My friend was not satisfied with the sangria she said it tasted like dark cherry kool-aid - she was able to swap for the gold classic and she enjoyed that one much more. The seasonal margarita was ok. I enjoyed my frozen swirl. For food I had the Parilla-Spiced Camarones Tacos - they were good. The Baja Fried Fish Tacos were enjoyed. The guacamole was basically the start of the dinner for the evening. We got jalapeños on the side due to different tolerance levels and they weren't spicy at all. I ordered the deluxe green enchiladas with ground beef. The food came and you could see the chicken hanging out the ends. I told the server and she brought new ones with beef. Dry inside, hardly any sauce, no sour cream that I could detect. No pride or professionalism in the kitchen. Great food & service! Arrived with a groups of 5 without a reservation and was seated quickly. I had the chicken fajitas and was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was juicy and had so much flavor. It came with rice, beans of your choice, guacamole, sour cream, cheese and amazing flour tortillas. My beverage of choice was a Coke and it was so CRISP and refreshing. I haven't been to this location before, so we decided to checkout in at Friday around 5:00pm. We were able to get seated at a booth within 5 minutes. The space looked really nice, clean, and intimate for a chain restaurant. We were able to order happy hour from our booth which I was surprised about. We ordered the queso and chicken quesadilla from the happy hour menu and they both 10/10. The gucamole with pickled vegetables that came with the quesadilla was probably some of the best guac I have had in many years. I also got the tortilla sound and it was good. For dinner I ordered the chicken, steak, and shrimp fajitas. Everything was very flavorful and tender. My husband ordered a steak and said it was the most flavorful steak he has had in a very long time. He also gave it a 10/10. The servers were friendly but but busy. I wanted to share feedback about our experience at Uncle Julio's last night, as it was unfortunately very disappointing. We had a reservation for 6:15 PM, but after being seated, we waited over 15-20 minutes without being greeted and had to flag down a random waiter just to get service started. Even after that, we then waited another 10-15 minutes before our server came to our table. It then took about 45 minutes just to receive water, and our margaritas didn't arrive until around 7:20 PM. The delays continued throughout the evening--we waited a very long time for guacamole, and the service was so slow that we ended up ordering a second round of drinks with our meal before our first round had even arrived. When the first drinks finally came, they were completely watered down from sitting so long. On top of that, some of our food was missing, and other items were significantly delayed coming out, which made it difficult to even eat together as a table. What made this especially frustrating was that the restaurant did not appear busy, and there were multiple staff members standing around while our table--and others--were waiting. There seemed to be very little teamwork or support among staff, which our server even alluded to. We didn't leave until 8:50 PM, making the entire experience nearly three hours, which is far longer than expected for dinner. While our server was very kind and did her best, she mentioned she wasn't getting help from other staff, which seemed to contribute to the overall breakdown in service. We understand that restaurants can get busy, but this level of delay, missing items, and lack of coordination--especially when the restaurant wasn't busy--made for a really poor experience. I hope this feedback is helpful, as we've enjoyed Uncle Julio's in the past and would like to see improvements. read more

The place had a nice, cozy vibe. We chilled at the bar while waiting for our table, the game was on, and my margarita with the Tajín rim was so good. Our waiter Paris was awesome, super friendly, and really on top of things as well as suggesting entrées for us to try. I ordered the honey chipotle salmon with rice and black beans. It was cooked medium, but honestly just okay. The guac, though -- fresh and full of flavor, that was the highlight Overall, it was an okay spot. Went with some friends after an event to Uncle Julio's for a few drinks and some appetizers. Was our first time there and inside was really nice. Our waiter was great and gave us some good suggestions. We had the handmade guacamole which they come to your table and make it fresh in front of you. Came back to give it another try. The only dish that was truly delicious was the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer. Plump shrimp with a nice sauce. Perfectly cooked. The enchiladas didn't taste good, the sauce didn't taste right to me. The crunchy tacos were ok but we can make better ones at home, and the shell was soggy by the time it was served. The crab enchilada with green sauce was terrible awful. Dry, bland, hard pass. The waiter was very good, except we waited too long to get our check. This place is busy and it still baffles me as to why. We won't be back. Too expensive for under performing food. read more

I had taken a break on writing reviews for a while, but had an experience today that I had to post. I stopped in for lunch at Uncle Julio's near my hotel, the Crowne Plaza. I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by a very friendly bartender, Matt. I was there for more than 3 hours waiting for a convention to start. Matt was very patient and helpful with every customer during my entire visit. He made sure my water was always full and checked back every 15 minutes or so. Specifically, I noticed he waited on another couple across the bar from me. The man had a severe stutter. Instead of frustration, he patiently allowed the man to place his complete order without interruption. A complete professional. I wish all servers were this good. I arrived for lunch after doing my errands and delaying my adventure east over the traffic ladened Bay Bridge. Upon arrival, i was greated by a friendly host and seated right away. Within minutes, my waiter arrived seeking drink requests and food order. I had to slow things down as i wasn't ready to order food. After delivering my drinks, I was ready to order. I ordered the Tex Mex dinner combo, two enchiladas and a taco. The turnaround on the food order was fast. The portion size was decent and more importantly the food was very good. My husband and I visited Uncle Julio's in Annapolis for the first time on Saturday as a day-late Valentine's celebration. While the food was good and the margaritas were great, the front-of-house experience left a lot to be desired. We had a 5:00 PM reservation and arrived on time at 4:55 PM. Despite checking in promptly, we weren't seated until 5:25 PM. During that time, we watched at least three to four parties who arrived after us get seated before us. At 5:15 PM, I asked the hostess about the delay, and she assured us we were next--but that wasn't the case. Ten minutes later, after seeing more parties seated ahead of us, my husband spoke to the host. At that point, we were offered bar seating (which is first-come, first-served and in a high-traffic area) and then a table near the entrance. These totally felt like afterthoughts! When it was clear those weren't acceptable options, a table in the dining room was mysteriously available. To make matters worse, the host acknowledged to both me and my husband that we had been skipped -- but only offered a weak apology and no effort to make it right (no comped appetizer, drink, or even genuine ownership of the mistake). Once seated, the food and drinks helped salvage the experience, but the disorganized and dismissive front-of-house staff made it hard to enjoy. For a place that takes reservations, I'd expect better. This restaurant seriously needs to raise its standards. I've been here several times, and every visit I've had dirty silverware with food still stuck on it. The countertops are constantly sticky, which is disgusting and completely unacceptable. When I mentioned it to the bartender, instead of apologizing or fixing the problem, I got attitude. The only reason I keep coming back is because there aren't many other options for Mexican food in Annapolis at lunchtime. I visit the same restaurant locations in D.C., where I live, and they're always clean, friendly, and professional -- so there's no excuse for this one to be so poorly managed. Management needs to hold the staff to higher standards, because this location is giving the brand a really bad look. read more

A fun place to come for lunch when in the mood for Mexican. As I write this a sever dropped an empty tray causing many of us to jump. There are a couple of party lunches here now and all are having a good time. I had the enchilada combo and my husband had the taco combo. We enjoyed everything. I especially liked the rice. Of the three enchiladas I had, chicken, beef, and cheese and onion, I liked the cheese and onion best. The chicken was the spiciest. Spice was mild. The ground beef had a nice taste as well. Service was quick. Reasonable prices. I enjoyed sitting opposite the open prep kitchen. I was just greeted by Haley the manager. She asked if I enjoyed my lunch. Well I certainly did. Uncle Julio's switched hands in June, which could explain peoples reviews as of late. However, my friends and I had a nice experience. Our server, Tina, was very personable and knowledgeable. We walked right in and were greeted by a wonderful and cheerful hostess. We were asked if we had reservations or were we walk-ins. We told her that we were walk-ins and were still promptly seated. The restaurant was busy and packed. There was music playing throughout the restaurant. The added touch of music was nice but it was entirely too loud. My waiter even thought so and went to ask someone to turn it down. It never was lowered. I could barely hear him when he tried to take our order. He brought is chips and two different salsas which were both delicious. We ordered the chicken tortilla soup and the chicken and strip steak fajitas to share. We also ordered a Sprite and a Diet Coke. The fajitas were good but there were more onions than bell peppers. There were only three pieces of bell pepper. The tortilla soup was lukewarm and a tad salty so I asked odor some lime and extra cheese, which were brought out quickly by our waiter. The lime helped but I just wish it was served to me hot. It was a cold and rainy day so that is why I order the soup in the first place. Our waiter was wonderful. He was warm, personable, and friendly. He was attentive without being intrusive. I finally got a chance to check out Uncle Julio's and boy was it a great decision. There were so many people, I had to get a seat at the bar. The service didn't drop a beat even though it was jammed packed. The food was delicious and so enjoyed everything I had. The nachos were prepared the way I like them, the cheese was baked on top of the tortilla chip so that's an immediate 5 points out the gate. They give you a complimentary basket of chips and salsa, again, always a win in my book. The birria tacos were delicious and tasted just as good as the popular food trucks. The enchiladas were delicious and they gave me a great serving of food. It's located next to the mall and a lot of shopping areas in Annapolis, so you can easily make a day out of being in the area. Bottom Line: Tasty Mexican and Tex-Mex inspired menu available for dine-in or to go. Somewhere between when Uncle Julio's opened and the start of the pandemic my husband I dined in and enjoyed the experience. We only dined in once because the wait was always very long but it was a nice experience - neat décor, friendly service and tasty food. While I will eventually make it back to the dining room to try the Chocolate Pinata, for now I've been indulging in takeout. Placing and picking up a to-go order at Uncle Julio's is very easy. We've been ordering online and then when we get to Uncle Julio's we text them to let them know we're there and they deliver right to the car. They use high quality take-out containers and separate items as needed to maintain the quality of the food. We've ordered quesadillas, tacos, fajitas and such with a pretty good result although I know it would be better if we dined in rather than taking it on a 10+ minute journey home. Uncle Julio's is a little pricier than I prefer to pay for Mexican but with such a convenient to-go process it easily stays in my rotation. read more

This has always been my go to Uncle Julio's. The location is convenient. Plenty of parking available. Service has always been good. The restaurant is spacious and good for any occasion. I'm not happy some items never made it back on the menu due to the pandemic but I'll live. The food continues to be good quality. I love the fresh tortillas. I tried the new birria tacos. They were spicy but seasoned. The sauce was watery and lacked flavor. The bacon wrapped shrimp was okay. Worst experience I've ever had! What the heck has happened to this restaurant!?! Horrible, unskilled waitress, food took FOREVER, even the apps, and when it did arrive it came out COLD!!! I'm so disgusted! Meals were served in portions, and I'm taking about items for the same person came out 22 minutes apart, then it came out WRONG! How is this even possible for a restaurant of this caliber! The waitress had a passive aggressive attitude and when the manager came and asked if everything was okay and I said no, my daughter told me not to worry and let's just finish and leave.
