We always put our orders in and is always ready when we arrive. No worries to find parking. There's plenty. Street and lot. When we arrive, we're greeted every time. The place has a nice fiesta feel with the wall art and table set up. Very spacious as well. The staff are so friendly and kind. And can't forget generous with their food portions and salsa. Called in a order for a super carne asada burrito. I removed the guacamole, onions, and lettuce. The burrito is just full of rice and maybe a small scoop of meat on one side of the burrito/ towards the bottom of the burrito. Upon arrival there were a few napkins on the floor and our table needed cleaning but otherwise the place was clean. Service The wait for the meal seemed long but that could have been because I was starved. Lol. The server was obviously inexperienced and didn't know the answer to questions about the food. The green salsa was a little spicier (and I like that) than the red but it had an ingredient that caused my palate to overact so I stopped eating it. The red is usually my favorite salsa but here it's very watered down without much flavor. So I requested jalapeños on the side which were served refrigerator cold. It's been well over 20 years since I last visited El Pitayo and I remember how amazing their quesadillas are. Since their relocation, it's easier to visit and just as delicious as I remembered it. This location is large and spacious, plenty of tables and can easily accommodate a large party. There's a large parking lot next to the building and street parking. When we arrived there was only a handful of people, we were instantly greeted and were asked to choose our own seats. The dining area was clean and well kept. The service was friendly and we ordered the breakfast burrito and menudo with hominy. The menudo was amazing and had the perfect depth of flavor that I've been craving for. We don't often venture to downtown Fairfield, so I consulted Yelp ratings before deciding on El Pitayo. Apparently they have just recently moved to this location....and it shows. The large room is very bare bones with almost no decoration: with large, open kitchen taking the whole left side. The first thing we all noticed is how cold it was. I would usually take the top layer off when sitting inside, but not at El Pitayo. The low lighting and lack of any background music did not contribute to the warm holiday atmosphere, which one would expect around this time of year. After we were greeted and offered menus, we were told to take any table, since they were not too busy. The drinks and food, along with the basket of chips came within the expected timeframe. However, the service was more on the mediocre side as the server did not check on us very frequently and forgot to bring more salsa once the plates came out. As some of the other Yelp reviews noticed, the salsa portions that come with chips are way below adequate :( Overall, the food was tasty and authentic, though lettuce and sour cream on tacos is not something that we consider standard. Their tinga plate, which I had, was very good and we all loved the handmade tortillas. While El Pitayo did not live to the high ratings, with some improvements I can see the potential. The food was very good, but the ambiance and service both need some work. Maybe they're still figuring things out? I won't be in a hurry, but wouldn't mind checking back in in a few months. read more

First off I have to say the service is outstanding. I had a group of 16 people and we were all looking for a good place to sit down and eat and I wanted to go to this restaurant but it was closing in 30 minutes. I looked on yelp to find other Mexican restaurants I felt I could share with my friends and did not find anything. I figured I would call Eddie and see if he could fit us in with 28 minutes left before closing. Not only did Eddie let me know that they'd be happy to see us, but he promised me that we could come in there take our time and not feel rushed. This was my first time to El Pitayo, as I understand it this is a new location for them. My husband and I stopped by for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. It was relatively empty when we fist arrived, but boy did that change. The location seems nice a big with high ceilings. There was one woman working as the hostess/server and the other employees were in the kitchen working. My husband ordered a burrito and I ordered a quesadilla. Wow was everything good! The tortilla on my quesadilla and the flavorful meat were delicious and totally hit the spot. The server was doing great managing all the tables, because by the time we left there was hardly an empty table. If I were local this would definitely become one of my regular spots. read more

Stopped by for a quick bite. It was quite busy when we arrived but we were seated quickly. I ordered the sope with carne asada and gordita with chicharron. A delightful surprise. My brother and I were meeting up, and in the mood for Mexican food. It was a cold and blustery day, and the server said to sit where I liked. I had a seat, then he came over with water and told me I was sitting in the coldest part of the restaurant and he'd show me a seat where the air wasn't blowing directly on me. This restaurant had 4 stars and the pictures of the food looked good on Yelp, so we figured he'd give it a try. We ordered the food over the phone, and It was a 20 minute drive to go get the food. Pros: - hand made tortillas - real ingredients prepared fresh - staff is hard working and attentive and courteous - restaurant was very clean and inviting Cons: - food was bland. Adding salt helped but it still needed more flavor - my daughter got a super burrito and doesn't eat salty foods, and even she didn't like the burrito (she's usually easy to please) - I got a super burrito too with everything, added salt and salsa but still bland. Also, the ingredients didn't seem spread out evenly: lots of rice at the bottom, all the meat in the middle, all the beans at the other end. - someone else got the chile verde dish, and that was too salty. - yet another person got the Carnitas, and it was good (yay) - the tortilla chips were stale. Not sure if they were yesterday's chips, or chips that have been left out all day or what, but they were stale:( - the horchata (drink) was not good. It just wasn't good. - we got 1 glass bottle of coke for $5. Is that what a coke costs now? Ok. This place has been our go to restaurant for burritos and Pozole for a while! We recently came here in the beginning of summer. Haven't quite found a great burrito spot in Vacaville / Fairfield area. but we gave the place a chance and thankfully we did. Our usual order are 1 order of carne asada and shrimp burrito and sometimes ill do a surf and turf burrito every now and then. I love the carne asada is crispy and flavorful. sounds odd and irregular but it just works. sometimes i've had carne asada that's just too chewy. the shrimp is well seasoned. compared to other shrimp burritos, this place does a great job and there's a lot in the burrito. I noticed the burritos are well balanced and I believe they use fresh tortillas. I've tried the pozole and it's pretty good! The first time I've tried it, i forgot to mix from the bottom so it was not as flavorful and only ate the Hominy but the 2nd time it was better. Chips are always included. We usually order for takeout so I can't speak for dining in. It's unfortunate the recent reviews have been low. We have yet to experience what they have stated. I'd say give this place a try. The Carne asada was flavorless, and overcooked so it was dry. They put a guacamole like half of a teaspoon, and the guacamole was not freshly made - I can tell it was stored.. I had to ask for utensils, it was a kid who served us. Suggestion, teen needs to be trained to be more attentive to what is needed in tables. Example- napkins, forks, spoons and knifes. My husband ordered the chimichanga - no flavor! The meat was over cooked. It had the texture of Carnitas crispy. The attention to our table's need was not the greatest. We had to ask for utensils, "twice". We didn't even have napkins. We shared the one we had. So overall, $31 of food, not worth it. Ambiance was good. Good music. Took 30 minutes after that before food came. A party of 4 came in 30 minutes after we did and they all got their food. I brought that up to the person working there and they looked lost. They came and apologized then brought the food out. Mind you we ordered about as basic as you can get. Chile verdes and nachos. There was a huge party there of about 10 people which we felt bad for them because their food came out at different times and took forever also. They were offered of course free deserts and we weren't offered anything. Food was bland at best. Didn't say anything we just left the food and paid.
