I once got a enchilada combo and it wasn't hot, so I had a feeling it wasn't as fresh? Either way, this is good for a late night snack and a place that all Cal students should eat at in their time there. Was craving a burrito bowl for lunch yesterday and decided to get a steak burrito bowl from here. It was my first time getting delivery from here but I was pretty disappointed. Even though the person I spoke to repeated everything back to me on the phone, they gave me chicken instead of steak and no beans & cheese instead of making it with beans and cheese. They also forgot the chips that I ordered with it, too. Giving them an extra star because they went above and beyond by going to pick it up at the restaurant and getting it back over to me even though I told them not to worry about it by that point. Of the 112 reviews I've written before this one, I have only ever given out 5 1-star reviews. Really, I'm not that picky nor am I a difficult customer- 73% of my reviews are 4s or 5s. Tax in Berkeley is 9.25%, so where did the rest come from? Guacamole and sour cream that I didn't ask for? I said a large burrito, not a super burrito. Oh and it gets better. A couple of the guys behind the counter were hamming it up with these drunk obnoxious fratstars. Their order numbers are called, they grab their food, business as usual no problem. Whatever. When it comes to my turn and the guy calls my number, he insists on checking my receipt even though I knew what my number and order were (453, carne asada burrito). To make things worse, as he insists on checking my receipt, he's sliding my order back and forth on the counter like he's dangling a fishing lure or something, and I can't just reach out and grab it because the restaurant is packed and hard to move around in. What did I do to you? So not only am I being charged for options on my burrito that I didn't ask for, but I'm getting grilled by the guy for my receipt (when nobody else was) and literally having my food dangled in front of me? "Receipt? Where is your receipt?" It's in my wallet but you didn't ask anyone else for theirs. It's cold, late, and I'm tired. I know my order and have my order number memorized. A late night staple for Berkeley students living near Units 1& 2, La Burrita was my preferred stop for food with friends when looking for a quick bite. The food is pretty solid, though I usually only opt for their nachos. If it isn't the nachos, I'll order their street style tacos for a cheap snack that doesn't break the bank. This was my go to place for before all my exams. I still do love coming here. The service is average. My first time here, they saw me staring at the drinks, so they just poured me one on the house. I always go for the veggie burrito. I don't like how when you order that, they ask if you want sour cream and guacamole. I'm always tempted to say yes, but if you do, it's actually a different menu item (I think special veggie burrito). The burritos are pretty good with lots of filling. The flavor is also just right, although a little salty. I also love how all orders come with chips and salsa (which you get on your own) as they have good chips to go with good salsa. This place never ceases to amaze me. It's been here since before I was in college and the fact that they're still going strong is a indication of how good this place is and how they constantly strive to provide you with a delicious burrito at all hours (that they're open). They no longer have an option on the menu that says 'Super Burrito' anymore but they still have it! It's now just on the 'Special Burrito' section. If you want your value, you'll know to get that super sized burrito. Lengua is always my go to, but all their other options are good as well. Pro Tip: Get it 'To Go' and they'll give you a bag full of chips, get it for here, and you'll get only a few pieces and not enough to share. This is definitely a spot that I didn't appreciate as much as a student because it was next door, but I definitely come back here more often than I want to admit after I graduated. After dance practice, I was very hungry so I decided to take advantage of the 20% offer from Snackpass to get the California burrito, which contains lettuce, carne asada, cheese, enchilada sauce, French fries, and avocado. The order did take a while because there was a long line, presumably other dance people that just finished their dance practice, but since I ordered in the app, I can just go to the front and pick up my order in 10 minutes. The burrito is wrapped well, with ingredients distributed evenly. The meat is quite tender but there are a few stray pieces that are very tough to chew. The French fries are a little soggy but still flavorful. The chips that came with the burrito are mediocre at best, as they were doused with oil and did not carry much flavor. The other ingredients are mostly fresh and pair well with the carne asada and French fries. Overall, this is a decent late night spot to go to but there are much better burrito places around if you are willing to venture farther than the Berkeley campus. read more

My goto item on the item is usually the California Burrito, just because that is so filling. As you may know, the special thing about California burritos is that instead of rice, it is filled with fries. I have had some California burritos in the past where the burrito as a whole got too dry because the fries were overly fried and there wasn't enough guac/sour cream to help ease the crispness of the fries; however, this was not the case with La Burrita's California burritos. Every time that I have come to La Burrita (I came here pretty often at some point during college, and before using Yelp), I have had no complaints regarding their California burritos; they are filled with sufficient guacamole and sour cream, so that you never really get a bite of the burrito that makes you feel like you need to water to swallow. Additionally their burritos are a nice size, so I always leave no longer feeling hungry. One sidenote is that while there is a northside la burrita, I've always thought that the southside one, while tasting a bit greasier and slightly unhealthier, is the one that wins out on taste. read more

My bf and I definitely got terrible food poisoning from this place - we threw up all day after eating here the other night. I think everyone giving it good ratings are just drunk college students who don't know any better about what good Mexican food is. All my life, reared and working in Berkeley, I've only recently found La Burrita. Perhaps since they are near Top Dog, I've been lured away by a "Top and Hot link. " No longer. While ordering, English is not a strong point for the staff or perhaps a "senior hearing" moment on my behalf, but never-the-less, a darnn good burrito and chips for $6! If you party at all frequently in Berkeley, you're bound to end up here once or twice late at night. Right across from Asian Ghetto and close to campus, can't complain about the location. A bit of a trek from Frat Row but if you got the munchies, it's worth the walk. Menu options are standard here: burritos, tacos, wet, etc. They give you free chips too! In all honestly, it's hard to give this place an objective rating since I rarely went here sober, but the greasy cheese and beans and salsa and meat always tasted like heaven when I dined here. This is definitely a one-way ticket to Freshman 15. I still love the food though! It's good comfort/hangover food at a cheap price and it's such a convenient location. I always got the wet burrito and it was so good! I felt guilty cause it was really fattening but it tasted so good with all the meat and sauces put together. I'm usually not a fan of beans but I couldn't even taste it whenever I ate the wet burrito. The portions are really generous, so I usually (emphasis on the usually) couldn't finish it in one sitting. On 7-01-14: What happened to this spot. I came in here last night at about 11pm and ordered a #3 (La Burrita Especial). When I got home the entire burrito was soggy and covered in grease. The tortilla was swimming in this greasy film, it was disgusting. There can be no excuses for serving up a burrito like this. It had been awhile since I stopped in to this spot. It is the first place I think about when I have a hankering for a late night burrito. Even the chips that came inside the bag with my burrito were hard and stale like. Its unrelenting flavor and mammoth portions make it quite possibly one of the best-bang-for-your-buck non-fast-food restaurants in Berkeley. The burritos are delicious, but leave the customer wanting more. A typical burrito consists of the usual ingredients, beans, rice, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, meat, and wrapped in a tortilla. But that's it, there's nothing more, nothing to give this restaurant its on distinct taste. It's just a burrito. There's no secret sauce, no mystifying salsa or surprise flavors. It's the basic ingredients wrapped into a tortilla. Now this actually may not be a bad thing. Let's think about this for a second. Usually, these secret sauces or salsas that restaurants use to entice customers are often incredibly unhealthy, and are loaded with lots of sodium and other unhealthy preservatives. So, because we know that, we can say with certainty we are not getting any of this in our burritos, and it is therefore not as unhealthy as a burrito with a gimmick flavor that other restaurants may use to attract customers. And some people just dislike having a special sauce on their burritos that give it a unique taste. Some just want a burrito with the bare essentials and they give it to you. And if you do want some sauce on your burrito, walk a few feet over to their free salsa bar, grab all the salsas, see which one you like, (or if you like more than one), dump it on your burrito and you're good to go. It also comes in two different sizes, depending on how hungry you are. Both are very affordable. Depending on the type of burrito, the small is usually ~$4.90, and the large is $~5.90. Both under $6, so it's a great deal. There are other items on the menu such as a taco/enchilada plate, but I'm not particularly a fan of them. I ordered a vegetarian taco/enchilada plate, and there was just far too much rice in everything. it overpowered all the other ingredients. The taco especially, 80% of it was rice and 10% beans. The enchilada tasted very generic; just a tortilla with a bunch of cheese stuffed in it and on it. The plate also came with guacamole, sourcream, pico de gallo, and more rice on the side. I'm vegetarian so I have consistently bought the Veggie Special, and it's totally amazing every time, whether it was after a disappointing final, or after drunk shenanigans on southside. I carry my La burrita stamp card with me everywhere, right alongside my credit card and ID card - it is an essential in my wallet. So to sum up. La burrita is amazing. This review should probably be taken with a grain (or few) of salt - I've been revisiting a lot of old college haunts and destroying a lot of precious memories as a result, so the taste of La Burrita may have just been a welcome reprieve. Or perhaps the pouring rain just made a wet steaming burrito that much tastier, much in the same way that being piss-drunk does. It's certainly not better or equal to many of the other Latin American 4-star restaurants that I've been too, but La Burrita does hit a certain sweet spot. Being winter break, my old roomy and I were the only ones in the whole joint, so for once, we opted to sit in and eat. I, again, defaulted to one of my old usuals, a large wet chicken burrito. Five minutes after ordering, I was digging in to about a pound of food covered generously in guac, sour cream, and all of the salsas that they had to offer. The chips that come with the meal were still as tasty and crispy as I recalled, and the flavors of the salsas and the burrito mingled well. Sure, the chicken could have been done a little bit better, but in some ways I'd say that La Burrita is tastier than Chipotle - just all comes down to the mood you're in. Sadly (but not unexpectedly), prices have gone up here as well. My order came out to $7.12 after tax, up from the $5-6 it was when I was still a student.
