3.75 stars. It's probably best to go into Naatiya with appropriate expectations. If you are looking for a super fancy upscale place then you should look elsewhere. But if you can deal with some comforts being absent (nice lighting, cool building, impeccable design), then you are likely in for a good meal. I came for the spring dosa. Dosa are crepe-like South Indian creations that I find best when they are thin, long and crispy. So the ones at Naatiya were a touch thicker than I like, definitely gigantic, and mostly crispy around the edges. However, I should note the thickness was important because Naatiya generally stuffs their dosas as compared to any other Indian restaurant I've been to in the United States. Frankly, they were even more stuffed than the ones I've eaten at home. What is in the stuffing of a spring dosa? Well, I hope you love potatoes because that is going to be the main answer. These potatoes are stir fried in a slightly spicy masala and paired with onions and tomatoes. It's a little more involved than your standard masala dosa. What comes with your dosa? In this case, you get two small sides of coconut chutney and tomato chutney. I would have been thrilled with an extra side of the coconut chutney but didn't ask. Also, you get a bowl of sambar which I think is best described as a traditional spicy vegetable curry prominently featuring Indian cucumber. It's great and I usually pair it with idli (which is also on the menu at Naatiya). I didn't ask for a side of gunpowder (a ground mix of various spices and beans) that I usually use for dosa because I saw that was an entirely different order at Naatiya. That said, I'll probably see if they are willing to provide some of it on a future order as it really adds an entirely new dimension to the dosa experience. TL:DR - you can get dosa here and it's great. Go for casual Indian food. read more

Consistency! One of the most consistent Indian restaurants around the area. Great for South Indian food like dosas and wadas (savoury Indian lentil donuts). Freshly fried once you order...unlike many Indian restaurants where they refry them upon order. Numerous vegetarian options including chaats and puri( a friend calls them Air-bread) chole. My favorite thing here is the Gobi Manchurian. I've ordered all of about 10 times to go lol it's cauliflower fried in a spicy sauce - and yes, it has some heat to it. Tried this restaurant for the first time after many friends recommended it and it exceeded our expectations! The service was fast, friendly, and our waiter helped us navigate the menu - although we often eat Indian food, we typically stick with our few favorite dishes but decided to explore their extensive menu and try new dishes. Our waiter recommended an appetizer and two curries to try. The food came out fast, fresh, and hot. For an appetizer, we tried the samosa chaat. Super refreshing with a little hint of spice. Good dish to share, although we were fighting over who got to scrape up the last licks. We ordered two chicken curries- chettinad koli varutha curry, spicy, and chicken pasanda. The waiter double checked to see if we thought we could handle our request for the dish to be spicy - always a good sign. The chettinad was a chunkier curry, full of flavor, with curry leaves, chilies, and lots of spices mixed in. While it certainly wasn't for the faint of heart (we started to get some minor brow sweat and rosy cheeks about halfway through the meal) we would have categorized it as a medium-hot spice. Maybe we didn't sufficiently convince our waiter that we wanted to feel the burn. It was absolutely delicious nonetheless and the spiciness did not at all take away from the robust flavors of the curry. The pasanda was far more mild in terms of spice. It had a creamy texture and nutty profile. Both dishes had generous amounts of chicken and were served with large bowls of rice. The garlic naan was the perfect tool to scoop up the saucy chicken and rice mixtures. We left all the plates completely empty (with the exception of some rice because there was just so much!) We will absolutely be back many times to continue working our way through the menu and look forward to trying the many other southern Indian specialties. We went to Naatiya's lunch buffet for the first time. I will preface this by saying I used to love the buffet at Utsav, and compare all other Indian buffets to it. Naatiya's selections didn't include the classics such as chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, tandoori chicken, or gulab jamun. While my husband and I were disappointed that they didn't have our favorites, we enjoyed eating the egg and chicken curries, and fried fish. The food was flavorful, but there weren't many proteins to choose from. We ordered an additional plate of tandoori chicken, and it was delicious. I don't see us returning to the buffet ($20/person), but would go back for dinner. read more

Wow, I feel like I've been missing out for years from when I was closer to this area. They sadly don't do the buffet anymore, but the menu provides a lot of great options. It was so hard to choose. I hadn't had a dosa in a while, so I went with that - about 10 different types to choose from. The lamb dosa was great! I snagged a bite of the fried fish appetizer, as well, which was unlike any other fried fish I have had before. Naatiya Having lived in the state of Karnataka, I am always looking for a good southern style Indian restaurant here in the States. I was impressed with all the good reviews for this restaurant and I was really hoping this one would be it for me, but unfortunately it fell a little flat. The staff is extremely friendly and my order was prepared quickly. Masala Chai was perfection and Vada/Sambar quite good. Unfortunately the kayi chutney was watery and extremely salty. Kara chutney just seemed like puréed canned tomatoes and had no real flavor. The goat in the biryani was without flavor and not cooked well. The chicken in the tikka masala was dry and also under seasoned. The sauce lacked and depth in flavor and just didn't seem like tikka masala. The food came with some raita, which I enjoyed. But there was also what I believe was Kheer (rice pudding) but it was watery, mushy, not creamy (skim milk?), and not nearly sweet enough. I would consider coming back to try to dosas as I have read they make a good one, but the coconut chutney is really important to me when I eat a dosa, and the one I had tonight was just not anything I would want to experience again. We got the Chicken Khorma, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Gulab Jamun. The Chicken Tikka masala had a long hair in it which was really gross. We ordered from uber eats and told then about this but they never got back to us. Makes me concerned about the general hygiene of the kitchen. It tasted fine otherwise. The Chicken khorma tasted alright but unfortunately was way too spicy for me, even though I ordered mild spice level. The Gulab jamun is something I've been wanting to try for a while from Indian restaurants so we gave it a try this time. I thought they were delicious. We ordered take out from Naatiya on our way home on a bitterly cold winter night. Immediately when we walked in, the aroma coming from the kitchen was like walking into a delicious warm hug. Their space is vibrant, clean, and much larger than you'd expect from the outside. Their host was very friendly and welcoming. He made small talk with me the entire time and invited me back to dine in. Most importantly -- our food was AMAZING!!! My boyfriend got the Lamb Pasanda and he exclaimed "5/5 this is our new spot" after his first bite. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala which was so flavorful and delicious. The flavor continued to evolve throughout the each bite. The Kashmiri Naan was light, fluffy, and the perfect compliment to our meals. One of the best South Indian joints in the greater western CT/MA area! Service is pleasant and attentive always! We arrived from the airport for a late lunch on our way back and decided to order a la carte. The Dosas were on point as usual. What stole the show was the cauliflower Milagu, that featured flash-fried cauli-florets tossed in authentic chettinad masala that was less spicy and more peppery! This is a perfect introduction for a vegetarian into traditional chettinad cuisine - one that mostly features chicken and meat dishes. The cherry on top for us was the sweet lassi and the carrot halva. The carrot halva had a light and airy mouthfeel; sweetened just enough to allow the carrots to shine as the star of the show while the delectable and crumbly interstitial milk solids play a key supporting role. The lassi was also just sweet enough to effectively negate the slight tanginess of the yogurt while not piercing the throat and overpowering the taste buds like most sweet/mango lassis at other establishments do. Undoubtedly the buffet remains a great option. The diner, however, should consider exploring the offerings a la Carte to unearth hidden treasures presented with the utmost perfection at Naatiya! read more

Wow. In my search for the best Indian food in CT, it was just around the corner from me! The Butter Paneer was so good with amazing flavor and taste! I also splurged and got the malai kofta because I just needed to try it and it did not disappoint! Plentiful balls of kofta with flavorful cashew sauce. Bland food. Undercooked bread followed by burned but raw bread. Service forgot part of order. Poor choices in wines. Raw samosas served. Severely dated motif. 1 star is here is generous. If you think this is good Indian food, I can show you about 20 places I've personally been to that are better in taste and quality of what was served. Spice balance, cook times, and temps on food were all clearly off. Not sure how you serve a raw naan and then replace with a burned naan with raw spots, but they did that. Oh, the place could use an update on the 80s motif with the broken tables jury rigged with wood slats or napkins. Not a place that makes you think they care about upkeep or even cleanliness when you see the manner of jury rigs they have. Side note to chef, watering down the mango juice, lasi, and Raita was pretty obvious. I get higher costs on things, but using water as a means to expand product isn't going to work well. read more

This food was so good I didn't even have time to take a picture. We ordered takeout and picked it up. I ordered the Lamb Pasanda. The lamb just fell apart beautifully and the cashew almond curry sauce was packed with flavor. My girlfriend got her usual Chicken Tikka Masala. She said the flavor was hitting right but it needed more heat. We shared the Kashmiri naan. It's sweetness was a nice contrast to our food. We each recieved our own big container of rice too so that was a plus. Definetly coming back. read more

Brilliant food. love their appetizers. love their entrees. love their buffet. their meat is also zabiha!! we always get take out from this brilliant restaurant. so why 4 stars? well let me tell you a story. because they were so good, we catered from them for my son's birthday party. we did a deshi chinese theme. so chicken 365 and samosa chat as appetizer, and gobi manchurian, veggie fried rice, chilli chicken and golden shrimp for main course. they delivered. they even gave me a discount b/c i had cash (kudos for that policy!) so what was the issue? the food was extra hot!! we are Bangladeshis, we do not eat super spicy food by default. i should have confirmed the spice level. although, every time we get takeout, we are never asked about spice level, and what we get is mild spice level. so the food come out nice. but when we did the catering, the person taking the order assumed (me being deshi) extra spicy and never asked. that one incident has took down the rating a notch. hopefully they make it a habit of asking people what spice level they want their food to be. especially for catering events. read more

I think people are still not out having dinners which is okay. I saw lot of takeouts. We liked eating there, it was clean. We had chicken 65. It was very good. Naatiya is your go-to restaurant for typical South Indian food mostly from the states of Tamil Nadu and Andra Pradesh. The food here is good, be it the buffet or ala carte. The dishes in the buffet are pretty standard everyday of the week with the exception of any Indian holidays where there are additional dishes. The ala carte menu gives you a good variety to choose from - appetizers to the curry dishes (chicken, lamb, seafood or vegetarian), breads or rice based dishes. My work location was not too far from Naatiya and we used to be very frequent for the weekday buffets. Also, for several events we have catered from here and they are very accommodative and do a good job. Overall, you will not be disappointed dining here and my preference is for the ala carte menu. read more

This is where I get my fix of briyani, and spicy curries with garlic na'an. Anytime I need my Indian food fix, especially because of COVID-19, this is where I get it! I order take-out and I try to bring cash because you get 10% off your total if you pay in cash. Even my Indian friend and colleagues who are amazing cooks at home echo the sentiment that Naatiya has really decent Indian food. They are the ones who taught me about the dishes I've come to love, briyani, samosas, gulab jamun, sambhar, etc. They are the ones who cooked the food and brought it to share either for lunch or dinners, or potlucks. Naatiya comes close for sure! They are really pleasant to interact with, on the phone or at the cashier, for whatever short exchange there is in a take out order these days. We recommend their lamb briyani, veggie samosa, lamb samosa (this is FILLED with straight meat kinda like a meaty empanada), their paneers are good, chicken 65 is an easy favorite for the masses, the chicken tikka masala used to be my S/O's favorite but it does get old while you're eating it and since then he's been getting the chicken khorma (not spicy). I love getting the mutton cochin, and will never say no to any sambhar. read more

I've ordered take out from this restaurant so many times. The food is super delicious and there is so much variety. This isn't your typical or average Indian restaurant. They have lots of options and many are outside of the typical American-Indian fare. Portion sizes are good and always makes for good leftovers. I will say as a warning that I got a biryani once and there was a whole star anise and some whole cloves in the rice. We were craving for authentic Indian food over the weekend. Having heard of Naatiya from few friends, we decided to try their ala carte dinner. I am very particular about the names of the dishes and how they should be prepared. For instance, if I order a biryani and you serve me a pulao - you cannot get away with it. There are variety of Indian dishes with some minor differences in preparation. Thats the beauty of it. As an appetizer we ordered "ragada" pattice and "chicken 65". Ragada wowed us with the perfect preparation. Beans and potato pattice was perfectly salted, slightly tangy and well cooked. It was a good start. Unfortunately, It all went downhill with "Chicken 65". This served dish was not more than a fried chicken. Chicken 65 has a specific preparation and a peculiar taste. If you have tried the authentic dish, you really would be disappointed when fried chicken pieces are served instead of chicken 65. I felt my whole night was flawed. The only reason we came out to eat was to enjoy chicken 65 as we dont make it at home usually. This was just the beginning. Our main course "mutton rogan josh" was like a tomato curry with bland mutton pieces in it. No thickness, no masala and no real flavors. On top of that even a simple bread like Onion kulcha was messed up. Raw onions were stuck on a naan and served as is. I wanted to order biryani, but held myself due to this disaster. Needless to say, food was disappointing. They have huge scope of improvement. Service and hospitality was excellent. They deserve points for that. I would surely try few other items from their menu in future and will revise this review. But for now, they have huge scope of improvement in food area. read more

Wow actually went out on a limb and called this place not really expecting a great dinner. I am batting a 1000 here lately with my business trip to Hartford. This place is a second gem. The menu wasn't that pricey you have to order 45.00 for delivery and I was skeptical just because it was 8:00pm I felt I wouldn't get a fresh selection but it was late. Hands down I felt like I was eating in the restaurant being served fresh hot food. Double thumbs up. just for the attention and time. So much so it's enough for dinner tonight read more
