Top highlights: Food = 10/10 Drinks = 10/10 Service = 10/10 I came here on a date night Saturday after finding this restaurant on Tik Tok. I was happy that it did not disappoint. We were seated promptly and our waiter was quick coming to take our order. The food came out quickly and tasted authentic and fresh. We ordered the Casa Migos margarita pitcher and omg was it good and STRONG. Definitely a better option for a larger party, as one full glass and we were feeling it. The waiters and waitresses are very nice and it feels like you're home. When I go here, I order the guacamole live! I get only a little bit of jalepenos and no tomatoes. I just love the chunkiness of The guacamole with the onions. It is enough to share with others but I enjoy it by myself. I also usually get the mixed fajitas. It arrives to the table sizzling on a steaming hot plate. I swap out the pork for beef. It is yummy goodness! I have had the crunchy chicken tacos which aren't bad but make sure to ask for sour cream and guac. It comes with pico de gallo. The chicken is shredded chicken. I have also tried their quesadillas and shrimp tacos. These are the soft tacos. Their drinks are strong and delicious! Must try! There are different flavor margaritas, pina coladas, etc. Every time I come here, I enjoy myself. They have a mariachi band that plays every other Monday night. Give them a try! I had been patiently waiting for this place to open. I saw it on my way to the gym and it made my stomach rumble. Finally had the chance to try it out. The interior is spacious, wooden tables and the like. The menu has A LOT everyone should be able to find something that they like. Of course there is chips and salads when you sit down and someone walking around making fresh guacamole. I had a yummy meat mashup of fajitas that I believe had chicken, steak and shrimp. It came with beans, salsa and rice. I had the option to get either flour or corn tortillas. The food was awesome, there were huge portions so much so that I had enough to fill my belly the next day. I'm always around the area because I love going shopping at the "At Home" and goodwill store right next to the restaurant. Every time my husband and I pass it, we were so curious and at first even I was skeptical dining in at first. We went on a week day where it was crowded at all, probably 2 or 3 other groups eating as well. The interior design is very festive and the staff friendly as well. This review is for carryout. The first two times we tried to call for carryout (the first month they were open), the phone rang and rang. No one ever answered. We had to go to the restaurant to place an order to take home. I'm happy to report we haven't had any problems since then. We've ordered the Arroz Con Pollo (grilled marinated chicken breast topped with cheese dip) with Spanish rice, #105 La Tolteca Special (beef tips) with fried beans, and Spanish rice, #131 Pollo Loco (grilled marinated chicken breast topped with chorizo and cheese dip) with Spanish rice and fried beans, Queso Dip, Chicken Quesadilla (flour tortilla grilled, stuffed with cheese, grilled chicken) with lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, and tomatoes, and the Churros (deep fried doughnut sticks rolled in cinnamon and sugar, topped with honey, chocolate syrup, whipped cream). Everything was great. We've consistently had good food the numerous times we ordered carryout. The prices are much lower than the other Mexican restaurants in the area, which is nice. I love how convenient this restaurant is when I just want fajitas or tacos! The only reason I couldn't give 5 stars is because they offer only two free refills of chips with a red salsa and a white sauce. Parking is ample and free and easy to access from the main road. Inside are booth and table seating. The servers are always wonderful and attentive. They recently updated their menu to look more modern and organized. As much as I hate to say it, Crofton has some stiff competition in the Mexican food scene! Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting La Tolteca is better than the others, but it definitely makes its case for being in the running. We have been here twice already, so I can confidently say that the first time was not a fluke. The service is consistently attentive and very friendly, and you are never short on a refill or status of your order. We had the guacamole this last visit, and it was stellar. The jalepenos really add an extra dimension that I think I would miss going forward. I had the #104 combo the first time so I could try a little bit of everything. It was WAY too much food! But, it was all delicious. I really couldn't believe how light the tamale was, given how big it looked. There was no lack of filling either. The taste was sublime, one of the best (if not unorthodox) tamales I've ever had. The tables and chairs are very colorful, and the overall vibe is nice. There's still a lot of the Friendly's layout to the place, which has a slightly cramped feel to it, but the tables and booths are spacious enough. I really thought we would have more "first day jitters" on either visit, but there really wasn't anything to complain about. The staff clearly put a lot of time and energy into this place, and you can tell they are trying hard to keep the patrons happy and coming back. I think it's working. I am mildly amused as I sit down to write this review. I am a Mexican food addict, so any chance I get to eat at a restaurant that I have not visited before I jump on the opportunity. Today I tried this joint out, and unfortunately I was not impressed with the product they deliver. I had a combination platter which consisted of two hardshell tacos, a single cheese enchilada, and a tostada. The tostada was nothing more than a crispy corn tortilla with melted cheese poured over the top, no lettuce tomatoes or any other garnish that most Mexican restaurants put on their tostadas. The cheese was greasy and flavorless. The enchilada was relatively small it had a good flavor and was piping hot. The two hardshell tacos on the other hand we're almost unfit to eat the taco shells were crispy but completely watery in the crease where the hamburger sets, one bite and all of the filling came out of the taco. The lettuce had that kitchen taste to it where it had been sitting around for a while and it tomatoes and cheese at best two out of five stars. I'm giving three stars for the fact that my friend who had a burrito which to me appeared to be a small chimichanga size burrito, enjoyed his meal and the ambience at the restaurant. I would however take time to investigate this restaurant before diving into their menu. I'm not saying their menu is bad it is very robust I'm saying that my combination meal was not up to my standards. read more

These folks do it right. This past Sunday, 5/17/20, my wife and I decided that we hadn't gained enough weight during the pandemic, so we ordered carry out. Ordering wasn't too difficult and we were told that the food will be ready in 15 minutes. It was. We arrived and my wife went inside for our food. I had the Burritos Mexicanos and she had the Burro Grande. With your order, you get a huge bag of hot tortilla chips and some Queso Blanco and salsa. I could have used a little more of each - apparently you're not supposed to drink it. The meals were really awesome and if you can finish what you've been given, you've gotta a problem, bro. Well, I finished mine but my wife had lunch the next day on the leftovers. I didn't get any drinks because I made my own crappy margaritas at home. Order at least one margarita (I've had their drinks before, and they're good) each so you can enjoy it with your meal; otherwise, you may end up drinking straight tequila, like me. Not a good idea on a Sunday, but it seemed like a great idea at the time. La Tolteca is worth it. Take it from someone who should be eating Nutrisystem. read more

It was Tuesday so that definitely meant Taco Tuesday! We decided to give La Tolteca a try after passing by so many times on our way home. The ambiance is most definitely a Mexican restaurant with beautiful murals at every booth and fun streamers hanging from the ceiling. The servers sang happy birthday several times and definitely made it a fun and happy atmosphere to relax. Immediately to start we were brought very fresh chips and salsa and a white cream sauce for dipping. Our server came quickly and was very attentive the entire time. The menu is very extensive and it took us quite a while to finally settle on Pork Carnitas and Texas Fajitas and boy was it delicious! The carnitas were super tender and fell apart easily and came with a healthy portion of rice, refried beans and pico de gallo. The fajitas came out sizzling and had a nice mix of chicken, beef and shrimp with sautéed onions and peppers. I would definitely recommend for your next Mexican food craving! read more

I had the Gordo Burrito, and usually, I'm hesitant about ordering burritos bc I usually find the chicken too dry and or bland. This was not an issue at all here. I've always wondered why Mexican spots never include crunchy tacos on their menus. I legit have been searching for them for a few months now. I didn't want any of the fast food style and I didn't want soft tacos, and I didn't feel like making my own (which by the way, I make some bomb tacos...IJS) but I wanted CRUNCHY TACOS from an authentic Mexican restaurant! Is that so hard to ask?! Apparently not for La Tolteca, because they offer them on their menu. SCORE! My interest had been piqued every since Friendly's closed and La Tolteca opened up in its place. I've heard mixed reviews but I always have to check out restaurants for myself. Since I didn't have time to dine-in, I called my order in for carry-out. I ordered the "#117 Yolandas" which includes 3 chicken enchiladas with all the fixin's and rice. I had the option of the green or red sauce. I chose green on the strength of the employee I spoke to. The young lady that took my order was super friendly and gave me a few suggestions on the phone. I went to pick-up my food and was told to wait for a few minutes because they wanted to assemble my tacos at the very last minute so they wouldn't get soggy. I thought, gee, that's a great idea. Well, it would have been a great idea had it worked, but it didn't. When I got home all of the tacos were soggy and falling apart. I had to eat the taco with a fork. Sigh! It then dawned on me that this is probably the reason why crunchy tacos are never on Mexican restaurant menus. It ruined my craving for crunchy tacos. I then moved over to the enchiladas. They were pretty tasty, but didn't have enough of the green sauce. I apparently need to ask for extra sauce because these were kind of dry. I don't want them to be drenched, but at least a little saucy. The meal also came with chips, salsa and some type of queso. The salsa was cool but the queso had a weird taste. Can't say it was my favorite. All and all, the meal was A-Okay. Was it my favorite Mexican meal ever - no. Could I come back and try some of their other options - yes. Update: I have recently been messaged by someone named Alfonso M. telling me I should figure out the cost of shipping before calling the furniture cheap.. Seriously?!!! Yelp is a place that people should be free to give honest and raw opinions and that is what I did.. and I believe I rated it very fairly. I really hope this is not a business owner or anyone associated. I will keep my stars at 3 and not fault the restaurant for this. Had high hopes for this place but I'm not impressed. Food- Its fine, not crazy good by any means. They give you large portions which is good. I typically get the shrimp quesadilla. The margarita was huge which is nice, but just okay tasting for me. I will say the tableside guac is cool and good! I wish they didn't have that tip jar because I don't often have cash on me so it makes things difficult. Atmosphere- Disappointing. This restaurant replaced Friendly's..not a thing changed with the layout the only difference is a black ceiling and Mexican style booths that are cheaper looking (in my opinion). It's not well lit inside. I was hoping for a new fresh look but can't see any way they'll do better than Friendly's. No outdoor seating is a bummer. read more
