Wow, wow, wow is the only appropriate way to start off this review. Kyojin is Georgetown's swanky new hidden gem that not only provides high quality food but impeccable service as well. While the location is rather small, it is super intimate and dimly lit perfect for date night or a treat yourself kind of night out. Upon walking in I was immediately greeted by a friendly host that escorted me to one of the most beautiful bars I've seen at a restaurant. I then was greeted by two bartenders (I hate that I forgot their names) but they were a pleasure all evening. I started with a Ketel One lemon drop martini which was made to perfection. I also tried the Kyojin House Made Gyoza, Tiger Roll and Yume Roll. I thoroughly enjoyed everything but again how can anyone go wrong with rolls that include lump crab or tuna. Incredible! This hidden spot in Cady's Alley has such a cool vibe and we opted to sit at the sushi bar where the attention to detail was impeccable! We had oysters from British Columbia that were meaty and delicious ...the spicy tuna and soft shell crab rolls were our favorites...the volcano roll was third! It was hard to rank as everything was so fresh and the presentation was beautiful! Quynh was wonderful as she listened to our preferences and made recommendations based on those ...the garlic butter miso scallops were amazing! The line chef in front us had heard our conversations about sashimi and gave us a seared fish sashimi to enjoy! This place is the real deal. Tucked away in one of the mysterious Georgetown alleys is this hidden gem right next to a German restaurant. You're not going to have a good time finding parking but do you ever when hanging out on M st? Nah. As soon as you walk in you're met with a cool vibe with dimmed lighting and a view of the sushi chefs at work. They nailed the ambience of this place it's perfect for date night or meeting a group of friends. I wouldn't call this a casual sushi spot since everyone is at least a little dressed up. The place is quite spacious with 2 bars and plenty of table seating. The food is on the pricier side but you are eating high scaled sushi. Chef Saran Kannasute can really make a dish and thats an understatement. My favorite was the spicy tuna sandwich. The staff is fantastic and very welcoming. The waitresses do a great job walking you through the menu. And everyone thanks you when you leave. Owner of Yume opened up a new restaurant so I was excited and expecting it to have some differences since it was not just another Yume branch since they went with a whole new name and articles saying they had more freedom to experiment with a whole kitchen but menu ended up being all the exact same. The interior is prettier but our waiter was a bit awkward and didn't explain the sushi well at all when it came out. The pacing of the meal was bad with all the food coming out at one time basically. Better to just go to Yume in my opinion unless there are more changes and better standards in service. The quality as expected had some items exactly the same, some better and some worse as our past visits to Yume. read more

We found this place when looking for restaurants in Georgetown. The entrance is on the lower level. You'll walk down the stairs and turn right. When you walk in, it gives off an upscale, classy restaurant. We were seated right away since we had no reservations. We ordered A5 wagyu bowl, uni pasta, spicy toro with uni roll, and A5 wagyu roll. Just a note if you order uni pasta, make sure you get a roll or something. The uni pasta is very small and you won't get full. Also, people need to post more pictures. I usually skip over all the reviews with no pictures because pictures or it didn't happen. Everything was excellent in taste and presentations were very elegant. The A5 wagyu bowl has a pretty good portion for the price. Make sure you use the sauce provided with the rolls, it really heightens the taste. Service was superb and attentive. Kyojin's garlic butter miso scallops hit a pleasure spot that I did not even know existed. To quote the incomparable Hilary Duff: "Yesterday my life was duller Now everything's technicolor Hey now, hey now This is what dreams are made of" This dish was so good, the table next to us got it for their entree and dessert! Truly, truly one of the best things on the menu. Other standout items were the toro and jalapeno and the yellowtail carpaccio with truffle, wasabi cream, and caviar. Each dish was so rich and intensely flavored. Truly something to savor. Cocktails were cheeky, inventive and fun. We got wine but we're taking note of the Japanese whiskey flight for later. We love Kyojin's sister restaurant Yume, and was excited to check out this Georgetown outpost which is larger and vibier than the former. Delicious sushi. I was blown away by the Lobster roll.. never seen so much lobster in a roll and it tasted fresh. The A5 wagyu roll was good, may not order again but it did have a lot of fresh crabmeat. The steak side not add much to the roll, honestly. My gyoza starter was good, but i wish there were more than 3 pieces. Drinks were decent, I tried the Im in Love with the Coco(nut) whixh had lychee liqueur, yuzu, coconut water.. it was light but refreshing. The espresso martini wasnt bad, but wasnt my favorite either, id give it a 7.5/10. I would like to try other cocktails because I will certainly be back for the lobster roll and other offerings. Absolutely delicious. I tried a few sushi rolls, the salmon (Carpaccio style 6pc), lavender smoked salmon topped with Foie Gras 4pc, and some other stuff I can't remember, but this was one of the best meals I ever had. Pricey, but I had a bad day that was made much better by this food. read more

This place is pretty good. I was impressed. We came last min on a Saturday night without reservations and they were able to seat us within 30 minutes which was really great. It's not only a good place to dine but a nice bar too. There is good music and good drinks. The bar area can get pretty crowded so be aware you might have to wait or be shoulder to shoulder. A lot of nicely dressed people, so if you go, it's best to dress nice. Not sure if there is a dress code. They have one drink that is SO GOOD. I think it is called something "pandan". It was delicious and extremely creative, because like i have never seen a drink with pandan. We sat down and the owner comped some apps for us, which was a nice surprise(thank you). The bao buns, gyoza, and sushi were all great and had wonderful flavor. I LOVED the veggie roll. It is hard to find a good one. I love how they offer customized sushi which is great for someone picky like me. Monk fish tower- 5/5 First time trying monk fish liver, it was SO creamy and delish. Sushi dinner- 5/5 The nigiri was so fresh, and the quality of the fish was incredible! Sheek and vibey new sushi spot in Georgetown. The menu is pretty big and has options outside of the typical sushi rolls, lots of sashimi and nigiri options and some other entree dishes as well. The food was rather divine, the sushi, shrimp tempura, desserts, etc. For the shrimp tempura, it's not super battered and heavy like most restaurants, which made it perfect for an appetizer. My favorite rolls is the dream roll and the presentation and taste go beyond any other sushi. The interior was also superb with a dim lighting setting (a little dark to read the menu, but they have a table light) and the noise level was rather tame. We came for the blue fin tuna cutting event and had an excellent time! The event started with a viewing of the chefs cutting and breaking down the huge bluefin tuna which was so cool to see. After the initial viewing, the omakase started in which they served the bluefin tuna. All of the dishes were spectacular! Standouts were the windmill set (spicy tuna with uni and caviar) and the bone marrow drop (tuna bone marrow with a yuzu sauce - very unique). The only thing I will say is that the rollout of the dishes was very slow, there was a lot of down time in between each course. This was to be expected though since they were breaking down the fish in real time and the emcee warned us about this at the start of the meal. However different sections were served at varying speeds. For an additional cost you could pay more to get "vip" seating which is essentially right in front of the bluefin tuna cutting, however I was glad I did not opt for this as you could get a great view of the cutting at the beginning. read more

We got the A5 wagyu, Lobster Roll, and Green River roll. A5 was well balanced with savory flavor of wagyu and freshness of the crab. Lobster roll was similar well balanced with the richness of the lobster and salty savory flavors of caviar. Rolls were all firm and held together. The richness of the broth combined with just the right amount of spice was perfect. I ordered the lobster volcano roll which was a true masterpiece of culinary craftsmanship. TLDR: The newest option from the creators of Yume Sushi, Kyojin takes Yume and elevates it to a whole new level. =========== I've been eyeing Kyojin for awhile (Ever since it recently opened) as I am a huge fan of Yume sushi, their Arlington based sushi restaurant. Situated in Cady's alley, the vibes of Kyojin is certainly more elevated and upscale than Yume, but also ups the ante in terms of flavor and delivery. On this date night for two, we ordered two sushi dinners (each with ten pieces of sushi) with a roll to share. You can definitely taste the freshness of each piece, and they give you a nice assortment of fatty and non-fatty sushi that there is sure to be at least a few pieces for everyone's taste palate. The rolls themselves are decked out in some very fancy garnishes/sauces, and come as either 4 or 6 pieces. Sushi is never something I go to thinking that I will be leaving stuffed, and Kyojin is certainly not the exception. At its price point, this is an experience in which you tell that some of the money is going more towards the ambience and the atmosphere than the food on the plate, and that is totally okay with me. Add in the (probably) exorbitant cost of this location, and Kyojin certainly gives you a bang for your buck. Had a delightful new discovery in Georgetown. Six of us had an early dinner on Friday, 5:30 pm. It's a popular spot so if you have a bigger party for the weekend call for reservation early. The uni, scallops, toro, salmon were fresh and sliced at the right thickness. The chefs also have very creative presentations of the fish, great variety of Japanese beers, sake and cocktails. Make sure to leave room for dessert especially their lemon cake. The interior of the restaurant was designed and laid out comfortably. Sound level was great for private convo. Wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive. It's located in the newly redeveloped part of Georgetown called Candy Alley. There are lots of places to walk around before and after a meal. Parking can be tricky. So do plan ahead and leave lots of time to find parking. read more

We are normally not fans of scallops, but we enjoyed them more than the salmon belly. Both were delicious though. - The Winner - AMAZING! My favorite so far. The pink ginger sauce drizzled on the side of the plate was a heavenly combination with the rich savory meats/toppings. - Toro tower - good, but The Winner was definitely better.
