Went with my daughter for dinner. Menu was spectacular and everything was just as delicious as it sounded. There were 3 of us so we chose several items and were not disappointed with any of them. I honestly wasn't looking forward to coming here, but wife felt to drop by. The first thing we tried was the lemon pound cake and bread pudding cake, and wow, really nice flavors. Then I followed it with a pomegranate, orange juice, Topo Chico, Mix, kiss on the Beach. That's probably my new drink for this summer! This spot is so cute and great for outside seating (very Parisian). One of my qualms though is their lack of price labeling for desserts. I went in for a slice of the orange cake (theres no pricing by the cake)...thinking it coudlnt be that expensive. The cake was $9.50 for ONE slice. Then I am expected to tip 20% on someone handing over my slice (okay)? Mind you I've worked in the food industry for about 8 years of my life. The slice came to around $14! I know times are hard for businesses but they are also hard for patrons/customers. The least you could do is to put you prices more clearly. read more

Got the cauliflower sandwich, the special hot chicken sandwich and the crispy potatoes. They were all really good and delicious. The chicken was crispy (wish it was a tad spicier), the cauliflower sandwich is amazing and my favorite thing from here (as a meat eater), and the crispy potatoes are always just solidly good. The ambiance though was a little chaotic feeling. I felt really claustrophobic in there, as if everyone around me was just a bit too* close together. The table arrangement felt strange. I get wanting to maximize seating but one table was in such a weird tight corner, one by where everyone walked by to the bathroom, and one had a plant where someone would be seated by the window? Also there were several 4-seater tables that just had a single person at them just reading or on their phones with a coffee while groups were waiting. I get that it's seat yourself/first come but it felt really inconsiderate as parties of 3 would awkwardly cram into/sideways into a 2 seater table while that was happening. I wouldn't come back to dine in for sure. But the food is delicious so back to take out exclusively for me. read more

I discovered La Cantine because they provided food at the BLM vigil in Maria Hernandez Park. So, to start, they got major props from me for supporting the cause and providing for their local community. I took a chocolate chip cookie, and oh man, it was the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had! It was thin and chewy with huge chocolate discs in it. It was even delicious and perfectly fresh even when I ate it the next day. I look forward to visiting their storefront once things open up! read more

Cute place! Came here before a concert one night for a late lunch and loved it. I ordered a seasonal veggie sandwich on a baguette and then shared the dark chocolate banana bread with a friend that was pretty good. I do not know where to begin. I'll start from the staff. Therefore, I'll begin at the bottom. The customer service and overall attitudes from the staff are absolutely horrid and not conducive to the $30 lunch of a turkey sandwich and chai latte. when asked for silverware or napkins, they expect you to get up from your table (whether inside or outside) and get them yourself. What am I tipping you for exactly? And if they do choose to do their job and bring you silverware or napkins, they do so in the most begrudgingly demeanor possible. I live nearby and have frequented this establishment more than enough times to draw this conclusion. Next, the prices for these basic menu options are essentially highway robbery. My dirty chai latte comes out to nearly $12 with 18% tip, it's $9.80 prior. A sandwich and a coffee beverage is about $25. I could go get the black truffle gnocchi from Mastros for the same price. Paired with unsavory attitudes from the staff? No thank you. Lastly, the food tastes very decent. But, you might as well to go a 4 star restaurant in Manhattan. I came here to have a cute girly brunch with my friend at the start of spring. It was wonderful! They had a very minimal feminine aesthetic and the menu was full of healthy choices. We also could not leave without trying out the dessert and a bit of pastry. One lil set back was just the lattes, although they did taste great, it just was missing a bit of a punch for extra caffeine. I had such an enjoyable experience with the server here and although you order at the front, the servers were very attentive to the tables and kept them tidy. It is a small seating space and you are pretty close to your neighbors. However, the crowd it attracted is pretty hip and mostly a nice mix of non binary, lgbtq and women. Admittedly, this place was just around the corner from her apartment, but I kept coming back for the great service and great food! I had La Fall Vegan on a whim and was happy to find that it was a really light but filling lunch. The acidity of the vegetables complimented the earthiness of the hummus and poblano peppers. The second stint I came back to try one of their beautiful cakes and packed away a slice of their olive oil cake in 3 seconds flat. The staff were so nice and happy to recommend things to me since they knew I was only visiting for the weekend. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. read more

This pleasant, quaint restaurant is quite popular. I arrived at 1pm on a Monday and it was quite busy. Those of us in line were told that there would be a thirty-minute wait on food. For me, I was only ordering one sandwich, so they said mine might not take quite so long as the wait time communicated. I ordered the jambon beurre sandwich. Bread, ham, salted butter, Comte cheese ($2 surcharge), and sliced cornichons, I believe. With tip it was $20. Expensive. The sandwich was pretty good. Could have been a tad bigger, given the price. And while there was plenty of ham, I don't remember it being that flavorful. But this is the only place in the Williamsburg/Bushwick area to get a jambon beurre. Much cheaper than flying to Paris. I enjoyed eating my sandwich at one of the tables outside. Perhaps next time I will try some pastries. I have given up eating sweets and desserts for Lent this year. read more

Listen... my weekend is not complete without a Jambon Buerre and an Iced Lavender Latte from La Cantine. Like clockwork I wake up every Saturday and my body instantly craves the crunch of ham and butter between baguette and cornichon. My partner and I recommend this place to everyone, only to find that everyone already knows and feels the same way we do. It is simply our favorite, and apparently the entirety of Bushwick's, favorite spot for morning to late afternoon bites and bevs. I will end this by saying that La Cantine deserves a Michelin star. Saying their food is good is an understatement. It's delicious and I can't wait to go back to try more of their menu. This time, which was my first visit, I ordered hot chocolate with oat milk and a slice of cake. Their hot chocolate, which wasn't too hot, is among the best that I've had in NYC. It had a subtle sweetness that electrified my pleasure-food sensors. I was in food heaven. The cake also had a subtle quality to it. It was delicious and aesthetically pleasing. The icing and jam delicately sandwiched the soft moist cake in superb fashion. They appear to use highly quality ingredients, which you can clearly taste. La Cantine is a beautiful restaurant, offering indoor and outdoor dining. It's very clean and well laid out. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their inventory. Staff also followed and enforced the City's social distancing guidelines, which was very nice. I highly recommend La Cantine. read more

I don't know why it's taken me this long to write a review for this place (actually, I do cause #2020 -_-), but I'm literally getting emotional writing this love letter. Ioana and her staff run the best cafe in Bushwick. Everything is perfect. My personal faves are the oat date shake, crispy potatoes (I ask for extra garlic aioli ugh yum), the chicken cutlet (with bacon!), and of course, the two brown butter chocolate chip cookies. Follow them on Instagram cause they post their daily updated menu (everything is made fresh!) and they have fun specials (Chef Caitlin's porchetta sandwiches are *LITERALLY* chef's kiss).
