We came here on a Sunday for an early dinner and were seated at a two-person table. The table was very small, and the chairs were the metal type, which weren't very comfortable. We ordered the Chirashi Bowl, Sushi Moriawase, and Ika Karaage. We always try the Chirashi Bowl whenever we visit a Japanese restaurant because it's one of our favorite ways to compare the sushi quality and value. The owner was very nice and even upgraded some of the fish for us, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, this Chirashi Bowl wasn't one of our favorites. The sushi was fresh and offered good value for the price. The Ika Karaage, however, was a bit too greasy for us. We tried it, and now we can cross it off our list.

great service all around! This place is new and the people who worked here were super friendly and attentive. Immediate seating! They have some great happy hour deals. Was looking for a sushi place around Desert Ridge, and Kumo was only about ten minutes away. Right of the 101, in a small strip mall, with plenty of parking. Little annoying you have to don't a U turn in a really busy spot to get to it, but it's worth it ! It's a small little place, with all the tables on one side and the sushi bar on the other. Our server was so nice and friendly. We ordered 5 rolls to start with, the sushi chef brought out the last one and chatted with us for a little. We wanted to order more, so our amazing server recommended a roll based off our other selections and was also so accommodating if we wanted to change something in one of the roll. The one the server recommended ended up being my favorite! All the rolls were great size, tasted fresh. I'm also not a big sauce person on sushi, but I quite liked some of the sauces that were paired with the sushi rolls. Next time, we will need to order some sashimi or nigri. Overall, this is such a sweet, quaint spot. You feel like you're in a family owned place that cares about everyone who comes in. Loved multiple things we ordered and we will back because of the food but also big part because of the amazing service.

I waited until I had dined twice at Kumo Sushi before writing this review. Both visits were weekday happy hour meals, with some different menu items each time. We were greeted promptly and seated immediately in the nearly empty restaurant, and our server was outgoing and friendly. On my first visit, we ordered a variety of items from both the happy hour and the regular menu. I will note that the happy hour menu is very affordable. But when you order from the regular menu you will pay more for items normally priced less at other Japanese restaurants. For example we received tiny portions of squid salad $7.50 and cucumber salad $6.50, and had the garlic edamame $8. These same items are often discounted at happy hour, but not here. We ordered the Alaskan roll, a California roll and a shrimp roll. I like their California roll filling, and the shrimp roll was small and tight but tasty. The Alaskan roll had a disgusting white sauce all over it under the salmon, so I will remember to order it with no sauce next time. The squid salad seemed like a tiny portion piled on a lot of spring mix lettuce, and the vegetables were not bright green indicating the squid salad was not at its freshest. The cucumber salad was likewise tasty but small, cucumbers are well under a dollar each but this salad was not value priced. We also ordered the garlic edamame, very tasty and although the portion was better it was not on happy hour either. On my first visit I noticed that the rolls were cut in very large pieces, and this made them difficult to eat. On my second visit we had happy hour tuna roll, shrimp roll and California roll all served together on a large round plate. We had the rolls cut smaller to make them easier to eat this time. Draft Kirin beer was $3 and small hot sake were $2.50, a great value. However, my first hot sake was cold, and I pointed this out to the server who turned up the heat, and my second hot sake was at least lukewarm. I really don't believe that I should have been charged for the first cold hot sake. It left a bad feeling when unaddressed at the end even though I mentioned it to the replacement server. At some point during the my meal, we saw our server had left the building and was walking towards Costco. There was no hand off to a new server, a gentleman who did not care about a problem we had discussed with the prior server which was left unresolved. He asked if I had mentioned it to my prior server which I had. Nothing had been done about it. He presented the bill without comment, and never came back expecting us to pay by QR code even though our concerns were unaddressed. I even sat there for a while without paying, hoping he would at least make eye contact and I could ask. That did not occur, although he served a nearby table, he seemed not to care about us at all. Although many reviews mention meeting the owner or the business manager, no one came to check on us at any point during my two visits besides our server. I did see a woman tending the plants in the lobby, they are lovely. What I do see is a small business struggling with basic customer service skills, while delivering reasonable quality, strip mall sushi. I think you can do better, and I wish you success.

So disappointed since I read many reviews raving about this place. I ordered door dash and got the lunch nigiri combo with spicy tuna roll. Pros 1. Good variety of food to choose from on the menu 2. Nice presentation for door dash order Cons 1. The sushi rice was very overcooked (mushy/gummy). It's supposed to be sticky, but the rice yesterday was beyond sticky...a ball of mushy flavorless rice 2. Pieces were too big. I appreciate not skimping on the fish, but the nigiri pieces and roll pieces were not able to be enjoyed in one bite. Normally, nigiri doesn't need to be eaten with having to bite it in half 3. Fish freshness wasn't bad but it also wasn't super fresh like I have has from some other places. There is a place nearby (can't name names) that has very fresh fish 4. Prices are quite high compared to equal or better sushi places in the area

Do not eat here unless you want to be disappointed or you don't have taste buds. Sorry to say. I had high hopes from the reviews but this was TERRIBLE! We ordered : Seaweed said 0/10 tasted like nothing Chicken wings 0/10 you can tell they were cooked before and reheated Cucumber salad 0/10 tasteless Salmon Kama 0/10 we had to send it back and take it off the bill. It's supposed to me colar but it was a small piece of colar and a salmon fillet that was raw in the middle and tasted fishy Also ordered the sushi moriawase . The octopus we literally could not chew it. You can tell that the egg was old. The rest of the sushi just wasn't good. The California roll had old avocado in it. Everything was disgusting. Honestly, I was upset having to pay for this. The inside is small and several tables were not cleared off even though it was not busy when we went. The A/c was not on so it was warm in there . The server was nice and that was the only plus for this place.

Based on great reviews we decided to try Kumo. We are so glad we did - wonderful neighborhood spot. Great variety of hot food and sushi. We ordered yellowtail roll & Plate for 2 - it includes gyoza, mixed tempura, Cali roll, beef & chicken teriyaki, bbq beed ribs. All of it comes with Miso soup and rice. All of it was tasty and all the meat was very tender Jerry, the owner came over to introduce himself & make sure we were enjoying our meal. Service was excellent, very affordable too! We'll definitely be regulars here!

We ordered the Samurai lunch tray and the Lava Roll. Everything came out fresh and hot, and the teriyaki was surprisingly tender -- not dry like many other places. The Lava Roll is a fried roll, and it was incredibly crispy. I literally said "wow" after the first bite. Definitely a 5-star experience. Highly recommend! read more

Well.... Jerry and Company surprised me yet again! I get stuck on lobster and angry lotus extra spicy rolls and don't venture .....but after last night I'm letting Jerry enlighten me! The calamari is by far the best battered and fried I've had anywhere in the states. This is the main body of squid and barely battered then fried just exactly to juicy meaty perfection! You actually taste the meaty body and while it comes with a well made spicy truffle style sauce, just try only lemon. I have only had this similar taste and texture and barely there batter on the island of Sardinia and in the fishing village of Grado in Italy. The Calamari is unbelievably fresh. Jerry has outdone himself with this one.....I can't get that taste out of my head! Plain and simple perfection read more

Our first time trying Kumo Sushi (been to the taco place in this location prior). They kept the decor and layout pretty simple. Service was warm and welcoming. Food took a bit of time to come out but they were all fresh and piping hot. We had tempura udon soup, beef yakisoba, and sushi moriawase (as part of their daily lunch special); each came with a salad or miso soup. Tempura was fresh out of the fryer. Beef yakisoba included a healthy mix of green and purple cabbage - it would have been even better if the sauce had another dimension i.e. some spicy or a kick to it. Sushi was okay, with sushi rice on the dry side and fish being average. Overall we enjoyed our experience and would come back giving this place another try! read more

I hate to be the first person to give this place a bad review - I tried to find a silver lining to what we received but I just can't. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and what I was served was the most bland (water like) broth with plain noodles. It legitimately tasted like they placed noodles into water and added salt to the "broth." We also got a chicken ramen which was more flavored but still NOT good. The chicken was absolutely inedible. We added an egg to each ramen and typically, it's a soft boiled marinaded egg, but this place adds a regular hard boiled egg. I'm sure the sushi is better but do NOT get ramen here like I foolishly did. read more

Glad to have you in the neighborhood! Have ordered take-out before and decided to try dining in. Food from both events was satisfying. Sushi rolls were good in size, fresh and tasty. Courteous and pleasant service. Place is small but nice and clean. We will definitely make this our drop in spot when cravings for ramen, sashimi, rolls or chicken karaage hits us. This place reminds me of California level Japanese food. I hope they keep being this great! We came around 5:30 on Friday and just before their happy hour ends. Sushi was fresh and delicious. Tempura was perfect. The tempura California roll was also tasty. Hamachi collar was okay. But everything else we ordered was very good! HH items are all reasonably priced and of good portion. Service was prompt and friendly. The place is small, however. I wish they can expand after great success in this location. read more

First time eating here and it was amazing! Very well priced and good flavor is a great combo for me to return! A very unique item on the menu that I've never seen was the truffle yellowtail roll! Perfect amount of truffle flavor as I love truffle and love yellowtail! Also ordered salmon roll, California roll, and yellowtail carpaccio. All were delicious! Service was great and restaurant was full for a Saturday night. I hope they stay in business for a long time bc it's a good sushi spot in this area with great service and ambiance. Place was clean and hope to spread the word. I almost never leave any reviews but for a business that deserves it, it's worth it! I will be back for their happy hour as well! read more

What an amazing restaurant -- two thumbs up! We ordered the sashimi combo, tempura udon, and several rolls including the Sunshine Roll, Baked Salmon Roll, and Rainbow Roll. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the fish was top-notch and incredibly fresh. The Bluefin Tuna was especially outstanding -- OMG, you have to try it! Always excited to try a new sushi spot - Kumo did not disappoint. Good quality fish, some unique rolls on the menu and appreciate that everything wasn't cream cheese containing . Spicy tuna on rice cake was great and enjoyed salmon asparagus with garlic and yellowtail/truffle. The food was soooo yummy! My partner and I got the Sunshine roll, salmon nigiri, and beef yakisoba. According to my partner, the beef yakisoba was yummy even down to the vegetables! The Sunshine roll features a spicy tuna inside with a thick slab of salmon on the outside. It was decorated with additional avocado and spicy mayo, which was perfect. For the salmon nigiri, I got four pieces in total, all of which were thick marbled SLABS of fish. They were soft and melted in your mouth, honestly everything I want in a good piece of nigiri. And finally, I want to note that the customer service is awesome! What I assume to be the owner walks around and asks every customer how their dishes taste. He was very friendly and easy to talk to too, which I believe really adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. read more

The food is bangin! We ordered the yellow tail collar and it was legit the freshest. The chef was soooo kind in explaining how he prepped it. No picture because I devoured it. Got lunch with my Dad today at Kumo and it was a 10/10 experience! As someone who never writes reviews I really felt the need to write one for this place! Our server recommended the toro sashimi, and as a sushi lover, this was some of the best sashimi I have tried. I also thought the staff was very kind :) Overall great experience and would recommend!! Sushi rolls were meh. No flavor. Spicy tuna roll was bland and had ground up tuna mush mixed with something else. Edamame was not bad, but was fried and a little greasy. The place was not very clean. The window shades were splattered with food stuff. There was clutter/crumbs/plant debris all over the counter. Will never go back. There was only 1 other table of 2 for lunch, if that tells you anything. read more

What a treasure to happen upon! We had lunch at Kumo today and everything about it was complete perfection. From the perfectly brewed tea, to the crispy Pork Katsu , the succulent vegetable tempura and the generous and fresh California Roll. To top it off they offer a Ginger Dressing for the salad that is the pièce de résistance. So bright and zippy with nice bits of fresh ginger. The portions are generous and satisfying. This is our new neighborhood favorite. We are planning our next trip for Happy Hour! read more

Didn't even get a chance to take a picture of the food because we devoured everything. We got the Shishito peppers, spicy edamame, chicken and beef teriyaki combination, chirashi, and some beverages. Finished it off with the deep fried ice cream. Absolutely stuffed and everything we ate was fresh and delicious. And all presented with friendly service and smiling faces. Jeff and his wife have something great on their hands. We'll be back. read more

First time there today! They were training a gal who I think will be really good for the business, very efficient. I was able to have a Miso Soup, a salad with ginger dressing and a Shrimp Roll for under $15.00! I would love for them to modify their Lunch Menu to include such a combination! One of the best happy hours I've seen. Feels like 2010 prices. Drinks, apps, specialty rolls all for under $10 and full portions. Staff is super friendly too. Owners are super nice and attentive. Spicy beef ramen is a must try. Highly recommend. read more

This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. We didn't need a reservation since we had a small party, but I would recommend if if you're coming with a party of four or more. We sat at the bar and ordered four dishes from different categories, which was a great way to sample the menu; though honestly I think we probably could have gotten away with just 3 dishes for a party of 2. We tried Yam Mamuang Boran (old-style green mango salad), Boo Pad Pong Garee (crab curry with ginger), Tom Yum Haeng Sen Yai (dry tom yum with wide noodles), and Naem Khao Tot (crispy rice salad with fermented pork sausage). The chicken karaage wings were incredible every bite was the perfect combination of flavor and crispiness. The calamari rings were also very good, cooked perfectly. And the sushi... wow. Every single bite was amazing. The sushi rice was warm and flavorful, and honestly the quality reminded us of the amazing sushi spots we visited in Japan. The customer service was above and beyond. Jerry, the manager, came to our table and was extremely kind and polite, even apologizing for some very minor issues. Truthfully, the food was so good we didn't even care about the issues at all. They've only been open for about two months, and they're already doing an excellent job.
