I've gotten food from here a few times, and every time the service has been really good. There's barely any customers, the interior is huge and clean, and the food in the drop-in bins always looks, tastes, and smells fresh. I ordered a classic burrito with beans, cheese, tomatoes, pickled onions, sour cream, lettuce, and pico de gallo. It tasted excellent! Definitely worth the $11, plus I earn rewards through their Burrito Elito membership. Their sauce wall was lacking, though. They only had a few hot sauces when they always boast having hundreds. If you want a wider selection, go to the Olney MD location, whose sauce wall is always well stocked. They also sell candy at the register to satisfy your sweet tooth! This location also has patio seating. Keep California Tortilla alive, people! It's far better than Chipotle and Baja Fresh (another one that's slowly disappearing). read more

The food was good. The establishment was clean and in good order. Service was excellent. My one tiny complaint is that the tortilla wasn't from California. It had no idea about Sublime's 1994 Skunk Records promo of 40 Oz to Freedom. It had no recollection of the epic festivals out on Redondo Beach. It never once said "stoked" or "gnarly". It refused to "post up" at the Ralph's and looked at me funny when I said "dank". It hadn't even seen all of the Fast and Furious movies. Yeah, this tortilla wasn't definitely NOT from California. Presentation is key and this place misses the mark however you can tell the food is fresh meaning limited preserves and additives. However I ordered tacos and from the meat that was in a lot Of broth to the toppings that were also wet needless to say my tortilla didn't stand a chance. I appreciate them filling my tacos but they became not eatable due to none of the food being properly drained first. Not sure if I will return or not. I have not been to California Tortilla in years. The last time I went to one was in Rockville, MD. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered, because I was greeted by the staff. That is rare these days. I ordered the Blackened Fish Tacos, along with chips and salsa. The fish came on a thin corn tortilla wrapped inside of another thin corn tortilla. I am assuming it is this way to contain the sauce they put on top of the fish. The taco was delicious. The salsa was good as well. It had the right amount of cilantro. The chips were meh. The service was quick, in and out in less than five minutes. The food was good the burrito had a great flavor just the right kick with the jalapeño and avocado . Been going here for years. Service has shears been pretty average but the southwest salad with honey lime dressing was my fav. Unfortunately over the last two years (covid) service has all but diminished. Orders that are placed correctly, either in store or online are constantly missing something, I.e. tortilla strips or dressing, etc. On more than one occasion I've had to drive back 30 mins to address a missing item. The last straw for me was the partially cooked blackened chicken. My husband picked the meals up the night before where, apparently, some kind of disagreement occurred between he and a young black girl with braids and glasses that he estimated was the shift leader. They eventually got to a resolution but he was highly upset with her attitude towards the whole thing. Fast forward to the next morning when I'm about to eat my salad and not only is it missing strips again but the chicken isn't cooked all the way through. I drive 30 min one way to explain the issue... The same black girl seemed to care less. Never apologized or offered a consolation. She simply stared at the receipt, asked me if I had the card and eventually gave my cash. I was polite in my interaction, even tried to show her the pieces I was referring to... She didn't care. I understand things are different and somewhat difficult with staffing and logistics in the midst of COVID. I even understand that sometimes cooks can miss a spot when preparing large quantities of food.... Even though this can be very dangerous. This is a nice quick spot to grab a burrito or bowl when you are on the go. They recently added the Havana Bowl to their menu and I absolutely love it. It was the best thing they did. The Havana bowl has rice, beans, fresh cilantro, sour cream, lettuce, fresh avocado, mango salsa, grilled chicken and fried plantains! I love it especially with added guacamole! There are a lot choices on the menu and lots of drink options. I've also bought a blackened chicken Cesar burrito, fajita burrito, the special dilla, and their fish tacos. The fish tacos are tilapia. I like their other seasonal bowl which was the Mediterranean bowl. It consisted of chicken, couscous, hummus, rice, lettuce, and sour cream. That was delish. Another thing is that Their rice is kind of bland but all the toppings help bring it to life. They also have some nice add ons to make it a fresh deal. For example, chips and guacamole with a soda, chips and queso with a soda, brownie and a soda, or even a cookie with a drink. When I opened the bowl it looked like the food they tried to serve the NBA players in the bubble before they hired actual chefs. There is a line of customers becoming a bit aggravated at the lack of speed in receiving their orders. One customer actually shared with me that she feels bad for the workers. THE WORST FOOD PREPARER STAFFS EVER IN BOWIE, MD! i ordered a tornado burrito last Saturday. While I was waiting for my name to be called, a Hispanic customer walked in and ordered her food after me. After 10 minutes, I still didn't hear my name but the Hispanic customer was handed her order already. That's when I asked what happened to my order. The two jerks pretended they didn't see my ticket order then they hurried to prepare my order, but it was lacking the extra sauce and the rice in the burrito was undercooked and tasted horrible. The cashier apologized but the two jerks were grinning. Staffs like them should be fired for being racists and endangering customers they're biased of. They're criminals! I've been to this location once before a few years ago and wasn't impressed, but since it was free, I thought I should give them another try. I went in and they had two cashiers and only one person preparing the orders. After browsing the menu, I decided to order the chicken club burrito with a side of guac and chips. I sat down and waited for my order which took about 10 minutes to be completed. I opted to take my order home, but they had ample seating available. After tasting the burrito I was glad I didn't have to pay for it. It was extremely salty from the bacon. Sure, it was filling and had a pretty ok taste, but nothing that really stood out. The chips were good but the guac was pretty bland. They seem to have a large following of customers and they even have a customer rewards card, but this just isn't the place for me. Anyway, after seeing all the signs reading "the fish taco is back!", I ordered one of those. I also snagged a blackened chicken caesar burrito (since it was the top seller). The service was very friendly and fast. The fish taco was very tasty- I think it was grouper with some cheeses, slaw and salsa. The burrito had too much rice- too much fluff. As someone who grew up in Southern California and now lives in Arizona, traveling to the East Coast (no offense) to eat at a fast-casual Mexican chain has always seemed like a bad idea. But hey, I actually really like California Tortilla! When traveling in the area, I usually stay at the Towneplace Suites on the outskirts of the Bowie Towne Center. California Tortilla is the closest restaurant to the hotel and a nice, easy walk - so I've been there a few times. There menu includes pretty standard fare - burritos and tacos filled with the requisite meats, cheese, lettuce, etc. I usually opt for the pork carnitas burrito and load it up with avocado. Very fresh and pretty good overall. Add a small side of chips with salsa and you've got yourself a satisfying and quick lunch. What really sets California Tortilla apart is the absolutely dizzying array of hot sauce choices that they have. I have never seen anything like it! Shelves of carefully cataloged bottles of fiery goodness. It was fun going through and seeing all the different sauces I've tried in the past. I filled a few plastic cups with a nice variety of sauces and was able to sample the different flavors. Truly unique! This was my third time venturing to this California Tortilla. My job host training meetings at the Comfort Inn in Bowie quite often and I visit Bowie a lot so I'm familiar with the area. My job is hosting all day training meetings this week in Bowie. That past two days I ate at the hotel and today I wanted something different. I settled on CT because Bowie Town Center food court was closed (down?) and did not want Chipotle. The restaurant is comfortable and clean. The service was great. The young lady took my order and asked me if I wanted to add sides. I asked her what are the sides. She explained them to me in a kind and courteous way. I ended up ordering the steak fajita bowl. It was good, not great and that's because it wasn't to my temperature liking. I might eat again her tomorrow for lunch because the past two times I ate from there the food was pretty great. read more

If you like Mexican "takeout" but find yourself bored with Chipotle's offerings and feel too classy for Taco Bell, California Tortilla is a great place for you. What I love about CalTort is the variety of flavorful menu offerings, their loyalty program, and their super cool beverage touchscreen dispenser (where you can get any flavor combo of your favorite drink---i.e Strawberry Sprite). While Chipotle isn't bad at all (I get a Burrito Bowl quite often), CalTort has more POWPOWPOW in your mouth. Chipotle has what I would call a "fresh" taste...very light and airy. No matter how much of that "spicy salsa" you throw on your 'Potle meal, it doesn't hit you with that full on, marinated meat, conjunction of awesome Tex-Mex flavor. CalTort does. With menu offerings ranging from "California Screamin', Havana Chicken, and the Korean BBQ Burrito, you can visualize the creativity and deliciousness behind a meal at California Tortilla. Their chips and queso are soo good too! Whenever I want a bit more pow to my burrito I come here, Baja Fresh, or Qdoba (additional places to check out if you're anti-Chipotle/too good for Taco Bell). Keep in mind that this isn't "authentic" TexMex--so please leave your outrageously high "I used to live in California/Texas/New Mexico and this isn't real Mexican!!" standards at home.
