality dishes in to their selection. The food wasn't bad and the service was great. Good fast food type of place. read more

Great food that is consistently yummy every time we come. Family run, good service, super clean...our go to Mexican in Williamsburg.

Definitely, NOT a fan. They need to hire more staff at this place. All I wanted was a refill. I get up and walk back there and our waiter is wiping menus and clearly no one's waiting in line for a menu! This guy needs to get his priorities straight. If he doesn't like waiting on the customers, he needs to hire a waitress or two! Also, while this guy is at your table taking your order, he also answers the phone he's cradling on his face, and let's you know he has to take the phone order first, even though he was RIGHT in the middle of taking my family's order. read more

We called in for a pickup order an hour before they closed. We went to pick up the order and they had closed a half hour early! Thankfully we were paying with cash and hadn't been charged. read more

My family and I were visiting Williamsburg for the week and were in the mood for Mexican food. Yelp reviews were very favorable with La Totelca so we decided to try it. They were right. Staff was very friendly and the food was delicious! We had more than enough to eat and took half of it with us. We had the fajitas for two, burrito deluxe and a couple of other dishes. If we lived in Williamsburg, this would be a family favorite. My wife is from east Texas, so she has high standards for Mexican food and she said this is the best in Virginia so far. read more

Went to busch gardens with my family tried La Tolteca for dinner because they had good reviews. Although I didn't like the chips the salsa was very good I did like their rice but my son had chicken nuggets and fries and they used the Tyson dinosaur nuggets which is fine but they were over cooked and hard the kids wanted dessert so we had the ice cream taco & the burrito mazana, not sure if they used ice milk or a really cheap ice cream none the less it wasn't good the whip cream was also terrible. I ordered a raspberry margarita and I think they forgot the tequila it was horrible. I gave them 2 stars for the great salsa and good rice. I would never go back even if I was starving and that was the only place open in town! read more

Nice, quick service. Good, standard mexican fare. The ground beef and salsa were a little bland, but the atmosphere and service were great. Not the most inexpensive Mexican food I have seen, but about average for a tourist town. read more

Great place for Spanish style food in the Colonial Williamsburg area. I ordered the Bistec a lo Pobre. I wouldn't mind to see them use just a little more steak in the dish, but the meat was seasoned well and packed a lot of flavor. The steak fries were just a tad undercooked, but I managed. The sweet plantains, however, were done perfect - not too mushy, not too crispy, not too oily - they were just right. Our server's name was Jacquelyn, and she was fantastic. Very attentive, refilled our water glasses many times and brought out plenty of chips & salsa for our appetizer. Will definitely come back again the next time I'm in the neighborhood. :) read more

I love this place. This restaurant has become my number one favorite for Mexican in the Williamsburg area. The food is always great and the service is consistently excellent. Very affordable and delicious food in a friendly environment. read more

Fast service to say the least. As soon as you sit down you get chips and a really great smooth salsa that I prefer over chunky. Ordered some avocado dip and it is brought out in a bowl they do not do it at the table. Ordered a special off the board and had the #138 grilled chicken and mexican sausage with rice covered in cheese dip. $9.99. It was delicious and plenty of it, Gave a 4 instead of a 5 because of no guacamole at the table. read more

I went there with my wife and two kids. The food was great. We had 4 meals, 2 deserts, 1 beer, 3 sodas and paid $47 + tip. You cannot beat that. Overall great food, great experience. read more

By far the best Mexican food restaurant in Williamsburg - where the locals go. The service is phenomenal, chips and salsa pretty much arrive with you when you sit down. The food is quality, comes out fast, and has always been perfect. I go at least once a week. read more

Fast, friendly service, good food, good prices. Much like my last review, this is not a fancy place. I guess I'm not a fancy person most of the time. Anyway, this is a solid place for a family Mexican dinner. read more

The food here is delicious. I have been here multiple times and the cuisine tastes exactly the way is did on my trips to Mexico. The owners are friendly and they add to the dining experience. This is a family run shop so it can get slower when it is really busy, but if you want authentic Mexican food in Williamsburg THIS is the place to go. read more

Pretty awesome. Huge menu, got fish tacos that were excellent. Good beer specials. Great service, can't go wrong with this place

We have been here numerous times. We have tried the tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fish tacos, etc which have all been delicious. The only setback is that sometimes the service can be slow usually on slower nights. The customer service itself though is very friendly. This is our regular local place for great Mexican food at good prices. read more

A little bit of a hole in the wall place but we had no complaints about the service. Everything is fresh and hot, served quickly. The staff was incredibly attentive without being annoying. Sweet tea was actually authentic for the South! Very reasonable prices and decent portions. read more

The restaurant is small but cozy and clean. Host and server were friendly. Quick to bring over chips & salsa, refill drinks and deliver food. I ordered the enchilida/burrito combo, it was excellent. Everyone else in the party enjoyed their meals. I'm new to the area, and I've checked out a few Mexican restaurants - so far, this is the best and I'll be back. read more

Excellent food. Excellent margaritas. Go for the Gold! Manager and staff very nice. Service very good, and food came out very fast. Last night I had the burritos carnitas. The pork was delicious. Tonight's dos amigos with chicken didn't disappoint really recommend this place. read more

Great meal at a great price! Service was very fast. For the money, you can't beat them. Only gave four stars because of the average seating, vinyl booths, and atmosphere. So good the first night, I ate there the next night too with my teenagers. Never waited, even on Friday night! read more

The hardest thing to do on the east coast is to find Good Authentic Mexican food. After living in Southern California for over 20-years, and then moving to Williamsburg, I had to find a good Mexican food restaurant. No need to look any further - La Tolteca is hands down the most authentic you will find. In fact, I even asked them to make a Carne Asada Burrito, the same way my favorite SoCal Mexican restaurant used to. They did it - it was awesome! Price is right, food is great and the service is exceptional. Best not only in Williamsburg, but also the whole state of Virginia. read more
