    Sinigang na bangus (Milkfish)
    Isabella B.

Tried this place for the first time with friends earlier today. I ordered Sinigang na Bangus (Milkfish) with garlic rice and I thought it was really good. I felt comforted by the sourness of the Sinigang soup after feeling stressed about my final exam. My friends ordered Tapsilog and Tocilog (tapa and tocino with garlic fried rice) and I was able to try them. The tapa was alright, but the tocino was very delicious. I liked how the tocino wasn't fatty at all. I would recommend the Sinigang and Tocilog to other friends/my family. The service was great. Our server was nice and accommodated us quickly when we needed something. The wait time for the food we ordered wasn't so bad. I also liked the ambiance of the restaurant because it felt like I was inside a family friend's house, which was unique to me. The food is a little on the pricier side for Filipino food, but overall I had a great experience dining here.

I came with my partner and mother-in-law. We've been in the hunt to find authentic filipino food that reminds them of home. We all agreed after our meal, we would come back again to try their palabok! We also had their buchon with their homemade liver sauce--incredible btw. I forgot to take a photo, because we were busy eating. For my partner and his mom, the ambiance felt like they were back home in the Philippines. 10/10 recommend trying La Rose Cafe out.

    Halo-halo

Food was delicious! The owner and staff were attentive, polite and welcoming. Ambiance was nice and cozy. Great place for casual meals and special occasions. We had Miki bihon, dinuguan, daing Bangus, Buchon. Then we had halo-halo for dessert- it was decadent! It's loaded and enough to share for 4! We ordered empanadas to go as we were all full. Glad we did coz they're delectable!

I've heard about this spot for a while. I was in the area and finally had a chance to check it out -- here was my experience. AMBIANCE Parking: Welcome to Hollywood! It can get busy, but there's usually metered parking around the area if you're patient. Seating: Mostly indoor seating with room for around 50 people. Works well for both small and larger groups. Vibes: This isn't the flashy side of Hollywood, but it's still surrounded by plenty of lively spots and things to do. The restaurant itself feels like stepping into a Filipino American home -- a mix of Filipino cultural touches alongside European-style artwork and framed articles highlighting the restaurant's history and recognition. It gives the space a lived-in, personal feel. Great for a food adventure, meeting up with friends, or even settling in for a casual meal while getting some work done. FOOD / DRINKS Dinuguan (Recommend) Tangy, slightly sour, and earthy -- classic Filipino black pudding stew with tender pork chunks. It's one of those dishes that's deeply traditional and packed with iron-rich flavor. If you're familiar with Filipino cuisine, this one hits the mark. Chicken Inasal (Recommend) Nicely charred and juicy grilled chicken with saucy flavors throughout. Simple, satisfying, and well-executed. Calamansi with Honey (Recommend) Sweet, citrusy, and refreshing. The calamansi gives it that bright Filipino citrus flavor, while the honey smooths everything out nicely. SERVICE Franco was great -- friendly and attentive without being overbearing. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Delicious food, solid variety, and a pleasant overall experience. I tend to be a tougher critic when it comes to Filipino food, but this place delivered. The dishes had good presentation, quality ingredients, and flavors that reflect Filipino provincial cooking. Props to the LA Rose Cafe team for continuing to honor Lemuel Balagot's legacy. Looking forward to coming back. #FilipinoFoodMovement #RepresentAZN TIPS * Check their website or IG for seasonal specials. * https://www.ft.com/content/9bfd3cc3-1d5f-4173-9e67-c4d942652382

    Buchon (1/2 lb)

Finally got to try LA Rose Cafe after seeing so many good videos about it on insta/tiktok and it did not disappoint. From the moment you walk in, it feels like you're entering your Lola's house with the cozy and design (it was so cute with Christmas decoration, especially) We came with a party of 6 and we were able to book a reservation for 11am on a Saturday. Service was kind and quick! We ordered: - Tapa Plate - Tocino Plate - Oxtail Kare-Kare - Sweet & Sour Sole Fish - Daing - 1/2 lb Buchon - sides of garlic rice for those who didn't get a plate Everything was delicious and felt so homey! My favorite was the Sweet & Sour Sole Fish bc it had a perfect tempura batter flake and came with 2 sauces (sweet and sour & a tempura like sauce). Folks who ordered individual plates said the tapa and tocino were also very good. I loved that the had different kinds of vinegar on the table (forgot to take a pic) There were so many things I wanted to try from the menu so I will definitely be back again, thank you!

I'm sorry but me and my wife were disappointed when we came for brunch last Friday. Coming in here felt like being at our nanay's home; a traditional Filipino home with random stuff and paintings on the wall. Nothing against it, it was just slightly odd. Not to mention, the bathroom area was pretty dirty with sewer water on the tile floors from the rain, etc. it felt icky. As we sat down, it took a long while for us to order. Maybe because there was only one person? There was literally only one cook as well which slowed things down. As we ordered, they had ran out of Sisig which I really wanted to try; I wish they had warned us from the start or had a notice up so guests knew. When the food came out, I thought their "famous empanadas" were dry and bland. They were so pale and weren't baked correctly. These definitely needed their house hot sauce for more flavor and taste. These DID NOT taste well with their house made sweet mustard sauce. Their cebu style lechon tasted like regular lechon kawali and their longanisa was so cold and dry, we had to tell them to re cook it. They literally threw it back into the fryer and just over cooked it to where it was burnt. This was a bad experience for us and we'll not be coming back. To be Filipino, I'm a bit shocked that this place did not execute especially since there's not that many Filipino restaurants around. Not good.

Such a cute restaurant. Friendly servers and good Filipino food. Excellent brunch place. Street parking only.

Craving for bangsilog and decided to try La Rose -- and wow, it did not disappoint! The bangsilog was so yummy, and the longganisa was equally delicious. We finished off with their ensaymada for dessert, which was soft, buttery, and absolutely perfect. The restaurant has such a warm, classic vibe, and Gabriel was super sweet and attentive -- truly great service! Hands down, one of the best Filipino restaurants in the area. There's street parking available, and while the outside of the building could use a little tidying up, the restaurant itself is clean and well-kept inside. Definitely coming back soon!. Thank you!

Ivan craving some really good chicken adobo for a long time as my cousins are Filipino and I only got good adobo at their house when Mom made it. Well if you eat here, Mama will make it for you too! It was a very generous portion of dark meat chicken in a really nice adobo sauce. It came with some grilled vegetables and a big heaping bowl of white rice. Not a tiny little bowl of white rice but old school two decades ago amount. And then the price can't be beat. My whole meal which I was full at the end was 19 dollars and 95 cents. And they do a really good job of giving you some flavored water that's included. With mint and lemon. Just really nice touches. The decor is amazing, you feel like you're tita's living room and eating at her kitchen. Highly recommended.

cool experience shoutout elise and all the filipinos xD can get very messy and chaotic but it's fun sharing family style and eating with ma hands like a true southeast asian keke food wise it was sooo yommy especially the lechon, garlic rice, crispy fried fish, as well as the bangus with vinegar, etc. the shrimp and veggies were okay to me since they're just sautéed. the dessert halo-halo was sweetening and a satisfying way to end the meal too.

I'll rate it 3.5. I Visited with my daughter as I was craving Filipino food. Restaurant on corner not much of a curbside appeal. Greeted by a waiter/host. The place was bigger than I thought . High ceilings with a piano. Decorated ornately - Filipino style. We waited awhile to give our order. I ad to call another waiter to let them know we were ready to order. We ordered the 1/2 lb lechon combo plate and pancit palabok. Sizes were reasonable for price. There were 2 of us and it filled us up. They provided infused lemon cucumber water. I really enjoyed the vinegary sauce on the table over the hot tomato sauce. The stirfry veggies on combo plate was like it came from A frozen bag. The garlic rice flavorful. The lechon so-so( too Hard and dry) but enjoyed the sauce that came with. We both enjoyed the palabok with shrimp. . We didn't order any dessert but the halo halo bowl was huge /colorful and looked like it could serve 4 . people! I'll come next time for the dessert. People were nice and polite. But, service was slow. Slow to put in order and to get our check. The bathroom needs an update! It's old and unclean Only street parking and had a difficult time to find one on a Sunday afternoon.

    Tom S.

Name does not indicate Filipino food. The palabok was smokey and delicious. Lechon melts in your mouth. I had bangus breakfast with eggs. Cantaloupe and calamansi drinks delicious! Parking limited.

    Sisig Calamansi Juice
    Josh N.

The Sisig was good! The presentation of the food was well done, the food comes out nice & hot, the drink options are right on par for a Filipino restaurant. The Calamansi juice wasn't too bland or too sweet, it was just right. The server was very good about coming out to check on us and asking if we needed anything and removing anything that no longer needed to be on the table. The outdoor seating was a nice touch to complete the experience for a nice lunch in LA!

The food was amazing, but the atmosphere was what really made the night special. And Chris, who took care of us, exceeded our expectations with his wonderful service. At first, I was a little worried that the portions might be too small, but we ended up leaving with our bellies full and very happy! We had such a great time and will definitely be coming back. Next time, I'd love to bring my parents and share this experience with them. Highly recommend!

It's where they grill certain items, lobster, ribeye, skirt steak, the intestinal part of a chicken (?). So, not tacos but grilled meats so we stayed. twist. First of all, it's a lovely space. In a not very obvious area of DTLA, next to Urth Cafe but no other restaurants. We didn't have reservations so we had the option of sitting at the bar or following the waitress to a back room area instead of the front room that is visible to everyone. My son is a minor, so to the back we went! Seriously, the closer we got to the back room the more I felt I had been cast in "The Chef." Scary! Lol! The back room is black. Blackout black! Black tablecloths, walls, chairs, dark, low light. Very luxurious and open space. Which - because it wasn't full at the time - felt a bit like being in the film, The Menu." A bit too upscale and empty to feel comfortable. More guests arrived later, a large table, so that was more comforting. The food: Recommended *Kara Kara Tamales: braised oxtail with a peanut butter sauce. Wow! The taste was wonderful! Hard to explain but Filipino/African food meets Latin food. It was on the "shared plate" menu, which to me means it will be a lot. But the 2 tamales were not very big. Still, they were so rich that the 2 really were sufficient to share. Quite filling. I couldn't get enough of the sauce! *Crab fried rice: Very tasty and generous portion. Plenty share! Not recommended: The street eats menu. Now, this is what pulled us in - the sights and smells of the food being grilled outside the restaurant. Most of which was on this meme. Like a tasting menu. But for price to portion ratio, it simply isn't worth it. I ordered the skirt steak. 4 oz, cut in half. Cooked down to what looked like .5 oz! Each on a toothpick sitting in a paper plate (or maybe it was cupcake holder?) IDK. I just know it wasn't a good presentation and the taste wasn't memorable. Regular. More grill smell than taste. Not at all worth $8. Service: Really nice. And mostly good. Though they did fail short by (1) Using only small appetizer size plates and (2) Not bringing a fresh plate to eat the crab fried rice on after the peanut butter sauce laced tamale appetizer was eaten. The server brought the fried rice, but didn't bother to give us fresh plates (nor silverware). My son was mortified when I grabbed a plate from one of the empty tables! (Teenager energy on full effect). But after initial attentive service, the variety of different servers whizzing by didn't stop to ask if we needed anything. And I sat waiting at least 8 minutes staring at the rice. I assured my young man that the servers would be fine with me getting another plate to save them from having to. And once I did, he suddenly started eating from my plate of my peanut butter free fried rice. And of course, when a server did attend to us and I let her know, she was glad I took matters into my own hands instead of not eating for 15 minutes. Thoughts: Go for dinner, and order from the full dinner menu, skip the skimpy street eats menu. With reservations you can sit in the main restaurant area that has some view to the outdoors. Without it - back to the black room you go! Know that it will be expensive. And it will be original. Not sure I'll go back. It's very "special occasion" upscale dining. But If I do it'll be with reservations. The meal was memorable and worth experiencing.

4.5 stars. Sorry,…read moreguys - I'm still catching up on my reviews and am kicking myself for failing to write this before Spoon & Pork permanently shut its doors. This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.

As a second-generation Filipino-American, I would be lying if I didn't say that I had rather high expectations for Spoon & Pork, but as always, I try my best to keep any biases aside & curb any + all expectations. That said, Spoon & Pork is quite the anomaly. What I mean by that is that you have the hallmarks of any typical Filipino restaurant: simple interiors with modest decor, & beyond hospitable wait staff - especially our host, but the techniques & presentations of their dishes are something that you'd find at the highest of fine dining establishments. The irony is kind of nice because I don't feel so guilty about rocking a simple t-shirt + jeans, while enjoying what I'd expect to served at an establishment along Rodeo Dr. FOOD: Appetizer Lumpia Shanghai - 8.0 / 10 Perhaps the most famous of Filipino appetizers / street foods. I pride myself of bringing trays of these myself to any gathering because who doesn't love crispy, crunchy, meat-stuffed egg rolls that you can pop into your mouth? Here, the only real difference is that the individual pieces are longer that what you'd typically find. The pork + veggie dumpling is the same as elsewhere as well as your sweet + sour sauce. Nothing exactly to write home about, but delicious nonetheless Side Adobo Rice - 7.7 / 10 I feel like I've had this before & even made it myself. Simply put, imagine mixing plain, white rice into a cauldron of adobo broth. The very small pieces of meat are nice, but again, it's we're not exactly re-inventing the wheel here. It is a very nice upgrade vs. ordering your standard issue steamed (white) rice. Entrées Tapa - 9.0 / 10 A favorite of mine growing up as a kid. But whereas my mother would fry thin strips of beef, almost to a dehydrated crisp (think thicker, moister beef jerky), their rendition is quite different. Heartier chunks of premium quality beef, generously swimming in a broth of soy, vinegar, & garlic. This was personally my favorite dish of the night & a nice interpretation of a Filipino staple. The atchara (papaya, carrots, and red bell peppers, in tangy brine) provided a nice + refreshing counterpoint. Adobo Pork Belly - 8.9 / 10 If you ask anyone who knows anything about Filipino cuisine, the word "adobo" will almost always come to mind. But "Filipino style" adobo is quite different in meaning to its Spanish counterpart. In this case, we're referring to the classic preparation of any dish in a mixture of vinegar, soy sauce peppercorns, garlic, & bay leaves. Your boy definitely love pork belly (fatty unsmoked bacon of steroids), but the delicate pieces of meat smothered in the classic sauce was something of a revelaltion. I honestly didn't know how I haven't stumbled upon Pork Belly in Adobo (sauce) sooner than now. Highly recommended if you want to they the most classical Filipino flavor but with a modern take. As far as parking goes, availability is limited to the rather small number of spaces that they share with the fish taco shack immediately adjacent. But metered parking in aplenty. PRO TIP: Having actually lived about less than 100 yards away from this very restaurant (I moved away 1 year before they opened this location), drive up Westerly Terrace & you'll likely find some non-designated residential parking spots & just walk on over. Spoon & Pork are doing some very innovative things in Filipino cuisine. Combining modern techniques to traditional flavors. This place definitely deserves your business!

When we walked in, there was a full jazz band made up of what looked like high school students playing. Despite there only being a few families in the audience(presumably their parents), the energy was infectious with loud whoops and clapping every time someone finished a solo. I didn't know any of these kids but I was cheering the entire time. Everyone, including the other customers were very friendly. The food itself was incredible, super affordable with huge portions. Every dish we tried was so delicious, we couldn't stop talking about how good the food was. I ordered the Pork Sisig and it could've easily fed 3 people alone. Both of my roommates also ordered their own entrees and the portions were huge. Definitely a restaurant for sharing. The service was fantastic, the server was refilling my water cup every few minutes and incredibly attentive. While looking for a quick meal we came upon a Filipino feast with live music, a super positive atmosphere, and leftovers that will last us for days. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

I grew up eating and seem to be consistent each time I order. And they always provide friendly and professional customer service on the phone or in person. I highly recommend their Lumpia Shanghai and I am honestly pretty impressed with their Kare Kare, which is often a hit or miss at other locations, but here it is consistent both in flavor and portions. I ate here in person once years ago and usually do takeout. The ambience though is very nice and intimate and cozy... And I understand that they have live music from time to time. I highly recommend you give them a try!

The short rib ran us about $35. The sauces that accompanied the meal were also very tasty! It looks like they had a few of their bigger tables reserved for bigger parties, so that's nice. Parking on a weekday late afternoon was not bad on the street, but I can see how it may be hard to find parking some times.

We ordered four of the most ordered and highly revered items: tri tip, coconut beef adobo, smoked gouda mac, and the cornbread bibingka. * Tri tip: Ours was cold and not tender.. wasn't very flavorful either. Kinda tasted like the forgotten order that's been left drying on the counter for some time. The price is decent for an entree of tri tip though. Comes with a horseradish sauce + vinegar and bbq sauce on the side, but I didn't think any of these accompaniments were strong on their own. Made the tri tip better but not by much. * Coconut beef adobo: One of the better items. Beef chunks were melt in your mouth and the sauce was a good middle between savory and vinegary - balanced out by sweetness from the coconut. * Smoked gouda mac: Would not order again. The big shell macaroni noodles were soggy; the cheese sauce was mild in flavor, clumpy and not satisfying melty; lastly, the panko crust was just there and didn't add anything imo. * Cornbread bibingka: The other better dish of the night - very moist, muffin like crumb, and not too sweet or heavy. Portion is on the smaller side though. My bf who normally isn't a fan of cornbread enjoyed this!

Lasita has been on my list of restaurants to try for a while. I'm glad we made it there with a last…read moreminute reservation. This is located within the same plaza as Howlin' Rays and Tenren. We got seated right away in the "patio" even though we were a little early. We ordered shrimp chips, garlic fried rice, pork belly lechon and the chicken inasol. Everything tasted great, service was kind and friendly. Our order of the chips did not arrive and when we mentioned it to our server, the chips were brought to us at the end of the meal on the house. So thank you! It was also delicious! We are looking forward to returning to try other items on the menu.

It's hard for me to go out for Filipino food, considering my best friend is Filipina and I eat at her family's house, her Tia's house, her other Tia's house, her other Tia's house and many of cousin's houses. So it was difficult for me to pay for 1/4 of the portion, that's not homemade and in a busy restaurant. We ordered the veggie salad ($16), the half inasal chicken ($28), Lechon ($25), branzino ($34), garlic fried rice ($6), a small single serving of spicy vinegar ($2.50), I can buy a bottle of this spicy vinegar at the store for $2.50. mango coconut sago dessert ($14). Everything was OK, I've had a lot better, but it was worth trying. It made me realize how much I appreciate my best friend and her family and her extended family. I would rather drive 15 minutes West of Chinatown to Filipino town and get homemade Filipino food, made by people who love their culture and food with better portions and quarter of the price. But I did make a promise to my friend that I would go and try it out. And no, I will not go again, ever.
