I first discovered Sol y Sazon during their Taco Tuesday buffet and was pleasantly surprised. Everything I tried was delicious, there was a great variety of options, and for $16 all-you-can-eat, it was an incredible value. My favorite was their chicken tinga, which reminded me of the chicken burritos I used to get back in my hometown across the bridge. I immediately told myself I'd have to come back and order a chicken tinga burrito. A few weeks later, I finally returned on a Sunday while they were serving their World Cup Sunday brunch. I ordered a chicken tinga super burrito and a California burrito to take home. I was really excited to dig in, but when I opened the bag, the "super" burrito looked more like a regular burrito. The flavors were still great, but the filling was disappointing. There was barely any chicken or sour cream, and I had to eat more than halfway through before I finally got a decent balance of meat, rice, and beans. I even had to add my own sour cream because there was so little inside. As for the California burrito, it was just okay. The fries were stale, and there wasn't enough sour cream or guacamole, which made the burrito pretty dry. It honestly reminded me more of a breakfast burrito than a California burrito, and I wasn't a fan. Overall, the flavors are definitely there, and it's clear the food has potential. However, the portions felt skimpy for the price, making the burritos feel overpriced. I'll give Sol y Sazon another chance because I know they're capable of making delicious food, but if my next experience is like this one, they'll likely lose me as a customer. read more

Sunday brunch buffet is $25 for adults and $12 for children. And it is popular! We arrived around 9:05am right after they opened and the restaurant was already half filled. Lots of families. (Parking situation isn't great. It's along a busy street in Vallejo. No lot. Also it's next door to a gas station. It's probably best to park around the corner in the more residential are and walk over.) I liked all the choices in the brunch buffet. There's something for everyone. There's fried food for the picky kids. There's the traditional breakfast staples like pancakes and eggs and fresh cut fruit. There's also the Mexican food options like different types of chips and cheese, birria, chicarrones. They even had tamales. And of course multiple types of salsas. I will say the salsas all had a lot of seeds so there's a bit of a kick to them. They have Mexican pastries/conchas. There's coffee and cucumber fruit infused water at the end. There's also arroz con leche. The buffet set up was very clean. It was intuitive which serving spoons belonged to which dish. It's something different from the usual breakfast spots. It'd be a great spot for bringing hungry teenagers or other people that eat a lot. I was full after one plate and wished I had more room to try everything else. We also tried the mango mimosa which came out in a glass rimmed with tajin! Brunch isn't advertised super well. I couldn't find the price online and only knew about the brunch buffet from Yelp. I think they may be affiliated with the Que Onda in town which serves some good Mexican food so I'd come back to try their other foods. read more

Wow! I was excited called into the living room to be told that Super burritos and quesabirra were both on sale through a delivery app! I was starving so of course I said let's do it! We ordered 2 super burritos (I got Carnitas and he got Carne Asada) 2 quesabirria and a thing of pico. The quesabirria taco came topped with a little cotija cheese and diced onions, also there was some pickled red onions, carrots and radishes in the container. That taco was the absolute best I have ever had! It was super flavorful from the homemade taco to the delicious rich meat... Maybe it was hunger maybe it was the taco being so good but I ate it in 4 bites as I was fighting the taco losing items and the consommé and the pickled items all at once. The consommé was insanely flavorful (I drank the rest as I fished meat and onions out) the pickled onions were like none I have had at a Mexican restaurant they were more like bbq ones with apple cider vinegar. 5/5 for sure The Carnitas burrito now was insanely delicious with the grilled tortilla and the pinto beans and rice but the Carnitas itself was incredibly seasoned and bits were crispy and bits were soft... I feel bad that I didn't get a pic after I opened the foil but there was no way I was putting that down! Dad said the Carne Asada was super flavorful as well I wish I could add more adjectives for his burrito. The order came with a bag of chips that were seasoned well also! The salsa for the chips (we think) was smoky and had a great heat. The ranchera salsa that came was really good too and that's not just because it's my favorite style. We happened to be in the area. It was late in the day and we were starving. My wife likes Mexican food as she is Mexican. I have to admit I particularly do not care for Mexican food. Either way, we decided to go to this place. The neighborhood is not very impressive to be honest with you, and parking was a bit of a challenge. But we decided to try it anyway. The host and the waitresses were very nice. We were going to sit down and order something, but waitress recommended the buffet. We tried it as the price was curiously inexpensive (now don't go raising the prices on us if you're management reading this!) Let me tell you, I was so impressed! Everything was perfectly prepared and so tasty! They had all you could think of including churros for dessert which were out of this world! I highly recommend this place! The wait for a table was close to no wait and the server comes by to take drink orders and clean up any finished plates. Decided to try this place today with my husband. I didn't know it was a buffet on Sunday. Win! My husband ordered chilaquiles divorciados. Huge plate with two kinds of chilaquiles a carne asada steak and a grilled chicken breast. I went for the buffet. They had pozole, menudo, fresh fruit, pan dulce, scrambled eggs, pancakes, chicharones en chile verde, pork in chile verde, beacon, sausages, tamales and a few other things I couldn't remember. To drink on the buffet the offered cafe de olla. Parking was difficult to find but friends it is sooooo worth looking for it!! As a Mexicana this food is delicioso. Before I begin, I want to say that I totally plan on giving this place another try and will edit my review once I do. My spouse and I recently tried take out from here and it was part of a birthday extravaganza weekend :) Items tried: taquitos dorados de papa, chilaquiles rojos and sopa de pollo. The good: The staff was kind and really quick to take the order and get the food ready. It was hot and packaged well. The flavor was great and not greasy on all the items. The beans on the chilaquiles plate were *chef's kiss* and the taquitos were perfect. The sopa de pollo was on point flavor wise as well. Tasted just like homemade sopa. The chilaquiles were amazing too. The tortillas (corn) were excellent and fresh. The not so good (and reason I knocked off two stars): While all the dishes were great flavor wise... something pretty miserable happened with the sopa. I can't say for sure but it seemed we were given the very last dregs of maybe the days prior soup? Or perhaps someone didn't really take care in that part of the order. I'll never know for sure. The container wasn't all the way full and it was mostly broth. I was a bit shocked and actually counted that it contained one single cube of potato, 2 small pieces of carrot and 3 pieces of chayote. And 1 chicken leg. This is supposed to be a whole meal (not an appetizer). It wasn't filling at all. I wasn't going to eat my spouse's meal so, I tried to get full but it was kind of a sad thing. It came with sides and unfortunately the rice was dry & slightly old. The rest of the sides (cilantro & onion + tortillas) were fresh and good. I ordered delivery, chicken mole and a la carte chicken enchilada. Nothing was overtly bad, but it wasn't very good either. The mole was meh. The chicken was way overcooked and dry. The sauce was more spicy than I am used to with mole. I know there are regional differences in the sauce but it is usually a sauce of complexity with a variety of flavors. This was very one note spicy which made it far less interesting. The black beans were unseasoned and a little gummy. The rice was ok. The corn tortillas were good. I wanted green sauce on the enchilada but didn't see a way to request or customize. Again, the chicken was dry, and the sauce wasn't very interesting. Based on reviews, I thought it would be better. Perhaps they are all written by the owner's friends who are tyring to help keep the place afloat. There's great Mexican food in Vallejo, but not here. read more

Everyone raved about the tacos, beans, rice, and the generous selection of fresh toppings. The refreshing Horchata was a huge hit too--perfect for a summer celebration! Habib's service was top-notch--he took care of all the setup and cleanup, which made things so easy for us. We had plenty of delicious food for our guests, and everything was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. If you're planning an event, I highly recommend Sol Y Sazon--we would absolutely hire them again! Sometimes the food is hot garbage, falling apart, with lackluster flavor. The thing is, when a restaurant is charging this much money the food should never be 1 star. Today we paid $48 for 6 tacos. Easily 5 stars. Such a hidden gem type of place. We started with queso fundido (not pictured) which was a great appetizer. We got our mains pictured below, and horchata to drink. Everything had so much flavor, along with excellent service. Sad to say we were the only ones in here on a Saturday night- my only "improvement" would be a bit of a more welcoming environment. When I placed my order, I did it through Grubhub and I didn't realize at the time that I had ordered the plate with whole beans. I called the restaurant and asked if they could switch them out with refried beans and they were really understanding and accommodated my request. Especially since, when I got my order, I had both refried and whole beans. They had already plated my order with my original choice, when I called to change. I received a call just minutes before the pick up time after paying $95 for several orders saying they didn't have carnitas or chile verde (3 of my orders had to be changed). They didnt offer any upgrades or any sort of compensation. When I arrived I was quizzed about my order and my reciept scrutinized. None of the other patrons in the restaurant were made to show their receipts. In addition to being treated like a criminal during pick up the food was NOT good. The al pastor Super Burrito had globs of cheese that were hard and unevenly distributed thru the burrito. The steak and chicken Super Burrito was small. Overall not the experience I was looking for. Joel is an awesome host and was able to give us recommendations of what we should get to get the best experience. We got the Chillaquiles Divorciados, the Green Pozole, the Carne con huevos and the Birria Ramen and Quesabirrias for dinner. When check them out again for dinner. We got the Combo Casuela, which had chorizo, steak, chicken, shrimp in this yummy sauce with cheese and a yummy grill nopal. They definitely did not disappoint us.
