I ordered lunch special #3 and it was great! It was a to go order- I was very impressed that they served me such good food so quickly, my order was out in less than 5 minutes. The folks working there are also very nice and seem genuinely happy to see you in their restaurant. Nice hospitality like this in a restaurant is rare in this area, so I will definitely look forward to coming back to La Tolteca again. The decor inside was colorful but tastefully done. My boyfriend and I go here atleast once every 2 months. Most recently, we went here 06/30/2021. I got a tequila sunrise and street tacos as shown (shrimp). The customer service is amazing! The servers want to get you in and out, but with still an enjoyable experience. I willl definitely be going back. My burrito hit the spot. I was craving Mexican and didn't want to drive the extra 25 minutes to my favorite Mexican restaurant. Our visit was on June 07, 2020 during COVID so we couldn't go inside. The to go orders are packaged well and our food was hot.The one negative about ordering a to go order is that they charge you a $1. I thought that was strange considering it was my only option. July 2, 2020 The manager at the La Tolteca Restaurant location in Crofton, Maryland, would not honor its own daily specials that were mailed out to residents in the Valu Pak coupon mailer specifically designating this particular restaurant location for redeeming these coupon offers. According to the manager, the coupon offers contained in the Valu Pak mailer should not have been mailed out Even the banner hanging outside the restaurant mentions that "daily specials all day." This is an obvious "bait and switch" tactic, and it is a ploy to attract and lure customers who received the coupons, but will be unable to redeem them and use them when they come to the restaurant. Unfortunately, I was unable to post this review without adding at least 1 star; otherwise, I would have left the stars ranking for this particular restaurant location completely blank. I went here for lunch with my husband and small child. We absolutely enjoyed everything. I got the four carnitas tacos, which was apart of the lunch menu, and they were so delicious! My husband got the shrimp burrito and couldn't stop talking about it. My daughter got the chicken tenders, which were just okay ( I think she got full on the chips and salsa). If I could give this restaurant one star, I would. The waitress Ingrid was very rude and got my order wrong multiple times and told me I still had to pay for it. I asked for guacamole and she offered to bring guacamole salad which did not come with chips or real guacamole. When I asked if they had actual guacamole, she then said that she could fresh guacamole but that I would have to pay for both. I also ordered the nachos as they come but changed the meat. She brought out just chips meat and cheese. When I asked if I could get the toppings that come on it, she brought them out and charged me for each individual item as a la carte. I've been meaning to try this place since it opened, but for whatever reason did not get there until 2/1/2020. My family was out of town, so I went by myself to give it a shot. While the restaurant was busy, it was not completely full. However, service was poor to fair. While someone brought chips and salsa right away, I needed to flag someone down to take my order. I first asked an obvious question about their draft beer prices. A single 16 ounce draft of Modelo is $3.99. A 32 ounce draft of the same thing is $8.50. Why is one that is exactly twice as big more than twice the cost? One would expect it to be a bit less. They had no explanation for me other than that is the way it is. So, if you plan to drink 2, buy them one at a time. You'll save 52 cents, and the 2nd 16 ounces will be colder and fresher. I ordered the queso as an appetizer and the Grande Burrito as my entree. After what seemed like a long time to get my appetizer, the entree appeared. I asked what happened to my queso, and then they ran off to get it. The queso is rather bland and watery. The Grande Burrito was decent, nothing to complain about there. I did have to flag someone down to get a beer refill, and again in order to get a box for leftovers and the check. This used to be one of our "Go To" places for Mexican but this last trip was very poor. Service was EXCELLENT! but food was ridiculous. We spent $60 for 7 tacos ( 2 seperate orders-3 flour shell 4 hard shells) and they barely put any meat in the tacos (SEE BELOW PICTURE) and no sour cream or tomatoes or ANYTHING else other than lettuce and cheese on them. And the beans were no better than canned refried beans and the rice was no better than boxed mexician rice. And to add, everything was over the top Salty. I was hoping for a flavorful Mexican dinner. I ordered the fish tacos and a cheese quesadilla. The tacos came with rice but the favor was so strange I could not eat it. The positive side there was plenty of fish on each taco and fresh lettuce but there was very little favor. The cheese quesadilla had no favor. The chips that came with the meal were oily so I could not eat them. I am disappointment that we do not have a good Mexican restaurant in the area. We went to this place because a) we love Mexican and b) the old friendlys was my childhood restaurant. This place was pretty good. Had decent prices on Margarita pitchers and the margs were also great. I liked the food quite a bit. My brother said that the taco he had (I t was beef) was the second best taco he's ever had which is saying something considering he is a taco enthusiast, haha. I had the green Chile chicken enchiladas and they were quite wonderful. Not overly spicy but with good flavor. Food came out very quick and the waitress was very efficient. Dessert was also good. Don't be afraid of seasoning/flavor. The restaurant touts itself as "Authentic" but the flavors from a variety of dishes I tried were completely underwhelming. Stuffed Jalapeños had no heat and the batter wasn't seasoned. I ordered a combination platter of a beef taco, chili relleno, and chalupa. I wish I had taken photos. Nothing on the plate was memorable. The pepper was soggy, and the beef was cooked in a really bland red sauce. The taco was American style but was overloaded with lettuce and no visible cheese - I added white queso sauce (from the appetizer) to it. The chalupa was BURIED under lettuce and consisted of a soggy shell and bland refried beans. On a positive note, I was offered fresh guacamole with pico made table side .
