I've been seeing commercials for this spot for years, and never knew where it was located. (I also didn't bother to 'Google', obvi.) My niece and I were on the hunt for patio dining before our Trader Joe's run, so we decided on Uncle Julio's. It was a delicious decision. WE: Warm nachos + warm salsa = The perfect duo. Good enough to share, but even better if you can keep them all to yourself. Why doe at his place only have 3 stars?!?? This places was a 5. Good prices, good and service. Our food came out in under ten mins. It was fresh and my tacos were so full of meat and everything else. My drink was yummm and overall this place was great!! I loved my server, he was attentive and nice. They ask you where you would like to dine at indoors or outdoors. This restaurant has plenty of space and they were able to seat us right away at about 5pm on a Friday without a reservation, so that's a plus. They delivered the food quickly! We didn't wait more than 10 minutes for anything. That being said, the food wasn't impressive. I've had much better Tex Mex, and I'm from Texas so I'd definitely know. The best thing about my meal were the beans. My husband said his salmon had no flavor whatsoever. He also said his beans were good lol. While shopping for a dress at the Annapolis Mall, my mom and I decided to enjoy lunch on a Saturday before Thanksgiving. I hadn't been to this location since Covid and remembered how difficult it was to obtain a table. The newness must have worn off because it was a cinch to get a table. Also the interior looks worn. Overall the place looks like it needs a cleaning. As for service, it was prompt and friendly. Our server was new and in training still. I'm a big fan of their steak fajitas, but decided to try the shrimp street tacos instead. I have to say their street tacos aren't prepared in the traditional way with a softened tortilla and just chopped onion and cilantro as a garnish as I was expecting. These shrimp tacos were much richer, but still delicious. They were loaded with cheese and the tortilla was crunchy instead of steamed. As always the rice and beans were prepared well. I dont know if I have been to another location but this place is aiight. Popped in on a random Saturday with the fam, before the shut down, and we were promptly greeted and seated. I absolutely LOVE their chips - super thin and crispy with a slight oil sheen and the salsa has just the right amount of spice. I also ordered blood orange margaritas and WHEW were they tasty - the half salted rim was the perfect touch. So good, I ordered three! I also ordered the steak fajitas which was a really large portion and enough to definitely bring home for dinner. I love seeing that sizzling plate come out and be placed before me. Steak was tender and seasoned well with my favorite corn tortillas available upon request. Someone else at the table got the pork cube tacos (forget if it's carintas or what) and it had this really good honey/sweet sauce to accompany the tacos which was perfect. We went here for our daughter's 9th birthday. The main draw was the lure of their signature chocolate piñata. Now, I'll get to that in a little bit but (I thought it was going to be lame-I was wrong). When walking up I saw ample outdoor seating and they had a fire going. It was a gas fire enclosed in like a fish tank with an open top. No one was outside however, too cold. When we walked in the manager held the door open for us. He did the old push the outer door open so someone could grab it and held open the inner door. Good start. If you are by yourself trying to hold open an inner and outer door, this is the way you got to do it. We had 6:30 reservations but it looked like there was no wait. We were given a table or booth choice. We picked the booth. Booths can be hit or miss especially with leg room. If I was with another tall person, I would pick the table next time because the booth was a tad bit scrunched but still comfortable. Food was great but the piñata stole the show for me. Came here for my best friend's mom's birthday an had a great time. We started with shots of Cuervo and a round of margaritas. Mama and I had Cadillac margaritas (here I think they call them Lucky Horseshoe or something) while my best friend had the El Jefe margarita, which had some kind of spicy syrup in it and was garnished with a salt and pepper rim. One compliant I've always had about this chain is that although the margaritas are great (and this location was no exception) the portion sizes are not commiserate with the price. My best friend was lucky because his was served in a shaker and he at least got two whole servings out of his. For apps I ordered the Queso Blanco. It was a little runny for my taste, but it didn't go to waste. For dinner I had the Jalisco fajitas with grilled steak, grilled chicken and three grilled shrimp. The steak was cooked perfectly, the chicken was slightly overcooked and just a tab bit dry, and the shrimp has just a bit too much seasoning on them. Not dealbreakers by any stretch... in fact, the dish was good enough to eat without the tortillas. The star of the meal was the chocolate pinata. What a fabulous idea, and even more delicious execution. It was an oversized ball of chocolate filled with mini churros, strawberries and some time of chocolate filled donut balls... and yes, you have to bash it to get to all the goodies inside. :) Even if there was nothing inside it would have still been a great dessert. The chocolate itself was fantastic: smooth and rich and of a conspicuously higher quality that your average Hershey bar. I think Mama and I enjoyed that part of the meal most of all. read more

I drove past this place for years, on my way to other restaurants and destinations. If my sister-in-law hadn't recommended it, I'd still be driving past. So last month we decided to give it a try, after all this time. I have to say, it was a good recommend. The first thing we noticed is that this is a popular place! My wife and I are lunch time eaters; neither one of us likes the whole hustle and bustle of dining out for dinner so we opt for lunch. We decided to hit this place at our usual time of 2pm on a Saturday- there was a line growing out the door! I thought for sure we'd avoided the lunchtime rush but obviously I was wrong. Still we lucked out; everyone else was waiting on a table so we'd put ourselves on the list when a few seats at the bar opened up and we opted to sit at the bar- this works out great because its pretty much our favorite seating arrangement for most places. In this case, it's right next to the kitchen so wait times are minimal on food and drink. That's a win, twice over. Anyway we were greeted by the bartender, who was restocking his station but got us some fresh chips and salsa. They were hot, crispy and the salsa had a smoky flavor to it and wasn't all thick and red like what you'd get out of a jar. Quite good, as far as chips and salsa go. My go-to meal for Tex-Mex spots is the basic ground beef tacos with rice and beans; my wife's is chicken fajitas. We ordered a couple Modelos and I had a chilled Lunazul Blanco neat, because when in Rome... The food came out shortly after we got our drinks, on multiple dishes, very hot and smelling really good. For my meal, you could say if you've had one taco you've had them all but that's not really the deal. Some are better than others and this is one of those places. The shells were warm and crispy, the beef filling was tasty and they didn't skimp on the amount, lettuce and tomatoes were cool and crisp, they pair well with the smoky salsa. The rice was good, had a nice color and consistency with a hint of tomato, plus you get a good amount of it. Here comes the best part for me, and it totally surprised me. A little background; I've always loved Tex-Mex; I look for a spot wherever I go should the craving hit (which it usually does). But there are levels; my first really great experience was at a little place called La Carreta, down in central VA back in the mid-90s. I had no idea til then what it was supposed to be like as all my previous experiences centered around Taco Bell and similar fast taco establishments. But I digress...the best part of this meal was the BEANS. I know, crazy, right? But let me explain- most places will give you refried beans, which I've always found a bit off-putting; I won't get into what they remind me of, suffice it to say that I never once tasted them until last year when we were at Queretaro and my wife pushed me to try them. I was shocked, they tasted good! The consistency was similar to mashed potatoes but the flavor wasn't like BBQ-style beans (which I despise and will never eat), it had a hint of garlic and cilantro despite looking like mess on a plate! Anyway, the beans at UJ's are whole, in a sauce- like what you'd get with BBQ style but DAMN they are worlds better than any I've ever had! It probably strikes you as funny that I'd be so enthusiastic about the beans but as a person who didn't/wouldn't/couldn't eat beans of ANY kind his entire life, this is a big, big deal! HUGE, for me anyway. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her fajitas; plenty of chicken, fresh tortillas- I didn't taste them but I did eat her beans! Yeah, they're really that good. She couldn't finish her meal so we ended up with take home containers. Which I demolished later that evening, it was a nice snack! All in all, we had a great experience, so we've gone back three more times since then; once with my sister-in-law who first recommended the place- she remarked that it is as good as the other ones she's been to. We also learned it is better to get there before noon on the weekends; it opens at 11:15am and it is pretty accessible til around 12:30pm when we noted that the place started filling fast! I suppose I should also mention it is the most expensive Tex-Mex restaurant we've ever been to but it has been my experience that good food on the cheap is the rarity, not the norm and I'm not averse to paying a higher price if I know what I'm getting is going to be worth it. The service is great at the bar; zero wait for drinks and short wait for food adds up to winning for us. And them beans y'all!!! read more

According to Google, Taco John's coined the phrase "Taco Tuesday." They May have coined it but Uncle Julio's has elevated it to must eat Yelping. The good Uncle's current Taco Tuesday promotion is almost too unbelievable to share; but share I will all for the love of Yelp. For the price of $10 per person you can get all the taco fixins' and taco shells (hard or soft) you can eat with individual Dutch ovens filled with either ground beef or pulled chicken taco meat per person. If you want more meat it is $5 a bowl but each bowl was enough for five or six nice sized tacos. I counted 15 toppings brought out to the table including: cilantro; lime wedges; chipotle crema; tumbleweed onions; Cotija cheese; roasted corn pico; sour lime cream; pickled onion; white onion; salsa; taco sauce; lettuce; diced tomatoes; cheddar cheese mix; and chili sauce. All of this taco goodness is served on a lazy Susan so that you can rotate the toppings towards you to make your own tacos at your table. What a novel idea, being able to fully customized our taco. My teenage son ate over 10 tacos and was very satisfied. Not bad for $10 plus another $5 to refill the meat. Each ingredient was so fresh and the presentation was fantastic. We ordered a side of cilantro rice which we used as an additional taco filling. Would that they offered grilled onions and peppers, but that is a minor quibble because what they had was more than enough. I was so taken by the Taco Tuesday special that I forgot to order the table side made guacamole and I was not even upset. Spinning those toppings around to fill custom taco while sipping on a frozen swirled margarita had me looking forward to the next Taco Tuesday (in my Lebron James voice). read more

Maria (if that's her name) at the bar April 11th around 7:45-8:15 showed us her style and I'll say... not impressed! What so ever. No surprise as she was so dedicated to returning to the conversation she was having. Could go on and on. So thankful to spend over $100 on terrible service, mid food and tip. I made reservations and only waited a few mins before my table was ready. It was packed in there lol. If you don't like noise you should come during lunch time or happy hour when it's not as packed. My food was beyond My expectations and I can't remember which drink I had but it was AMAZING! Please give this place a try if you have not yet visited. I had a phenomenal date night at this Uncle Julio's location. We arrived at 5pm without a reservation on a Friday night and we were immediately seated (no line or wait). We were sat at a booth in the back that was away from the noise of the main room. The booth was clean and sanitized and I had a great view for people watching. Please note that some staff do not wear masks, including staff who enter and exit the kitchen. Our waiter wore a mask the entire time and we sincerely appreciated it. Our waitress was prompt, efficient, and lovely. She visited our table at opportune moments to check on us and I wouldn't change a thing about her service. Chips and salsa (including refills) are complimentary, as usual. We both ordered margaritas to drink. For food, we ordered queso, fish tacos, and the Tex-Mex Combination Dinner. All items on the table were delicious. The portion sizes were huge and we did end up asking for to-go boxes because we could not finish it. We realized we beat the dinner rush (which started around 5:30pm). Once all the tables were filled, the restaurant became unbearably loud. As we exited the restaurant, the front area was over-crowded with people waiting. There were so many guests on the waitlist that the crowds spilled beyond the outdoor waiting area and into the parking lot. The food is amazing. They DO have a gluten free menu. Originally, I found it a bit limited. I did have the shrimp fajitas and they were everything. Came with quac, rice and black beans. Wasn't too crazy about the rice but everything else was great. I asked for no tortillas so they took the extra mile and gave me lettuce for tortillas. I ordered the Juanita's Platter. 1 beef enchilada with agave queso sauce, 1 chicken enchilada with creamy hatch chile sauce, 1 crispy taco with beef, and 1 Pork tamale with New Mexico red sauce. So my girlfriend suggested that we come here for lunch, I agreed reluctantly lol. Of course we stared with drinks. The jalapeño margarita... OMG GREAT!! The price crazy at $13.50 but you definitely got two full drinks out of the shaker he left on the table. We ordered guacamole and chips to start. It was good and fresh but could've used some salt. Next we ordered our meal. I chose beef enchiladas, they were delicious with a little heat ... awesome. My girlfriends ordered the taco salad. This was a very large salad and they loved it. We were looking for somewhere near to eat and by the look of it we thought it would be just another chain restaurant filled with disappointment but was proven wrong. Staff was super amazing especially since we did not have a reservation. They bring fresh salsa and chips to the table. I enjoyed a really tasty frozen margarita. For the entrée I had the Guadalajara. Absolutely ridiculous experience from the jump. I made reservations on Resy for Friday night at 7:30. Confirmed and texted confirmation. Got there and no one could find my resy. Host saw my email confirmation and they all scrambled to get us a table. So that was good. Now to the rest of the night. The 4 of us sat at a table with only 2 glasses for water. Immediately our server comes to the table and blames bussers. Yeah not a good look. Say nothing and just fix it. Stuff happens. 3 of us order cocktails and 1 ordered soda. Server comes back to tell us how busy the bar is and it may be a while. Yeah again, stop telling us all th e problems. And why did the coke take longer than the cocktails? We got our drinks and my hubby still didn't have his coke. Server finally gets water glasses. We had to ask Server for app plates. Entrées come out and of course the server didn't get thing correct. I asked for black beans got the other type. It was fine. I ate them. No biggie. Hubby wanted mushrooms but never got them. The other server who brought the food thought that reaching over all of us to hand out hot food was a good idea. We had to ask him to walk around rather than reach over with sizzling plates! We had to ask them to take away the app plates! The food was good although incorrect. But the service was subpar. Then we decided to get dessert...churros. Went here on 17 April 2021 with two of my favorite people. My first time going to Uncle Julios. We were seated in a booth if you don't like tight spaces, ask for a regular table. Booth seating was super tight. Our waiter was excellent and attentive. The chips, salsa and Queso were already in the table as one member of our party got there early. I didn't particularly care for the salsa, but the queso was extra good. And I don't usually do queso, but I was glad I tried it this time. My drink was the grapefruit Margarita. It was really, really good. There was a time that my palate could not stand the taste of tequila, but I guess my palate has changed with age. I'm still a bourbon girl, but I love a good margarita every now and then. And this one was good. For my entree, I had the Jalisco fajita that comes with shrimp, chicken, and steak. I Opted not to get the steak and replaced the Mexican rice with cilantro rice. Really didn't want rice at all, but they didn't have any other substitutions. Perhaps in the future they will consider cauliflower rice or brown rice. Yes, I know neither of those is authentic Mexican fare, but hey, I can dream. I also opted not to get the beans. The shrimp and chicken was plenty of protein. The food came out and it was a HUGE portion. I couldn't even eat it all. But it was very flavorful. The atmosphere and decor was nice. I wish it would have been a better weather day because their outdoor patio seating looked phenomenal. I enjoyed my meal, and then ordered the sopapillas to go......and left them on the table. *insert Homer Simpson doh* I enjoyed my food, the service, and the atmosphere. We ordered takeout. We were not impressed. The The chicken enchiladas tasted as good as they looked. They were very bland. We had to add salsa and other seasonings to improve the flavor. It didn't smell very appetizing either. Finally, the chips were among the least appetizing restaurant chips I have tried. The salsa was also bland and its initial taste reminded me of green beans. We threw it out. We will not return. read more

I came to Uncle Julios by myself for lunch the other day. The atmosphere walking in is always nice and upbeat, but it tends to be a little cold inside with the super tall ceilings. My server was Cameron and he was very attentive and caring when it came to my order. I ordered a chicken bowl with no chicken and it wasn't an issue at all. I always get chips and a small guacamole and cheese because I am so obsessed with guac and queso. It was definitely super tasty and so filling. I also got the mango lemonade I believe and it was really good! I don't come here as often as I would like to because of how expensive it tends to be. I do still love to come eat here though because there are so many different choices. Not many vegetarian food options but just enough to keep me coming back. (: read more

Over rated and Very over priced the margarita was very good but again way over priced. It only cost me about 2.50 for a shot of tequila and I think it was 12.00 or one drink I could see $7-8. He chips and salsa were good a little spicy but good. Wife and I split two meals so we could see how two things were. The pork tacos were good but again cost was very high and finally do not get the chocolate penyata it looks great until you break it open almost every table by us ordered it and NONE of them ate even half of it. Something else way over priced. We probably won't be back our little Mexican restaurant brown the street we can eat almost tree meals there for what it cost us here. Came here for the first time the weekend before Christmas for a family dinner and it was crazy packed. Luckily, we had reservations and were seated immediately. We sat in front of the kitchen so we were able to watch the tortillas being made on the conveyor. It was neat. I ordered the chicken flautas which were crunchy and yummy. Others ordered tacos and fajitas. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp appetizer that he has not stopped raving about since we left so I'd say he enjoyed it. Food was good but let's be honest, the piñata is what brought me here. A chocolate piñata filled with churros, fruit, and more chocolate? And we get to break it open with a bat? Count me in. We were feeling pretty bold and ordered two piñatas for 10 of us. We all left in a dessert coma between all the chocolate and whipped cream we ate. I plan on returning just for dessert. read more
