They have a variety of baked goods and small cakes and flan slices for purchase to try in case you are on the fence over a cake. Super nice guy . Had a good conversation with him, he explained options and I brought home a dozen variety of different tasty generous filled fruit empanadas. The owner was so sweet and friendly. Happy to make suggestions and answer any questions I had. I ended up grabbing a classic concha, a guava empanada, apple empanada, and chocolate tres leches. Everything was great. The bakery itself and amount of items is small but everything is quality. Typically Mexican pastries are quite dry but these empanadas were soft and moist. Filling good, nothing was too sweet. Appreciated that the tres leches wasn't too sweet - nice contrast of cocoa and the refreshing leche. My 4 items came to be a little bit over $10. read more

The legendary tres leches cake is phenomenal. It truly is the best tres leches cake in Phoenix, maybe in all of Arizona. I called to order a cake for pickup at the end of the week. The man on the phone was extraordinarily nice and helpful. A few days later I picked up the cake and it was gorgeous. The man who helped me - presumably the man on the phone and the owner maybe? - was so kind and pleasant. My cake was ready to go. When I tried it, it was heaven. Always looking for authentic Mexican bakeries and this place was spot on. Whole selection isn't huge, but they still have good items to choose from. The owner (or we assumed) was friendly and helped explain items if they didn't have a label. Reasonable priced and quality was fresh. It's small but that's all you need for pastries to go. I was searching for a bakery in the area and came across this place on Yelp after a few pages of results. So glad I decided on this bakery because the owner is such a friendly man and he seemed so proud of his business. I felt like a valued customer and it put me in such a good mood because I was dealing with another business that threw that term around too loosely prior to deciding I was going to eat my feelings. Anyway, get the flan. It's legit and such a large piece! I inhaled the concha on my drive home and the crumbs everywhere are worth it. Called my hubby and told him I needed him to shop vac my lap before I got out of the car - he was confused. Haven't gotten into the empanadas yet but the owner recommended the pineapple, apple and lemon. I bought pineapple and apple. For 5 items, my total came out to a little over $10. Seriously amazing. Yes, the place is quaint yet it has wide varieties of pan that are within 3 glass cases! The moment we walked in we could smell the pan being freshly made - it smelled yummy! The owner was very friendly and proud of his shop. Service was quick as we were able to make our own selection and he helped by boxing our "small" amount of pan dulce! From the street Carmen's Bakery is a hidden gem in a small plaza, but is very worth finding. As soon as I entered the building I was greeted warmly. The man who rang me up was happy to tell me about the different pastries he offered. I took him up on the flan and vanilla tres leches cake, as well as a bag of conchas. Upon getting home I tried each of them and was floored by the freshness and flavor. Each item was delicious from the first bite to the last, and the conchas almost melted in your mouth.
