Two things I'm always seeking out: dog friendly patios and good chilaquiles. I searched for both this morning and drove 30 miles to find LaMo, and I couldn't have been more pleased! My waitress, Stephanie, was smiling and friendly and attentive. The staff wear the cutest flowered aprons, and it doesn't hurt they all loved my dog. I felt so welcome! The restaurant serves local, organic, sustainable eggs and veggies. All sauces and syrups made in-house. Kudos to supporting our locals. The chilaquiles were delicious. Layered with chips tossed in a creamy red sauce, with sliced onions (kind of odd, I prefer diced for this dish), two eggs MY WAY (yay! Over medium, to slice the yolk and let it run), avocado, and nopales. Drizzled with la crema and sprinkled with cojita. I chose the salad as a side (American breakfast always want to shove potatoes down your throat), thinking Mexican traditional micro greens for breakfast, and to my surprise I got a salad full of dried berries, fresh strawberries, sliced almonds and apples (apples were kind of overkill, so I fed them to the dog). It was too much food, so I'll be full all day or take a siesta to recover. That's not a complaint. It was like $15 for ALL that food! I got a specialty tea from LaMo Cafe, nextdoor, which appears to be a sister location that works hand-in-hand. London Fog. Earl Grey with housemade vanilla simple syrup and local milk. HUGE cup of tea, a tad sweet, so Stephanie gladly brought me another teabag and hot water. Overall, a lovely restaurant. 5 stars on atmosphere, service, menu, food. If you like your specialty cafe drinks on the less sweet side, make note and I'm sure they'll alter their recipes for you. A preference more than a complaint. A gem in Turlock. The food at LaMo is pretty tasty. I especially like their El Pueblo coffee. The cafe has average service, but their food makes up for it.

Very delicious breakfast! It was my first time there and I'll be going back definetly. I could tell that the food was fresh and it was not greasy at all. The usual typical American breakfast is so oily and greasy and I always feel sick but not after I eat at Lamo! I'm not sure how to feel about this place, the food is always pretty good. The beans are kinda weird, but let me tell you, the service was very very very mediocre, it could possibly have to do with the fact that their isn't one designated server to the table? Not sure. But the lady who took my order (seemed a bit older than the other servers) I said I wanted the huevos rancheros and she said "would you like tortilla with that? I mean I'm not sure what it even comes with but if it does come with tortillas do you want some?" And I just didn't know what to say so I said no it's fine..? Also had the Pueblo coffee and wish the description warned me about the after taste being spicy, I had to switch to the carmelada I think it was called, and that was kinda bland. My friends had tamarin margaritas that tasted like regular margaritas and my other friend got a mai tai that was really great tasting. Overall I give my experience a 3 stars - because I liked my plate of food and the host was really sweet and pleasant. La Mo is one of those places that makes me want to go through the rest of my four and five-star reviews and mark them down. They just can't compare! The owners of La Mo, a multi-generational restaurant family, have gone out of their way to create something really special. It's obvious that this sweet indoor/outdoor cafe is a work of love and passion. Everything has been meticulously thought of. My boyfriend and I came for lunch and while sipping on the freshly brewed iced tea, admired the cute papier mache flowers on the tables, the artwork, the charming glassware, and the innovative setup of the restaurant that makes the most of a small space. We perused the menu and specials for a while -- everything sounded amazing! Always a good sign. We decided to share two of their daily lunch specials: the spinach and strawberry salad with almonds, avocado and a balsamic vinaigrette, followed by the coconut-crusted mahi mahi tacos with a cup of tortilla soup. The salad was fantastic and a very generous size. The tacos were delicious and didn't break apart in the homemade corn tortillas. Everything here is made from scratch! After lunch, we decided to share a dessert: the chocoflan. A slice of rich chocolate cake topped with a layer of flan and fresh whipped cream. It was a bit big for my taste but it was too good not to finish. We had fresh brewed coffee with it and our bill was only $32. A very good deal for an incredible lunch served by a lovely waitstaff. Almost everything on the menu here has the health conscious person in mind. Instead of refried bean dip, they offer a black bean dip on their menu. Instead of a greasy burrito, they offer a black bean wrap full of spice, avocados, and delicious vegetables. Top off your meal with their Sangria which is probably the best Sangria I've had in our local area. For dessert you absolutely need to try their Tres Leches cake. Served with whipped cream and fresh berries - it's a simple and delicious way to end a meal. We're fans of La Morenita - the authentic Mexican restaurant in Modesto that came first. As fans of the original, we eagerly welcome this healthy, modern take on Mexican food at this adorable cafe with outdoor seating. read more

A hidden treasure of a place! My friend took me here and I thought I had walked into a different city (I mean downtown Turlock is cute in itself, but this café gave me a bay area or so-cal vibe). The café is split into two parts with an indoor area, outdoor patio and indoor/outdoor patio (the latter looks like a modern home from a magazin with gorgeous art, ceiling deco and lounge areas). Staff was very friendly and food was crazy-maze! Be ready for some fresh, healthy latin food (I'm not sure exactly how to classify it, but it is different than a typical Mexican restaurant). I ordered the pulled-pork sandwich with side of sweet potato fries and jalapeno salad for $10. I had never had anything like it! The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because my friend ordered 2 shrimp tacos and it cost $17.00! A little steep if you ask me... EDIT: As of 7/1/13: After posting the review above, the owner contacted me and apologized that I was mis-charged for the tacos (They are actually only $4.50 a piece) and even sent me a gift certificate to make up for it! This place is a hit or miss and frankly seems like they don't work hard to earn their customers. Food took 25 minutes to come out, not to mention they don't give you chips and salsa while waiting like other Mexican restaurants. Food showed up and the server didn't give us silverware. My son asked the hostess who gave him plastic ware. We had to take silverware and napkins from the table next to us. The waitress did not come to check on us during our meal, at all. The tab never came we had to walk up and ask for it, and wait some more. Food is good just too slow and the quality of service is definitely not there. It's more of a trendy spot probably for the outdoor ambiance. As it was, we had to wait 20 minutes to get a table for two. Wasn't thrilled w the experience and likely will not return. Pros - everything smelled so good while I was waiting, atmosphere is amazing and very chic, food was decent, everything on menu sounds delicious and modern/trendy, is locally sourced, and well thought out Cons - wait time (I was told 15 min when I got there, Ended up waiting 45 min until I was seated which was just 30 min before closing), food seemed rushed (I ordered wedding chicken with flour tortillas, it came with corn tortillas and the food itself didn't feel hot and fresh) also their rice and beans is underwhelming. *they did get me the flour tortillas to correct my order I'm not sure if I had overly high expectations or if they were rushed and busy and ready to end the day, but I wasn't too impressed. I've also had a seasonal salad that had some squash and a delicious homemade dressing. However, most recently and most memorable was the wedding chicken that was indescribable. When I order foods with sauces that I like I try to taste the ingredients, believing I could remake it at home (lol), but this wedding sauce had so much depth of flavor I couldn't identify exactly what was my favorite part of the sauce. Bottom Line- La Mo lives up to the hype. So good. Behind the la mo that just serves coffee and pastries is this delicious restaurant. I came here on as a party of 3 on a Saturday around 9:30ams. The place was packed and there was a 35-45 minute wait. We ended up waited the solid 45 minutes to be seated. We all had an idea of what we wanted so ordering did not take too long. Our server was nice enough and not too in your face since we were chatting away the whole time. I ordered the chilaquiles in red sauce, with scrambled eggs and the side of potatoes. Seriously delicious! I'm used to authentic Mexican chilaquiles and these were not exactly those by any means, but definitely a good version. The potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. So good. My friends got a chorizo burrito and the fruit pancakes. Both were more than satisfied and loved the taste. I liked that the fruit pancakes came with a variety of fruit like peach and pineapple instead of just the usually strawberry or blueberry. The price was fair for the portions and hip vibe. The best B.L.T I've ever had. Bread was crisp even after it was delivered. Roasted tomatoes and avocado come in the sammie. Delish. Got a side of the soup of the day, butternut squash soup! Love the coffee, food was good, service could use a little boost. I like to end on a good note, so I'll start with the opportunities. We didn't have much of a wait to be seated, but after being offered water, there was a good lapse in time even though the restaurant wasn't super busy... and on a hot summer day, that water was much desired. Our server was friendly, but forgetful. We ordered chips and salsa, but never got them. We both ordered one of their specialty coffees and I asked for mine to be served with almond milk (raw cows milk will have me spilling over the edge with sickness). When the coffees were brought to us, the server seemed a little hesitant on which went to whom, so I asked to confirm that she was handing me the one with almond milk. Thankful that I did when she told me neither had almond milk. That would have been a true disaster. Like I mean, really sick... For the pros... the fish tacos were pretty good. The cold tomato soup was incredible and very refreshing. I can't recall the name of the coffee I had (it was the spicy Mexican one), but I ordered it iced. It was a healthy serving and some of the best I've had since living around here. I've had their coffee once before, it's the one thing that will keep me coming back for more. I like the inside/outside seating arrangement. You get the feel of being outside, while also kind of being inside. Overall, I'd say it's worth a try - especially for the coffee. The place is nice & the safety procedure in place are great, however I feel like the service wasn't great, staff was friendly and very helpful with my friend at the time of ordering but they disappeared after they brought our food. The burrito was "ok" & the fruit delicious, but they forgot to add the sour cream and queso cotija to my plate. I waited to see if someone would pass by for like 10 minutes and no one came to ask how was everything. My food would've definitely tasted better with the cheese & sour cream. I have been here twice now. The first time, I came with my friend and I would have given La Mo 5 stars. We came in for lunch and I had the wedding and the red sangria (it is not often that I find a sangria that can rival my own, but this one is just as good as mine!). The wedding was very good, my only qualm was that they were kind of skimpy with the shrimp... I think I only got four and they were no tiger shrimp, if you know what I mean! My fiend got the healthy burrito and she enjoyed her food as well. She had gotten the pineapple mojito, I had a sip and it was yummy! This time, our server was very attentive and sweet. After lunch, we decided to make our way over to the coffee side. The macrons were to die for and we both tried the Turkish latte, iced. It has muddled mint and I REALLY liked it! The next time, I came for dinner with my fiancé on a Thursday (they stay open til nine on Thursday's and Friday's). This time, I would have given them about a three. I decided to try the white sangria which was pretty good as well, but next time, I will probably stick with the red. My fiancé and I also tried their Michelada (which I couldn't find on the menu, but I noticed another customer had one). I didn't care for the michelada; it tasted like plain tomato juice and beer, not much spice to it. I had the duck enchiladas mole, which was not my cup of tea at all. My fiancé liked his beef tips. The waitress we had this time was not very good. After we had already ordered, I had overheard another server listing the specials of evening, our waitress didn't even mention them. She was MIA a lot and we had to ask other staff for help when we needed it. She asked how the food was and I told her I didn't really care for mine, she just said "sorry" and walked off. My fiancé liked it though, so he ended up eating it. Also, I kept smelling something deliciously garlicky and I asked her what that might be, to which she replied "I have no idea"....... I then asked another server and she told me that she believed it to be the salmon, which I will definitely be trying next time!! My mouth watered every time I got a whiff!
