I came back to La Piscina with friends recently and it's still lovely. Pricey for what you get but that's really the only con -- otherwise the staff are so kind, and I love the airy/light feel of both the patio and the inside area (since there are tons of windows/light). The wine and appetizers are very nice and easy to eat.
Come with an empty stomach because this food is soo good! Great spot for date night or to meet up with some friends, the Oaxaca cheese is 10/10 and the service is amazing. Can end the night at the hotel bar downstairs where you'll definitely find a crowd or some event.
Had a wonderful dinner on a Sunday evening. Weather was nice enough to sit outside on the beautiful patio! If you can get outside seating DO IT! Felt like I was on a beach vacation. Dinner took about an hour and a half total from start to finish. Our waitress was great ,although very busy throughout dinner, didn't feel like we were left hanging. Ordered the red snapper tacos and for $25 wished there were three since they are smaller. Tacos themselves were very fresh and solid taste wise. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake and was not overly rich, recommend if you don't want something sweet! Could've done without the pears though, seemed like an afterthought addition. They offer discounted valet parking for dinning with them ($27) or could chance it with street parking.
If you're looking for a cute, chic rooftop moment, this is it. La Piscina sits on the rooftop of the Austin Proper Hotel right by the pool, and the whole vibe is exactly what you want it to be. Effortlessly stylish, relaxed, and perfect for warmer weather days. I already know I want to come back and actually stay at the hotel because everything about it felt elevated but still fun. We stopped in for cocktails and kept it light with chips and dip, and somehow even that felt like a standout. The tortilla chips were so good, and as someone who takes her Mexican food seriously, that says a lot. I ordered the mimosarita, which was refreshing and just the right mix of playful and strong. This is one of those places you go for the ambiance but end up being pleasantly surprised by the details too.
I would love to come back, the drinks are spectacular and delicious/refreshing! I will come back!
Ambiance: 5/5: On the 5th floor of the Proper hotel, so you could some cute rooftop views if you sit in the patio. Restaurant is clean, nice, and feels so fancy. Service: 5/5: We went for dinner an hour before they closed, and the staff was so lovely and would check on us often. Even after they had closed, they offered us another round of drinks and dessert. We did not feel rushed at all. Drinks: 4/5: I ordered the frozen margarita and it tasted pretty good. Not much different from other frozen margs Ive had. Drinks are a bit pricey here. Food: 4.5/5: You get chips and salsa for the table. The green salsa was tasty, but the red was missing flavor and spice. The Shrimp Ceviche was good, but I did expect more flavor/freshness out of the dish. The star of the show was the Chicken fajitas with cheese! The chicken was so juicy and the cheese was so delicious. Every bite I took of my taco was amazing. Probably the best fajitas Ive had in Austin. Cannot wait to eat them again. Overall a bit pricey, but would definitely recommend! Cant wait to be back.
We've been to La Piscina a few times and have had absolutely stellar dining experience each time we're here. During this visit, I've only tried their seafood, not their meat, which is also great especially the steak fajita is usual pretty good too. From start to finish, the seafood was impeccable and clearly prepared with care. The star of the show was the grilled octopus. It was cooked to absolute perfection--incredibly tender, with a slight char that gave it a wonderful smoky depth. But what truly elevated the dish was the accompanying sauce. It was complex, savory with a hint of sweetness, and simply excellent, complementing the octopus without overpowering its delicate flavor. This dish comes with chícharron, a nice taxes texture to the dish. Besides with their complimentary chips snd salsa, we began with the oysters and they set the tone perfectly. They were the epitome of freshness: chilled, clean, and with that beautiful, sweet, briny flavor of the sea. The service was attentive and the atmosphere added to the overall lovely lunch. La Piscina clearly prioritizes quality ingredients and precise execution. I will be dreaming of that octopus and counting the days until I can return. Highly recommend!
Some of the best fajitas in Austin! We can for an early dinner yesterday and it was my bf's first time. The chicken and steak are my fav but we decided on the pineapple and ribeye fajitas. The steak was cooked perfectly but the flavor fell flat for us. Our rice and beans were okay as well! Our server was very polite and quick! I enjoyed the open kitchen concept and the interior compliments the hotel (Mexican modern vibes). The dining room can be a little tight in certain areas but we made it work. The patio is beautiful and I'm sure the view is great at night. We'll have to circle back and try other dishes!
Got a dinner reservation at La Piscina for my birthday weekend. The hotel was beautiful, service was fine, food portions were fine. Lobster nachos were good, the steak arrachera from the fajitas were incredibly tender & the chicken was very flavorful. The lamb chops were ok. The strawberry tres leches cake they gave me for my birthday was the best treat leches I've ever had. Would visit again
I stopped by for a birthday lunch and this place did not disappoint. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted and seated. Modern and cozy ambiance - perfect for working lunches, groups and special occasions. We ordered appetizers and their classic frozen margarita - delicious! For the main, I went with the red snapper tacos and it was amazing. Decent portions which left room for dessert. Overall pleasant experience - worth the visit.
Highly recommend this place. The food was delicious and they do not use seed oils. The steak fajitas were the best we have ever eaten anywhere and generous enough to split. The guacamole was mostly just avocado but they put pickled veggies with it and it will light you up! Our server was super sweet and did a good job and the place was slammed. It was SXSW weekend so all of the extra crazies were in town. The churros do not get cooked inside. They were wet and gummy. We mentioned to the manager and she was very apologetic and replaced them immediately. They were still raw inside but they were already removed from our ticket. The house margaritas were very good! Like I said, it was a crazy, busy weekend so the DJ had the tunes bumping really loudly. Not sure if it's always this way but with concrete ceilings and floors it was loud. Hard to hear server and each other. I'd still go back for the food.
Real rating is 3.5. Over all food and drinks were great. But there was a random dog running around the pool area that no one seemed to have control over. Kind of irritating when you're trying to relax. A cabana is the way to go but the seating for the couch slides all over the place. Service was great for how busy they were! Update- apparently the dog's owner is a resident of The Proper.....still not okay to be doing this....but grateful for the waitstaff for trying to manage such rude people
It doesn't really feel like a rooftop bar situation anyway, at least not in January. Most people are indoors dining, and the pool with the outdoor seating area were completely empty. It gave much more upscale restaurant energy than "grab a drink and enjoy the view" vibes. Be warned that they do fill up during peak dining hours on the weekends (make a resy in advance!)

My girlfriends and I have a monthly girls night where we book the hottest restaurants in Austin to try and La Piscina is my fav so far! We were greeted by friendly hosts and when they asked what we were celebrating, my friend said "divorce!" Lol (which was true for a couple of my friends there that night). After they seated us, the GM, manager, and staff came out with platters of champagne and a sweet note! It was a total surprise and really made our night start off on a happy note. The vibes was great, we were seated outside it covered and weather was perfect. I cannot express how good the food is here! Let's just say we were a small group snd ended up ordering 5 sizzling fajita platters because it was too good to stop eating. Even the chips were delicious! The lobster was so good we put in a second order. You wouldn't think women could eat this much lol they did have a prefixe menu but we veered off it and it sensed up being more expensive. If given the choice, I'd recommend doing the pre fixe menu if money is an issue but if you like to YOLO like my friends and I, just order anything that sounds good and you'll be glad you did. While it might be a little pricey, I thought the staff, quality of food, the Paloma & oysters were all top notch. For lunch, one order of fajitas & a side should be plenty. Walked in on a Friday afternoon with no reservation. It was busy, but they had a table available outside (covered patio)! The ambiance was amazing. Very well decorated and everything we got was great. Would definitely recommend and come back. Next time I'll order the guacamole as well! Looked amazing. Appetizer: Queso Fundito. Location: On the 5th floor inside the Austin Proper Hotel. Take the elevator Parking: Valet or nearby parking garages Food: Poached gulf shrimp soaked in coconut tiger milk! Lobster Quesadillas and the Table Top Sizzling Fajitas -- 10 oz. Prime steak arrachera al carbon fajitas (enough food for 3 people) with Bacon wrapped gulf shrimp. We also added scallops, but they tasted a bit odd. The flour tortillas are thick and soft... perfect with the tender prime steak! The cheese though... must be the secret ingredient that makes everything tastes so good! Drinks: Try the La Fresa if you like rosé. Elote Cobbler is interesting with bourbon and almond milk. The cocktails are very pricy. $18 for a cocktail, but the $44 meals come in great portions. Worth the try. Service: Seems understaffed, but we weren't in a hurry, so it was just fine. AC: Wasn't keeping the interior space cool enough bc they kept the door to the patio open. Would've preferred the strong AC system downstairs from the hotel's first level. read more
First timer here. Rating is for the 12oz pineapple & soya marinated ribeye fajita we ordered... spectacular!! 5/5 for the taste, presentation, and large portion. We were so full on this dish alone (and the complimentary chips and salsa). La Piscina is inside the Proper hotel, 5th floor. We love the atmosphere and decor as well as our lunch. Food 3/5, Service 3/5, Ambiance 4/5 Located on the 5th floor of the stunning Proper Hotel. We just had appetizers and snacks as we had reservations elsewhere for dinner so the 3/5 ranking is just for the limited items we had. I do have to say other tables ordered mains like table side fajitas which looked and smelled awesome. As for what we ordered: The guacamole was more like a crudite with pickled vegetables. The guacamole could have used more lime as the avocado was mostly seasoned with sea salt. Different. We also had the nachos with beef and it was again too salty. The queso was a queso fundino. The only problem is that it coagulated too soon. The margaritas were just fine for day drinking. Not too strong and the margarita was well balanced. Service was great. Our server was friendly but not as knowledgeable about what beers were local or not as Pinthouse's Electric Jellyfish is local. The restaurant is stunning as it is next to the pool and has a very vacation-y feel to it with lots of costal Mexican flaire. Prices are elevated. Everything was about $16-20. That's kind of expected at a hotel so nothing surprising and perhaps cheaper than other hotels in bigger cities. read more
Hands down the best fajitas anyone any my group has ever had!!! The steak is exceptional and prepared to perfection. Our waiter did a great job at providing suggestions. It did end up getting very busy by the end of the meal so the speed of the service slowed down. This is a great place to come for a special occasion as it is expensive however the ambiance and rooftop views are unmatched. We came to celebrate our friend's birthday and they made her feel so special by wishing her a good day and gifting her a delicious dessert. We sat inside and noticed it was extremely warm inside and by the end of the meal was ready to head outside to cool off. However, the delicious food made up for it! I recommend checking this place off your bucket list. read more

The Proper Hotel has gorgeous, tastefully eclectic decor throughout the property, and La Piscina is no exception. Located poolside on the fifth floor of the hotel, the restaurant will make you feel like you're on a tropical vacation rather than on a rooftop in downtown Austin. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and just about every item on the menu sounded good. We ordered: - Queso Fundido (5/5): It's hard to be picky about queso when you love cheese as much as me. The real star of this dish is the tortillas, which must be made fresh based on how soft they were. - Green Chorizo & Huitlacoche Quesadilla (4/5): I was expecting a lot for a $26 quesadilla, and this one did not disappoint. It's as big as the plate, and comes with a refreshing slaw on top to help balance all the cheese inside. - Steak Arrachera and Achiote Chicken Fajitas (no.10) (5/5): Now THIS is the correct ratio of cheese to meat. As a slow eater, I was so glad that the fajitas arrived on top of a grill setup so that the meat stayed hot and the cheese stayed melted throughout our meal. Honorable mention for the table chips and salsa, which were perfectly salted and crispy. Plus, who doesn't love when the chips are served warm! Full disclosure, I ate here after spending the weekend at a wellness retreat (aka eating unsalted, unseasoned, oil-free food), so any decent food would have tasted incredible. Still, if you're a fan of fajitas and pretty restaurants, definitely give this place a try! read more
I came here with 4 girlfriends at around 10 am on Sat. We really enjoyed our experience. I made a reservation in advance but there seemed to be plenty of brunch seating at that time. The ambiance is what really sets this place apart. As others have mentioned it's above the Peacock within the Austin Proper hotel. The place feels fresh and airy with beautiful desert coastal decor. The service was also great. Valet parking at the Austin Proper hotel is expensive, so I always ensure to find street parking in this part of downtown. Even if I end up walking a few blocks haha. Unlike the majority of places in Austin, your brunch meal includes complimentary chips and tasty salsas. I ordered the queso fundido which is usually a favorite at Mexican restaurants but to be honest it was a little lacking. I won't hold this against them as my queso fundido standard are high. My friend ordered the chilaquiles and they looked delicious so I highly recommend that plate for brunch. Overall looking forward to coming back with a group of girlfriends! read more
I came here for drinks and appetizers. Very cool spot! The staff was very friendly and attentive. It's very nicely decorated and the outside seating on the fifth floor by the pool was great. The vibe was chill and I made some friends at our neighboring table. I had the Old Fashioned and then switched to a Tito's and soda to honor Austin. I should have had a Topo Chico too in hindsight. ;-) The food was very good. The guac and chips were flavorful and the crudo was fresh and both went fast. read more

Overall it was a good experience - beautiful space, great food, nice ambiance. The staff was attentive however we did have an order mixup, hence the 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Along with drinks, appetizers, other entrees- we ordered 2 brunch fajitas ($32) which comes with eggs/hash browns. When we didn't receive our eggs/hash browns we asked about it and our server said "you ordered the brunch fajitas". I agreed, and said it comes with eggs/hash browns. She then states she entered the fajitas meal for us. Then asked us if we want to PLACE AN ORDER for eggs and hash browns. Very disappointed because I had been raving about the brunch fajitas with eggs but instead got charged for the fajita meal ($46 steak, $34 chicken) and then would have to place 2 orders of eggs/hash browns. The "proper" (pun intended) thing that should have happened once she realized she entered the wrong order, was bring us 2 orders of eggs/hash browns at no additional charge. Outside of this, everyone enjoyed their food. But when you are paying $250 for 4 people, you expect to receive what you ordered and not because the server entered the wrong order. read more

This was easily the best fajita I've ever had. First off the location was beautiful there was a soaring view of the park. The bathroom was bigger then my apartment, there's also a rooftop pool. The pickled vegetables with the guac were tangy and crunchy. They bring out a silicone skillet that is constantly caramelizing the queso as you're eating. The lemonade was tart and refreshing. They have vegan and vegetarian options. The tortillas come in a holder that keeps them warm and the skillets are kept on a burner at the table. It's delicious. Service was so fast and attentive. Our waiter didn't let our water ever empty. Homemade tortillas and chips yum. read more

This has easily become my favorite restaurant in ATX. Everything about La Piscina is perfect: the ambience (Austin Proper Hotel in general is awesome), the friendly + helpful staff, and the FOOD! Our first time was mainly focused around raw fish + seafood which I definitely recommend. The aguachile is an explosion of different flavors and textures (has cute mini tortilla chips) and the big-eye tuna melts in your mouth. For the main course, the filet was great but the gulf (aka jumbo) shrimp stole the show. When you order any fajita dish, they also bring out fresh guac, pico, tortillas, and rice+beans. We came for my girlfriend's birthday so they comped the churros which again...just AMAZING. We have a reservation to go back in a month so will check back in after trying more of the menu! read more

While looking for an outdoor brunch option to meet up with a few girlfriends, I came across La Piscina. Being a big fan of the Proper Hotel, didn't look any further. There was no availability in Open Table for outdoor seating, but added the request in the comments and they delivered. Our server was friendly and attentive. Gave us enough time to catch up, but also made sure we didn't feel forgotten. I ordered the crab tostada and the chicken torta. The torta was huge, definitely enough to share. The tostada order brings two bite sized tostadas with chilled crab. The crispy leeks are a nice touch for texture. Had a margarita de la piscina and a madre tierra. They were both great choices. Had to deduct a star due to cocktails taking forever, especially the last one of my friends ordered. Our server at some point told us they had a new bartender that was not up to par and she had to redo a drink, so maybe that was the reason for this. The live music by the pool was a nice surprise. read more

What a wonderful date night. I was lured in by pictures of the fajitas and they were just as good in person! Sitting out on the patio near sunset was very scenic. The fajitas were tender and I just love the gooey molten cheese. We added rack of lamb and that was seasoned well and tender. Prices are steep but the food was really good. Fajitas can with sides - the rice was a little bland but that's rice for you. An order of the no 1 fajitas comfortably fed 2 ppl. The tortillas seemed homemade and came out hot. I thought the margarita was good but unremarkable for the cost. The tres leches was incredible. Loved the grapefruit topping. Milky and sweet. read more

Hit and miss dinner at La Piscina. Let our experience help guide you. Skip the guacamole and queso fundido appetizers. The queso was separated and just not good. The guac needed spices (salt) and the curtido vegetables were too vinegar flavored. Needed more oil and water and less vinegar when cooking the vegetables. Also, the fajitas (you need to get fajitas) comes with a proper queso fundido (a good creamy version) AND guac on the side anyway so no need to order those appetizers. The chips and salsa (brought free to table) were very good. The tuna crudo was a hit but a small 5 bites for $21. The beef (no 1 on the menu) were excellent, flavorful, juicy, tender. The chicken (no 4 on menu) was very good also. The rice and bean accompaniment to the fajitas was okay but could use more salt and rice cooked in a chicken broth instead of water. The flour tortillas for queso and fajitas were just okay. They were kind of stiff and lacking flavor (need some lard perhaps). After a few minutes they get very stiff. We also ordered the snapper tacos which were good but the tortillas didn't hold up and broke apart which is not good. These 2 fajita items were enough for 3 to 4 people easily. The waitstaff uniforms are cabo beach vibes but in a high rise hotel are more papillon prison vibes. Nick, our waiter, was awesome. Very helpful, friendly, fun. We did have a cilantro issue though. We asked for all cilantro garnish to be eliminated from our food (after seeing other yelp photos) but only a bonus mistake guac had it removed. The pictures show everything else covered with it. The total bill with no drinks before tip was $32 pp so very manageable. So skip the duplicate apps and add another fajita dish would be the right move. Fajitas are 5 star but unfortunatley too many other things just not good enough for an upscale place in Austin for this native Texan!! read more
This was once a really fun place to go meet clients for snacks and happy hour. I just called to inquire about reserving a spot for 10 of my clients and curtly was told by the entitled and unfriendly young lady at the hostess stand that I would be required to do a pris fixe menu either $75 or $100 per person. When I told her we just wanted to come for snacks and happy hour she scoffed, "We Don't DO happy hour" Cool. You just assured that I won't EVER return to your establishment again. Nor will anyone on my sales team for that matter, all who have entertained here since they opened. Best of luck. Learn some basic customer service and phone manners. read more

Was able to get a same-day dinner reservation on a Wednesday. The service was great and we really enjoyed the vibe! From the furniture to the natural lighting, you can tell this restaurant was designed with intention and care. And most importantly, the food and drinks were amazing! They start you off with free chips and salsa (we loved the green one!), and we ordered margaritas de la casa. I liked that there was the option for frozen/blended, which is my preference. We got the Baja oysters that come with yummy sauce which we asked for on the side (normally it comes on top of the oysters). We also got the steak arrachera al carbon fajitas and added two bacon-wrapped gulf shrimp -- this dish was so delicious and our favorite part of the meal! The steak was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The cheese was also so good! This dish comes with rice, beans, and tortillas, so it was super filling (we had leftovers!). Overall we loved our experience and will definitely be back. Perfect place for date night or for a night out with friends! read more

La Piscina is all vibes, great music, and incredible people. Justin and Ally made it our best afternoon in Austin, bar none. It's the perfect spot to chill, drink, and have delicious food by the pool. The gulf shrimp ceviche was so great we had to get it twice, and the guac was the perfect chilling snack. Justin's aperol spritz's gave me the perfect buzz, and we're incredibly balanced. We had big plans to go see all of Austin, but found ourselves relaxing and exhaling here, detoxing for a rare weekend without the kiddos. On a (long) side note, we felt so bad for our new friends in the burlap sacks the hotel makes them wear. This unbreathable fabric in 100+ degree weather in the summer is a bit tone deaf and not understanding the Texas climate. No one can pull off that tan color. No one. Downstairs the front desk folks look like they are in an Obi Wan Kenobi cult in their sandstorm beige. Proper execs listen up- culturally appropriate outfits (and maybe loose guidelines but why uniforms?) Allow your amazing staff something breathable and stretchy in a flattering color. This is an amazing place to hang, 10 out of 10 might end up spending our whole trip here . Thanks Justin and Ally- y'all made our trip! read more

I've been to La Piscina at least 20 times. I love the food and I've experienced good customer service. Tonight, after receiving the bill, my friend noticed that we were charged $24 for ordering a tajin rim on our margaritas - $2 per drink for the tajin. We were not told about the up charge when we ordered. It is atypical in Austin to be charged for salt and/or tajin rim on a drink. This seems ridiculous given the $18 base price of the margarita! Please tell your customer about this crazy up charge when they order. read more

My friend and I sat at the bar and were greeted by name by the amazing bartender, Justin. He was so friendly, made the best drinks (please try the el fantasma). Justin is the friendliest face there. He gave us great suggestions on food and drinks and suggestions for fun places to go tonight. We really appreciated his service and his friendly demeanor. We Will definitely be back when we return to Austin. read more

Best option for parking if not using valet?
Try to feed the meter or park in the public parking next door. It should be cheaper than valet parking but still expensive. Best bet is to arrive early and feed the meter .
