Food is pretty much the same as always, but they really need a supervisor in the kitchen. Everyone is moving like they're underwater, and have no reason to hurry. If this was a factory, it would fail. Like most other businesses in Barberton, they exist only because they've been here forever and they're like the only game in town. They won't be here long unless they get moving- this is one establishment that needs competition BAD! The floors are sticky. The prices are way too high, and the quality is inconsistent- sometimes the chicken is raw, and sometimes even a chicken breast is so dry it's hard to swallow. Service? Well, I am from Southern California... by way of Oklahoma and Mississippi and we all know how to fry chicken and season it to the tea! We came out to Ohio for a convention and was highly recommended this place. I'm so sorry, but it is like shake and bake with no soul. I will say that the fried pickles and the fried pretzel bread was amazing! In fact, they should use that batter on the chicken! This is not our average fried chicken. Ok. This is hard for me. Belgrades has been a family tradition for as far back as I can remember. I have avoided going for years because I just really don't like their food. I don't understand the hype around their chicken or their coleslaw. But....since we had family in from out of town for my mom's celebration of life, I (and my siblings) agreed to suck it up and go. I knew I didn't want the chicken so I scoured reviews on Yelp and Google Maps and decided to get the chicken dumpling soup and a side of hot sauce. I've heard mixed reviews about the hot sauce going downhill but it was actually the best I remember it ever tasting. And the chicken dumpling soup was really good. Someone at our table got the dumplings and after trying them, I ordered those as well. They are topped with the sauce from the chicken paprikash and we're VERY good . I still rate this a 3 star bc the bathroom wasn't very tidy, your shoes stick to the floor when you walk through the dining room and their main food item is really not that great. Excellent food! The staff is super nice & helpful. I ate the grilled chicken & fries and really enjoyed my meal. The chicken was tender, and fries were hot. I also ate the cold slaw, and green beans, which were delicious too. The bread was a perfect accompaniment to my meal. The friends I was with enjoyed their food too. They ordered the homemade dumplings and fried chicken. We all had a good time eating here. Portions are large, so we had leftovers to take home. Everything re-heated well the next day. This is kind of place that I would say has a very like a local very hometown kind of Filta it. The food is like it's you know a freshly made a delicious especially oh the coleslaw made me a believer first of all. I'm so used to the creamy coleslaw I didn't realize that they didn't put any like mayonnaise in it and it was still good so yeah they get extra points for that and the servers there especially the I don't know. I hadn't been here in awhile, but the chicken was just as I had remembered it. Crispy and flavorful on the outside and moist on the inside. Hot sauce was kickin' and the coleslaw was delicious as usual. I use the fries as vessels for the hot sauce. I don't know why it tastes so good over fries but it just does. Now, I'm not gonna remove a star or anything, but the ambiance is a little dated. The lights are a little too bright. The service is a little too slow (albeit very friendly!) I have been going to Belgrade's since I was a child. Quality of service has gone down hill since they put a new manager in place. The staff are all still wonderful but it's clear there are issues. Last time I was there they had no placemats and no brown bread. When we checked out we were told they would no longer honor our punch cards. We placed a rather large order over the phone for pickup when some family came to visit. They told us a time to come get it, we showed up at said time and waited no more than 2-3 minutes to get our food. The gentleman working rang us out and we were on our way. The food itself was okay. I wasn't enamored by it, but didn't dislike it. I did decide to try something new; so that could be on me. I did try a few bites of things from other family members and it was good. We also got a few things in our bag that we didn't order. Whether intentional or not, it was nice to receive a few extra sides. I don't think anyone disliked their food so would definitely stop by again whether intention person or takeout. Made a reservation for Sunday at 5:45. Our party consisted of 9 adults and 5 kids. Took a good 20 minutes to even be greeted and take our drink order, to the point where we made sure to order our food as well when the server finally came. Assume our order went in around 6:15-20. Bread came out quickly as well as some of the soups and sides. After that, we waited almost an hour/hour 15 for the rest of the food to come out. The only time we received an update that the "kitchen messed up, it's not my fault" was when someone from our table went to the server to request an update (as they had a plane to catch and had to take their food to go lol). We didn't receive our food until 7:30-45 (restaurant closes at 7:30). Chicken was hot (because it was just made) but some of the sides were freezing cold (the Mac and cheese & mashed potatoes). Best food items we had, in my opinion, was the coleslaw and the dumpling soup. We also didn't get refills until the food was already out. Now, I could understand this for a jam packed restaurant, this was anything but. When we came there was probably a total of 10 maybe 15 tables in the entire restaurant, us being the largest party. Yes we were given a 20% discount for the trouble, which was appreciated and necessary, but we also had to ask for it.... I know this place is an Akron/Barberton staple but somethings gotta give with the service and the kitchen running smoothly. Came here after BF read all the rave reviews but we were immensely disappointed. I'm a fried chicken lover and while nothing will ever compare with Korean fried chicken or Japanese karaage, I thought I'd give this a fair shot, at least. The building is so weird--like the inside of a fussy old grandma's house mixed with low ceilings, bad ventilation, low lighting, cheap diner furniture and a musty smell. On a Saturday night, we waited about 15 minutes to be seated. Fine, I suppose, for such a hoppin' place, but if they close at 7:30pm, I don't see how anyone will be served even if they come at 6pm. After sitting down, we weren't checked on until another 5 minutes later. Our waitress put in our order and then ensued close to 30 minutes of waiting. Free sliced bread was offered but I wonder why our sides couldn't have come faster? My so-called side salad was the saddest excuse for a salad ever. It was 4 thin slices of white onion, half a slice of tomato, 2 nibs of green pepper and the rest watery iceberg lettuce. Waitress never asked me what dressing I wanted so that took another round of waiting to get to. My BF got his food first--he ordered chicken backs (due to recommendations from reviews) and let's just say no one should ever order these. There is absolutely no meat and all breading. The breading is bread crumbs instead of a flavorful batter and it is heavy, doesn't stick to the chicken and something you can get from a processed frozen meats section at Walmart. A bone got lodged in his tooth and even 5 chicken backs wasn't really much food at all. My order of dark meat in the regular portion never arrived at all. Our server didn't note it down at all...so it was yet another 8 minutes waiting for that order. They subbed a chicken back for a drumstick (wrong call) and it just ruined the meal. The coleslaw--vinegar based and probably the best thing about this place. The "hot sauce" is just watery salsa with rice in it. Random! The fries were soooo disappointing. I saw everyone else's plate and they were thick and crunchy looking but when I received my basket, they were soggy, room temperature and literally all the ends and waste pieces instead of chunky middle ones. I was the only non-white person in the entire place so not sure if someone just didn't like me or I had bad luck or what...not a great experience. Not coming here and don't recommend it at all. Giant Eagle has a much better 8-pc fried chicken meal in their prepared section that you don't have to wait 50 minutes to eat. read more

I have been to Belgrades since they began with $1.00 dinners. It's always the same. Fairly good. Usually ....lately I order takeout. The decor / ambiance however hasn't kept up with price increases. It looks rather neglected and there is a unpleasant Odor that hits as soon as you come in. The food is okay, Dinner will cost about $20 per person and there are several options. Chicken /fish, hot sauce, potatoes, and coleslaw are the most popular . Locals are very loyal to their restaurant of choice so I imagine this review won't change anyone's mind but if you're not a local, please know that Barberton has many chicken dinner restaurants so I would suggest to try others as well . read more

For years, Belgrade s was THE place for a great chicken dinner. I've come to the conclusion that Belgrade's is not all that great. First of all, the portions are really small. Am I eating pigeon wings, cause they are tiny. Phil's favorite, chicken backs, have also diminished. What the what? Paying way too much for skimpy chicken. As for the sides, best hot rice. The best. Eating in? Order the fries, but eat them fast, because they get cold fast. Never order fries to go. Coleslaw, the best vinegar based slaw I've ever had. Because of Belgrade's recipe, I won't eat mayonnaise based slaw again. Service, slow. I don't think they've changed the restaurant in years, same wood paneling and pictures, is the owner really related to those pictured? Been here a handful of times over the last 10 years. But it's been way precovid since my last visit. So at least a good 3 years. Decided to get some take out on a Sunday later afternoon. Got a Deluxe take out. 45 min wait at least for chicken we were told. AND just personal opinion but pretty pricey for a takeout option on this Deluxe menu almost $42. Wow! I think that's pretty pricey. But there prices were always kinda high in my opinion. Chicken is good. We got 13 pieces in the bucket. Kinda hard to tell what chicken part was what cuz of the thick breading. It's good. Very crunchy and chicken is moist. Sides were fries. Fresh cut fries but as a carry out item it will get really cold. So you have to reheat. Not sure if the mashed potato would be better. The hot rice is good. Love that. And the cole slaw is vinegar based and really good! To me because of the cost factor it is a treat. And it's better to eat there. We are taking it home from quite a distance so the sides couldn't hold up. Chicken a bit cold is fine. Sides are not. So eat there unless you live close. I saw chicken paprikash on the menu. I grew up in Massillon not close to here but enjoyable ride with parents when I knew a delicious chicken dinner was waiting for me. This time was no different. This is on my bucket list forever. Loved every time I come. Chicken has a flavor like no other chicken in the eastern USA. In more than a half century, I have tasted all the chicken in this area. And Belgrade had lived up to it's reputation. The rest of the area restaurants have lost the service and good tasting chicken, slaw, and hot rice that are an unbeatable combo. Belgrade Gardens is family owned and operated. They have been serving really delicious fried chicken dinners since 1933. Having grown up in the area, I ate at Belgrade Gardens with my family many times so I looked forward to visiting them again when I was back home for a recent visit. We visited on a Sunday after church. The restaurant was pretty full but our party of ten didn't have to wait long to be seated in one of their small private dining rooms. Service was friendly and efficient throughout our visit. Courses were served at a proper pace and drinks were refilled as needed. Belgrade Gardens still serves complimentary bread with meals so fresh slices were delivered to the table shortly after we were seated. Two types of bread slices were served (white and rye) with whipped butter. I always appreciate good fresh bread with real soft and spreadable butter so I found it very enjoyable. throughout my younger years when our family would regularly dine here, I always ordered the same thing. I saw no reason to change now. Chicken dinners are served with your choice of three side dishes so it was fried chicken, coleslaw, french fries and hot sauce. The coleslaw was served first. I am a lover of coleslaw. I generally prefer the creamy style but the vinegar-based coleslaw served at Belgrade Gardens is some of the best I've ever had with just a little tang and so much wonderful flavor. The fried chicken was just as delicious as I remembered. Crispy on the outside with just the right amount of breading, moist and flavorful on the inside. It was a real delight for me. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed their fresh cut french fries, they were seasoned just right and oh so delicious. The hot sauce (think rice in a spicy tomato based sauce) is out of this world. After eating it I remembered why it was always one of my favorites, it has just the right amount of spice and is so very delicious. I really enjoyed my meal as did everyone else in my party. I would break down my dining experience as follows. Service - 5 stars Bread and Butter - 4 stars Coleslaw - 5 stars + Fried Chicken - 4.5 stars French Fries - 4.5 stars Hot Sauce - 5 stars + I haven't eaten here in years as my trips back home are usually pretty short and time is precious but after having such a wonderful meal I will be sure to return more often when I am back home in Ohio visiting family. read more
