I'm originally from South GA and grew up on ribs and collard greens. I've just got to say I just got the ribs and a side of collards and these are the best ribs I've ever had in my life! . I found food heaven. The ambiance was very welcoming, our waitress Raven was so nice and pleasant. They introduced a few extra items that haven't made their way onto the main menu yet. When we were sat at the table she instantly told them to us. I immediately went for the "chit'lins". The BEST I've ever had, hands down! They were melt in your mouth good My fiancé had the rib tips i also ordered the ribs for home. Our sides consisted of mac n cheese collard greens fried green tomatoes and sweet potatoes. Everything was DELICIOUS. Definitely a place i could eat once a week and never grow tired of. Wow! I have driven past LA Soul on Tallmadge Ave for months, making a mental note to try it. Why did I wait so long?! I ordered take out - but the dining room is very nice, and I would be totally comfortable eating it there. On to the food: Their ribs are perfection!! Smoky, sweet and very meaty with a nice spice to them, adding the perfect "bite" to their sauce. Pure heaven! I have never been a big fan of okra, but I thought that I have probably never had it prepared properly. I was correct. Deep fried, it isn't that different than fried mushrooms, which I do enjoy. My only thought to improve it would be to serve it with a dipping sauce of some kind. Still, very good. The sweet cornbread muffins were a tad more dense than I like, but the flavor was there. But oh my Gawd!!- the peach cobbler is To. Die. For! (But I hope I don't - I definitely want to go back for more!!) Service was very friendly and fast, and the restaurant is very clean. One thing I've always hated about Akron is the lack of good soul food/bbq restaurants. Well all that has changed with this restaurant. Their food is delicious!! I had rib tips with greens and okra. It tasted just like a Southern home cooked meal. I cheated on my diet and had a piece of yellow cake with chocolate icing and it was fantastic!! They are a tad pricing for the location but you get what you pay for. read more

This place is right down the road from my restaurant. I tell my customers all the time about how great the smoked brisket and chicken is. They put an amazing amount of care and time into preparation. The staff is friendly and like family. Very warm. I am glad to have an amazing neighbor next to us. Tallmadge Avenue has quietly transformed into a diverse multi cultural restaurant destination. It is a refreshing change to the same old boring corporate franchises at Chapel Hill. LA Soul has contributed greatly to this. Keep up the good work guys. Woo woo! read more

This place gets as many thumbs down and I could give. It's a FILTHY, DISGUSTING, & DOWN RIGHT NASTY! Upon walking in my shoes were sticking to the floor. There is nothing appealing about this establishment. Food was terrible, cornbread was as hard as a brick, and the waitress who I believe was the owner was not very professional or polite. I was very excited to go to this location as I used to live in Georgia and missed that southern home style cooking. Upon walking in the place isn't the most aesthetically pleasing but I had hopes thinking, "Maybe it looks like a dump but it's one of those 'Hole in the wall best food you ever tasted' type of deals" My flip flops were sticking to the floor and at one point as I walked my shoe stuck to the floor and my foot slipped out. The area was dirty and the salt and pepper shakers were adorable but didn't look very sanitary. I ordered $5 lunch, pulled pork and fries for my son. I ordered myself the rib tips but I had to try the corn bread, candied sweet potatoes, collard greens and Mac N Cheese. The ribs were all bone, they were chewy almost like weren't cooked right and they did have a charbroiled flavor to them (which most love but I'm not most) had I of known it was heavily smoked flavor I wouldn't have ordered. It was so strong my hands even after washing smelled like wood chips. Anyways, the taste just wasn't there and I was more disappointed in the lack of meat. I tried my sons pulled pork, it was very dry. I tasted the sweet potatoes which were actually really good, then I took a bite of the Mac n cheese. I'll tell you what if I ever have a Mac n cheese craving id stop here just for that and order a large side because the Mac n Cheese was amazing. My biggest disappointment aside from the ribs was the extremely DRY unsweetened flavorless cornbread. I don't usually write reviews but I was genuinely excited for this experience and was more disappointed in the food than anything so if i could save others from this disappointment i will. Don't order the sweet tea, unless you like citrus flavored sweet tea. I'm a firm believer in trying things for yourself and not listening to reviews just make up your own mind. But if I could give anyone just a tad bit of a warning it would be don't go in there with expectations. I also want to mention that upon peaking in the back as you can see the open kitchen... there's some serious cleaning that needs done that alone made me queasy just working in the food industry and looking at something that doesn't seem sanitary to add to my feet sticking to the floor. I decided to try this place out for the first time on Friday wanting some real food and this place did not disappoint! I ordered the whiting special which despite all the bones was amazing, the catfish dinner for my husband which he thought was really good, two wing specials which my daughter and mother devoured, and the soul rolls with collard greens and the sauce was to die for! My Family visited for the Easter Sunday Buffet, which was alright. Customer Service ruined our visit, apparently it was to much trouble for a waitress to turn the tv to the game, her words " I don't have time to stand here and turn the channel". Dont waste your money or time on this place. Stale, old, nasty, dirty, rude, and did i say Nasty. Whiting fish dinner with fries were over cooked and burned, no flavor....Yuck. Ribs were old and dry. Who puts sugar in their macaroni and cheese ? I'll wait, I have time...... Greens were greasy and disgusting. Peach Cobbler tasted like a mouthfull of grease....You guys really should be ashamed of yourselves...SMH. and last but not least the pound cake was so dry and old...We had to wait an hour for our food. The ultimate best soul food hands down. First experience will most definitely bring us back again. I had the brisket dinner with mac n cheese, dirty rice and corn bread. The hubster had ribs, baked beans, mac n cheese and corn bread. We were both very impressed. The meat was cooked to perfection. The mac n cheese was over the top delicious. It was all cooked with care and done expertly. The portions were out of this world. Between the two of us, we each had enough leftover for another meal. Staff was very pleasant and welcoming. Well I heard a lot about this place so I finally stopped. The place is super clean and I would've been fine dining in but I took my donner to go. I think the food is over hyped. The ribs were just OK and drowned in way too much sauce and the sauce wasn't that great. I ordered Mac &cheese and greens for my sides. The macaroni was pretty good, but the greens were very bland. The corn muffin that came with my meal was old and stale. I hope this isn't one of those places that drew people in to establish a customer base and now they don't care about their food quality. The peach cobbler everyone raved about was just mediocre as well. I believe in second chances and will write an updated review when I have another visit. Their ribs are smoked rather than grilled, and I honestly think that's their biggest flaw' I couldn't even taste meat all I tasted was smoke and they are stingy with the sauce that's actually delicious. Love this place. Desserts are awesome, especially the caramel cake. The owner could seriously have a bakery as well as the restaurant.

Right around the corner from work so I go often. Never disappointed! Everything is so tasty and the servers are so polite. Love the okra and catfish. The bbq is all smoked and delicious. OMG. This place is like going to your mom or gram's house, filling a plate & knowing everything on there is going to be gooood. I had the perch, mac n cheese, collard greens & pecan pie. My husband had the catfish, fries & bbq sauce, soup beans & banana pudding. Every single thing was sooooo good. They had a buffet too that we plan on coming back for. The most delicious soul food that we've had since moving to Ohio from the South. The pulled pork was tender, juicy, and paired well with the sweet bbq. The fried catfish had an amazing crispy flavorful coating that didn't mask the fish. Tried this place recently and was not disappointed. Got the sampler platter that included ribs, chicken and brisket. I decided to try this place last week and let's just say IVE been back a few times since. OMG the food is excellent. Great service too. The only thing that I might suggest is lowering the price of your buffet. Golden corral and Cathedral buffet are 11.99 with a whole lot of options. Tried this for the first time last week! I got it to go so it probably would taste a little different then eating it fresh off from the kitchen but it was still great! I got the pulled pork lunch special sandwich for five dollars and added some Mac and cheese! I recommend the it all! I wasn't big on the sweet tea but I'm also very picky with sweet tea. I read reviews on Yelp and was really hoping to find a GOOD BBQ joint in the Akron area. Mission accomplished! Good food and friendly staff. I had the brisket sandwich (soft, tender brisket) and the 1/2 slab of beef ribs. Ribs were hot and cooked perfectly, I really like their BBQ sauce, sweet and tangy.
