Chocolate tres leches for 28yr old man......requested traditional decoration for a tres leches cake including fruit. This is what we got
    Rosie C.

Paid over $90 for this "chocolate tres leches cake" asked for it to be decorated like a traditional tres leches cake with fruit and this is what I got, this is a cake for a 28yr old man(which I stated when ordering) no fruit, and nothing was chocolate except the cake. Customer service was also horrid, called to complain and was told the daughter which I'm assuming was the owner would call me back in 5 minutes and still hasn't called me back over a week later. I wanted to use a locally owned bakery instead of a commercial one but really really regret it. Food City would have done a better job. If nothing else we got a good laugh out of the monstrous, ugly cake. Save your money if you're looking for a chocolate tres leches cake, or any cake for that matter!!!

Tried this place since it had great reviews. Wasn't impressed. Took home a variety of pan dulce. The concha was burnt. Lacked customer service. Will not be coming back as they forgot my bolillo for my menudo as well.

A wonderful hole in the wall on the NE corner of Southern and 16th street but watch out because it's so small you can miss it! La Mejor is an excellent Mexican Bakery/ Panaderia if your craving some fresh and delicious pan dulce. I grew up eating Mexican pastries in Guadalupe at 'The Flores Bakery' which was THE BEST pan dulce you could ever have! but sadly the place was closed years ago and it has been extremely hard to find another place that can compete with it. No worries though!! because this place comes pretty damn close. :) Prices are CHEAP and you can always bet on the goods being fresh but as ALL Panaderia's the best time to go is in the morning so you don't have to worry about pastries that have been sitting around for hours. Try it! My favorites are always the Cuernito's, Pumpkin Empanada's and of course the classic Concha's. :)

With that said there are regular bakery options too, but you can not go wrong either way because many of the gf options look and taste better than the other bakery options. I got the peach cobbler cupcake, which was almost $7, and for that price I was definitely expecting more. The texture was honestly so strange. The outside was dry and crumbly, while the inside had this really dense, gummy/doughy texture. Somehow it was dry and doughy at the same time. There were actual pieces of peach in it, but I could barely taste any peach flavor. Overall, it just didn't have much flavor at all. I'm not sure if it was specifically the flavor I chose or if it's because I'm not really used to vegan baked goods. I can definitely appreciate that they offer options for people who are vegan, have allergies, or have certain dietary restrictions and still want to satisfy their sweet tooth. But for me personally, the taste and quality just didn't justify paying almost $7 for one cupcake. The customer service didn't really help the experience either. Since it was my first time, I asked the girl at the front what their best sellers were and what she recommended. I was genuinely trying to make conversation and get some guidance on what I should try, but she wasn't very helpful or engaging. It honestly felt like I was talking to a wall. Overall, it's a cute spot and I appreciate what they offer for people with dietary restrictions, but between the price, texture, lack of flavor, and customer service, it just wasn't for me.

In our day's Sunnyslope business, our niece took us to Kris Frybread. Arriving we saw Dawn's. She said Dawn's gets high ratings too. After our excellent Kris meal I made my way to Dawn's. I am infamous in the family for my dessert rxtravagance. But I share with all at our table. Take your choice! Our niece got cannoli, I got lidded shortbread custard cups, vanilla and almond. Sweet D got a cherry and an apple turnover delivered into the box. It is five days later. My sugar intake has dropped a lot. In our home baking we cut sugar ingredients by half. Older Hopi bakers put in enough sugar for a hint of sweet in their cookies. Modern bakers glaze them. I'll take those traditional ones. When I say the shortbread cup with custard was too sweet for me, that's my 21st century palate speaking. The almond cup was a buy-again item for me, still sweet, very almond. The cherry turnover was flaky, the filling tart, oozing fillng and cherries. The gold medal, blue ribbon "I'd buy this again, for sure is the apple turnover. We will return for some more flaky, apple-y goodness. The webpage makes mymouth water. I see many items are normal and mini sized. Great idea Dawn.

The aroma alone is worth the visit; it wraps around you the second you step through the door and feels like a warm welcome. The staff is consistently friendly and genuinely helpful with recommendations (which you'll need when everything looks that good). Every item I've tried has been incredibly fluffy, moist, and full of flavor -- the kind of bakery where you can taste the quality in every bite. A true neighborhood gem that makes indulgence feel justified.

I can't speak on the customer service as we never left our table and our waited just walked over and got what we needed. We were pretty stuffed from our massive meal, but we decided on sharing a cup of gelato just to satisfy our sweet tooth. I peeked inside as our table was right at a little walkway from the restaurant to the bakery. Gelato is just one of many things they serve here. They also have all your typical Italian desserts. Cakes like tiramisu, pastries like Italian flag cookies, cookies like Italian wedding cookies, cannolis of different varieties, and of course gelato. What was suggested to us if we wanted gelato was the hazelnut flavor. I was expecting a little cup for the 6 of us just to get a taste, but what he brought over was a massive serving. I don't know how many scoops it was or even how much we even paid, but we all got plenty with some even left behind. Now this gelato was life changing. Probably the best I've had in the states. I know it's gotta be way better in Italy, but I'll take what I can when I can. Think of a Ferrero Rocher but in gelato form. It was delicious and I couldn't get enough of it. It wasn't overly sweet and it had a little crunch with bits of chocolate and hazelnuts. My sweet tooth was extremely satisfied after having dessert here. I have literally been thinking about that gelato since I left Phoenix. Luckily this company has locations in Texas so I will definitely be seeking out this gelato soon.

We've worked our way through what feels like almost the entire dessert case over the years, and I can honestly say I've yet to find something I didn't love. Every pastry is beautifully crafted, incredibly fresh, and tastes like it was made with so much care. This visit was all about the cannoli, and let me just say... craving officially satisfied! The shell had that perfect crisp snap, while the filling was silky, rich, and just the right amount of sweet. It was everything I had been dreaming about and then some. Walking into The Sicilian Baker always feels like stepping into a little slice of Italy. Between the gorgeous display of desserts and the irresistible aroma of fresh pastries, it's nearly impossible to leave with just one treat (don't say I didn't warn you! ). Whether you're stopping in for a post-dinner dessert, celebrating something special, or simply giving in to a sweet tooth like I did, this place is absolutely worth the visit. Every dessert we've tried has been phenomenal, and this cannoli was another delicious reminder of why we keep coming back. Sweet craving? Check. Happiness? Double check.
