The cakes were ok... the filling barely gives it the flavor you hope ( custard, taro etc) and you pay extra for a double filling. This bakery was closed for some time. During my visit to Mekong Plaza, I noticed the door was open and with a different name. This place has changed their name from AAozzy Bakery to Sweet Time Bakery. It still carries sweets that bear the old name of the bakery. Each sweet is individually wrapped which keeps everything sanitary. The place is clean, their sweets are very good and reasonably priced. Shared parking and WiFi. read more

I saw these on the way on the way out of Mekong Plaza at a little stand. I only tried one because I didn't know what they would taste like but I was pleasantly surprised. Not bad! My third time in Mekong Plaza and my friend actually recommended this place. I got a vanilla milano and a red bean moon cake. The moon cake was good and the vanilla milano was alright. I came here for some of these yummy cake like desserts filled with flavor. I believe we ended up getting taro, vanilla, honey, and baked cream. This is a Taiwanese bakery and they have all kinds of buns, cakes, cookies, loaves, and pastries here. I bought a ton of items so I'm going to try to break it down. Also, they sample most of their buns which was nice! Buns and pastries are about $2, while loaves are $6. 5/5 Amazing! -The Coconut Bun with Baked Cream! To die for! -The Red Bean filled bun was delicious too! 4/5 Good! -All of the pastries have excellent fillings with very rich flavors but the outside is a little tough. My friend dragged me here because she couldn't get enough of the Chinese pocket donuts filled with stuff. I honestly have no idea what they are calling it in Chinese. I don't think they do either, there is no name for it, just a sign on the case that says "# for $X". The young man making our pastries was great. You know that iconic scene in Ratatouille where Anton Ego takes a bite of ratatouille and is immediately transported to his childhood? Yeah, that's me and Asian baked goods. So what's the big deal, you ask. Bolo buns - buns with or without fillings with a cracked sugar crust on the top. Taro fillings. Char siew buns. Chinese pancakes, aka old school taiyakis without the fancy fish design (if that entire sentence sounded like gibberish, I demand that you march down there and get yourself a Chinese pancake or look up taiyakis on Instagram - you've been missing out). Also, mooncakes. I've never been big on mooncakes but Mid-Autumn Festival is this coming Monday and you know what, I've been pretty dang festive this Fall (don't judge me, I like me my PSLs) and I don't discriminate. This bakery is conveniently located inside the Mekong shopping plaza. The bread always tastes freshly made. Employees always offer samples of whatever bread it is they are baking at the time. Shared a crepe ($4.50) and had 2 filled pancake pastries ($.75 each). The crepe tasted a little rubbery, but I did like that it was a chocolate flavored crepe. It was filled with a decent amount of whipped cream, cake, and banana. The pancakes didn't taste very fresh. I had a taro and green tea, the filling tasted good but the outer pancake was also a bit rubbery and chewy. Service was friendly and we did get a free sample of crepe. Workers are very friendly and the pastries are made fresh but I personally feel like it is very pricy for what it is. $6 for a loaf of "Taro bread" but I'm not sure what's so Taro about it. Disappointed. The bread is still edible, it doesn't taste bad or anything but the flavor isn't there and it's not very moist or fluffy. I haven't tried the other breads that were purchased (Coconut loaf, Taro pastry, coffee pastry, and coffee biscuits) but I don't have very high expectations for them either. read more

Really small bakery with the standard asian baked goods like barbeque charsiew buns, coconut buns and steamed baos. My go to is the yogurt bun cos it's super creamy and light! They're pretty pricey at @2.25/piece, but they're pretty much the only decent Asian bakery around the Mesa area! :) Plus they have free fresh samples of whatever's baking at the time. I think this bakery lacks a lot like ambience, ample seating, etc. but I truly enjoyed the fresh pancakes with filling! I got them to-go. They smelled delicious from a far. I found myself gravitating towards the smell but was a little skeptical because of the environment. I'm glad I got some though! They had a deal going on 7 for $5 but I found that too much just for myself. I got a couple of the custard-filled and the red bean-filled pancakes. Both types were delicious. My girlfriend and I finally had the opportunity to stop in here together during one of our regular visits to Mekong Plaza. Both the quality and variety of their products are good, their selections are traditional and fairly authentic, and the prices are reasonable. My girlfriend, who is a native of mainland China, and were satisfied with everything we've tried thus far. Other reviewers have mentioned that the taste of their products is somewhat bland. However, my impression of Asian baked goods in general is that the flavors and sweetness are milder when compared to European style pastries and so I have come to expect this and actually prefer it. I'm looking forward to another opportunity to stop in sometime soon to try a few more of their items and will post and update accordingly. read more

Go there in 12/26/2020, the day after Christmas, brought 6 bag of bakery all at full price. When eat them, it is like rubber, dry, not fresh at all. Apparently they put bakery they made several days ago there for sale without replacing them, particular after 12/25 holiday they closed. Sick of it, will never go again. The staff at AA OZZY bakery inside Mekong normally tempts me with tasty treats while I wait for Rice House take-out. The staff is quiet but kind, and usually sucker me into trying whatever sweet-smelling concoction that has just exited the oven. I always enjoy when they are making Chinese pancakes, and love them all: honey, coconut, custard and red bean. The pineapple tarts are great, as are the fresh macaroons. The breads are hit or miss. I normally go for a yogurt bread or cranberry bread. There is a sweet crumbly topping and creamy insides that I enjoy. Sometimes, they can be dry depending in the time of day. Give it a try. The bbq and cream cheese buns could have been better. They weren't bad, but I wouldn't get them again. They both could have been more flavorful. First time in the Phoenix area so we were exploring for some Chinese grocery stores...of course we opened yelp and it took us to MeKong Plaza on S. Dobson. I guess it can be classified as a Asian strip mall, with Asian restaurants-gift shops-beauty salon-jewelry-bakeries all anchored by the well stocked Me Kong market. If you need anything to cook an Asian dish, they'll have it. So we noticed that in the entryway they had a couple tables that were cooking some great smelling pastries, and people were lined up to get theirs. We didn't have time to wait so we wandered into the Aaozzy Bakery...it turns out that the 2 tables in the entry were their people. I bought a couple Cha sui bao(bbq sweet pork baked buns), a baked taro pastry with sweet yellow bean filling, and a pineapple filled flaky pastry...all were surprisingly tasty with lots of fillings! Of course the cities with a greater proportion of Asians (San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, New York) have better and wider selections of vendors to choose from but at least Phoenixians won't have to travel out of their area to get decent and authentic Asian food I'll definitely be back! read more

I tried the taro bun and honey bbq bun, which were less than $5 combined. They were quite large - a good portion for the price. However, the bread was a bit dry and while both fillings were quite tasty, there wasn't enough filling for the bread. Overall, I thought it was a decent bakery and it was conveniently located in the Mekong grocery strip mall. This place is a carb lovers dream come true. This bakery is not only quaint but also absolutely authentic. As soon as you walk in you can see the divide between the operations side of the house and the finished product. The right side of the narrow bakery is lined with wicker baskets boasting the fresh baked goods of the day. These are conveniently packaged individually and labeled with flavors and pricing. The left side of the bakery is where all the magic happens. All the while the staff is attentive to questions and offering samples. WIFE PASTRY - flaky on the outside but hard and crumbly inside. Complained to lady behind the counter to say that pastry is old. All she said was "No. New. No old here." Well I beg to differ because this kind of pastry should be soft and gooey on the inside. My mom was so pissed that she crushed the pastry she was complaining about in her hand. The lady just walked away with her nose up in the air. VANILLA COOKIES - the oval kind about 3-4 inches long. Tasted ok. Not too sweet but alas lacks "creaminess" I've come to expect in these kind of cookies.
