Nearly everything about this sandwich was perfect. The crunchy bread, the dressing and all the different veggies were excellent! I got the lemongrass pork version where there was no trace of lemongrass and the pork was ....well, just pork. I expected lemongrass pork flavor. Also, I was asked if I wanted it spicy and it was not spicy at all. I saw in reviews that someone else got one with marinated steak so I'll try that the next time or the 3 meat KT special bahn mi. I'm definitely going back for another! Whenever I have a good Banh Mi, I'm reminded that Banh Mi are one of my favorite sandwich types. KT Bakery makes terrific Banh Mi. The vibe of KT Bakery is - trying to get stuff done without being too concerned with how they look doing it. The inside is cramped and both the inside and outside areas are a bit rough around the edges. Most people get takeout, but I ate at one of a few outside tables. The view is an active construction site. Long story short - the atmosphere is not a selling point. The Banh Mi, however, are a tremendous selling point. I ordered the beef. It had a flavorful marinade and/or glaze that balanced sweet, salty and acidic ingredients. I don't know the recipe, but I imagine they used some of the following types of ingredients to achieve that balance: fish sauce, Green Mountain sauce, hoisin, palm sugar, sweet chili sauce, Rice Wine Vinegar, Sambal Oelek, etc. The stars of the Banh Mi Show for me are the crispy, fresh and/or acidic vegetables that the top the beef. KT's included cilantro, green onion, julienned pickled carrots and cucumbers. I may have also noticed some pickled Daikon. The bread was fresh and up to the job of corralling all these ingredients. The combination of fresh bread, flavorful beef and and fresh crunchy veggies is outstanding. I hadn't been to KT for a few years. The inside looked different and they had fewer desserts available for immediate consumption than I remember. They have an order ahead cake aspect of their business that may be worth exploring. They also had a cooler full of soups and other meals ready for takeout, and they have beef pho and a small selection of entrees on the menu as well. This is a super tiny mom and pop bakery. I went round 4:30 and most of the entrees were not available. KT Special Sandwich was good. Mooncake is a tough item to find in Hartford. I tried the coconut mooncake. Chè bà ba is something new I tried. It is the dessert with 3 colors. It was something good to try. I am not a big fan of shaved ice though. First Bahn mi that I've had so far in which the texture of the roll was the right texture, pillowy soft inside and crunchy outside (others have been too dense throughout). Steak was good. Just know that the pork is not the charcoal grilled pork that I have had in many other places. Located across from the Colt Factory and nestled between a large field and an Indian grocery market, don't let it's unassuming exterior fool you about the authentic Vietnamese baked goods and products inside. In addition to some of the best bahn mi (baguette made in house and filled with pork) I have had in CT, KT also bakes cakes, buns, egg tarts, and a plethora of other Asian baked goods in house. They also have Vietnamese drinks such as drip coffee and jelly. Cute little Vietnamese bakery. Freshly baked Steamed pork & shrimp buns chalk full of garlicky filling. Beautiful cakes sliced and ready to go. Got a slice of lemon had a white chocolate drizzle and nice lemon flavor, a slice of berry topped with nice tart raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. And a slice of pistachio also just as delicious. Also, love that they have Che which is an icy Vietnamese treat filled with mung beans grass jelly, kidney beans, coconut milk & red jelly coated water chestnuts sounds weird but its sweet and refreshing on a hot day. They also have Pho, Bahn Mi, Bun and crispy egg rolls. Which I can't wait to go back and try. You don't go to KT Bakery for the ambiance, but you definitely go for the Vietnamese sandwiches called banh mi. They are absolutely amazing! This tiny Vietnamese bakery makes the most delicious pork, chicken, or beef banh mi. They're filled with wonderfully spiced meats complimented by the crunchy goodness of picked vegetables and fresh cilantro. All of this yumminess is cradled in a fresh torpedo roll. They also make pho, and a couple of rice dishes, but as I am so in love with the banh mi, I've never had them! The place is teeny tiny with just two high top tables, but there is some outside seating. Don't judge this by the outside because this unassuming place is a real find. KT Bakery has such delicious bahn mi. Sometimes I think I should order more than one for myself because I know I always want more when I finish it! Each of the bahn mi meat options are delicious depending on what you're in the mood for. The flavor of the sauce brings the sandwich to life. They are always so quick and easy to order from. The last time we were there we also bought their homemade rolls so we could enjoy some of our own sandwiches throughout the week. The pork banh mi was delicious and an amazing deal at $4/per. The bread was crusty and airy, the vegetables were crisp and crunchy, and the meat was tender and tasty. I visited this place for the first time last month because I'd seen an ad up for it at my workplace and was craving Vietnamese sandwiches (banh mi). There was a small lot on one side of the building which I'd missed. I ended up turning into the second driveway, which brought me onto the grassy field behind the place (which was clearly not meant for cars). I had to squeeze my car between the huge potted plants placed there as a barrier between the lot and the field to get myself back onto the asphalt (so embarrassing). After that fiasco, I strolled into the bakery and pretended like nothing had happened. The owner was very chatty and kept telling me how friendly I was. I was disappointed that he'd run out of green tea cake, egg tarts and most of the Asian buns, but it was 4 PM on a Friday... I settled for a hot dog bun, a milk cream bun, a slice of Tiramisu, a slice of cheesecake and a KT Specialty sandwich (with pork, beef and chicken, I think...) The sandwich was amazing. I scarfed that down so quickly that I wished I'd bought two. It was sooo good. I am still dreaming about it (and plan to visit again soon). Both the cheesecake and Tiramisu were solid as well. I'd taken the goods and frozen the cheesecake and the result was almost like ice cream! The owner told me all the cakes were made by him and his wife, in-house! Only open for 4 months, this is the first, stand alone, Vietnamese Bakery in the Hartford area in the last 20 years. Yes, the Vietnamese/Asian markets carry baked goods but I'm excited to finally see one that caters to making traditional cakes and buns. So far so good. I was able to get a Banh mi, banh bao, and cha gio, all for under $12. I got the traditional banh mi with all the fixings: Cha lua, pate, and veggies. The bread is not a traditional baguette, a little more dense, not a bad thing, just more filling. I can't wait to post an updated review for their cakes. Great, authentic banh mi sandwiches! We went on a rainy Saturday and the place was very small with limited seating (it had about 4 chairs) however if it's a nicer day, they do have a cute outdoor patio that people could eat on. My bf and I got the KT special banh mi (classic) and the chicken banh mi. SO DELICIOUS. The bread was perfect and the lady working there told us it's made fresh every morning. Good fillings as well. I've been on the search to find a good banh mi spot in Connecticut. Which is pretty rare to find around here unless it's at an Asian market or Pho restaurant. I came across KT on yelp and wanted to give it a try. Usually my go-to place is at Kien company in Hartford. I ordered the combination banh mi with the deli meats like Vietnamese ham and all that other good meats that go in it usually. I was a bit disappointed in their sandwich, there was barely any meat in there, they put onions in the sandwich which I've never seen or tried before but it does throw off the taste and on top of that the burnt the bread so I had a strong taste of onions and burnt french bread. I really wanted to like this place but I'll stick to Kien company or get a banh mi from ADONG supermarket. read more

I have been on a banh mi journey. I've tried to find the most authentic one. I've made them myself as well going to lengths to make the right bread,pickled veg, etc. It's not too complex but takes some time. I expected this place to be the best based on reviews. Far from it, I bought a tofu and a chicken. The bread is certainty not right too crunchy. No pate, the chicken ( I don't eat chicken but gave it to a friend) was mainly dark meat and I was told flavorless and dry. The pickled veg tasted off and the cilantro was mainly stem. Price point is fine. Seems like a good bakery. I'd probably try other things from there but never a banh mi. There's a few places down the road that you're better off going too. KT bakery has the most fantastic banh mi ever!! This is my go-to lunch spot in town because you can't beat the quality for the price. Each sandwich is made to order with care, and is bursting with the fresh flavors of cilantro and cucumber along with pickled carrots, onions and your meat of choice. The best Vietnamese sandwiches I've had in Hartford thus far. Compared to Pho 68, which is another of my favorite Viet restaurants right across from KT, they are cheaper and bigger. My boyfriend and I ordered one of each sandwich from their menu thinking they would be small; these are THE LARGEST bahn mi I've ever seen, and well worth the price. They also have a daily special; today was the chicken sandwich, which was absolutely. The iced coffee with condensed milk isn't bad either. I will definitely be going back at some point to also try the spring rolls and other breads (which seem to be baked on premises). read more

Delicious and fresh banh mi. A little overbuttered bread but the veggies were the crunchiest and freshest I've had in the area on a banh mi. Delicious egg rolls that reminded me of my sisters. My husband even went so far as to say these were better- fighting words! I also enjoyed the steamed pork bun. My only remark is that I LOVE garlic and can handle quite a bit but I found it overpowering the pork a little bit. Super friendly owner, credit card accepted. Went back for the second visit today to grab another couple of banh mi, some fried spring rolls, and cakes. One of my chief complaints about local banh mi sandwiches in the area has been that the bread is rarely French-like in its texture, crunch, and crumb. KT Bakery does it right. If you peek into the kitchen behind the counter at the right time, you will see a rack of cooling baguettes. The bread is everything you'd want in a good sandwich. Each banh mi is made fresh to order, filed with fresh vegetables and herbs, and pork, chicken, or beef. With a generous dessert menu, we chose slices of layered lemon, coconut, and carrot cakes. They were very moist, and well-made and decorated. Really delicious. On our first visit, we tried some Vietnamese desserts and enjoyed those, as well. If I have a complaint, it is the lack of available seating, consisting of only one table and two chairs both inside and on the porch. Keep in mind, KT is a place designed for grab and go meals and desserts. Putting KT Bakery over the top is a proprietor who is genuinely excited to see customers enter and who understands the importance of customer service. We plan on adding KT to our smallish list of regular lunch time spots. read more

As a recent Pacific NW transplant, Vietnamese food is something I really miss from home. This was one of the first Vietnamese places I've tried in Hartford that serves truly authentic Vietnamese food. The bakery is run by a Vietnamese family. The young woman did double duty at the hair salon and bakery front desk, while a young man and kind grandma ran the bakery side. Once you get past the weird parking layout and accidentally enter the hair salon next door, get ready for some delicious food. I really enjoyed the cold, soupy Vietnamese desserts they had. One had lotus seeds, seaweed, and jujube (chè sâm b lng), while the other one had agar jelly, water chestnuts, and coconut milk (chè sng sa ht lu). The seaweed chè was different from the ones I've had back home in that it was more salty and had less of a "clean" taste to it. Although different, it was enjoyable nonetheless. Both were super refreshing on a hot day. I also tried the vermicelli with grilled beef and some of the savory buns with quail eggs and Chinese sausage on top. Compared to other places I've been to, they were a bit stingy with the beef for the vermicelli dish. However, everything was prepared right in front of me and the vegetables and herbs were very fresh. The savory buns with the quail eggs were delicious and a highlight! They reminded me of Chinese pork floss buns. There were also macaroons, cakes (e.g., carrot, red velvet, cheesecake), tiramisu, steamed buns, and various freshly baked goods. I'm curious about the whole cakes because if they are anything like Asian styled birthday cakes, then I'm done for. Asian styled birthday cakes are super light and less sugary than American cakes. The cakes are usually composed of a light chiffon cake, whipped cream frosting, and can be filled or topped with fresh fruit. Overall, I can totally recommend this bakery for authentic Vietnamese food. I didn't get a chance to try the banh mi's because they were out of the meatball filling I wanted. Hidden gem of West Hartford in an unassuming location. Don't be fooled by google maps- this place was formerly Kelly's Salon but they haven't had the chance to update it. Small bakery with delicious and cheap Vietnamese sandwiches, cakes, and other snacks. The owners and workers there are some of the friendliest I've ever encountered. The place recently opened so they're still working out kinks, but I much prefer their freshly baked sandwiches filled with plenty of meat compared to Adongs stale banh mis. I've seen posts about this place on our towns Facebook group. I've never had Banh Mi so after hearing such rave reviews about it from here I figured I'd treat myself to one for lunch this week. It did not disappoint, so fresh and delicious. I also picked up some spring rolls and they are by far the best I've ever had super flavourful and crispy! While there I was told that they started making Pho on the weekends. Pho is my obsession and will come up with any excuse to get it. Well I got it today for lunch and it is by far the best I've ever had. Deep rich flavorful broth. It was perfection. While I wish they had it everyday I'm glad it is a weekend only item because I feel like it is cooked in smaller batches so the flavors are deeper and richer then places that are pumping it out all day. I also bought some amazing cake slices for dessert tonight. Can't wait to get back to KT Bakery to try more of their delicious foods. Tried the cake slices last night ( tiramisu, lemon, red velvet and cheesecake) they were all very good but the Cheesecake was the best of the bunch. read more

I had seen bahn mi sandwiches on tv and wanted to try it when I saw it mentioned on facebook. This did not disappoint. The flavor and texture combination is intriguing and I found myself wanting another the very same day. One caveat is the spicy peppers which I do not care for so now I order it without. I never had Vietnamese coffee and don't love iced coffee but this was a hit that I will order again. The cheesecake is the richest I have ever had. Just had a very nice meal and a visit with the owner. It was my first time to try a Vietnamese sandwich and it was really delicious. We sat on the squeaky clean new deck - very comfortable on a breezy afternoon, but they have umbrellas for shade when you need it. It's a tiny place with no room to sit inside and it's hot as a furnace in there, but they are turning out some really delicious, fresh and beautiful sandwiches at a super reasonable price.
