The name "La Loncheria" does not inspire much confidence for me. I associate loncherias with the workforce daytime eateries across the CBDs of most Mexican cities. For a vegetarian, this would usually mean a very basic torta de queso panela, a sandwich boring enough to feel at home at Pret A Manger. In contrast, Bushwick's "Loncheria" comes alive in the evenings, and reminds me of one of my favorite mezcalerias in GDL, Pare de Sufrir - slightly divey but nonetheless inviting (and of course offering a plentiful variety of mezcals). Another great NYC Mezcaleria. One of the most casual mezcalerias that I've been to. Very approachable bar display. There are no bottles blocking each other offering excellent visibility. There online menu has lots of information too in order to help you make a decision. I'd definitely return for mezcal. Before delving into the mezcals, I was intrigued by the happy hour specials. $7 for guacamole and $7 for a michelada. I never had the michelada, so I figured this was a good opportunity. It was interesting to say the least. I'd stick to a margarita next time. Guac and chips were good to get in some bites while contemplating the rest of the menu. We decided to go with the different tacos: the barbacoa, carnitas, and the tuna. Two tacos per each order. Each order was $13, so on the pricey side at $6.50 per taco. Came with cilantro, lime, sauce, and onions. I was surprised that the onions were chopped instead of minced. Made the onions more pronounced. Service was quick and attentive. The bartender who was also the hostess and our waitress was bustling! She was knowledgeable on the mezcals and made a great recommendation. There was one small gender neutral restroom. What a delightful place! As someone who loves mezcal, I couldn't believe the great selection of high-quality mezcals, all 100% artisanal and from different varieties. This small unassuming bar packs a punch. A Pazzi Punch, that is. Named after the best bartender I've ever had, this drink cured my hangover in about 10 minutes flat. The spicy cucumber marg reminded me how beautiful life truly is and made me call my mother just to tell her I love her. The tuna tacos made me weep. The costra made my soul feel as if it was made of delicious melty cheese. I want to fill a pool with their homemade guac and eat my way out from the bottom. The last few times I've been, the servers and bartenders were wearing very silly aprons. Doesn't really affect my experience personally but it makes it feel like management is trying too hard to make the place something it's not. read more

Went here with a friend to take advantage of their happy hour on a Monday early evening. We were the first customers through the door around 5:45pm and promptly sat at the bar. We ordered a couple of margaritas and I also enjoyed a burger and a fish taco. The fish taco was a-ok in my opinion, but the burger was a real winner. Everything was priced super reasonably--especially since it was happy hour--and was very tasty (including the drink). The service was friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly. We definitely enjoyed our time here and noticed that they have a great back patio that would be an awesome spot for dinner during the warmer month. I'm going to start with the Salsa macha of chile ancho. This is a very dark red, with grind and seeds of a salsa. Just looking at it makes me want to awwwwww, man. I know something good is coming on top of my tacos. No, not good, very great. It doesn't have any off flavors. It is a high-medium to strong flavored chile flavor without any heat. It is smooth and thick. It does have a little oil but it is no watered down crap. The Tomatillo salso is lighter but still very good. Shared a bunch of tacos, a couple I forget the name of but all came on a lightly chewy soft grilled tortilla with the meat on the bottom and garnished on top with bits of sliced cabbage, onions and cilantro. With a little liquor later I am happy. The Taco La Costra and Cabeza are the ones I remember the name of. I have to go to my cell video to name them. But all in all good tasting tacos. There was a little bit of a unique and side item that for the second time I have tried: crickets. Those tasted a little like chewing on pills of hollow plastic/parchment paper sheets. Not much meat to crickets. Not bad. They went well with the Salsa macha of chile ancho. read more

I stopped in here for a quick drink and bite after a recent event at Brooklyn Cider House, and came away really impressed. I had the half-order of the lamb barbacoa torta, and it was incredible. Plenty large for one person to eat as a meal, and a powerful, rich flavor (helped along by the au jus dip). I also had the classic margarita for happy hour -- I wouldn't say it was the best margarita I've had, but for $5 it's hard to complain. I had heard of La Loncheria from an interview online and realized that it was quite close to home. So I picked up a friend of mine and headed over to give it a try. To say that the experience was enjoyable is an understatement. Firstly we had gotten parking very quickly and it seemed that parking would not be a problem. The atmosphere of the place was very relaxing and laid back. The restaurant wasn't huge, but comfortable for small groups and it did look as if they may have had a larger area in the back for a bigger group. We had come in the afternoon and not many people were there; however, we were greeted immediately upon walking in by our waitress. I had gotten the La Nina Popov ($11) and my friend had gotten the Ven A Mi ($11). Both tortas were phenomenal. The Popov was cooked perfect and the bit of fat on the lamb made the whole sandwich that much better. The Ven A Mi was also fantastic. Everything tasted so fresh and the brisket was cooked so well. The whole experience was fantastic. As we finished, happy hour had just started so we indulged in a few margaritas which also came with tomato soup. I found that a bit odd but I was not disappointed because the soup was fantastic and the Mezcal Margarita was great. The classic was alright as well but not quite as good as the Mezcal in my opinion. All in all, this place is a must go. The price point is fair and worth every dollar. Whether its lunch, happy hour, or dinner, you won't be disappointed and Im looking forward to coming back for more tortas and to try those tacos. read more

Ergo, because I'm awesome and have sacrosanct taste, I will offset dumb reviewers: This place has $5 dope ass margs at happy hour. This place also has dope ass $5 guac at happy hour. Most items are original and tasty and reasonably priced. They don't play shitty music. If you're curious what qualifies as shitty, think Sublime or Oasis or U2. Acceptable music is Frank Ocean or 13th Floor Elevators. You can order ceviche here. Ceviche is a dish you can't find in most places. It's also usually done poorly. Here it is yum yum and $10. If you are a harsh critic of this place you're probably really annoying in general. I assume you get burgers without cheese and don't understand the difference between cosmic and existential nihilism. God bless your soul. Nothing matters and we're all going to die. read more

I went with both the lamb and porchetta. Instead of getting a full sandwich for $13, you can do two halves for $7 each (along with some kettle chips), which is a fantastic concept. I couldn't decide which was better with the well cooked meats to the soft, light crusted buns they use. Definitely add some of the tomatillo (I believe?) sauce on the side. Just ate here last night and all I can say is, Wow! Everything is just so fresh, flavorful and elegant. Elevated Mexican food at non-extortionate prices. What a gem. Service is great too. Our waitress was super attentive and somehow managed to anticipate our needs before we even asked for things! What we had: -ceviche -house salad -guac -lamb belly torta -brisket torta -roast pork shoulder -killer green salsa and peanut mole on the side All were pretty mind-blowing, though the award goes to the pork shoulder. I liked the lamb belly better than the brisket - it is nice and fatty which I love (but my wife isn't so much into that texture, her loss). I don't usually eat bread but had to make an exception for the torta because it was too good. Also had amazing spicy margs for $5 at happy hour. It was supposed to come with some sort of snack which never came - will have to remind them next time! Dessert options were limited to just pear tart, so we just ordered the tres leches ice cream that usually accompanies the tart. Slightly disappointing only because it didn't taste that much like tres leches (and maybe we were just holding them to a higher standard because everything that came before it was perfect). Anyway it was still house-made and was good quality and may just be lighter in flavor to go with the tart. Perhaps with time they will expand their dessert selection here, but even if they don't that won't stop me from coming back here! In short, check this place out - you will not regret it.
