This restaurant is absolutely amazing, and positively one of the best ones ever in the city of Turlock! A gem of a place! The positives: 1. The food! Amazingly fresh, nice portions, beautifully displayed, and even better to eat! I have tried many things here already, and among my favorites are the shrimp tacos, complete with sweet potato fries, and their chicken tortilla soup! And omg, the crowning jewel: their tres leches cake! It's absolutely the best Latin dessert I have ever tasted, and trust me, I've eaten many in my life living in the Central Valley. When you come to this place, prepare to taste amazing food! 2. The atmosphere! The way this place is set up is very unique. The restaurant is little and off to to the side, but is wonderfully and comfortably decorated. There is a gorgeous patio area outside that is lovely to sit at and eat as well! Can be very romantic during dusk time. :) Across from the restaurant is another seating area inside with indoor/outdoor doors that open up to the outside! Very classily decorated! Seriously, when I come to this restaurant, I feel like I am in a little oasis and am eating in the Bay Area. 3. The prices! I feel like this restaurant has very fair prices compared to the food they serve as well as the quality! For example, the last time we ate there, my husband and I both ordered entrees, he a glass of wine, and a dessert afterwards. The total came out to about $40, perhaps more with tax. I would definitely pay and more for great food, service, and atmosphere! 4. The service! They are professional, friendly, accommodating, and always checking to see whether you are satisfied or not. I had breakfast here the other morning and had a mixed experience. First off the service and restaurant setting is amazing. When I go out to eat breakfast I like to get in and out, so I can start my day. I was in and out of here in 20 minutes. The staff here made me feel like I was the only one in the restaurant, even though there were about 10 other parities. WOW!!! I am in complete and utter amazement at the wonders this restaurant puts out. And in Turlock, of all places?! Insanity! But I am certainly grateful that even a tiny California town can appreciate good and creative food. After a quick groundbreaking ceremony for Blue Diamond, my fiance and I were a little hungry. It was 11 o'clock, so we were in between breakfast and lunch. I found La Mo Cafe based on the fantastic Yelp reviews. We decided to make it a go and headed towards downtown Turlock. On street parking was fairly easy to find mid-morning, and the entire downtown strip was very nice! All the buildings were adorable, I can only imagine how cute it would be during the holidays! We found the cafe easily, as it's kind of behind other building fronts in a courtyard area. Inside we were promptly greeted by our waitress and invited to sit wherever we would like. We were provided with lunch menu's and the daily specials-all which looks delicious! Our drink orders were very promptly placed, and we focused in on the lunch menu. We decided on the specials which were a Chimchurri style sandwich, an the Cuban sliders w/ a side of sweet potato fries. It was quite possibly one of the best meals I have had all year. I was not anticipating such fresh ingredients and everything was cooked perfectly. Nothing was greasy or fatty, and everything had such a fresh flavor-not bland at all! Everything was served on adorable multi-colored plates and bowls, which really went with the eclectic Latin flare of the place. My only regret is that we didn't have room for desert. Service was outstanding on all levels. You can tell people come back to this place because they love the food AND the people. There was a table of older patron behind us that were celebrating a birthday, and the owner brought out a treat and sang happy birthday! Some friends and I stumbled upon La Mo Cafe this weekend for brunch. It's a bit of a hidden gem as it sits in the breezeway between two buildings, but it's definitely worth the work to find! We all ordered the heuvos benedictos; a toasted roll, sautéed spinach and bacon, a poached egg, and wedding sauce (which is some sort of divine crema and chipotle concoction, from what I could taste). Our typically chatty group was rendered silent upon first bite. It. Was. So. Good. Of course, since it was Saturday brunch, we had to wash down our heuvos with bottomless mimosas. They were perfectly balanced--enough champs to give a little kick--and truly bottomless. My glass was never empty and the carafe was always freshly filled. I cannot wait to return. La Mo is a wonderful restaurant serving quality food in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Yay! read more

When you pull up you only see the small coffee shop. We were puzzled at how the small shop spun out awesome looking food (according to the reviews). Girl tells me to go to the side where the restaurant is. Oooh ok! We walked up to it and it looked cute! The divided restaurant with seating off to the left behind sliding doors and open atrium seating in the middle and more indoor seating to the right. Different but Ok got! Here is where they bang out all those awesome plates! So I'm excited! I ordered a Honey vanilla lemon drop! OMG wow!! Sooo good!! Not too tart like others it was amazing!!!! Hats off to the bartender!! We ordered the wedding chicken, based on reviews, very good! Also ordered the shrimp appetizer with wedding sauce. The sauce to me was kind of like a creamy chipotle sauce - it was very tasty and not spicy at all. I could be wrong about the chipotle. This place uses a variety of spices and creates amazing dishes. I'm a spice lover so I look at everything on my plate. I was impressed! This appetizer is served with a cup of black beans which were REALLY good! Three small homemade corn tortillas on the side. We all ate that with some chips and salsa. So this is nearly a meal! Yum! I ordered chicken tortilla soup for my little one, it was AWESOME!! Different from others, not the usual, and we all loved it! More important, my little one loved it. It had a nice amount of cooked and fresh veggies and a nice amount of juicy chunks of chicken. SO GOOD I ordered the halibut special with chorizo on top served with mashed potatoes and green beans. The entire plate was excellent, the fish was cooked nicely, I did poor some wedding sauce on my fish, why not! The veggies were cooked perfectly. Everything was PERFECT. And before I close, I want to mention our waiter, waitress, and I think manager all touched our table periodically with terrific service! They all worked cohesively and we were never left wanting anything. They were inviting, professional and were familiar with the menu. My husband was so happy, he rarely compliments restaurants. We relied on Yelp to guide us as we are not from here or familiar with this area and this place was a pleasant surprise. I needed/wanted breakfast, so this was perfect. I had the huevos rancheros with potatoes and sourdough toast. It was really good! The Verde sauce was perfect and the tortillas underneath were crispy. The black bean spread was flavorful. It came with cojita cheese and a bit of crema. Delicious! They served my sourdough toast with a small amount of homemade jam, I can't remember the name, but she described it as similar to boysenberry and it was delicious. When I inquired (I have a blueberry allergy and I wasn't sure what this was) , she offered to bring out the apricot jam made in house and I accepted since I love apricots. Let me tell you, the apricot jam was absolutely delicious! I definitely need more of that on some hot, buttered sourdough! I added a side of jalapeño cilantro sausage and I was warned that it spicy, but I was curious and for $2.25,why not? Well, it was too spicy for me and I wouldn't get it again, but what I tasted had great flavor. The potatoes on the side had bits of roasted tomatoes and onions. The onions were a little bitter, but I enjoyed the roasted tomato bits. That was really tasty with bites of my huevos entree. We ate out on their beautiful patio, which I adored, but once our food came out, the flies were crazy. Diving and dodging flies were an issue and when we go back, I won't sit outside, but simply enjoy admiring it from a fly free Zone (hopefully!) indoors. I'm sure that it can't be helped, but it's worth mentioning it because I detest flies and they really bothered me. The service was fine, not the best and certainly not the worst I've ever had,and I still tipped my standard 30%. We only had water, but they had some amazing sounding coffees on their coffee menu and I am definitely going back to try those. My spouse had the cornmeal pancakes with a sweetened Greek yogurt topping, fresh fruit and whipped cream. Syrup on the side and the fresh fruit consisted of strawberries and blueberries. They were good, but needed butter, since they were a touch dry. I didn't try these, so I can't comment. I'm from a foodie town known for amazing restaurants and one of the top three culinary programs in the US, so I am accustomed to lots of choices and I have high expectations. This place was great and warrants many more visits during my stay in the central Valley. My wife and I live in L.A. and were visiting friends in Turlock, so we were quite skeptical when we heard that there was a great Mexican food place in downtown Turlock. We've been to the best Mexican restaurants in L.A. and even dined at Frontera Grill in Chicago, so our standards for Mexican cuisine are pretty high. We wanted to have a comprehensive idea of the food at La Mo so we ordered a bunch of things off the menu, including the tamales, sopitos, black bean dip, and of course the highly recommended "Wedding Chicken." The food was so fresh and flavorful. We're still trying to figure out what went into that Wedding chicken to make it so delicious. They also had the best tortilla soup my wife has ever had, and she orders it at every Mexican restaurant we go to. She also couldn't stop raving about the flan we had for dessert, and she's a professional pastry chef! This is BY FAR the best restaurant in Turlock. I am not someone who likes to eat any restaurant, like Denny's and Ihop, or crappy restaurants like that. I appreciate good quality food and this place meets my standard. Their salads and fruits are all fresh, and their sandwiches are delicious! They make their own unique dishes with unique sauces. And the price! It is not that expensive at all. And the atmosphere is so great! It's in a hidden sort of spot and when you go there are always lots of people there, and you can see outside in the shade and it's just beautiful. And their service is really great. I always start with the black bean dip, it's super yummy! Then I get the South American Chicken Sandwich with a side of Jicama Salad. Yes this is a modern Mexican cuisine restaurant. They try their best to use local produce which is great! Service is always friendly and the family that runs the restaurant are also there serving their customers and that is for me very important. I have been during their Saturday brunch, weekday lunch, and weekday/weekend dinner and I like it all. Their tamales are lighter than regular tamales since the masa is mixed with squash and corn. Their new drink menu is also great! They use natural fruit syrup on all their drinks and only use mid/higher brand spirits. Best breakfast I have had in the past 2 years. On road trip SF to Vegas and decided to drop by for saturday breakfast as our first stop. From beginning to end, a great experience. Had the Latin Bene which was superb. 2 perfectly soft boiled eggs on top of a butter toasted bun covered with a delicious light "red pepper kick" sauce sprinkled with cotija cheese. So I have been to La Mornita the original of this family's restaurant since the early 70's witih my best friend Cliff and his family as the go to for authentic Mexican food. Now the children and grandchildren have opened a hipper twist on the theme that shines. I test Mexican restaurants by Chile Relleno. Here it is creatively re-imagined with tender chunks of meat great sauce and not just egg washed cheese filled. Spicer than you are used to but well within the comfort range. This family continues to do it right. It is so encouraging to see small local operations grow, evolve and do nicely. Highly recommended. La Mo is, in my opinion, the only good restaurant in Turlock. This is not a chain, and it's not a "hole in the wall." It's a family-owned business, and the family has 50 years of restaurant/chef experience. How do I know this? Because the owner served us and explained the history behind her business. She served us water, food, etc. And there were plenty of waitresses too (they're not struggling financially), the owner just wanted to stay engaged. She's a wonderful woman. The food: It's amazing. Hands down the best food I've had in this region. All whole ingredients, fresh, healthy, and very flavorful. The price: VERY reasonable. No, it's not a $2.50 burrito. But $8-10 for lunch is a good price these days. The ambiance: Not like Turlock. More like the Bay Area. Very chic/modern while still being very comfortable. Quiet, casual, peaceful, beautiful. My boyfriend and I went to La Mo on a Friday afternoon for brunch. We were seated immediately by very friendly staff. The restaurant is small but the ambiance is nice. It was our first time there and the waiter was really helpful. I got the blood orange Sangria to start which was really tasty. I was considering getting some kind of lemonade which looked interesting but the waiter advised against it which I appreciated. Now on to the food! Wedding Chicken: There were multiple reviews so we had to try it and it was absolutely delicious. The sauce is creamy and mildly spicy. I had a comparable wedding sauce at La Morenita in Modesto but I can say for sure that this one is much better. The meal also came with a Jicama salad which I would enjoyed as a meal on its own. I was light and flavorful. Tamales and Asparagus soup: The Tamales were very good I ordered two and only ate one. The sauce was good and the consistency of the tamale and pork was nice. The flavor is really good too. I haven't had too many tamales in my life so I can't say it's amazing but it was good and I would order it again. The asparagus soup was also really good. It wasn't too heavy and had great flavor. Definitely coming back and recommending to everyone I know. read more

The vibes have changed from friendly and kind to pretentious and rude. You guys are not any better than anyone else. My mother in law and brothers did not like their food as the meat was horribly over cooked. She politely asked for it to be re cooked or a different meal would do. The waitress had such a fit over this. We were shocked. Clearly they can't handle criticism. I'm sorry but if your food sucks we want it re cooked or compensated. We also ordered drinks which tasted like we were drinking a flower-- not sure what's the deal with that. We asked for different drinks and ere told how popular the drink was and that it's good. I'm sorry I don't reminder asking the waitresses opinion. Just another example of the holier than thou attitude over at la ml. We then go to the coffee shop- again have always been fans of both places- only to be ignored, no smiles nothing. I don't get it? You guys get popular and think your higher than customer service and providing customers with properly cooked meats. Get a grip! Your a restaurant in turlock not the ritz Carlton-- humble yourselves. Very cute and tasty place! I love the environment of this restaurant and I love that they use fresh and local ingredients. The quality of their food is really good too! I had the butternut squash and make quesadilla. It was soooo delicious, the squash just melts in your mouth and the kale gives a nice hearty bite. :) I also tried the burrata appetizer and it was unique but flavorful! The creaminess of the cheese paired we with the peaches and the bread was to die for!! I could eat plates of that bread! Only giving it 4 starts because we were sat inside (even though there were many available tables outside) and the jicama salad was too sour and over dressed. Great atmosphere and really yummy food. Your best bet is to make a reservation if possible. Wait staff is friendly but sometimes service can be slow. I will say that consistency is lacking. I've ordered the latin benedict many times and sometimes eggs are poached hard, sometimes whites are runny- you just never really know what you're gonna get so I've decided to order differently when I do breakfast here. The wedding sauce in another one of those things that is sometimes out of this world delicious and sometimes very bland. The temperature of the food can also be very inconsistent. Unfortunately I've also had a couple dishes cold on different occasions. Despite these shortcomings I still enjoy the atmosphere and the food for the most part.
