    #12 Beef Pho Medium
    Zach M.

Stopped in today for a quick lunch, had a number 12 beef pho. It was delicious and served with the usual add-ons .The staff were very friendly and attentive, overall excellent service. It's a smaller place but it's nice and clean. I'll definitely be going back.

The pho broth has so much flavor - it was so delicious! Must try if you love pho. It is the best I've had in Connecticut!

I really enjoyed their mango smoothie boba. The woman at the counter was very nice. Going to be a must have every time I'm in the area.

While on my road trip back from Pennsylvania I had to stop and get gas and fuel my belly too! This…read moreis a small family run place but with excellent food and service. What a cold and windy day and the air is salty and my windshield and coat shows it! Hungry, tired, and annoyed at the salty weather I walk in to a polite young man at the counter who warmly invites me in and tells me I can sit where I please...which I obliged after asking to use their restroom which was clean. I make my way to my table and the restaurant is picking up with more people checking in while there are others already present on the left side of this restaurant and few others await pickup orders. There seems to be just a small number of staff but they are very efficient and attentive. After I sat down I was expecting to be forgotten but nope! The young man walked over with a glass of water for me and took my order. There were so many great options on the menu so it was a task to decide butI did it! For a drink I choose the original milk tea with Boba pearls. For app I choose the grilled betel leaf with meat stuffed inside of it and for my main course I got the Hue's Spicy Noodle Soup. Everything from start to finish was delicious. I enjoyed my milk tea very much and finished it off after my meal. The Betel Leaf rolls are perfectly seasoned. I like mine dipped in Siracha. I ate it all! My noodle soup, OMG, the broth was amazing! Please taste it first before adding other sauces. It deserves to be acknowledged first. I'd drive 1.5 hrs back here just for this soup again. Its a must try. I highly recommend this restaurant. I can't wait to go back and bring my friends and family with me to try other things on their menu. BTW I enjoyed my meal so much I ordered their cold cut sandwiches to take home and share with my family as a treat upon my return home. I didn't get a chance for a pic for them cause I ate it and forgot lol.

Still pretty good pho, big portions and good flavors…read more I've come to this place a few times throughout the year. It's a good pho spot for the Vernon location. The portions are plentiful, the soup is okay but there's plenty of toppings and sauces to doctor it up a bit. The spring rolls and egg rolls have a good amount of pork in them and the dipping sauces are fresh and tasty. The egg roll sauce is this rose water floral sweet, tangy dip which helps with the rich pork. The peanut sauce for the spring rolls had a little spicy zip to it which complimented the fresh veggies. Overall, it's good pho. The pho base needs to be more assertive in its flavor profile. It needs a deeper beef or chicken flavor and more seasoning. So possibly a bit more salt and vinegar to amp up the flavors of the soup a bit. If they make the soup base stronger, then it can contend with the big names of pho in ct. as it stands though, it's pretty good for the area

I'm finally back here. The restaurant is Vietnamese and is located at 252 Broad St. in Manchester,…read moreCT. It's been quite some time. This is possibly the largest pho (Vietnamese) restaurant in the state (next to Pho Boston). The decor is real nice too. The menu is huge. There are a lot of options including classic Vietnamese non-soup dishes (one of which I am getting). Unique items include salmon spring rolls and salmon noodle soup. There is no music. That should be on while they're open. The owner, Pete, immediately serves me a huge glass of ice water with a lime. It's warm outside so it's very refreshing. For my drink, I'm having a Nuoc Chanh (fresh lime). Nước chanh is a classic Vietnamese limeade, known for its refreshing balance of tart, sweet, and occasionally a hint of salt. In Vietnamese cuisine, "chanh" usually refers to green limes, though lemons can be used as a substitute abroad. This is good! It tastes closer to lemonade. For my appetizer, I am having the Goi Cuon Ga (chicken spring rolls). Gỏi cuốn gà are fresh, non-fried rolls filled with poached chicken, rice vermicelli, fresh herbs (mint, cilantro), and lettuce wrapped in thin rice paper. They are a light, healthy alternative to the traditional pork and shrimp version, often served with peanut hoisin dipping sauce or fish sauce (nước chấm). These are light and easy to eat. The cubed or diced or minced chicken is a different approach I haven't seen before. Add sriracha sauce for a little kick. These are good! They do serve everything on styrofoam plates. Adding some ceramic plates would be a nice touch. For my entree, I'm having the ga luclac (also known as Shaking Chicken). This is stir fried chicken breast with mixed vegetables and white rice. Vietnamese Shaking Chicken (gà lúc lắc) is a popular dish featuring wok-seared, cubed chicken thighs marinated in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and garlic, resulting in a caramelized, savory flavor. It is typically seared at high heat to create a crust, served over greens with onions and tomatoes, often accompanied by rice. I've asked for extra spicy. Let's see what comes out. There's always sriracha sauce as a last resort. This is more like it! It's served sizzle hot! That's a big portion! This tastes great! It's nice to be served by the owner himself! What a great meal here! P.S.: When paying, you need to go up to the front counter.

Don't concentrate too hard on trying to figure out if Pho 99 is the best the region's got. After all, luminaries like Mrs. Lee's and Pho House are gone, but Pho 99 is still here, and it's still so damn good. As a vegetarian, I love the tofu and veggies in Pho 99's pho chay. The pillows of tofu have the right combo of chewy skin and pliant interior, there are the right amount of auxiliary veggies, and the slender noodles always melt and dissolve just so into a silky oneness with the broth. I love the slight cinnamon smell in the broth and the way it gets better the longer it sits there, absorbing the squirts of sriracha and the bean sprouts you dump in. If you want something else, take it from my husband, a philistine on whom the delights of all soups are wasted, who says he adores their shaking beef. Family run, consistently delicious, and not overpriced at $20 for a large bowl, Pho 99's enduring goodness is a reminder of the astronomically high level of Vietnamese food in Hartford we are privileged to enjoy.

I shared all of this with my family at home. We were very impressed with Pho Van's food. The Pho Broth was awesome, especially considering I assembled the pho a few hours later for dinner. Pho Van is definitely in play as a top Pho spot in CT. We ate the rest of the food 30 minutes later for lunch. The fried rice, with a substantial mix of sausage, shrimp, beef, pork etc., was up there with CT's best fried rice too. Full of stuff and flavor. The Banh Mi and Rolls were also very good. The inside was more functional than nice, but it's definitely fine to eat there. Service was good. I'll definitely return for a dine in experience. 4.5 Stars

Not bad pho, not great ambiance…read more Came here on a whim. Missus wanted some soup so we went to this place as our date night trek. It's close to a sporting complex, in the same plaza as a larger brewery. Not the easiest to spot, will need the gps to assist. The inside is sparse in decoration but the staff was very friendly. We got the spring rolls, the fried wonton, a pho and a bahn mi. Food came out quick, we took pics then dug in. The wontons had a good pork and scallion filling. They didn't need sauce to taste good, which is a good sign. The spring rolls were okay, crispy but oily and the dipping sauce was weak. The pho was good, meat was tender, noodles were okay, and soup base was chicken broth with spices. The bahn mi was pretty good as well. Pickled veggies were very sweet, the ham was tender enough and the mayo butter was heavy handed. The bread was crusty but soft, not what I consider to be proper bahn mi bread, but good enough. Price was about 45 for the two apps and entrees, which is about average for that style of meal. It's not anything to write home about. I would recommend ordering to go mainly because the dining space is right underneath a wrestling ring and the floor shakes when someone gets body slammed below. But it's good enough pho for that area
