They now only have two taco choices for happy hour, carnitas and mushroom... disappointed the pork option is no longer available. Margarita for happy hour is only the basic lime and at 10$ would've like a flavor option. The margarita was just ok... tastes as if they use a premade mix (never my favorite), and just ok, nothing outstanding or worthy of a return. I tried the carnitas taco, which was actually very good 5$ and a sufficient amount of meat and toppings, however at 5$ would have preferred a standard size tortilla vs the mini version.... The meat tortilla ratio was off and had the tortilla been larger mathematically perfect. Overall a decent spot at happy hour, comfortable bar and friendly bartender. Our party of three walked in on a Friday night and managed to grab a table. Happy hour deals are pretty good - would come back for that again. We ordered: + Passionfruit margarita + Hot honey margarita + Chicken tinga tacos (HH) + Birria tacos (HH) + tuna tostada + Ramp quesadilla + Esquites Hot honey margarita was the best of the two, and I'd try their avocado one next time too. A little pricey, but enjoyable nonetheless. The ceviche was good, and so were the esquites but know that they come as corn ribs rather than a cup of esquites. The tacos aren't bad either, but for $18 i would skip those and go to Taqueria Ramirez. The vibes were on point and this is a nice place to catch up with someone. A welcome addition to the restaurant row of Greenpoint and generally hope they continue to do well; they are doing elevated Mexican date night vibe. The chips were interesting - they came as large circles with some pretty good guac, which was kind of fun. Would recommend if you are a local and looking for a new spot to check out but not sure that it's a destination spot if you live outside of Greenpoint. The dish needed a bit of lime juice to brighten it up, but otherwise it tasted alright. The portions felt a bit on the smaller side. The restaurant itself is a beautiful space. The decor gives it a southwestern vibe, with the exposed wood and succulents everywhere. They have a back patio, which is a great choice in good weather. The food was good, but too expensive at $31 after tax and tip. This makes it tough to recommend. read more

I do love the little cluster of restaurants along the western end of Greenpoint Avenue. It's like the Brooklyn equivalent of a strip mall, complete with all the essentials - a post-industrial park, a cocktail bar specializing in tinned fish, and of course an elevated CDMX-style Mexican establishment in Panzon. We shared most of the vegetarian items on the menu, starting with the guacamole and elotes ribs. The elotes ribs were slathered in mayo and naturally were fantastic, if a bit hard to eat (hence my usual inclination towards esquites). For larger plates, we had the cauliflower al pastor on a tostada and the machete quesadilla. The quesadilla was definitely my preferred option - it had a thick slab of rich white Oaxacan cheese, and of course I love a healthy portion of the paneer of the Americas. Solid, pretty cocktails, but nearly all of them were mezcal based and it would have been nice if there were a few more options. Tried a couple apps - Guacamole ($18), Frizzled Onions ($8). Onions were a too oily and cut too fine, but the seasoning was on point. Accompanying salsas were a nice touch. When our table was ready, we were seated at a communal table - not quite what I was expecting, but not a huge deal. We ordered the avocado margarita, a beer, guac, chicharron, and the frizzled onions. We waited a while for even drinks to come, and the food actually ended up arriving first. I was pretty disappointed in the portion size of the guac given the $17 price tag, and the onions were pretty oily. Overall, the experience felt rushed and overpriced. Ordering El Panzón is a must -- I loved the creaminess the avocado gives it and appreciated how the sweetness wasn't overwhelming. Super cool that they have such a large mezcal menu too. WOW ... my expectations were seriously exceeded. I had walked past and seen Panzón on social media a few times and decided to walk in and try it one Friday evening. We walked in with no reservation around 9 pm and were seated about 15-20 minutes later. The host was great, she brought us drink menus and took our order to the bar. The cocktails were very interesting, if you're interested in a fruity tequila or mezcal drink they didn't have too much of those however. I really liked the panzón cocktail and would recommend. The food was next level, it was so fresh and flavorful. Definitely get the guac, flautas, and birria tacos they were all great. The service and vibe was awesome too, they had a dj playing but it wasn't a "clubsterant" it was funky chill music you could still talk without shouting. Stumbled into Panzon last night after hearing great things and it did not disappoint. Great moody atmosphere, amazing cocktails and the food was phenomenal. Really friendly bartender gave great recs and helped make it a great experience. Panzon marg with avocado was so unique and tasty. Nice and smooth not too thick Tacos had a lot of meat and were very filling. Civiche was delicious. Menu labeled with allergens and had gf and vegetarian options. Fun new spot near the water in Greenpoint! I'm rarely in this neighborhood despite my love of it (public transit doesn't make it easy), so when I'm here I like to explore as much as I can. I'm surprised to see such mixed reviews, but we also didn't get any food here, so we were missing half of what Panzón has to offer. I also noticed that a lot of the bad reviews were from folks who live close by, and that's not an experience I can vouch for either. I liked it and I'm happy that I had a good time here, but I can appreciate the frustration too. But anyway, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and loved all of the drinks we ordered. We popped in here after getting dinner close by. I don't drink tequila but I love a good mezcal drink, of which Panzón has many. We grabbed two seats at a bar for easy access, though it's also always fun to watch the bartenders work. The space itself is sprawling, though we didn't explore much of it, as the bar is at the front of the venue. When we got there (at around 9:30/9:45) it wasn't very busy, but at some point after 10 it filled up considerably. Good thing we came when we did. The vibe is pretty chill, upbeat, some party vibes, good music. The only odd thing was that one of the speakers was clicking (some sort of audio or hardware issue, I guess), which was a little grating between songs. I have some unique icks though, so it's a minor pet peeve in the grand scheme of things. To start, my husband got the Barking Chihuahua (rum, lime, beer syrup) and I got the No Habla Inglés, No Habla Español (mezcal, pamplemousse, faccia brutto, lime). Both were excellent. I've made beer syrup with Guinness once and it's a fun and unique addition to a drink. Mine was essentially a mezcal version of a Last Word, though a lot more unique than the classic drink. Delicious, bright, citrusy, and well balanced. For our second round, my husband got the Hibiscus Spritz and I got the Spicy Gringo/Spicy White Negroni (madre mezcal, contratto aperitivo, vermouth blanc, spicy tincture). I love white negronis, I love mezcal negronis, and I love spicy drinks, so this was clearly right up my alley. I'm not a big fan of spritzes in general but this was a solid one. To finish, I got a spicy mezcal margarita with salt. This may seem like a boring final drink, but it was very exciting for me. I'd had margaritas twice in my life before this, and both times I got violently ill because I have a strange physical reaction (I call it an allergy but I'm not sure what it actually is) to tequila. So I hadn't had a margarita since 2014 (yes, I remember the day). This one hit the spot and was the perfect was to end the night. read more

Panzón is pretty much the most perfectly engineered woo girl spot? And I'm not saying this in a desparaging way. Tacos. Margs. Outdoor patio with beach vibes. Tuna tostadas packed with lip smacking acidity and richness. Savory tajín blasted chicharrones shaped like sand dollars. Dismantled bloomin fried onion shreds with some kind of southwestern ranch thing from the gods. Perhaps the best menu offering is the "your way" Margarita. Want to customize your margarita like your Starbucks bev? Of course you do. I prefer spicy mezcal with salt. This may all sound like a hipster dishing out shade - but it's not. I'm not complaining in the slightest. I love this spot. It's tough to find a spot that your vanilla Frappuccino friends AND your foodie friends can both rave about. But this is it. Had the special three garlic-shrimp tacos -- order arrived, 3 small-size tortillas laying open on the plate, with a little shredded cabbage and a couple (well-seasoned) shrimp in each one. Small, under-filled, and overpriced ($28 for these three little tacos felt criminal!). Nothing else on the plate -- no garnish, nothing. My partner had the Tinga tacos, also small and on an otherwise empty plate. We had Tres Leches for dessert which was moist and good. But got home hungry after a pricey (tiny) meal. I really enjoyed my first experience at Panzon and have already been back a few times now. It has a really fun atmosphere! I stopped by on opening night with some friends. Great music and vibe with an interesting take on Mexican food. The menu is pretty limited but some standouts included the chicken tacos (loved the smoky flavors!) and the wings which were very tangy from the tamarind. We also tried the mezcal flight which was delicious and perfect for sharing. They said they will rotate mezcals monthly so I'm excited to come back to try other producers. I came in on a Wednesday night and was sat immediately as a party of two. The restaurant is small but still feels spacious, and is very beautifully decorated in a modern mexican style. I ordered the tuna tostada, baja fish tacos, guac and chips, chorizo gorditas, and tinga tacos. Tuna tostada was delicious, fresh and balanced and I appreciated the everything seasoning as a nod to NYC. I think it was a little too expensive for the size but I get it. The baja fish tacos were my favorite dish. The fish was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the toppings really tied it all together. Guac and chips - i would typically skip guac on a menu but this was really yummy. I love roasted poblanos, because they're a labor of love and it shows in the guac. The chorizo gorditas were my second favorite because they took me to my childhood of eating fresh gorditas around a plastic table with family. The masa was everything, and the chorizo and beans were so warm and satisfying. The tinga tacos were generously stacked with chicken and had great flavor and spice. I would have liked more toppings on them. Other things of note The salsas: were perfect i practically drank the red one. The tortillas: loved that they actually heat them up on a comal as most NYC mexican establishments don't. The tostadas: they were very generous and offered us more of them as we ate. They went well with everything we ordered and were nice to munch on. The food came out super fast and hot. The service from front of the house could have been better and cocktails took quite a while, but I will say the quality of the food and drink made up for that.
