Probably came on an off day. Came to celebrate my sister passing her test at the dmv, two different waitresses asked for our drink order after we had already submitted it once. I ordered La Lecheda (iced) after seeing other tables get their drinks (they were helped after me.) I asked if my drink was going to come the same time as the food or does it typically come before. She's like oh it's probably ready, let me go check. Okay. Prior to ordering the latte I was drinking water, but then the waitress saw that the cup was dirty so she took it. (That's when I ordered the latte) The latte was good, about what you would get at Starbucks. Nothing to brag about. We ordered the Guadalupe picadillo tacos and then she came back and said they ran out. Okay, so then we asked for one salmon plate and one enchilada plate. After a bit the food comes out, two plates and enchiladas, no salmon. She said she thought we said "enchiladas same plates". I mean I guess, salmon and same plates sound the same?? I heard them talking about us sending the food back since we were sitting right by the register. She said she was scared she was gonna get in trouble and she didn't want to go back to inform the cooks or manager of what happened. (This conversation was between her and coworkers) If it was going to be that big of a deal I would have kept the enchilada plate. But at the same time my drink order was delayed, my water cup was dirty, now my order was rang in wrong so I would have hoped at least one thing was done right. The enchiladas were mediocre at its finest. I wish I could have had a better first experience. The girl sounded like she was having a distracting day and it was getting the best of her and her work mode. I would probably come back just for the coffee quickly in and out. Moral of the story down below is that this place looks down on you. They judge you the moment you walk up to the hosts desk. They decide if you're important enough to be seated before everyone else that is waiting their turn. Screw this place. This place can be a tempting to try but please DON'T!!!! Seriously I've been here a handful of times and every time I've been their service, food, and drinks get worse and worse. My last encounter at this restaurant was frustrating. We went for brunch and the wait time was 25 minutes. My mother, sister, a 10 month old, and I waited, and waited, and waited. My mom became frustrated because she saw people get there and get seated right away. I told her its probably because they had reservations. She understood. A older gentleman arrived with his son and were also asked to wait. The older man sat next to me and I overheard him tell his son " They obviously don't know who we are because if they did they would've sat us right away". The son right away grabbed the waiters attention and guess what??? They were sat down!!!!!! WHAT THE!! OK. 45 minutes passed and my mom was obviously upset, I was upset. This was real shitty service. We finally were sat down, ordered food, it was gross, sweet potato fries were cold. We ordered coffee and it was gross. If you came to my mom's house you would never step foot in this "aunthentic" brunch/lunch/dinner place. My sister asked for ranch and no joke it was divided into two different liquids, the top was clear and the bottom was whitish cream. We were so grossed out. I honestly don't know why I've kept visiting this place before this time. I guess it's because I'm hopeful that it'll be a better visit. It never is. Another time I went to their coffee shop. I got the drink I usually get because it was amazingly delicious. Nope not this time. It tasted like onion. I asked my sister to try my drink and she agreed. I told the barista and she made me a new one. The new drink tasted like onion again. I told the barista again. She told me " I think our sweetener went sour". Ummm EWW!. The wait was ridiculously long. When we were seated they sat us by the bathroom and people kept bumping my sons chair (definitely not stroller friendly) it's tight inside. Food was good but very "Americanized" the tamales were had a lot of masa but it wasn't flavored. It was an okay experience but for the price we won't be going back. Staff is very nice. This hidden gem is everything. La Mo is the definition of gourmet latin cuisine. You can tell they put so much passion and thought into every dish they present on their menu. The ambiance is adorable modern chic, dining inside or outside you get a great experience. The service is perfection, the staff at La Mo really care and want you to get everything you hoped for during your dining experience. Brunch is also a must here, bottomless mimosas under an umbrella on the patio while enjoying your chilaquiles. Their attached coffee shop is also amazing, the la lechada is my fav and their breakfast quiche is delish. La Mo is a really unique courtyard cafe in downtown Turlock. It's a small slice of Coastal California in the middle of the Central Valley and I enjoy having it close by. I hope they do well and continue to thrive, but, in addition to the things they do well, there are a few things they need to improve. Here are my thoughts. Pros: - Creativity (4 stars) - they have a nice selection of creative approaches to their dishes. There's no place like it in the region - Atmosphere (5 stars) - great courtyard with a trendy vibe and art by local artists - Locally-sourced foods (4 stars) - they don't hesitate to let you know when something comes from the immediate area. They are also a strong supporter of the local farmer's market, which is nice Cons - Service (0 stars. I'd give less if I could) - I've tried to "just deal with it," but I can't any longer. After all, poor restaurant service is hardly unique to La Mo. What is unique is that their service is abysmal and really interferes with the overall dining experience. And by "service," I mean every restaurant employee you interact with from the time you enter until the time you leave. It's not that they're rude - they're not. It's more that they're either completely indifferent (80% of the time) or so new at their job, they're not quite sure where they are or what they're supposed to be doing. For example, it's frequently a 10+ minute wait between the time the check is initially brought to the table and when it is returned. It's generally 10+ minutes until you are able to order. And forget trying to get a drink from the bar in a timely manner. Recently, I called to see if there was a wait and I was told "no, immediate seating." I arrived four - that's right FOUR - minutes later and was told there was a 20-minute wait. Utter nonsense. They accept far too many reservations, thus limiting their walk-in availability. A nice proportion of reservations and walk-ins is desirable for a restaurant of this caliber. (Face it, there are no Michelin stars here.) - Flavor of food (2 stars) - and this one is hit-and-miss, I acknowledge. Some things are great (their salsas and brunch items come to mind). Other things are seriously lacking in flavor, namely all their preparations of beans I've ever eaten and all their seafood items. Come on, La Mo! Salt's not that expensive these days! - Price (2 stars) - they're considerably over-priced for both the quality of their items as well as the overall dining experience. Perhaps this is due to their obvious and comically regrettable attempt at serving an exclusive, high-end clientele. I don't mind paying for a dining experience, but I expect more in return than what I get at La Mo. Overall, I think my above points average out to about 3 stars. I sincerely wish them well, and, should they improve on the above cons, will gladly patronize them again in the future. read more

Okay, so Saturday morning and time for errands, how to salvage these chores? Breakfast! Do the trusty (mostly) Yelp search and see that La Mo is one of the most recommended B-fast spots within 1/2 hr drive. Pictures look great, reviews...well mostly great...cold food, long waits, and bad service being the exceptions. Ah Murphy's Law! Good start, restaurant on one side of a courtyard, full bar on the other, with outdoor seating and waiting patrons chugging bottomless mimosas in between. Like I said, so far so good. 20 minute wait, ok, cool, order aforementioned mimosa for me lady and a Bloody Mary for me self. Name called, cool! 2 top by the sole restroom...um, ok, pretty hungry. Well, welcome to the black hole. Server comes and introduces himself, Ivan...I think? Doesn't matter because he will be absent, short of fleeting glances, for the rest of the morning. That water ordered? Sorry, another server must be called over after 10 minutes. The food? Ha ha! Nope. Not until way after everyone around you and seated after you, and hot? no, lukewarm? no way, cold. As in "here you feel this" cold. (Still not our server) Just an aside here, the food, when re-brought out hot fresh and correct was really good! Then the waiting for the check. Push away plates. Nope. Put out wallet on edge of table , waited, I even stacked our plates. Waited. Finally called over another "not our server" and was able to pay and leave. Good food, and some there seemed to care. But for the most part we felt invisible and unimportant in our bathroom view wobbly table. So it was 15% tip (our usual is 25-33+%) and never to come back for us. read more

funny that the first review for La Mo was just a few days ago! my fiance and i tried La Mo for brunch this morning and were not disappointed. we were at the farmer's market in downtown turlock and though we munched on a lot of samples, were craving breakfast food. i overheard a lovely lady with an armful of flowers talking about the restaurant and how nobody really knew that they offered breakfast. she was a server there and was on her way to work. i asked her which restaurant she was speaking of and she pointed the way to La Mo, which can be a little hard to find because they're tucked in a shopping plaza (along with Bombshell Salon) and there doesn't seem to be a sign out by the sidewalk. when we arrived, we were seated promptly in their outdoor area which felt surprisingly comfortable even though it's in the middle of the plaza. the tables were all set nicely with flowers. all the servers were super friendly and everything on the menus (they serve breakfast and lunch 7am - 3pm) sounded delicious. they serve mainly mexican fare, but they also have some sweet breakfast options too. i ordered the chicken and vegetable enchilada with rice & beans and my guy got the chilaquiles with green sauce. he loves chilaquiles and tries them wherever we're trying a new restaurant that serves them. the portions are more manageable compared to your typical mexican restaurant - we didn't have to worry about carrying leftovers and all the food was fresh, light and delicious. the servers checked on us just enough and i was happy to see that the server who we saw at the farmer's market was buying flowers for the restaurant. always nice to see that the people working at a place have a personal investment in your overall dining experience. on our way out, i saw someone get served a pulled pork sandwich with slaw and sweet potato fries. looks like we'll be heading back for lunch soon! read more

The staff was friendly and our server was amazing. The only reason I will start with 4 stars is because of their signage. The owners should really have better signage on Main Street. This adorable restaurant is located in a courtyard between some buildings. I almost gave up trying to find it...and just happened to stumble on a tiny sign which led me inside. I'm glad I kept looking! Once we found it, we were greeted and sat immediately, our drink orders taken and brought to us in a very timely manner. I ordered the red sangria and it was more wine than fruit juice which is always a plus. It only came with one orange slice and it would have been nice if there were more fruit presented with it, but it was still yummy. It was cheap too! The Queso Fundido was delicious. It came with only two small tortillas which was not enough for the portion size of the cheese. However, our server offered to bring more tortillas before we even asked. The prawns in the Mexican wedding sauce were delicious, cooked perfectly and very rich. The Mahi Mahi tacos were also great, the mango salsa was a hit! Their rice and beans were on point and the homemade red salsa was so good...I'd buy it to go. The ambience was very posh yet unpretentious. Thanks for bringing a little bit of so-cal to the valley. We will be back! P.S. For everyone who is complaining about the price...this place is NOT taco truck... For two people dining: Ice tea, Sangria, appetizer, and two seafood dishes: $55 including 20% tip. By far the best Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at in CA. The tamale was wonderful, the masa perfect. The black beans were full of flavor. The jicama salad is fresh and soon good. I had 3 masa patties topped with small pieces of perfectly seasoned steak. Wish they were in my community. Oh! The flan and chocolate cake is wonderful topped with vanilla whipped cream. Just discovered this little restaurant a few months ago as we had just learned we were going to be moving to Turlock. My son told us about it and we were very impressed with the service. The food is excellent not huge portions but plenty to be full & not stuffed. The food was very fresh, colorful prepared in very good balanced veggies & fruit both on your plate(LOVE IT). One of my absolute favorite restaurants! Never disappoints, from the food to the wait staff. Actually- scratch that! I've definitely been disappointed at times when they're closed . But they are family owned and run so it's nice that they take a break on Mondays, holidays, and for a couple weeks at Christmas. But seriously, the food is delicious. Wedding chicken is my favorite lunch and French toast or Latin Benedict is my favorite breakfast item! They are always so friendly, attentive, and the food is great and well-priced. If you're there on a weekend for brunch I recommend getting there a bit early cause there can be a wait at times but you can always hang out in the cafe and get a coffee while you wait for a table. This is best restaurant in Turlock. I found this Gem of a restaurant when I first moved to the area. There specials are amazing and has always has fresh produce. I absolutely love their Tres Leches cake, where is has the perfect balance of milk and cake. The staff is always super nice and are very accommodating to your needs or questions that you have. I am also a big fan of their queso fondido, it is not greasy like other restaurants in the area. The only down fall is that after it gets cold its really hard to eat. I had noooo clue that La Mo had a restaurant in the back!!! Wow!!! Lol staff was amazing! Very kind, funny & patient. Their explanation of the menu & advice and input was great. It definitely feels like everyone who works there is family. There is space to sit inside the restaurant and then there is gallery seating as well! I love all the photos in the gallery. I've eaten here several times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Each time is better than the last. You can tell the staff and ownership care tremendously about the food they serve and the atmosphere they provide. I love eating my favorite breakfast, chorizo and eggs, on the patio after a long night of drinking. Somehow, I always get Brityn as my server. She is attentive, knowledgable, and very sweet. The very best in my opinion. It's nice to have a restaurant in the area that is dedicated to serving fresh and unique mexican food all while remaining true to traditonal Mexican flavors. We went here for breakfast before and it was delicious. My husband had a breakfast burrito, which he loved. It was fresh and flavorful. I had the combo plate with cornmeal pancakes. The pancakes were okay, next time I will get the blueberry though. It came with a side of fresh fruit, and it was fresh! I hate when they give you a couple pieces of slimy melon, not La Mo. It was on a expensive side, but it is worth the fresh quality ingredients that are used and the high quality service. This was my first time at La Mo and probably my last. I found a hair under my sandwich after I'd finished eating it but I didn't complain nor let to the waiter know. I was too embarrassed to do that. I just left it on the plate. As far as the food, the Chivo Sandwich was just OK, nothing special about it. Neither was the Jicama salad. I appreciate an attempt to be different, but food must have something grabs your taste buds, this did not! Flavorful food makes your stomach happy and mine wasn't too happy. I don't know why restaurants in this area don't focus more on taste rather than just trying to be different. The decor and ambiance was OK and felt like I was taken back to the 60s era. The restaurant offers both inside and outdoor seating which is a nice option but also is a bit of a necessity as the indoor seating is fairly limited. I tried the orange French toast which has a nice sweet and crisp batter. The orange is drowned out a bit by the creme but has a nice layer of berries sprinkled on top. Definitely not for those afraid of sugar as this packs a bigger punch than a bowl of lucky charms. The service was prompt and friendly. I would like to try some of the lunch and dinner items as those sounds interesting as well. The ambience is nice and comfortable. The food is delicious, thus far in my limited experience. La Mo, a bright green orange and blue hidden restaurant in downtown Turlock, is an amazing place to eat at. I say hidden because the restaurant wen walking through downtown you don't see it outside you have to go in and pass by there cafe area . It is definitely my favorite place to eat lunch and breakfast I NEED to go in and try Dinner . If you have a chance to go by and you have the breakfast menu try the corn pancakes or the chilaquiles the flavor the put makes your tastebuds dance with excitement . If you happen to be there at lunch I recommend the wedding chicken oh my world it's out of this world so creamy so rich with a hint of spiciness.
