They really do have amazing tres leches cake! I asked around for folks' recommendations of where to get a really good tres leches cake and this place came up several times. While they take special orders for larger servings (20+ sheet cakes, etc) they actually have a lot of different cakes that you can simply order on the spot. We ended up with a mocha tres leches (birthday) cake. It was beautifully decorated AND delicious which is the really important part. It wasn't too sweet and the frosting was that really light fluffy kind. Not the heavy overly sweet. Would go here again for special occasion cakes. I've been coming to La Michoacana regularly for a long time and have always enjoyed their ice cream, pan dulce, and other items. I've never had an issue until this visit, which is why I feel the need to share this experience. This was my first time purchasing a cake from here, and unfortunately it was extremely disappointing and concerning. When we cut into the cake at home, we noticed odd gray/green discoloration inside the cake, uneven texture, and areas that looked wet and broken down. It also had this awful smell and the appearance alone was enough to make us stop eating it immediately. This does not look like normal cake coloration or texture, and it raised serious food safety concerns. Cakes, especially those with moisture, fillings, or cream, should be closely monitored, and it seems like this one may have sat on display far too long. This is not just about taste or quality; someone could genuinely get sick from consuming something like this. What's disappointing is that I genuinely like this place and come here often, which makes this experience even more frustrating. I really hope management takes this seriously and re-evaluates how long cakes are kept on display before being discarded. Freshness and safety should never be compromised. I'm sharing this not to bash the business, but because I believe they can and should do better, especially since many families shop here regularly. read more

My fave (maybe not so underrated) ice cream shop in Vallejo, and that's on that. Prices are still super reasonable- under $2 for a paleta without the choco dip, and under $3 for a choco dip + nuts. You can't beat that in most parts of the East Bay! They also have various ice cream flavors (available in scoop, milkshake, or sundae form) that are reasonably priced, and in flavors similar to what you'd find in the state of Michoacan in Mexico- and Mexico in general ex: chongos, jamaica, etc. They've also got other desserts, fruits, and baked goods that are self-serve, and the ladies working over the counter are very helpful! Was craving something sweet so as usual I turned to Yelp to find a good spot. La Michoacana had really great reviews and so my bf and I decided to stop by. (Side note: we had attempted to visit them before but it was a holiday and we missed them by 30 mins.) Upon entering the store it was a bit confusing. There was a couple of people waiting by what would be the line to order and it wasn't clear if they had been helped. So, after asking everyone standing there and being told they had been helped we then got attended. I ordered a scoop of vanilla ice cream and four paletas ( two limón, fresas con crema, and another version of fresas con crema). The total was a reasonable price. They accept both cash and card so that was nice. I got to the car, tried the ice cream I ordered and realized I wasn't given vanilla. It was more like butterscotch/rompope. Two very different flavors but I guess I can see how they might have mixed them up. There was two yellow colored ice cream buckets in their display cooler. I didn't finish the cup because I was a bit disappointed; not a big fan of that flavor. The paletas on the other hand were delicious. Very creamy, very rich in taste. I definitely will give them a try again but I think I'll stick to buying the paletas. I did see a lot of people ordering tortas so I might try that next time too. The only thing that is stopping me from giving four stars is the indifferent service. The woman who helped me seemed a bit distracted with all the noise going on, and was very short with answers. They have unique fruit flavored popsicles which are really fresh considering they pretty much blend the fruits with the seeds - probably add some sugar and turn them into popsicles. Their bread is good here!! I've ordered custom cakes twice here, for both of my baby showers and they have been good, could be better specially the tres leches kind. I was told they would be dripping of how moist of milk they were going to be when ordered but it was kind of the opposite, they were moist but barely any leches. The cake decorations have been up to standard. I have also just bought the tres leches with cajeta that they have premade and they have been always good. Their ice creams and paletas are delicious!! La michoacana has got to be one of the best pastry establishments I've visited. Walking in I couldn't decide on just one thing- so I said "treat yo self!!" I started off with the mole tortas and paired it with a green goddess drink. The torta bread was so soft, and the mole was just the right amount of sweet and spicy. Green goddess drink was so fresh- as if the veggies had just been picked! For dessert, I went for the fruit sónico- I believe it was called. I ended up tossing the spoon and just taking it like a drink! Soooo good. Then proceeded to try the chocolate cake that has some sort of cream cheese- chefs kiss!! OMG the prefect amount of chocolate and moist! I still have my tres leches cake waiting on me- and I'm certain it will be just as perfect as everything else I've tried! Most importantly, the place look well taken care of and clean. Cleanliness maters a whole lot to me. Especially in the food industry. Best ice cream I've had in the Bay & I'm a total Salt & Straw whore. Im a huge fan of paletas in general so when I saw that on their menu, I asked for their best seller, which was the soursop paleta with actual whole fruits inside. Obviously I ordered it and I was blown away. One of the best paletas I've ever had. Not too sweet, literally real chunks of frozen soursop. The seeds are HUGE but I thoroughly enjoyed that popsicle. I went in this month for a cake. My mom kept insisting that their cakes were good, blah blah blah. I finally made the drive across the bridge to go, and the ladies there have a vibe that they don't even wanna help you. My mom, being the little nice and oblivious lady she is, ordered the cake. We showed "Giri" what the cake we wanted look like, she waved it off as an easy design and assured us the cake wouldn't be soaking in milk. Okay, great. We ordered it, and I gotta give a $55 deposit. Okay, I guess it's kinda understandable, but then I get extra charges for having 3 leches, getting a whole sheet, and choosing the strawberry filling. The following week, I went to actually buy pan dulce, and tbh, the little cake with butter and sprinkles was freaking delicious, and expected my cake to be just like it. I also had remembered that I didn't even ask them to put the name. So I did. They wrote and DREW on their copy of the receipt the instructions of where the lettering was supposed to go. Extra charge. The day BEFORE the party, I am stressed as f**k. I drive all the way to VJ, get there, and the cake isn't even ready. They have me wait 25 minutes for them to get the cake, because they're instructing a new counter girl on how to do it. I get the cake, and it has the lettering in the wrong place. It goes completely over my head. I pay for the rest of the it, and I take the cake home. I get home, milk from the cake dripping all over the box. I call that same night because my mom is all over my ass over the lettering. They tell me to call tomorrow morning and take it up with the baker. Are you serious??? I call the baker at 7am, and she is insisting that everything is completely my fault and she won't consider even fixing the mistake or refunding me not even a small bit of my money back after I am willing to bring the entire cake back to Vallejo to fix it. THE CAKE DIDNT EVEN HAVE ANY STRAWBERRY IN IT, STRAIGHT UP FROSTING. So thanks for those extra charges! :))) Don't waste your time with them. Just buy the ice cream, display cakes and bread. Don't ask them for anything else. They'll just do it begrudgingly anyway. read more
