I tend to distrust posh sushi joints. I like them austere, all about the food. Koyjin is an exception. The chefs choice sushi's (withe truffles and caviar) are well worth it. The off menu choices (a sort of pomfret and a willow fish) are worth the off-roading.the waiter did well guiding us through the maze of menu items. Cocktails were short of notable but if I wasn't driving I'd have gone sake flight in any

Good service and some amazing sushi at this expensive and well-decor'ed restaurant in Georgetown.

The perfect girls night or date night spot! I've been twice and the vibe of this place is amazing! It's dimly lit, such beautiful decor and on Saturday a DJ comes late night. Service is top notch and they break down the menu perfectly. The waiter was amazing and let us try some wines and sake before we ordered and gave the best recommendations on what to get. Both times I've loved the hand rolls and the sushi rolls were great! Prices can be a bit steep here but I think it's worth it for a special occasion or treat yourself kind to night. Would recommend!

Save this place for a quiet dinner for two... not a celebration. We had a party of 10 for a birthday with a 7:30 reservation. Before we were even seated, staff tried to seat me to the wrong table with a group I did not know. They apologized and offered me a drink at the bar (but turns out it wasn't on the house). The birthday guest had arranged custom menus and noted the group's food allergies with the restaurant weeks ahead of time. Our waiter had no idea any of that existed. After 20 minutes waiting for drinks and another stretch sorting out the menu situation, we were starving by the time food started arriving: vegans first at 9:10, the rest of us at 9:30. Two hours after sitting down. We left at 11 PM and honestly I was still hungry, the five course prix fixe menu was not very filling. The food was very good, as was the quality, and the presentation was lovely. But the service was a mess from start to finish... no coordination, no follow-through, very little accountability. I've had much better experiences here with smaller groups. For a large party or a special occasion, look elsewhere.

The food and ambience was fantastic! Jay provided wonderful service. I really enjoyed everything we ordered and I'll definitely be back at Kyojin!

I went to this place on a Saturday for a night out with friends. It was a fun place to get dressed up. The vibe was great. It's a place with brick walls everywhere and a great vibe. The moment we entered, we felt welcome and the waiter provided some wonderful suggestions for us. We shared a lot of different sushi and each had our favorite. We shared the salmon lovers roll, crunchy salsa roll, garlic butter scallops, edamame and tuna appetizer. My favorite is definitely the garlic butter scallops - so unique and good, If you love sushi, definitely come here for some great food and a wonderful dinner out.

went here for happy hour and had the best time. drinks were delicious, food was delicious, service was great. such a cool vibe in there as well. only negative was that the bathroom smelled pretty bad which was surprising for how fancy the restaurant felt.

Had the best service by Ben (I believe that's his name with the blonde hair) who was so adorable and lovely. Sushi was so delicious here and I loved the oysters here too! Kind of hard to find but it was such a great experience. Loved how every dish came with a flower, such a nice touch. Would definitely come back when I'm in town again.

This is probably the most phenomenal sushi experience that I've ever had. It'll likely be hard to top this place realistically. I've been back since I initially began this review and, yes, it's still top tier. Enjoy the photos and know that flavor and experience are on another level. There's also some pretty great bartenders here. Enjoy.

5 stars for everything. Quality, ambiance, service, presentation and overall experience and execution. I'll lead by saying it was on the pricier end for the chefs pics and signature dishes but the rolls and smaller dishes are reasonably priced. The monster quad (and I do hope I recall that as the name of the bowl pictured correctly) and the creamy scallop roll were absolutely delicious and prob my faves. It's hard to pick a favorite in general as nothing fell short of expectations and I would 100% return because the options seem endless. Drinks were also well made and service was quick and knowledgeable about any questions on the large menu!

I have been a huge fan of the Yume restaurant for years now. Kyojin is all about great vibes, decor and ambience. There is a DJ playing on the weekends and the food here is next level. I stopped by recently with some family. We ordered everything from the chirashi bowl, the Monster quad, toro tartare, lemon shooters, and the a5 Wagyu bowl. Some of our favorite rolls include the a5 Wagyu, scallop sunlight, and the Yume roll. All of the fish was fresh and delicious. Service here is top notch. We made reservations way in advance. Our server and the bartenders were attentive. Dining here comes at a premium cost. If you want a more private quiet dining spot this may not be it. I'll definitely be back to try their seasonal specials and hopefully catch one of their tuna events.

Easily the best upscale sushi I've had in the states. It was fresh and the flavors were layered. Kyojin knows how to do FANCY. 5 stars because sushi was all a hit. The pasta dish was not. Service was a little stiff but the quality of the food made up for it. The location is right in the heart of all things popular--Georgetown. It's a little hard to find the entrance because it's tucked away in an alley, but the inside of the restaurant feels like stepping into a zen oasis.

What you are paying for is for the vibes and spot being in Georgetown. Kyojin has a cool atmosphere and a solid concept, but the food didn't fully live up to expectations for me. Everything was decent, yet nothing really stood out, especially compared to other sushi spots. I normally really love sushi but I feel like some of the food choices didn't make sense or wasn't fully fleshed. It's an okay option if you're nearby, but not somewhere I'd specifically seek out for an exceptional meal, especially for the price. The staff is friendly and tried their best to make recommendations. Best Bite: - scallop roll - the winner ( a single piece of sushi that comes with three slices of bluefin tuna. Added uni)

The staff is amazing, attentive, friendly and efficient! Thank you Kay, for taking such good care of us! We started off with the Kara-age Lollipop chicken, which was finger lickin' delicious. For our entrees we shared the 6 Set Umai Temaki and Sashimi Nori. Super fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. I got a kick out of the canned sake and maybe over indulged...but so much fun! We felt the value was very good, 27 pieces of generously portioned and fresh sashimi for under $60! We'll make this a regular stop when in DC. Cheers!

I'm leaving my original review below because it accurately reflects how much we have enjoyed this restaurant. The food is excellent, and many of the servers have been wonderful. We became genuine regulars, eating here roughly once a week. But we have also overlooked some increasingly difficult behavior from the manager. On numerous visits, we have watched her berate and yell at members of her staff in front of customers. It is deeply uncomfortable to witness. Tonight, that same attitude was directed toward us. My fiancée and I do not eat shellfish for religious and allergy-related reasons. For dozens of visits, Umai Nori has accommodated this when we order its hand-roll sets by substituting the shellfish items. Tonight, the manager abruptly refused. When we explained to our server that we had an allergy, that this exact accommodation had been made for us probably 30-40 times, and asked if the manager could come speak with us, she refused even to come to our table. When I ultimately spoke with her at the hostess stand, I explained that we were extremely regular customers and that if the restaurant was no longer willing to make this accommodation, we unfortunately wouldn't be able to continue coming. Her response, in substance, was that she did not care how often we had eaten there and did not care if she lost our business. Restaurants are entitled to have whatever substitution policies they want. What is unacceptable is treating longtime customers with contempt for politely asking why an accommodation they have received dozens of times is suddenly unavailable--particularly when an allergy is involved. There have been other strange inconsistencies we've overlooked--the house sake, for example, seems to arrive in wildly different quantities despite ordering the same size--but none of that would have stopped us from returning. Being treated this way did. It's genuinely disappointing. We love the food and would have happily continued coming every week. But after repeatedly watching this manager treat her own staff disrespectfully and finally experiencing the same treatment ourselves, we're taking her at her word that she doesn't care about keeping our business. --- ORIGINAL REVIEW: Outstanding neighborhood sushi spot. Consistently great, fresh food and service. Handrolls and cut rolls that really pop and are inventive.

For anyone seeking actual good sushi, I'd recommend looking elsewhere in Georgetown. The service was polite and the location was great, but that just can't make up for the food. The fish lacked the freshness and quality I'd expect even at a casual spot. The rice was bland and the rolls felt more like basic grocery-store sushi than something made with care. Portions were OK for the price, but the ambience was spartan and the overall experience fell short. I don't like being negative or writing bad reviews but Khin's truly is average at best. It might be okay for a college student looking for something quick and cheap, but it is not a legitimate sushi restaurant in the traditional sense.

If you love old & new R&B this is the place to be on Thursday & Sunday nights. My only complaint is that the music is so loud it's hard to have a conversation or even place your order. We had to ask our waitress multiple times for limes, soy sauce and a to go box. I don't blame her for being overwhelmed since the music was so loud but there is room for improvement! Vegetable Gyoza: 7/10 pan fried instead of boiled which I prefer! Kind of bland. Would be better with a different sauce or added protein. Calamari: 7/10 good but it did not stand out. However, dinner caused me some issues: I got glutened. My partner and I went for my birthday dinner. But I got glutened. Even though we didn't order anything asterisked and I let the server know that I have celiac. My partner has been trying to reach the manager to find out what had gluten in it. But even with multiple calls, he can't reach them. (Not a good sign.) We wanted to be able to say in the review which dish had hidden gluten, but since we can't have a conversation with anyone there, all I can say is stay away. If you do try it- and I understand why you'd want to- avoid the vegan bulgogi. I just have a sneaking suspicion that's what did me in. But the menu said it was gluten free, so--?? Also, go sometime when they aren't too busy. We were there on a Saturday night and I think they might have only had two servers on (with multiple table support staff). There was at least one large party, plus the regular tables, and two servers were not enough. It was very difficult to flag someone down and double check our meals or ask our server anything after they started to get busy.
